Ryan So Fly
Австралия
Добавлен 10 июл 2012
Welcome to my world. I fly, eat and stay... Originally from Singapore, I left the corporate world and all its madness behind, and migrated to Australia in 2013. Desperate to escape the rat race, getting on to the plane on that one-way ticket was the best decision in my life. Come and see the world through my eyes. And I would love to help you escape and forget the worries of life just for 20 minutes or so. Come and join me, won't you?
Although much of my focus have been on plane reviews, I've recently tried to expand my repertoire to include trains, food and hotel reviews as well. I do feel strongly that those genres I mentioned tend to go hand in hand as a travel junkie.
As a strong believer of "journey, not the destination", that is how I approach all my videos. As I try to grow this channel, hopefully you'll follow me on this journey.

Japan Airlines (JAL) is the flag carrier of Japan. JAL is headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Its main hubs are Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports, as well as Osaka's Kansai and Itami airports.
Not many airlines operate a true blue first class service on domestic flights. Japan still relishes in premium service and JAL shows the world how it is done. From start to finish, it is one experience I cannot forget.

Hoi, Ryan, really interesting to follow. Well done. Food looks like amazing. Been to Japan and JapanAirlines. Like it. Greetings, Markus
Omg, I so enjoyed joining you vicariously on this journey and am now really tempted to visit Japan! Your experience really exemplified the word "splendid". I was smiling from ear to ear just watching. "Something tells me this is not a Qantas Club"... I nearly spat my tea out. :D It's probably not even a Qantas domestic business lounge but I digress.
Thanks man... Actually Taiwan is very much like Japan. Just that Mandarin is spoken there. The more I travel and film, the more I feel how cheated we are down under with our so called premium offerings by QF.
Are you from Japan originally?
Hahaha no. Singapore born and bred.
Great video Ryan and the food looked delicious.
Can never go wrong with Japanese catering on JAL. Simply exquisite especially in First and Business.
Thanks for posting. Wife and I flew HND-CTS First Class on the A350 back in February. A truly exquisite experience.
I know right? There is something about flying premium with a Japanese airline.
Love the quiet surroundings so peaceful and civilised
Very tranquil. I could have fallen asleep...
Another great video Ryan. Love your sense of humour.
Thanks for watching!
Japan is one of those countries where you can't act in public the way one does in the West, especially when they bow at the start and end of service. But it is also a country that may appear small on the map. You may even mistake Tokyo and Osaka for being too close enough to be reached by plane. And yet, the shinkansen takes a couple of hours to travel both cities.
Indeed.... The Shinkansen took about 2.5hrs between Osaka and Tokyo. Yes, Japanese are very well behaved in public. The loud ones with mobile phones going off and chatting loudly are usually foreigners.
@ it reminds me of what happened at a masseuse the other night. Someone in the neighbouring room made noise on his phone whilst I was trying to relax.
great airline great video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! Cheers.
Thanks Ryan for sharing your adventures .. I hope I get the chance to see it all before I leave to go to China in January .. as you know I will have the firewall while there but I do have an vpn until 2026 ..
There will be a fair few episodes by the time we hit January. The travel series should be heading to Taiwan by then.

We flew back by China South Airline from Rome to Brisbane through Guangzhou, CZ 381, on 23 Nov 2024. The luggages were transferred to Brisbane directly without picking up in Guangzhou. We got the boarding pass tickets in Rome Fiumicino Airport when we checked in. We went through the immigration becasue we just enjoyed the free hotel service by China Southern Airlines for those who do not have a transfer time more than 24 hours. As our layover time for the transfer at Guangzhou was 6.5 hours, we enjoyed the free hotel. We showered and did a small nap at GINCO Hotel Guangzhou, Baiyun Airport. All are free, including the transfer shuttle bus. Actually, there were aroung 8 hotels for customers to choose from and we just chose one close to the airport. We paid around $1200 AUD pp for round trip from Brisbane of Australia to Rome. But the price should be higher now. For free accommodations by China Southern Airlines, refer to www.csair.com/en/tourguide/transit_flow/free/ Comparing Number 1 Lounge at Getwick, we paid $90 AUD pp for the First Class Lounge at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport during the transferring layover time of around 6 hours on the way from Brisbane to Rome. In the First Class Lounge we had a very good dinner including free champagne (sparkling) and we had individual shower in the bathroom. That $90 pp included possible short napping in a cabin with bed in the lounge. But there were only 4 cabins for the short accommodation.
Don’t prick tease me bro

The 3 Golden Rules of Flying: 1. Pick a great airline. 2. Fly over land as much as possible. 3. Break up your trip.
Wise words!
I tried this bus on 9 December
Hope you enjoyed it!
We hope your fellows Chinese passengers in ECONOMY Class were NOT too noisy and rude or too peasantry?. We had bad experiences before , in FLY and CRUISING . with the Chinese people. No more from then on .....we make sure we don't fly or in Cruising with these Chinese passengers again. They were screaming , yelling and gargling while we were trying to sleep in long fly....so disgusting . They have NO regard and NO sense of respect with other passengers..." rude , stunt face and NO emotion " ...we had enough ....we try to avoid these people if possible .

Ooh lala! what a huge mistake flying AF for long haul flights. Even French themselves avoid to do it. The only time i fly AF is with Transavia their low-cost sister company coz you really know what you get for what you pay -> means very low prices tickets and of course NO service onboard. Thks for the vid 👍🤗
Look, AF had it's good moments as well. It was just a tale of 2 extremes. It made for great content though! Hahahaha...
Love the Gordon Ramsay 80’s disco short
Hahahaha yes I can't stop staring at it. It's so trippy! 😂
Can I ask…..why the 19hr layover in Guangzhou….was it by choice or transit time……did you stay somewhere while waiting…👍

Looks like Sapporo has some great food options especially if you like seafood. Shame you missed out on the snowfall.
Sapporo really gives me a lot of NZ vibes. It's so chilled, and not crowded at all.

Haha you should try it! 😂
Ryan, we walked those two city blocks in Sapporo last June, this was an envious reminder of the wonders and varieties of food across Japan. The one specialty of Sapporo we enjoyed was a Ghenghis Khan Restaurant not far from where you were. You’re probably aware of this Sapporo speciality of bbq marinated salted mutton cooked on steel domes at the table. We tried an all you can eat and drink option…10 tankards of Sapporo Lager and piles of delicious marinated salted mutton are quite a memory! The passion for food in Japan (and Asia) leaves me somewhat frustrated with how Australia approaches an “affordable” quality variety of cuisines…affordable being the key word. Eating in Japan was a delicious “bargain”. Once again a passionate and well produced Ryan So Fly vlog.🤗👌🏻
That’s great to hear that you had a great time! Just so you know, I tried to get to Genghis Khan when I arrived. The outlet nearest to me was full. That's how I ended up at the curry shop, which was totally unplanned. Why do you think I'm always eating through Asia? Always so cheap and good.
@@ryansofly Yes, I sure get value being a great reason to travel for food across Asia…fortunately we were able to book our Ghenghis Kahn experience…it was on the 14th floor and occupied the whole space…another unique thing about Japan and many restaurants being in multi floor buildings…
@@james7149 YES!! I went to similar set ups in Osaka, restaurant levels randomly located on skyscrapers. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur does have similar set ups no doubt inspired by Japan.

Another fantastic video man. Didn’t know that the Hamburger meal had a Japanese variation. On a side note, your pronunciation of the airport names is/are impeccable. It’s actually soothing to listen to! I would absolutely cluelessly butcher the pronunciation if I ever tried haha.
Thanks man... I cannot take the credit. All I'm good at is imitation... So I listen to what Google tells me, and I regurgitate everything out, for the Japanese bit at least. As for Mandarin, well it's my 3rd spoken language. 😏
Another great vid, Ryan! I was about to fly with them in Sep from SIN to Vancouver but was called off just days before taking off when my cat fell ill and later diagnosed with cancer. Was so close to tasting (some) good food and the warm hospitality 😊 I actually pre-ordered a special meal of Indian food just in case the main food tray isn't to my liking...will keep in mind to order the Asian meal when travelling with an Asian airline 😄 Oh, I was also very impressed with the (Taiwanese) staff from the Ticketing Office here in SG as she helped me with the cancellation. She reminded me that I can also request to get a refund for the the seat selections as well which I presumed would be forfeited like another major airline here would have done. Kudos to them!
CI has an extremely capable call center as well. And they're also very bilingual, fluent in both Mandarin and English. I had to call them to get my seats sorted for all sectors and they were a joy to deal with. Sorry about your cat... Hugs.
Thanks Ryan!
Unfortunately Latam it’s terrible, poor quality service and total disrespect for the customers. I’m not talking about the airplanes, if you have money you can buy. The service in land it’s awful . I took a flight London to Sao Paulo and back and was the a nightmare, delays in flights, no information, no support and finally they lost my luggage that I received in the next day but my luggage was destroyed. After weeks, I’m still waiting for a refund…. I do t think so I will receive.
Ouch... So sorry to hear about your experience with LATAM. Their ground service is really shit. Pity though because I actually enjoyed the flight.
I flew with these, never again.
Yikes... What happened?
Thanks for the review. We're looking to take CS to Europe next year but needed to convince the husband that it's a legit airline for the price!
Glad you enjoyed the review. Hopefully it helped convince the husband! Thanks for watching!
Getting a little moist under the pits? 😂😂😂
Doing FIFO, the F100 are the best planes, bet the A320 200 hands down.
The seat pitch on the A320 is abysmal!
Under KMT rule, everyone of their Air Force pilots had to be either born in China or their parents had to be born in China. The KMT Chinese didnt trust any of Taiwanese to fly any aircraft at all. Same applied to the mechanics and maintenance crew for China Airlines. All the incidents happened during their rules and immediate few years afterwards when their crew remained KMT Chinese as it were. EVA on the other hand has always stayed away from ex-military and also didn't exclude Taiwanese crew and maintenance workforce. I believe that Singapore Airlines also have a large number of their pilots that are ex-Singaporean Airforce officers. Out of Australia, only China Airlines service the Taiwan-Australia routes these days.
When you say "Taiwanese", do you mean the 台湾土著? That's a very fascinating insight into the hiring practices of CI which adds another layer of complexity. With regards to Singapore Airlines, I too was an ex air force officer when I joined them as a pilot trainee.
Awesome and informative. Can you add details on where and how far in advance you can book these tickets.
I booked these seats 3 months in advance.
