Hey Dank, that white film on old plastics and rubbers are plasticizers and other additives that slowly separate from the polymers. Newer stuff is meant to stay bound or not need a separate plasticizer, which is why there's a specific era of 'junk that becomes slime.'
I am a big fan of box art, so seeing how hard they were trying to sell this nugget is amazing. They really wanted you to know that it was made for the devotees of sports. In the end it might be slightly better than a standard nugget!

I picked up the Samson SR850's right after he put out the video on it. I've never been happier with a pair of headphones. From gaming to music to podcasts, I've genuinely never heard anything better. They're also my first open-backs, and the fact that I can hear people with the headphones on and music off is such a useful feature for my day-to-day life
Hey Wade. About the iTunes functionality. I think the version of iTunes your iMac is running is too new to handle manky old MP3 players that originally worked with MusicMatch, which is what iTunes was based off of. I think if you get an older version of iTunes, preferably older than 2004, then it'll work really good.
The short cable with an added extension was somewhat common back in the day for "sports" headphones. I think the idea was to create a breaking point that would disconnect the headphones if the cable got caught on something in an attempt to prevent your device/ears from taking the brunt of the force.

Shipping it with a rechargeable NiMH AA and charger was a great idea, I wish more devices nowadays would go that route instead of using lithium batteries that you can't replace.
@@resneptacle in what way? They both power the device, and the NiMH cells have the benefit of being extremely easy to swap when they run out instead of having to plug the entire device in for hours. Lithium batteries have the advantage with power density and size, you wouldn't want to run your cell phone off AAAs, but for devices where either makes sense I'd argue AAs/AAAs are the better way to go.
@@Thanatos2996 You can always use 18650s, you can buy them in every e-cig shop. Buying them literally anywhere else makes them way less overpriced though. There are even chargers that take both li-ion and nimh batteries, so you can have just one of them. The removal of one battery and inserting another is the ultimate form of fast charging, and I wish that more devices that can or in fact use 18650s (but soldered in and hidden) would do it in a way that makes them easy to remove and insert another. I sorely miss the removable batteries in smartphones because I always had a spare, and I wouldn't have to walk around with a big ass power bank and a cable hanging out of my pocket whenever my phone died.

I'm not opposed to lithium batteries being used instead of NiMH, the only drawback is that they're not intercompatible with AAs (they do make lithium batteries with a cell, charge circuitry, and voltage step down in a AA-sized shell, but those don't have great capacity and they're always charged with a USB on the side that I've seen, which is a bit of a pain).

They claim 3Wh per cell, but maybe only under an exactly optimal load. They are always half-emtry when I want to use them, so they have high self discharge. Add to that poor performance at high currents, and noisy voltage. I can hear those batteries when used in a Walkman. So I don'tuse them much.
Considering Jordan was playing in his last NBA season with two busted knees and various other injuries in 2003, I'd say the general "doesn't really function as well as you'd hope" feel of this nugget is a fitting homage.

what I think it means by compatible with iTunes is that it can audio files from iTunes but it can’t be read by iTunes, which means you can take the files that you purchased on iTunes and put them on the device through the files application in your computer.

It make sense for the button to be covered with rubbers to make it sweat-proof (+ the port is covered behind the battery door). And it comes with a decent looking arm band. Good luck using an iPod Mini while jogging with that little Microdrive inside it. As for that “works with iTunes” thingy, I’m pretty sure it means it comes with iTunes plug-in inside the disc (remember when iTunes used to have plug-in support?). And I’m also pretty sure the plug-in only works with older iTunes (and it may only work for Mac).

Ni-MH batteries are one step up from the old Ni-Cd batteries. Their potential kind of got cut short by the development of Li-ion. To hear my chemistry professor talk about them, they were well on their way to getting seriously good.
