Yu are correct the Postal Worker was just trying to take advantage of the Driver...I work for The Post Office but I drive a 11 ton Box Truck and 18 Wheeler for the Post Office. They just trying to make sure that there work is less on them
Most postal workers know that we’re not supposed to stag nor enter the postal office, let alone break down pallets for them. It’s a curtesy if you decide to bring them in but in my case it’s the dock or sit them inside the doorway. I’ve been reported so many times that I’ve lost count 😂
I tell them at first contact, grab your pallet jacket. I'm not even going in.

I didn't know that your allowed to leave a pallets unattended if there's a sign saying its ok to leave it.

The post office worker told me to return the load if I was not going to break it down. They tell all drivers the same thing.

Had that said to me and the facility was 200 miles away . I told him I can’t do that but I will drop it just past the door. He knew better but I was in another state trying to work my way back home.
Should you move your truck and allow their truck to offload
If I’m unloading it’s not happening. But if they aren’t open yet, I’ll move and let truck unload because some of them have a key to the post office.
I went to the bell Mawr nj post office to drop off circular mail outs, chic in there tried to have me unload, wheel it over to the scale and then stage it..I shut the door and left and called the company, they straightened it for me

You can tell which post offices expect you to break it down. If your arrival and departure is 30 minutes apart you are expected to break it down. If it’s just 12 minutes drop the pallets and go.

I haven’t ran into that issue. I’ll get on that phone call with ROC, if they refuse it Amazon will be paying me to return those pallets. I’d also make a note not to book that post office again.
No doubt, they will try you. It also depends on the amount of time they give you for the drop off. If its the standard 12 minutes then its a no go but if they give you 30 minutes it is "expected" that the pallet is broken down IF necessary. Also we aren't even supposed to enter the post office so you can use this as your reason for not doing the extra, extra...

This is exactly why I typically do postal routes I’m familiar with. I’ve never ran into these situations in all of my 3 years running Amazon. But I prefer Amazon to Amazon anyway.
True, I was about to say the same thing, Rio! At those POs that don't have traditional docks where we have to offload w/our lift gate and/or narrow doorways, Amazon gives us 30 mins for the shenanigans. Last Feb., I had a 5-drop route and 3 of those gave me a 30-minute window. I said, "Never again!" 😡

I think some things are just common sense. You have to be a new new fool to do something like that.Them folks know damn well the drivers don’t do that
How do you get started with relay without wasting a couple of months on truck insurance waiting for them to maybe get you paid. I understand there are other revenue streams but dang. I'm not trying to play the man other than this man.
Age your DOT 6 months before you get the truck or work off of someone's DOT
It’s in the ddu rules if the pallet won’t fit thru there door u are required to break it done per Amazon rules for ddu
Them loads don’t pay enough money to be doing all of that. That would be the last time I book that p.o. 🤦🏾♂️
Amazon Relay is trash in my area now anyways I haven’t ran a load since before Christmas
