It was a very sweet movie with a heartwarming message. I have a lot of teachers in my family and I know it resonated with my sister who is in her first year as a lead teacher. I like how Leo cared about the kids and wanted to help them with their problems and was sensitive to them. It was really wholesome too how the substitute teacher also had redeeming qualities and her goal was to inspire students too and she learned from the events too. It had a lot more heart than Disney's Wish did. At least in Leo I feel like it was built on some actual real life experiences from teachers and kids.

I was confused first about the song about crying since I thought "crying is for weaklings" is so outdated, til I saw the kid explaining to him that crying can be very good for you. And by the end he learned that lesson himself. Which seems very realistic to me if you think of Leo as an old man. The script definitely should've been looked over. When Adam Sandler said "Slay that science fair" in a smoker Dracula voice, I left the room. I also don't like how the turtle best friend suddenly becomes jealous over Leo's popularity. It felt like it was just there to reveal the liar trope many movies have done in the past. (those also sucked.) Leo had a good reason to hide the truth, and everyone is upset? The animal can literally speak, why would you be upset if he doesn't want people to know. "But I felt special" is a dumb excuse to punish Leo with and the whole movie should have had the whole second half changed. I believe the turtle should've tried to convince Leo that it isn't an animal's place to help people out, since animals have never talked to people and how he is only wasting the last days of his life stressing over others. Leo should've then had a moment like Austin Moon from Sing, where the students try to prove how his advice helped them grow and be better versions of themselves. It is sad to see this movie fall into lame tropes and boring finales. (An apology is the most dry way of character growth) I love the concept of the film, and kids can really learn allot when they see characters who struggle similarly to themselves. (With obvious comedic characteristics, since this is a kids film.) If only they had put more budget on the script than on an celerity actor.

I totally agree with everything you say in your review ( which was excellent, by the way: fair, balanced, succinct and offering examples to support each contention that you make). I too am not an Adam Sandler fan ( I liked him as Opera Man in his SNL days, but that’s about it), but the trailer for “ Leo” intrigued me, so I watched it. I was astounded at just the things you cite: its plot grabs you, the characters are delightful, it’s touching ( I loved how Leo accepted his impending mortality before learning that he had much more than a year to live) and genuinely funny. When the little chatterbox saves them all from the menacing alligator by boring it into semi-consciousness with her non-stop talking, I laughed out loud. Great film , great review 👍🏾

This movie DOES have the right to be amazing! Just because it's not made by big old Disney doesn't mean that it can't be amazing. In fact, the only Disney movies I really enjoy are like Brave, Frozen and Encanto. Like, I think the masterpieces do often come from the smaller companies. This isn't based off any fairytale, it's just straight up original!

I haven’t had the chance to see this movie yet (I am planning to but I need to find the time for it) so I can’t personally give my own opinion on if I liked this movie or not however based on what I have seen on Twitter (without spoilers of course) where some people actually enjoyed it (but with minor critics of course mostly from what I have seen it was mostly the song numbers and some pacing issues) and where on the other side of the spectrum people hated it.
But honestly from what I have heard and seen. People seem to enjoy it which honestly. I might give the movie a shot when I can!

Sandler has been cranking out some decent films as of late. Uncut gems was another good one, and I believe there was a film about basketball that he did recently that was fairly well received too.

I believe the musical portions of the move were designed to be short and memorable affirmations for kids who could relate to its powerful and uncommon advice (in todays PC world). Its a genius device to refer back to in the future in a RUclips short or even sing in your head when you need it.

I had a good feeling about this movie when i saw the trailer since it seemed fun and warm hearted, and I was really surprised how good it was! While it may not be in the same league as earlier Disney or Pixar movies, it certainly outdid more recent ones from those studios in my opinion.
I thought it taught very realistic, genuine, and wholesome lessons, definitely made me laugh, and the animation and voice acting was really good too. The songs were not the best (except for the crying one lol), but I would love to see more from this studio. Overall it was a really fun, feel good film that deserves a strong recommendation!
