We had a great time together, doing amazing things. It was so obvious on all our faces from deep concentration to pure joy that we are a great team. Can't wait for our next adventure!
I'm so excited, I just got my first delivery of epoxy and color from Stone Coat Countertops! I'm about to make my first counter top and I have already decided on many future projects that I have in mind after watching this video!! Thank you SCC!!!
So, I watched the entire video. Either I missed it, or you never said, what it cost approximately. I was waiting for the cost comparison to the $16k for the natural slabs.
Mike, Mitch did give that but it was kind of blink-and-youll-miss-it . At about 25m25s he said "the slabs cost 17k, you can do this with epoxy for 25% of that, leaving you room in your price to add in labor" (that's a slight paraphrase) Now, I haven't these epoxy products but at $4,250 and 300sf, that works out to $14.17 per sq ft with the epoxy. Note that the $17k for the granite slabs was not including the edge finish or seaming the edges together. I'm really surprised at the epoxy cost. The other materials involved are tape, weatherstripping, fiberglass mesh, and the foam panels. So @Stone Coat Countertops, is this material cost ($14/sf) in the proper ball park?
It's a tricky thing to say what it will cost you (the customer). Everyone's cost is different with labor, materials and experience. You do get an idea of the materials used and manpower to make it happen. Yes, to do this with epoxy if much more affordable and offers a huge range of looks depending on skill levels.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love this video for so many reasons! The comrade, the team work, the obvious love and admiration you have for each other shines through! On top of seeing the innovative ideas that you applied to complete this gorgeous backdrop! Great work y’all! You got this! I am praying I will be able to attend classes in 2023. It’s a goal for me! 🥰

How do you get rid of the orange peel texture, i can see it through the camera Is there another finishing stage like sanding/buffing upwards to 1000 grit?
Can you really use this panel in the shower? Because it’s on the foam board or was that just done for demonstration of the training? So for a shower panel would it be on wood or mfd panel?

I just tried SCC and shortly after mixing it, it heated and hardened. I noticed the first coat was a little stiff (yes, I mixed 1:1 ratio). It wouldn't level out even after torching. I'm so disappointed! I was really looking forward to my new countertops. I studied your videos for over a year before finally diving in. Guess I'll go with paint after I try to remove the epoxy globs from my countertop. 😕

You can pour over Masonite, but you’ll need to prep well with a bonding primer first. I wouldn’t recommend using Masonite in a shower however. The foam board is water proof making it an idea substrate for shower panels.

In my opinion, if you’re using the matte finish, you’re trying to knock down that high gloss sheen. I love how the matte looks over certain finishes. Makes it look more realistic and not so much like plastic. I always recommend doing a sample board so you know what to expect before you apply it to your project.
As someone who has both surfaces in their home, I hate to say it but epoxy is not a good long term durable surface. It does scratch. It is sensitive to heat. A warm crockpot on my kitchen island sunk into the surface requiring repair. Stone is much more durable in kitchens. That said I do like epoxy on tables and bathroom vanities, etc. It looks good and it is much cheaper than "real" products but dont expect miracles. Its a plastic coating at the end of the day.
@@thalinororcbreaker2840 The kitchen island was stone coat with the top coat. I have used other much cheaper brands on other projects as well. I am a fan of epoxy in general, but it has its weaknesses. The top coat may help resist scratches but it seems to do nothing for heat resistance. You have to remember what the stuff is. Its a form of hardened plastic. Some are stronger than others. It depends on the amount of BPA (if any) in the product as well as what type and how much of various solvents are in it as well. Im sure plenty of people can use it with good luck if extra precautions are taken not to put hot things on it or bang it too hard. My experience was just that the kitchen was not the place for it.
So, this is pretty concerning to me. I've been slowly getting stoked up to possibly try to maybe someday do out kitchen 🙂, and watched a video that the SC crew did on heat and scratch resistance. But @Boost331s comment kind of brings me to a full stop in my plans. Can we get real-life experience comments from others as well?
@@boost331 I have used a crock pot on mine and not had any problems. Nor have I had any serious scratches, even on stuff without the ultimate top coat.
