I have played tennis since the 70’s and I have seen all kinds of style of play over the years. For me if I am playing on courts that are near each other and if a player is grunting like that next to where I am playing it really bothers me. It makes it hard to concentrate and I can’t enjoy my time on the court. I can understand it on a few hard to get returns but all the time I have actually packed up early and left the courts because of it. I like to see younger players take up the game and more recently I have also seen younger players copy what the top players are doing by yelling after each hit. I know Maria is a great player but her style is not for me. Just my personal opinion.
Then why are her matches always packed? Why are they always close? You must be mentally weak if grunting throws you off. It doesn't bother the pros or the paying customers that sold out this stadium.
