I never realized how much I would miss Sharapova. She was such a tigress. Tennis lost something with her retirement. But... everything must come to an end sooner or later.

This Sha-Hal match was one of the most competitive grand slam finales in women's tennis. It's awesome to watch when Sharapova plays aggressive and with precision. You will be missed, Maria Sharapova!
Visiting here now that she's announced her retirement. It still astounds me how Maria retooled her game to become an accidental claycourt specialist. She likes those courts hard and fast, but the shoulder surgery in 2008 has weakened her serve. But she turned that weakness into weapon. She turned her eyes into the court that she hated the most. I will always love her for the attitude that she has shown - when life gives you lemons, make a lemonade!
That's exactly what I thought about her. She has a heart of a champion. I mean her serve which could easily be 180+ slowed down drastically. Her toss became worse. It affected her performance on grass especially where she won her first slam. I think her serve was one of the reasons she couldn't even challenge Serena. If you see before that shoulder surgery her matches against Serena went 3 sets many times and were tough too.
But whatever, when her serve weakened she improved other things in her game, like movement on clay, to become one of the hottest players on clay between 2011-14. That's why she is so amazing.
Yes, you explained it perfectly, she really took advantage of the high bounce ball, slow court to position herself well to execute a perfect angle winners. Yes her serve became inconsistent, but she still managed to faster serve speed in term average 2nd serve, faster than a lot of ATP players.

Just finished watching all of Sharapova Grand Slam finals highlights. Miss watching her. One of the best!! She beat 5 different players in all the finals and 4 of them were Grand Slam winners and no 1 themselves (Serena, Justine Henin, Ana Ivanovic & Simona Halep).

Simona really seems to be a lovely character. She had really tough losses in Grand Slam Finals, but now that she has finally won Roland Garros, her favorite tournament, and Wimbledon, the most prestigious one, she can play way more freely, but you still see an immense fighting spirit whenever she is on the court, it’s just impossible not to admire her!

I agree Simona is such a lovely character. Shame about the character of other top players who won so many grand slams and still scream and cry when they lose.
I was there in 2014 and still remember there was an A380 model plane camera strung over the venue and how loud her scream was heard to the outcourts. It was an impressive moment.
I was in Amsterdam for vacations when this match and spend the whole morning preparing myself to watch it.
My God... Maria played so well. What a move down the court, a superlative forehand. Cannot even imagine how fast time passes. Great match, great atmosphere on the court. 5th and the last (sad) Grand Slam in her great career.
Thanks to Maria we can still enjoy her incredible play and talent in the court 👏👏

It is not ban in taking meldonium up to 2015 during ao n maria dont know thats was prohibited already n thats not her fault n she accept the penalty not to play for 15 monhts. After that in 2017 at the us open she beat simona halep in the 1st round with jampacked crowd. Maria show to the world even without meldoniom that you are saying she can win the game. In china she beat sabalenka it show that maria is the greatest player of all time in womens professional player. Few people is envy of maria because from nothing she become rich n very humble n people love her smile n beauty thats why up to now shes very popular n many people waiting for her to play again next year just to see her in the court. Dont jeluos on maria because shes an honest women with good family background.
