This Adam Sandler musical slaps. Here's why a talking reptile movie featuring Bill Burr is getting love in spite of bigger (and better?) animated films dropping.

I had my doubts about the Liar Revealed scene but I think I enjoyed it in retrospect because the kids are young, they're scared, they don't get a lot of things and they finally have someone to open up to in the form of Leo. Then it's shown to them that their secrets could potentially be told to the shitty turtle that nobody likes and it crushed their confidence a lot.
Then they realized that what he did wasn't that bad, actually. They realized that they were hard on him, but they learned the best lesson from him after they went to the Everglades to rescue Leo.
Is that there are a ton of people that can be your confidants, and I think it was a really well-done lesson because people aren't perfect, confidants and friends make mistakes and I think it's good for them to understand that as it gives them a hopeful mindset as they grow up.
Adam Sandler Lizard Movie is a triumph, man. If Mr. Sandman had animated movies like this the rest of his career, I'd be through the roof. SNL Funnyman deserves better.

If you and Mann didn't know each other, that intro diss would've been tragic 💀💀💀

I think one interesting thing I've noticed is when you build a brand around something creative that means dictating creative decisions and directing things from the top down. However Disney built their brand around really narrow expectations of them. So whenever the things do get tired they really struggle at adapting it. "The Marvel superhero movie" "The Star Wars movie" "The Disney princess movie". A lot of their struggles are being "on brand" for every franchise they own and over time it just looks boring.
Netflix even when they've made genuine trash rarely are people willing to grab the pitchforks to revolt. They've never had those kinds of expectations because they've built themselves around a variety of things.

I appreciate your input here, you basically said everything Ive been thinking about the whole Wish box office flop and the past performance of Disney compared to others as an animated film production company-the very thing that established it as such a pioneer and juggernaut in the industry. They just keep falling flat, and it is a little disheartening to see them struggling to figure out why and dig themselves out. Hopefully whatever Iger said about focusing less on “the message” of a film is an underhanded way to reel the shareholders back on their side by trying to say “Yeah, we know it’s bad right now and dividends are dropping but we’re lowering expectations on our movie output to try and turn some greater profit in other areas” which could possibly mean… better movies? Maybe?
Also hoping what he said about sequels applies to movies coming out soon, and not just ones produced henceforth (looking at you Inside Out 2)

I think it was Kevin Fiege who compared the Marvels to that notorious scene in Endgame. You know the one where they all stand together to fight Thanos that took many movies and years to build up to.

Not a bad thing to give audiences an idea of what to expect or for audiences to have expectations going into something. But Mark White once said that there is a victory in letting go of expectations. If something delivers more than you ever expected it to in the first place, then you have a new masterpiece to add to your library! If something falls short, maybe give it a little time…you might see some value in it that you didn’t before. (OR…you will get that true gem that you were hoping for later down the line; if ‘Wish’ wasn’t the big comeback for Disney that everyone was hoping, maybe Disney will be able to deliver something even stronger later…even if it marks the 110th-or-something anniversary, rather than 100!)
