Who's your favorite member of The Bad Guys!!
Mr wolf
mr wolf
Mr Shark. The dude just casually showed up to a heist in A RED DRESS. Come on.
Mr. Snake and they did an amazing job with animating him
Mr. Snake!!! All that grumpiness is just adorable~~ XD
Her thief outfit and skills are a callback to Kill Bill and her high tech hideout is a reference to Mr and Mrs Smith
That’s so true!!
And the opening scene with Wolf and Snake is a homage to Pulp Fiction. I think this director loves Tarantino
@@robbieking4070 oh! also Mr. Wolf's disguise as poodleton may be a reference to public enemies
@@theramdomchannel8329public enemies? Is that a crime movie?
Y'know considering how they establish that anthropomorphic animals are just living amongst people and the only thing wrong is that some of them are given a bad rap, i'm surprised we don't see more of them around aside from the main characters.
Why there are only the main characters that are animals because they are stereotypes that we as humans gave them but if you rewatch the movie it makes slightly more sense.
Yeah, true..
I read that in the books all the characters were anthropomorphic animals, but they decided to just make the main cast animals. I think it's an interesting decision.
It was different in the books
In the books everyone was animals, but I feel they decided to make some human is so that it wouldn’t resemble zootopia too closely
Gotta love the touch of making Wolf dress up as "an elderly grandma" (a la _Little Red Riding Hood)_ and in that sheep onesie (a la _The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing)._
I worked on this movie! Love this reaction. To clear some things up, we didn’t take any reference from Turning Red since we had completed our work on the movie three months before turning red came out. We did, however, take a lot of inspiration from anime and Studio Ghibli movies, which is probably what inspired Pixar as well, hence the similarities.
Also, most of the effects were hand drawn in this movie, like the electricity around the meteorite, although there is a good mix of 3D effects mixed in there. My team was responsible for the guinea pig swarm, so it was really cool to see your reaction to that!
Well, props to your whole team. Amazing work on the movie. One of the most unique and polished styles (art and animation, equally) I've seen in ages :)
This reminded me quite alot of lupin lll
Okay, I have to ask this. Were the human character designs (specifically the Chief) inspired in any way by Steven Universe? I have never watched it, just seen T-shirts and stuff, but every time I see the Chief stomping around and especially when she smiles, Steven Universe is the first thing that comes to mind.
@@robertlombardo8437 That might be the "Cal Arts Style," a famous animation school that gave rise to the style of Steven Universe, the Amazing World of Gumball, Gravity Falls, and similar 2010s media.
Something I noticed and loved is how Wolf's mannerisims and body structure are very similar to those of Lupin from Lupin the third, an old anime inspired by the novels of "Lupin the gentleman thief". His lankiness works very well with how arm and leg heavy his movements are, I don't know how to explain it. Especially his "running away" pose in the beggining with snake feels very Lupin inspired.
The three creative details I love in the movie:
Mr. Wolf dressed in a sheep onesie to represent a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Mr. Snake molting his skin to change into his spy wear, and Ms. Tarantula works behind the scenes because tarantulas wait until their prey get close then strike
I hope DreamWorks keeps up this new animation style.
SAME. Some people are bashing on the change, but they're straight up out of their minds. This new style (which I assume was inspired by the success of Spider-Verse) is freaking awesome! The blend of 2d and 3d is genius, and just like Arcane has proved, it can be visually jaw-dropping when done right. I think this change is like the next step in the evolution of animation as a whole, and I am so down for it.
@@andrewblissett2211 Same I like both of the animation style
@@andrewblissett2211 Agreed
It’s something different but refreshing.
Puss In Boots : The Last Wish will also have this style
I fucking love how they animated Snake in this. The way they kept finding ways to use his entire body to mimic moving arms and poses. Right out the gate he "slouches" on the restaurant countertop while Wolf tips, and hell they even had him briefly waddle up the bank steps in the opening. It's the little things bro, love this movie 🍿👌
You mentioned Piranha being a good singer! That's because his voice actor is Anthony Ramos! A big musical actor. He played Justin in 21 Chump Street, John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in Hamilton, and Usnavi in the movie adaptation of In The Heights! (Ironically, all three of these musicals were written by the same guy)
He's a great singer, and everytime he pops up in a movie/musical, I get excited to watch it
I loved the animation style!! I didn't think it was similar to "Turning Red", personally, it reminded me a little of "Into the Spider-verse", though...! But I would love to see more 3D animation like this ^^
Disagree, gives me more of the live action tom and jerry movie vibes
It reminded me of both! It's like a mix of them imo (plus the stylised lighting was also super reminiscent of Carmen Sandiego)
Screw turning red into puberty for femists
I think the animation was Into The Spiderverse but the style of how the people were drawn reminded me of turning red
i think mixing 3d and 2d is so pleasing to the eyes, its like the the perfect mix.
Snake made a valid point though, the acceptance was skin deep. Even before the taunting screen saver popped up, all that 'good will' was immediately gone when the meteorite was stolen. They immediately blamed the 'bad guys', because they still had that bias. Which is something the movie could have gotten a little deeper into, in my opinion. No one but Diane was willing to listen, while everyone immediately believed that the bad guys were bad. 'Yeah, they liked us so much that we are going to prison for a crime we didn't commit.'
I think Snake's final decision to be good unknowingly echoed Diane's advice: Do it (being good)for yourself not them.
Even though he was right about the world turning its back on them, it didn't matter because his best friends literally came back for him & were about to die to save him.
@@fabulousmyriad267 'Doing it for yourself' only gets you so far. When everyone is so scared of you that you can't do anything but accept the role that the rest of society pigeon holes you into. From the getgo, the bad guys were only bad because that is what society labeled them as and if they didn't accept the label, who would hire them for normal jobs? We see right off rip that they can't even go eat a meal in peace without everyone acting like the bad guys are going to devour them.
I just think they could have addressed the whole prejudice thing, but I understand that it was a movie that may have been a bit too long had they smashed that into the movie as well.
I like that this movie even if it looks like a silly movie it has deep concepts, one thing that i loved from this movie that differs from a lot of superhero movies is the being good for yourself and not for others, be good because the way you feel when you do something good not because people want you to
If a Sly Cooper series comes up, this animation would work wonders for it.
I feel sorry for Sly fans.
Though I never read the books, DreamWorks’ take on The Bad Guys was handled well and gave off such a likable charm. This is the treatment Sly needs for an animated film.
this movie is based off a graphic novel, I never read it so i don't know how similar it is, but I feel like that may have had something to do with the choices in art direction and the more 2d feel
The characters act almost as similar as the books but their designs are much different originally in the book.
The animation style and character designs are amazing
I REALLY LIKED THE STYLE OF ANIMATION AS THERES NO REALISM IN IT👏👏. ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE FUN AMD UNIQUE IN THEIR OWN WAY WHICH I LOVED🤍🤍
"Is she gonna be enough though?"
Me: Oh, wait for it...
So as a teacher, this is one graphic novel I always read to my class. It's been a very popular series for a long time and it gets them interested in reading all the series. I only read the first one in the series and they can't wait to read the rest.😉 The one thing that I wish that they had done was given Piranha his South American accent like he has in the book series. Glad you enjoyed it.
Instead he is Spanish in the movie.
This is the definition of what a sly fox is ha
When you think about it, they setup Wolf being good from the first few minutes of the movie; if he truly was all bad, he wouldn't pay for the food, let alone leave a tip.
I’ve had a phobia of sharks for a long time… but this movie has me softening a lil 😂
p.s Into The Spiderverse would be a dope animation for you guys to do at some point.
Galeophobia
Wait... They haven't watched Into The Spiderverse yet!?
There’s also a giant Anthro shark in The Suicide Squad
Dolphins are where the nightmare fuel is (dolphins LITERALLY torture sharks)
@@RB01.10 Hmm. Haven't seen that movie, but I'm assuming it's also a portrayal of the same character as the shark in the Harley Quinn Show, which is the character I would have recommended XD
What I love about this movie, was how many guinea pigs died in the process.
8:46
Agreed, and I feel the writers overall threw enough subtle hints in without making their relationship feel forced .
This animation style is sooo satisfying
Thank you for reacting to this movie. I haven't liked an animation this much since Megamind, and those two are sadly some of the most underappreciated animations.
Now that you mentioned Edgar Wright, The Bad Guys does have a Baby Driver feel to it! Good catch!
As Mr Wolf put it, "The chase is the best part!" ;)
I loved the movie, the animation was so good 💯 specially the action scenes. Like when the crimson paw fights the cops in the prison
That's a great scene.
The animation style makes me think of Lupin III. IDK how many people have seen it but its an absolute CLASSIC! (Castle of Cagliostro is a must watch)
Lol. I told my sister the animation style was “Ghibli x Into the Spiderverse.” 🤣
@@brittanywetherill472 Just to say, Lupin III or Castle Of Cagliostro is not a Ghibli property.
The movie came out before the company was even established.
There’s also hints of Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball) in the film.
It's based on a series of kid books. My son loves them.
Great fun, had a Karen moment thinking Mr Shark was a bit far fetched. Really, a car full of a wise cracking wolf, piranha, snake, spider and the shark I puzzled with. Great fun. 😂🇬🇧👵
Even though I found this movie super predictable, I still liked the characters. It's refreshing that they still went to jail in the end.
Agreed
I thought they were gonna once again weasel their way out of it but no, they take responsibility for their actions which was a surprisingly mature thing for the script to do and sent a good message IMO
It was also to save Diane’s image as well.
And they do get out early anyway for good behavior
Ngl, I couldn't stop thinking about G Force (2009) while watching this lol - both involve guinea pigs & a main character voiced by Sam Rockwell.
I like the movie too. I watched it a few days ago. I love wolves and it is great to see the klischee bad Wolf turns into a good Wolf.
The boys (Shark, Snake, Parana and Webs) make a band and Wolf and Diane get together.
This movie is very creative, It is actually inspired from Into the Spider verse movie you can also check it out it has a very cool animation style.
5:17 these guys right here I was like “Do not vomit inside the vehicle.” Lol 😂
I dont know if you guys ever played the game The Wolf Among Us, but the director of that game is the same director of this movie. When I watched this movie I kept noticing small things that reminded me of that game, like the 2d features sprinkled here and there, and the eyes of the characters- specifically Wolf's that were so similar to the game.
love diane foxington
I just have one question and it’s a bit of a plot hole. Wolf says that he puts that push pop in the fridge, however, it seems that the governor and Wolf leave pretty much start foiling marmalade’s plot without going by the hideout first. So exactly when did wolf have the time to put the ice block in the fridge?
Just something that caught my eyes when I watched the bad guys
I love the comic style is infused into this movie with such fines
The entire first scene is a great reference to "pulp fiction", by chance it is also the scene at the beginning of said movie, with almost the same discussion dialogue about something specific, another interesting detail is that the snake's clothing is the same to that of Johnny Depp in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"
that opening was could've been taken directly from a Tarantino movie
I heard it was a reference to the opening of Tarantino’s 1994 hit Pulp Fiction
I think the plot and villain of this movie are pretty mid, but the animation and script are top-tier. Some of the dialogue had me in stitches.
Sometimes a simple plot can be immensely elevated by great writing, characters, and animation.
Like how many times have we seen "a kid takes care of his mystical creature in secret" plot? Tons of times, but How To Train Your Dragon started off with an absolute classic and eventually spawned a fantastic trilogy along with a TV series.
If the plot of a film is simple and cliche, it can be a huge demerit against it. But if you use it to paint a gorgeously creative and clever canvas, sometimes the film turns out to be pure gold.
The villain's definitely mid, but I feel like he was supposed to be.
22:23 12345? That's amazing, I got the same combination on my luggage!
The Big Bad Wolf is a Eurasian wolf (Canis lupus lupus), also known as the common wolf, which is a subspecies of grey wolf native to Europe and Asia. It was once widespread throughout Eurasia prior to the Middle Ages. Aside from an extensive paleontological record, Indo-European languages typically have several words for "wolf", thus attesting to the animal's abundance and cultural significance. It was held in high regard in Baltic, Celtic, Slavic, Turkic, ancient Greek, Roman, and Thracian cultures, whilst having an ambivalent reputation in early Germanic cultures. It is the largest of Old World grey wolves, averaging 39 kg (86 lb) in Europe; however, exceptionally large individuals have weighed 69-79 kg (152-174 lb), though this varies according to region. Its fur is relatively short and coarse, and is generally of a tawny colour, with white on the throat that barely extends to the cheeks. Melanists, albinos, and erythrists are rare, and mostly the result of wolf-dog hybridisation. The howl of the Eurasian wolf is much more protracted and melodious than that of North American grey wolf subspecies, whose howls are louder and have a stronger emphasis on the first syllable. The two are, however, mutually intelligible, as North American wolves have been recorded to respond to European-style howls made by biologists. Many Eurasian wolf populations are forced to subsist largely on livestock and garbage in areas with dense human activity, though wild ungulates such as moose, red deer, roe deer and wild boar are still the most important food sources in Russia and the more mountainous regions of Eastern Europe. Other prey species include reindeer, argali, mouflon, wisent, saiga, ibex, chamois, wild goats, fallow deer, and musk deer.
Great reaction! The only part that I kind of didn't like was Snakes plan at the end, it just doesn't make sense to me!
Yeah it was a bit absurd, but I feel that was part of the joke.
Similar to how earlier, Mr. Shark was able to walk in with that blatant disguise on.
@@RB01.10 Could be, but to me it didn't feel like a joke but an actual attempt at being smart
Well, you know how Wolf and Diane wanted to steal the meteorite? So that Marmalade wouldn't be able to control the guinea pigs? Snake decided that he should also get rid of the meteorite for the same reason, but in a much more permanent way: destroying it. He figured he could do it by pulling the ol' switchamaroo and making the real rock explode. That way, its powers are also done for.
I’d love to see you guys do gravity falls sometime in the future. I know it’s a tv show so it would take longer, but I feel like you both would love it’s humor, animation, and plot if you haven’t seen it already.
This movie is so WHOLESOME! ❤️🔥
I kinda love the story than Buzz.
I liked the bad guys.
You guys should watch The Mitchels vs The Machines it’s on Netflix and was nominated for an academy award
Love this movie
Watch the movie Spies in Disguise, it's an animation that combines comedy and action..
Kinda off topic, but I just watched Jurassic World Dominion and thought about you guys! Would you guys be open to watching the series? (6 movies) I can’t remember if you guys have done the first one but I just was curious. I think the difference of genre through the series is also interesting, as the original JP was written as a disaster movie and the moved more and more into action. I also think the practical effects of the original is amazing. Best wishes!
If you want like 2d mixed with a 3d try to React the The Peanuts Movie.
Best book adaptation ever
Love this movie !
Really enjoy the last 10 min talk
I love the animation style in this film lol. The animation reminds me of Wreck It Ralph, Turning Red & Sherlock Gnomes, but it also seems to hv a graphic novel kind of style to it similar to Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse - it's definitely unique & fun tho.
The film itself feels like Zootopia meets Ocean's Eleven lol (tho Professor Marmalade also reminds me of Moriarty from Sherlock Gnomes tbh).
More than anything the animation reminds me of The Mitchells vs the Machines. It's almost uncanny how similar they look.
This is the best driving I’ve seen in animation.

The only thing i dislike about this movie is the Calarts style :( whenever i see these mouths i get annoyed
Hollywood can make good films like this shit man one thing I can't not stand about this film is mr shark, Mr piranha, Ms tarantula are technically used as side characters that only exist for the plot to happen this films hidden message is really interesting it involves racism which is really interesting while this film centers around Mr snake and mr wolf but the rest of the bad guys are just there like they don't command the screen like mr wolf but this film should have got an Oscar for best film in animation and another thing I really like about this film it's a satire of crime films and this film blends comedy and drama like it has its emotional moments it takes a break from the comedy then gets to the deep scenes like mr snakes backstory and it's emotional to watch it does what thor love and thunder does not takes a break from comedy this film should have got an Oscar for best film in animation like spiderman into the spider verse this film has great acting but it can be critised
