    It kinda reminds me of the Wawrinka/Djokovic match in 2015. Everything looked laid up for Djokovic/Halep to finally win the title that had eluded them for years and it started of so well with them winning the first set. Then everything change when their opponents started playing the best tennis of their lives and just blew them off the court. Both were also able to come back a year later and finally go all the way.

      impossible to play like that all the time. IMPOSSIBLE. Look at Rezai, played like that to win the Madrid open 2010 , where is she a few years later.... you cant expect to hit the ball hard on every shot and not let up. Same with Roddick - rODDICK USED TO hit every ball hard when he was younger. safin commented that he wont be able to hit the ball hard on every shot for too long, its impossible

    It‘s amazing how heavily Ostapenko hit so many of her shots! No one could defend against that! She was just playing with a free mind and no expectations, while Simona, as she also said in her speech, had a lot pressure weigh on her shoulders. She always wanted to win grand slams dearly. In the end, all those efforts paid off, but here it was another tough loss. Thankfully, she didn‘t end up like Safina, who just couldn‘t handle the pressure, but deserves at least one grand slam in her career. Ostapenko seems to end a bit like Ivanovic, who couldn‘t reach her level of 2008 ever again, although Ostapenko is yet not nearly as successful as her...

    Hey all 👋 who are wondering how come Jelena Ostapenko level decrease so much after this RG.
    1) She did not have experience playing WTA tournaments prior: (THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT) to learn how to be out there day and night and become consistent 😀
    ***Emna Raducanu is having the same problem after winning her 1st title as the US 🇺🇸 open 2021.
    2) Jelena's father became ill and passed away 😔 (2019 I believe).
    This is, for anyone, a life event that can make you quit. But for young people it is worse.
    ***** Irina Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova's father also passed around the same time as Jelena's.
    It seems they are recovering and playing better than 1-2years ago.
    Jelena is recovering and playing better. SHE RECENTLY WON DUBAI 🏆 👏

      @@djordjenikolic9059 Why do you say that? So if Halep won more it would be stronger? Maybe it's a strong era of tennis because the same people can't find success every time: better competition. Maybe the weak eras were the ones where, like, a 17 year old could come along and dominate for years. Not saying one or the other is true, but it's hard to believe that a sport that offers female athletes some of the biggest purses of any sport isn't attracting good talent. Personally find it hard to believe that any era is weak.

    April 30, 2023 revisiting this epic game AFTER Ostapenko lost to Samsonova with ease. Mysteriously what's seen here is what was seen in Madrid today as for service & ground stroke. Ostapenko serving the same, hitting forehand the same. Identical swings maintained, results vary wildly. I still dont get at this player .....

    From non biased opinion: We all knew that this trophy belonged to Simona Halep. But she really choked that second set. But that's tennis you can't give in easily, you lost a point, make sure you win the next 3-4 points. That's how you win, glad she redeemed herself inn '18 RG.

    • @sternmarks1097
      @sternmarks1097 3 года назад +5

      She didnt choke at all bcuz ostapenko had atleast 7 times more winners than halep so dont try to discredit her performanc ok she raised her level a d halep couldnt handle it

    • @machineofadream
      @machineofadream Год назад

      Halep was playing good defensive tennis, but Ostapenko fully dictated the match. I can't agree that it was Halep's trophy or even that she choked. She was just unable to control the points.

    Ostapenko plays very good. I believe she still does. I am not sure why she is a bit far away from the top ten.
    It's likely the other players have also picked up their own game and that would be why.

    Sabotage tennis. When you see a player enter the zone, like Jelena did here, you've got to slow them down. JUNK. them. If you watch again, you might notice that Jelena was hitting winners off Simona's well-struck balls. If Simona hit a relatively attackable ball, Jelena didn't put it away, but if Simona hit a sold drive tot he baseline, Jelena pounded it into a corner...even on the run. That means she was using Simona's pace, and was IN THE ZONE. The ZONE doesn't last forever, so you have to make the opponent work when she's in their. I would have sliced, drooped, moon-balled, lobbed, brought her in....anything to get Jelena to hit something different than a groundstroke off a solid drive. I would have served underhanded once or twice to make her think about her service return. Maybe Simona did try those things on the points that are not shown, and it didn't work. I don't know. But it was a moonball that Simona hit in the 3rd set that forced an error to give Halep the 3-1 lead. Simona played some fabulous defense, and seemed like she never gave up....I'll give her that. Jelena needs a Plan B. She was very frustrated when Aga junked her to death a few years ago, after this, in a big match. To rely on this kind of power and precision is a difficult way to go. Adding some junk to her own game might help. Jelena is not very fast or very tall, so becoming a regular slam contender is not going to be likely, but a well-rounded game would improve her results, and lower her frustrations level.

    Glad that Jelena won. Halep kills me with that damned groaning screech of hers. It's bush league bs. You won't hear hardly any sound at all from Swiatek. Just as it was with Navratilova, Graf, Evert, Henin.

    Those ridiculous screams and howling ruin the show for me. Such behaviour should be forbidden, it makes tennis match a joke.
