As, always, thanks so much for watching and supporting my channel! If you'd like to get in on the first run of shirts, here's a link: blacktailstudioshop.com/pages/merch-drop
Oh wow, Jay Leno is one of your clients?
Your editor was right, I did really appreciate the clean up, especially the fact that even a bit of dust can ruin epoxy.
Thanks for the video, good work like always. You could have linked Mosevic in your description tho 🤔
@@Joshua_Lambert Good call, done.
Also, please show us your sample process, ie the experimentation. I'm curious about the numbers, like how many variations of recipes or processes did you try? I'd watch a 3 part series on that, if it doesn't already exist.
The camera guy is the real mvp. "Can't you just buy denim?" 😂 just imagine the cost had you done this in Levi's.
Next video idea

I like how this channel went from a very elegant wood working channel to the most chaotic shit you’ve seen in the woodworking community
Difference between you and John malecki is he’s most likely coked up with the shit he pulls😂but you’re most likely breathing in that Portland air just got you messed up.
Mvp?
The Jable turned out great! The "Cant you just buy denim?" killed me lmao
Was about to like this comment but it's at 69 rn. Nice...
Jable has a catchy ring to it
I thought your autocorrect had accidentally kicked in, but Jable is a great name for this project. You should copyright it quick and then get Cam to trade it off you in return for a free Jable...😄
Dan!
All that's missing is the Jairs and other jurniture
I do not know how your video popped up in my account, but as a crafter, sewer, and thrifty recycler... I watched every second! This process was so fascinating. And the results?! Just incredible. If you want to use the pants think smaller, end tables, coffee tables, maybe some modernist designs with curves and skinny legs.
BRASS WAS GENIUS whether intentional or not, the brass mimics the studs in making of genes, and your brass outlets were just cherries on the dessert❣ and the leather is also a nod the the jeans lifestyle. All thats left is to get leather tags embossed with your branding to put your claim to these art pieces. You are absolutely on to something. And you can add design elements with your colored epoxy like rhinestones. ❤❤❤
I am the same. I'm not sure how I got here, but I'm glad I did. That end result was incredible! Amazing choices all around!
As for my favorite brand of jeans, I'm not sure I have one. I can't remember the last time I got consecutive pairs from the same brand.
The denim, leather, brass combo table is an instant classic and would fit in almost any casual space. I love the fact that the denim slab could be used as stock to make parts. I can see people using it for automotive trim pieces, gun stocks and grips and even jewelery. And you haven’t even scratched the surface of different colors or tie dyed denim.
"Picasso was a horrible woodworker." 😂😂😂 Fantastic work as always. Love the denim and brass look.
He deserved that table 100%. Talk about a humble man. I don't know if I like the idea of using denim, or his leather wrapping skills more! Kudos to both of you for making an amazing desk!
Phenomenal project mate, and deserving recipient.
I agree. Well deserved! And a nice gesture.
Thank you guys so much!
The main thing is that he likes it. I love this table, but I don't have space for two or more tables at home, if I had to choose, I would choose wood. This table lacks depth, something like 3D milling at a depth of 8/10, in the shape of the same jeans, with some interesting ragged relief (so that all layers can be seen) then poured with super transparent resin. Because now the table looks like it's fiberboard laminated with a single layer of denim, it doesn't feel like it's made entirely of denim.
“Picasso was a terrible wood worker.”🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Frankly speaking, I'm actually full of admiration for people like you who dare anything just to produce something innovative. What energy required... and what talent it takes !
Wrangler - Denim Phase, yes! Love that you honor the artistic tradition. Original paintings in artist original frames, sculptures on bases, table tops on legs. May you continue to find new ways to elevate the craft and artistry!
Awesome project! Since you asked for suggestions-as an aerospace engineer, my mind jumps to vacuum infusion. It’s a pretty common technique in aircraft manufacturing, and one of the big benefits is you can completely avoid the mess of epoxy.
You would basically put the whole denim stack in a sealed bag with some “flow media” as the top layer. Then you pull vacuum on the bag on one side and allow your epoxy to flow in through the other side. Once it’s fully infused, you let it cure under vacuum. Then you can peel the bag off it and ideally you have a perfect denim layup with no mess. Hope this helps!
I've heard of that. It's how carbon fiber is made. Yes, it would probably work brilliantly!
I've seen the vacuum bag method work as a means to make micarta successfully before, using various materials and both glue and epoxy, so this would be great at a much larger scale like this desk.
Infusion could have made this an easy one day project.
Bruh that’s genius 😂
And not expensive to set up
Honestly, this kind of falls into the art category. It's super unique, and kinda wacky, but also reserved and beautiful. This is the kind of stuff that's puts you in future art history and design classes dude. Well done.
This is past "kind of art" it is art, I think he can charge more if you can't afford art at least you can watch it being created for free
Take that picasso!
lol wat
American eagle denim ….. love love love your table!!! It’s truly a work of art! The leather legs fit it like a great pair of boots… so kind of you to gift it like that! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with!
That Denim looked absolutely beautiful after it came out of the planner. My vote is you do one like that next as a set of coffee table. Great work and as always very inspiring
This is beyond CRAZY!!! Every single little detail and over all is super unique and looks amazing!
LEVIS... I am absolutely speechless on so many fronts. Firstly, you tried something totally new and really struggled with it, but eventually created a masterpiece. Secondly you collaborated with an absolute artist (perfectionist) not unlike like yourself. Thirdly, you rewarded him with the gift of the work of art that you both created together.
I am embarrassed that all I can do to support you is subscribing to your channel and commenting on every video of yours that I see. You are a craftsman, a gentleman and a great human being. I salute you.
More than enough John, thanks for the support!
Blacktail Studio is my favourite brand of denim now. Seriously though, this is one of my all time fav projects you've made. So cool looking.
Should we call it blacktail denim ?😂
I love it
Appreciate that bud 👊
The ending was so cute. It was really sweet of you to give him the table.
This was my first video I've ever seen of yours...this piece is truly one of THE most STUNNING pieces of craftsmanship between two artists!!! If I could afford to purchase a work of art like that for my home...I would be HONORED and BLESSED to have that piece in my home!!
In my humble opinion this is your best piece yet. The whole premise of it, the journey, the heartbreak, turning the corner and then giving it to Shaneen... Awesome!!!
I like grey denim, so I’d love to see a desk in that shade. This desk is amazing, and the warm/cool colour contrast is perfect. More denim projects please!
Wearing gray denim at this moment!
Oooohhh, I love that idea too!
Grey denim is the best denim or black
It was on this piece that I realized why I liked you and subscribed immediately finding you 4 yrs ago. Aside from your awesome talent you're authentic in every aspect. This is genuinely you, no script or filter... LoL I appreciate you and your gifts to all of us. 🙏
I love light wash denim! The table was amazing! I've never seen anything like it. I love all things resin and epoxy. So watching how you put that table together was awesome! Thank you!
Honestly appreciate how genuine you are about feeling like you’ve messed up. As someone just starting out in woodworking it often feels like everyone on RUclips is making masterpieces and you’re the only one making mistakes. Thank you
Where’s the fun in a project that goes smoothly??
@@BlacktailStudio Yes I've only every learned from my mistakes so people aren't willing to show their mistakes.
@@BlacktailStudio It might be fun, I wouldn't know 😅
@@BlacktailStudio if it goes smoothly, know that somewhere there will be a huge hiccup...😅
I haven't done much woodworking yet but I understand how you feel not only with that but with any art I've done.
Honestly, I'm not necessarily a denim enthusiast (for things other than jeans), so I was quite skeptical going into the video. I'm blown away of how much I like it. And the stitching on those legs .....wow, such craftsmanship from you both.
I love that you push the envelope and just go with your vision - Gives the rest of us artists the courage to try. Beautiful work.
It's prettty neat how the epoxy goes in clear and comes out blue from the colour of the denim! Also neat how chipping it all off the floor seems to have cleaned your floor. World's most expensive mop right there.
As a textile designer this would be smart for textile waste, many textile factories give the waste fabrics for free. Smaller pieces like nightstand tops for smaller pieces, you could use printed fabrics too. It's a interesting idea to use old curtains that fall apart as a table would look awesome.
Yeah, agree. That way we would also save more tree for being used as furniture.
@@LuQiYun Trees regrow (through saplings) within years, deforestation is the problem, the moment a tree is cut it frees up the sky for another tree to take the sunlight and then it's a race about which sapling tree grows faster to take the spot.
I think you could definitely industrially make it a useful process. Think about the Trabant body panel production, except with epoxy instead of phenolic resin - and with manually laid out strips of denim instead of shredded fuzz.
@@Exknight2 but the fact is nowadays human cut more trees than needed, lot of forest gone.
That's why he said deforestation is the problem. That's the complete removal of forest. Cutting down trees to use for limber and paper is usually not bad. They don't kill the entire landscape. They just take the mature trees, which, like he said, allows saplings to mature.
I'm an old (87) lady that loves to watch you create! I love the look of denim for the table. It gave me the idea of making denim coasters. I got too old to sell my resin items at craft shows, so I give it all away. I think you are a great artist!
Denim coasters ! Great idea.
Could just use a roller to squeeze the Epoxy out. Genius.
What a lovely comment from a lovely woman
Perfect idea for a smaller scale project for the rest of us!! Great for Christmas & birthdays! ❤from KS.
Denim wall clock ???
that's a great idea... denim coasters. please let me know if you're serious about this project. I'd love denim coasters
I have tried this on a very, very small scale and was astonished how difficult it was to soak the denim sufficiantly. So I am really amazed how well it turned out for you. Amazing piece of art indeed! 😍😍😍
Absolutely stunning! The leather legs and brass ‘buttons’ are genius.
You could start a whole channel just for scraping epoxy off stuff, so satisfying to watch 😄
@thomasfrank Why did you discountinue making videos? :(

@@Thomasfrankgotta love a good side quest 😎
Awesome build. For a great mold release, spray the table lightly with scotch photo mount (not super 77) then cover with aluminum foil and build up glass/ resin from there. Foil stays stuck to resin but the whole mess will come right off the table.
and where is that scraped off epoxy now?
This is definitely one of the coolest projects I’ve seen. The leather wrapped legs were a perfect complement to the desk.
@Old Salty The edges would be super obvious that that is how it was done. You could do that, yes, but the end result would be quite different.
That table was so beautiful! And it was a very sweet and thoughtful thing to surprise him with it.
Too bad he didn't even say thank you or "I love it" or a single nice thing about the amazing table he was being gifted. He didn't seem excited in the slightest. It was as if someone brought him a Snickers back from the gas station. Maybe I'm missing something about his personality, but that complete lack of gratitude really bummed me out.
This turned out amazing. The brass outlets look like big brass buttons as well, which fits the denim and leather look. It's like if your furniture was clothing. Super cool!
I don't have a favorite brand of denim but if I had to choose, I'd go with this table. Absolutely stunning result!
You cant wear a table, what are you NUTS!?
@@aerball wearing tables.. it's cutting edge fashion 😁
Those brass fittings on the top of the desk are just perfect. They look like buttons on a pair of jeans and tie the whole theme together. Great result.
My favorite brand? Whatever denim is on sale and in my size at Walmart or Meijer. Jeans are meant for ripping and replacing. Thank you for the inspiration in showing your audience it's okay to color outside of the lines, and that keeping your cool in the face of what some would call "a disaster" is absolutely possible. Stunning work as always!
INC jeans. I was mesmerized by you constructing this denim desk. I thought it was awesome when you realized the enormity of the project but you kept going. It turned out amazing! You are an amazing artist!
"Picasso was a horrible woodworker" is my new favorite punchline. Great project. It turned out so nice. Love the visual texture.
Glad your leather partner liked it and that his wife liked it too!
Yo honestly, the denim table came out looking real proper. The leather wrapped legs are tight and flawless. Also, using brass hardware/components and recessing them to fit flush was the icing on the cake. For real, that is a one of a kind badass looking table.
The blue denim, brown leather and bright brass is an absolutely beautiful combination. This turned out amazing. Kudos for giving away the desk too, that is super cool
I love all denim. I collect my friends' old torn jeans and use those to create things. I just made my sister a messenger bag for school completely out of light wash, medium wash, and grey dyed denim and she is absolutely in love. I love the look and feel of denim and I love working with it. Denim is such a cool medium to work with.
The table looks fantastic and you did an amazing job on it. Giving it away to the guy was such a great thing to do. He looked really pleased with it.
That’s a Persian culture, we borne to please others 🙏🙏
I've watched every single one of your videos, almost twice over, and this might be my favorite piece yet. I love the contrast of the blue denim and the brown leather. Very unique. Bravo.
Dark denim- I love the continuing despite the crazy cost increase, the integrity of using every layer denim and the brown stitched leather. The use of brass also kept true to the denim. Exceptional design. Good call on giving it to a co-crafter. Wirth fully watching and relatable.
Levi's. This table is fantastic. It has the perfect blend of color, material, and texture. Great job❣️
This is one of my favourite pieces you’ve made. I never would have thought it. Superb job mate.
I don’t have a favorite brand of denim but that Picasso joke I actually laughed out loud at. Also, your relationship with your videographer is awesome. Also, giving the desk where you did was the perfect move and the whole process from the nightmare starting to the beautiful end product was a delight.
Wow! That is unreal. That desk is absolutely stunning … top to bottom.
As someone who works in manufacturing as a cutter I'm very impressed you layered this by yourself. In an industrial setting it takes 2 people and a solid half hour to prep 50 layers for cutting. I work predominantly w/ nylon and foam, but 50 layers is heavy in any textile and thats not even acounting for how much weight epoxy must add, so kudos. :)
This is very similar to fiberglass work! I think you’d have a lot of success with vacuum bags for the clamp up. That would also be a simple way to start making non-flat forms/molds to layup curved shapes. You could also get some biaxial fiberglass and work that into the layers to get thinner parts that have structural strength. I’m excited to see what you do on this new path, there’s certainly a lot of opportunities!
i was thinking carbon fiber but yeah
Its basically the same kinda material, a fiberous weave held to gether with a resin, pretty similar to carbon fiber too. You could probably try and imitate the construction metods used in making composits, but I fear denim may be too thick to paint the resin on and have it properly soak through the fibers.
I also was thinking how windsurfing boards are made. He could check videos with the process.
True. I would lay it out, pour the epoxy then use a fiberglass roller to get the excess out. You could skip the hand wringing and reduce the mess.
Well, i guess technically it is exactly the same as working with fiberglass. The body of the infamous Trabant car from the communistic regime German Democratic Republic was made like this table: cotton cloth soaked in resin laminated into shapes. it does not depend so much on the fiber you are using, the working technics are mostly the same. Technically you coud also cheat and laminate the denim over a lighter weight, but robust core to safe work, time and money on resin and denim and avoid emissions by wasting ressources. maybe it wouldn't feel right, but in the end noone would ever care, even, if you tell them.
I'm a carpenter and avid wood worker. Yet ... (I can't believe I'm saying this) I think this is one of my favorite projects you've done. Turned out amazing. Keep making👍
I’m in love with this table, everything from the blue to the brass finishings and those table legs look amazing ❤️
I love watching you work. You have a great way of explaining yourself while going through your process. Thanks for filming.
Absolutely stunning. Two master craftsmen combining their talents to create a one of a kind piece. You guys need to collab more!!
I'm actually stunned at how incredibly well the texture and finish compliment each other. Wonderful piece.

I love watching your projects, love, love, love the denim desk!!! You are a very talented artist!!!
As a leather worker and lover of denim and brass, this is my favorite project you’ve done. Amazing job!
It’s 2:30 AM and I had to leave a comment on your jeans table. I love watching your videos because you’re honest about any mistakes or screw ups, and I always can’t wait till the end because you always make beautiful stuff. I felt so bad for you when you’re going through the process, definitely worth it though. Thank you.
Levi 501. Absolutely stunning!! So glad you’re offering another option for your workshop 😊
I don't have a favourite brand, but as a sewist, I love love love this concept for a sewing table! Every component just makes absolute sense. I hope you make more of these!
This was so beautiful! I thought a denim desk was going to look tacky but wow! The depth to the colours looks amazing. Even if it isn't "perfect", it is definitely a piece of art.
I dont wood work at all. Minus taking wood class in highschool (which i really loved and had a great time in) This table is really neat. I like it more than the wood/epoxy combo everyone on youtube was doing. Glad youre willing to put time and effort into trying new things. Keep it going! I like jeans... that is as far as i go with denim
I don’t have a favorite brand of denim.
This has given me some cool ideas about making pen blanks for turning from old textiles! I have a small lathe, and lots of scraps of fabric and scrapbook papers, so I’ll be doing some experimenting of my own!
I have watched many of your projects, but this has to be my favourite. You are to be admired for conceiving the project and carrying it through, notwithstanding the trials along the way. And it is truly unique- the brass fittings and leather legs are a perfect match. Perhaps the most wonderful feature was your decision to gift the finished product to the leather craftsman. Well done!
Shaheen stole the show.
my fav 2
That was absolutely beautiful. I’m stunned how well it turned out. And giving it to the upholstery guy was a first class act.
This table is one of the most beautiful, unique pieces I think I have ever seen. I am so glad you gave it to the guy that made the legs. Which, by the way, I loved those leather covered legs, loved them.
I have been making surfboards with both epoxy and polyester resins for 10 years. And when I saw the dilemna of you waking up the next morning seeing all the unsqueezed resin on the floor, it brought me a flashback to all of the moments I had in my shop. Ive had SO many errors, too many to count. Finally landed on making some decent made boards but holy cow, the trials and tribulations of getting there.
You handled the situation so well by joking about it, and I think thats such an underrated skill of the craftsman. How to deal with the major oopsies when they happen.
You're a craftsman and your channel is awesome. Keep up the great work.
P.S. I literally subscribed to you the minute I saw that scene 😅😅
Best laugh I've had all day - the feet sticking 🤣 The table turned out beautifully, and it was so generous to give it away. He did an awesome job on the leather on the legs also.
I was waiting for the bottom of his trainers to come off and stay in the resin!
What I absolutely love about your videos..... you don't hold back at showing failure/mistakes!! So many YT'ers put out these polished videos that make everything they do look as if it were perfect. You are willing to share the ups and DOWNS which makes it so much more real. Thank you!
Where’s the fun in that?? And thanks Jason!
100% agree.
@@BlacktailStudio keeping the mistakes is real, relatable and a fun part of doing a project is the innovation to work around limitations.
If you haven’t had an issue on a project, you haven’t done enough projects.
Very true for me working on my cars. Not having the right specialist tool or a bolt snapping or being seized etc. But I come out more experienced for it and don’t make the same mistakes again.
Great outcome. Levi's guy.
I was worried there in the midst...
I agree, his video's are more real and raw when it comes to mistakes on some of the projects he builds. Its more relatable and more personal when you see him try to deal with the mistakes that pop up. also you get more of a genuine vibe from him all together because he doesnt hold back on some of the problems that may occur.
That table is GORGEOUS!!!! Amazing to watch from beginning to end. Thank You for sharing this with all of us!
Cam, I make denim micarta for custom knife handles and use wax paper between the denim and the mold. Works well as a release agent, plus it sands off easy. Enjoyed the video, my favorite denim is "used" as it all goes to the micarta pile. Keep making.
Levi. Not only was this an amazing project, it was an incredible demonstration of selflessness, commitment, and compassion. I never expected to have tears watching a "How I made..." RUclips Video. I am blown away by your craftsmanship, dedication to the project, and your generosity which was only exceeded by Sheeren's generosity. You Guys are the Best!
Completely agree!!!🤗
Good job
LMFAOOO the fact his actual name is "Levi" makes this video 1000x greater
edit: nvm i just finished the video and im a dumbass 💀
I love charity work myself, but would it have not been more generous for him to just use a slab of oak for the core, since it would never be seen again after a layer of denim went over it, and then he could have donated that $2000 dollars or so worth of epoxy and denim to like 100 other craftsmen to make cool projects with? Imagine how depleted our natural resources would be if everyone were as wasteful as this when it came to hobby crafts. Geesh wow, still smh in agony over this. What's next, making an engine that uses solid gold pistons to be put inside a Honda Civic?? Oh nvm, I'm afraid if he reads that suggestion he may actually try to do it🤦♂
@@Rick-the-Swift I was also wondering why he bought sooo much denim that essentially could’ve been literally any material since it would never be seen haha. Then again, it’s precisely because the entire table is literally denim that the project seems even more epic
COOLEST PIECE OF FURNITURE I'VE EVER SEEN!!! It's gorgeous! And imagine the conversations he'll have explaining that it's ACTUALLY 50 layers of material!! ❤
Man it's came out absolutely gorgeous. If I had a table like that, I would just look at it like a beautiful art peace. To me it's the most beautiful thing you done.
Hey Cam, I’ve been watching your videos for a while. I am an amateur woodworker, although I’ve been in construction my whole life (I’m 67) I make functional furniture, not gorgeous pieces like you do. If I need a table for a specific sized place, I make it.
Anyway, I love watching your videos, and pick up what I can from them, and I really appreciate your wit.

I know... I was thinking that I don't use denim, so apart from Levi's, I don't know any others, lol.
Loved that picasso joke almost as much as i loved to see his genuine reaction and his immediate thought to his wife directly after that. Seems to me you gave away a table, but you earned a friend for life there. Power of kindness at its best.
(Also, that end result was sooo neat can't wait to see what you do next with that micarta, that finish is stunning !)
No way!!! Wow!! Such a piece of artwork
Which also doubles as a table, especially love the layered look at the sides. Top job
Every time I watch one of you videos I’ll say, this is the best one so far, and when I watch the next video that will be the best one. What I’m trying to say is that I can watch your videos and I love every minute of them. Great projects, lots of knowledge. You are a true artist
Hey BlackTail! What about laying all the sheets into a vacuum sealed bag? Almost like how they work carbon fiber. Loved the finished product :)
with the amount of epoxy that was leaking out of that thing, im not sure youd be able to get the pressure needed to hold it without sucking liquid epoxy into your vacuum
100%. Used to build fiber glass/carbon fiber boats. Vacuum infusion would be the way to go. It’s a bit of a finicky process, but probably worth the setup. Alternatively, lots of good tutorials on hand laminating sheets. This is essentially fiber glass layup work. We talked quite a bit about making tables out of regular fabric in the shop, considering we had all the gear to do it.
ya, I've been experimenting with that a bit since this project actually. Just cant have as much epoxy squeeze out as this piece or it'll get sucked into the vac.
We used to vacuum infuse carbon fiber sheet on a sliding glass door - Apply mold release to the door, lay down your fabric (worked up to 1”+ thick), peel ply, resin/vacuum lines, vacuum bag. Suck it down, introduce the resin, let it cure. No mess, and using glass ensured the surface finish was excellent.
You can just get a bag to put in your vacuum then buy a tube you can just throw away after
Never thought anybody would build a denim table, Great job it turned out fantastic! You never fail to amaze us in every video

This blew my mind, So enjoyed watching your process and laughed at your humor along the way. Beautiful job.
Awesome vid! Reminded me of shaping surfboards. 1 layer of fiberglass on bottom and 2 in top. Pour over the epoxy and squeegee out. Then you “hot coat” over both sides to seal everything up and get a nice finish. Thanks for sharing the video, really cool!!!
Elegant, yet casual, yet unique, yet familiar. Gorgeous piece of art, leather stitched legs compliment the denim like a pair of jeans do cowboy boots. I can see this becoming a future line of furniture. One of my favorite builds, well done!
To say I am horrible at working with wood is an understatement. I have never see epoxy in real life. However, I am drawn to your movies from a creative point of view. Not only is it satisfactory to see someone create something but what people can learn from your experience is astounding. And what a great person to share all this. What an amazing channel.....
reading the first sentence I thought this was a reply from that guy he insulted in the video, what was his name, of right, picasso. Picasso does not have a youtube channel. so not you. my bad.
Your creativity blew my mind away! If I had lived in USA I certainly would order a desk like that. Genius! Love the twist at the end, that nice gentleman wasn't expecting your way of thanking him for his collaboration. Great ending! All the best for both of your businesses!
Levi's are my denim of choice....Man, this is a great looking project! I'm sure you inspired a lot of folks to try something new with this one!
This isn't just a table it is pure art 10/10
