Thank you Ryan. Your son is a great travel companion. I can see that you put in a lot of efforts in filming, research and editing. Thank you very much for making videos about SAS
There is so much more to Stockholm. As usual my visits are normally so short... We'll explore more of Stockholm in the next episode. Hope I'll see you there! 😊
Interesting hearing about the SAS story. As I have never been to Europe, I have never heard much about the airline and obviously never flown with them. Hopefully with that boost it gets them above the water.. Enjoyed the video 👍
I've flown them a couple of times when they operated to SIN. Before that, I've never seen anyone with blonde hair and blue eyes so imagine me walking on board SAS for the first time at 10 years old. 🤣 It was also my first time seeing a man with an earring... He was a flight attendant serving me in business class. My eyes opened that day in 1985. 🤣🤣
@@ryansofly I still get shocked looks in rural China and have had to stop for photos 😆 it’s like they have seen an alien…. But I am more surprised you were in business class at 10 years old 😆
@@LukeCrisp hahahaha... Yes my family travelled a lot in the 70s and 80s. We were privileged that way. So I've flown 727s, DC8s, DC10s, Tristars, and there's a photo of me in a Thai DC8 where the window shades were curtains!
@@ryansofly You’re lucky you have those memories. If there is one aircraft I wish I got to fly on… definitely the Concorde.. it was around when I was a kid but there was no way we could afford to fly on it 😆
Just a small correction: Norway is not a member of the EU, they are a member of Schengen that allows for passport free travel in Europe. There is also a passport free agreement with the nordic countries.
I've flown on SAS but only on short-haul/regional flights. I would take SAS Plus which for me represents still good value despite its criticism. It is moderately priced, unlike Finnair which is unapologetically expensive. The close of Russian airspace has taken a toll on Finnair as well. They used to market themselves as the fastest way to Europe. Finally, as someone who follows Nordic welfare model quite a bit, we can see the contradictions and/or potentials for hypocrisies it brings up. Given that SAS is partly state-owned, you'd expect them to adhere to high wages and keeping their workers happy but now have to rely on mechanisms associated with low wages just to survive.
I do have a Finnair video coming up, and I discuss just that very topic you touched on - Russian air space. State owned airline in Europe is a little complicated especially when you're subjected to EU restrictions on financial aid to prop up a carrier. They'll agree to one, two, maybe three bail outs but then Brussels will draw the line and say no.
Going back to SAS Connect, it appears all domestic SAS flights involving Sweden are using it. My SAS flight between Gothenburg and Arlanda was SAS Connect, not a flight operated by SAS per se, which seemed ironic since Stockholm is where SAS' headquarters are at. But SAS Connect seems to be the model that Philippine Airlines is adopting for flights within the Philippines. Previously you'd see widebodies fly from Manila to Cebu and Davao but not anymore. All domestic flights, except for one widebody flight to a city named General Santos and flights that continue to Tokyo from Cebu are now operated by a subsidiary PAL Express, which is in many ways operationally similar to SAS Connect.
2:20 "often misunderstod country" - Well, China isn't really friendly towards it's citizens and maritime neighbours + excessive "cut corners" in production, manufacturing and building.. So sorry for any "misunderstading", China
5:18 Actually, Norway is not in the EU but in the EEA (European Economic Area). Of course Norway and Sweden and Denmark are very close because they're Scandinavian and Nordic countries along with Finland and Iceland
A little correction to the video. Norway and the EU enjoy good and close relations, although Norway is not a member of the European Union.
A nice reflection on the SAS story. Let’s hope they’re on the road to recovery.
Yes fingers crossed. This does feel very final though.
Another great video Ryan. Lets hope SAS can survive.
I hope so too... This latest lifeline does feel very final.
Great vlog..love your work xx
Thanks so much! 😊

Our pleasure! But my son? 😄
Thanks Ryan, for an intriquing history with SAS, I hope they survive. I remember Stockholm vaquely - Gamla Stan was a place to go. Cheers

I'm excited that KLM/Air France now owns 20% of SAS. I'm hoping one day they will be all together Air France-KLM-SAS
We'll see in 2025, whether they exercise their option to increase that stake.

@@_Tripsandtips101 indeed that's the plan as outlined by the current CEO. Only wide body long haul flights will be SAS eventually.
@@ryansofly , interesting that in light of SAS' troubles with Russian airspace, they will be opening a new route to ICN next year.
@@_Tripsandtips101 I suppose that will replace PVG which was terminated recently.

Why do people show their tickets to FA on narrow body aircrafts?
Isn't that what we do as a natural action upon boarding?
