Shaq: I'm ready for the solo
Morgan Freeman: he wasn't ready for the solo
Michel my favourite internet comment I have ever read. Thank you
That was the greatest fucking thing I have ever read especially since there is no choice but to read it in both of their voices
Why was I laughing so hard at this comment I had to pause the video!?!?!?!?
Epic comment xD

True, on the most technical of levels.

True dat.
Metallica still changing lives in 2018!!! Legendary!!!
The hallmark effect of a truly great band.
Love metal bands of old, back when track had meaning and length. Love what shaq is doing with this channel.
It's timeless my dude. Demonic and divine at the same time.
Yup
William Livesay i’m 14 and i literally adore this band lmao
"I'm ready for the solo!"
No....no you're not.
I think all of us remember the first time we heard the solo and our minds got blown the fuck up.
First time I've heard this solo I felt like my soul is out of my body I know sounds little bit weird but a Metalhead knows what I mean :) 🤘🤘
shiiiit I had to like this and unlike it just so I could like it again
addicted to solos, the irony
You are never truly ready for the solo. It's like the hand if what ever God you worship reached down, taped you on the shoulder and gave you this wonderful gift named Kurt Hammett
Shaq: "I can't bop my head fast enough!" 🤣😂❤
I know right. I believe they call that 'head banging'
There's a reason I have neck problems, and I completely blame them on being a metalhead in my teens and 20s. Headbanging's tough on the body.
0 regrets. 😁
It be like that sometimes
I guess that’s why Shaq is not wearing “ the wig”. Lol
Welcome to 220 bpm
I 'm 3 minutes in and I am so tickled that you organically discovered what headbanging is. "I can't even bop my head fast enough." LOL
Right, love this guy
He also discovered moshing a little later in the video too. He’s a metalhead at heart
Best band of all time RIP cliff
chrispy im just me RIP Cliff 😔
The pace of the song is to illustrate the cycle of addiction. The first part is the need and the control it has on the person. Fast and persistent . The middle melodic section illustrates the mood after a fix. Much more calm, relaxed and beautiful . Then it returns back into the demanding need and control the addiction requires. Until it controls and ultimately kills you. The way the music illustrates the cycle is actually quite brilliant. Just my interpretation.
This. All of this. You sir(?) are a gentleman and a scholar. Take my upvote
Spot on, my friend.
What do the fast, slow, fast, parts in all their other songs mean?
chop your breakfast on a mirror lol oh yeah the 80's
From a musical standpoint having a slow part in the music makes the fast parts feel faster. And gives the listener a bit of rest. An entire album going full speed for 90 minutes would get incredibly boring to listen too.
you, hit the nail on the head. the smooth breakdown was when the person hit the drug, but eventually, the sound got faster and more aggressive , because now they want the next hit, the lay back gets shorter and shorter, the master gets more demanding.
When I first heard the song I wasn’t so smart to catch that, but as I listened closer I would get chills all throughout the song because it hit so deep. Truly musical geniuses
Amazing analogy!! I’m apprehensive on calling myself a Metallica fan because even though I had heard of this song I never “heard” this song until today. Way deeper than I knew.
Yeah, I feel it that way too. As someone who spent 14 years injecting meth, that smooth part of the song definitely feels like that high the moment you do an issue and then it starts getting harder and more abrasive as you would be going into those next phases of it. 4 years clean for me but I can definitely make that connection.
shepherd congrats on the 4 years.
I didn’t even realize that but it makes so much sense. I’m glad you pointed this out
The slower part of the song is supposed to be a reference to the puppet giving into it's master (the drugs). That is why it is slower and more euphoric compared to the rest of the song, and then slowly wears off and builds back up and the first verse to follow it is the puppet accusing the drugs for ruining his life doing nothing but lying and ruining his life. The heavier parts of the song, to me at least, are a reference to being sober and feeling the urge to give into the drugs. It's brilliant and at the same time extremely sad.
Most important comment ^^
Yes, great comment!!!
good call Patrick
Yup it is.
twbl hear you scream cuz Master
its a 3- part symphony,
1. the search for the high (the beginning)
2. the actual relief from the high (the middle melodic breakdown)
3. the comedown from the high (the ending)
nah this is wrong lol
the first part is the drugs 'talking' to him (withdrawals)
the second part starts with him high and calm and then him telling the drugs it was all lies
and the last part is the drugs talking back about how hes screwed and theyre killing him (withdrawals again)
@@aurebesh4969nah you’re both wrong lmao

8:30 metallica is one of the rare metal bands that are true storytellers just from the composition of the music, and often infuse large interludes that convey so much. It's one of the reason I love them. not just nothing but 2 or 3 minute songs. Metallica does some truly epic tracks.
Megadeth is also really good at taking you on a journey with every song.

I grew up on metal and never really looked up lyrics just enjoyed the musicianship and energy. Now as I get older and get back into it there’s so many layers to why it’s good it’s incredible.
That moment when you realize that the song mellowing out is symbolic of the high a drug gives you, and when it gets heavier, it's coming off the high and beginning withdrawals.
Deep and interesting way to look at.. I think its just going low so they can build it up again just for the riff.. Most bands just riff and then write lyrics on top afterwards to make it a song. They write the lyrics to fit into the melody not the melody to fit into the lyrics.. I don't think they compose the melodies with a meaning behind it but rather they compose it for how the music feels to them.. They feel the music rather than think it. But each to their own mate your take on the song is yours and no one can say you are wrong or right its your own musical journey lol
Wow!! I never thought of it that way. Thanks for the heads up on that. 🤯

TOTALLY AGREE on this one.. remember folks metal (especially progressive metal) is simply orchestra with electric instruments.. so basically you would follow a story and a mood.. ever wonder why most (or some?) metal musicians have great knowledge and music background of the classics?
when I heard the "metal has to be my top 2 right now" i felt warm inside
These metal reactions are great. Watching the awe and confusion on your face is hilarious but I see the appreciation. Keep it up

KoNarTisT206 well said my guy
Totally agree. If only the majority of Metalheads were as open-minded as well. Then again, plenty of channels are starting to appear where Metalheads react to Hip-Hop, so change is definitely coming. Music is a universal language, and it comes in all shapes. I listen to almost everything, be it Metal, Rock, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Funk, RnB, Blues, Pop, Classical or even Video Game music (which has come a long way). I just can't imagine my life without music.

The calming middle section of the song is when the person in the song uses drugs. The song turns into a very beautiful melody but then the withdrawals come and the second half of the song is more intense than the first half.
Metallica - Fade To Black
Megadeth - Holy Wars
Pantera - Cemetery Gates
Slayer - Angel of Death
Alice in Chains - Rooster
Queensryche- Eyes of a Stranger
Dio- Rainbiw in the Dark
Judas Priest- just pick one
I don't think he's ready for Slayer just yet.
Someone out here gets it. Gotta put him on the stuff that's great listening for all people and genres before you get to the aquired taste music. I seen Cemetary Gates referenced up there. Good song but there are better. Domination, 5 Minutes Alone, Floods, etc to name a few. He's not ready for Judas Priest and Queensryche yet. I consider that aquired taste too.

Hey Hey Hey Hey
Nooooooo!!!! I just got it. That part where it gets real mellow is the way it feels when the drug kicks in. It goes with the song!!!!! Like the beginning part is your sober life. You notice everything and it seems overwhelming because it all comes at you at once. Then you take the drug and it mellows out. Then at the end when it picks up again, that’s when the high wears off and you hit sobriety again. Bruh, how do you have bars laced into the phonetic structure of your song? #ThatsTough #JaRuleWhereYouAt

"I guarantee I can listen to other metal bands and I wont get that same feeling."
My friend you've only scratched the surface of metal. Once you go down the road and invest time into really doing your research around metal bands, different styles and different generations you'll quickly realize there's no other genre you can compare it to.
If you had to pick a genre that was closest to metal/rock, it would he classical. They follow alot of the same patterns.
Yeah 100%! My old guitar teacher played a classical piece to me on his nylon string guitar, then whipped out his electric and played the exact same song, sounded like a proper metal song! Definitely made me appreciate and listen to classical more!

He's very underrated!
He’s also responsible for arguably some of the best guitar tones in all metal. However, this is becoming more of a biased perspective as the compliments form. Just imo, Metallica had the best guitar tones ever. Clean, distorted... you name it
YES HE IS
I don't think he's underrated as much as it just doesn't even need to be mentioned
The song tells a story and the music a huge part. At 7:30 the tune changes to really mellow because you've just shot up and this is the high, but eventually it wears off. At 9:33 the high is gone and the withdrawal kicks in. The music gets fast and heavy (your desperate search for a new fix). He even says "FIX ME!".

Ashley Dixon I'm sorry to be so forward, but may I ask what this addiction was?
Animated Dream cocaine , crack, benzodiazepines, robo tripping, dry/pcp, opiates and heroine ...... it all started with a few Benadryl to help me sleep. I still have some of those that continue to plague me but I haves put most of it down and try to stick to just the green stuff and keeping my benzo use to a little as I can without feeling like I’m gonna shake out of my body and have a heart attack. Getting pregnant with my son I did quit everything for the entire pregnancy but I relapsed about a week after. Always working towards lowering my tolerance to the drugs so I can get off of them. Rehab was an awful experience (the one I could get into ) thanks for not judging me 🤘🏼
@@ashleydixon5050 I've heard that psychadelics can help you with addiction. You have to decide for yourself if it's worth it though. You could do some reading on psychadelics and addiction on Google. Lots of people even travel to south america to join in on Ayahuasca ceremonies usually changing their lives for the better.
TheWildHealer I’ve actually looked into that but I’m so afraid of flying. I’ve only left nc to go to GA to see my pro in the fed prison there. I’ve heard wonderful things about what treatments they offer down there though

The purpose of soft instrumentals next to fast metal is to make the metal seam even heavier. That's been Metallica's strategy since the beginning.
Contrast.
I love it. Especially for this song because I always hear the softer solo as the “high” then when the music builds it’s the high wearing down and the laughters is just hell because it’s a never ending cycle of pain and misery. I love this song so much!

7:04 - "I'm ready for the solo!"
My dude, no offense...but you are NOT ready for the solo. ;)
I always thought the beginning was the chase for the drugs, then the mellow part was when you get your fix, then it rages back when it wears off.
You are correct.
The end is the part when the addict is lashing out at the world yelling for someone to FIX ME
Mate that is deep I never thought of it that way this will carry on with me forever I just wanted you to know that I won't forget those words
@@SantomPh thats not the end though, 'fix me', and then it goes back to the start where he's chasing for drugs again.
That’s tough
The beginning of the song is like someone needing their fix then the slow part is like when they get their fix and have that chill feeling they were needing . And the end is like when they get amped up and then come back down and get angry and need another fix. Musical storytellers taking you through all the emotions of the story they are telling. I think he understood the concept of drug use, but I think he's talking about that rush and transition the song was giving him.
And Rob is saying that soothing transition represents you being high, until drums and guitars starts kicking back in as it gives you the feeling dream is over, the urge of need is crawling back again.

Listening to master of puppets makes you realise how stupid all these so called rappers glorifying drugs are. I’m so fed up of hearing how cool it is to pop a xan or do a molly.
By the way, I think you were a metal head all along, just didn’t realise it.
Aran very true. Especially for those of us who have been through addiction and are trying to stay clean. Music has helped me get to where I’m at but a lot of today’s artist like glorifying drugs and alcohol which are painful reminders to some.
Drug use is Fun,that's why people do it, it inevitably turns to shit, like most things, long live Rock Stars
BE THE FIRST TO REACT TO THE MEMORY REMAINS FROM METALLICA SEEN A BUNCH OF METALLICA REACTS BUT NOT THIS SONG IT IS ONE THE GROUPS BIGGEST SONGS
I agree with you through and through bro. The glorification of drugs and alcohol in some of today’s music is just drawing in more, younger people to a hell that they can’t even imagine. I tried meth when I was 13, where I’m from it’s just something you did, just a way of life. Everybody did it so fuck it why not? 6 months later I shot the shit for the first time. 11 years later I hope I’ve finally kicked it. I had to leave everything and everyone I love behind and move 2 hours away just so I can have a better chance for a better life. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. But nobody wants to listen to the real story. They’re too wrapped up in all the fun that they think they’re having and that listening to these real, hard truth songs about it, they’re just wasting good gettin high time.
The slow down part is suppose to be where the puppet is high
Damn, never thought about it like that.
The whole solo is a representation of being high. Starts of smooth, then the high starts to die down, then the need for more and how crazy the brain gets without it.
You're totally right! and the voices slowing down when he start to feel the drug entering his system

I was born in '94 and grew up on Metallica and finally got to see them on their Hardwired tour, welcome to the family!!
I always felt that the music solo was the simulation of the use. You get your high, your happiness..slowly building into a mix of chaos, you peak and then the fall. The struggle for "the next hit". Your reaction to this was phenomenal, even 4 years after releasing this.

I played drums back in the day....could not hang playing Cult of Personality. Dope song. Took me forever to learn it.
@@wheelwatcher05 The drums sound like it would be hard af playing. This song and group stood out with all the best bands during the eighties. First time I heard it, my reaction was alot like Shaq's

“They’re changing it up on us.” Dude, Metallica were the masters of that. Riff changes, tempo changes, they always kept you on your toes.
Aye, that’s one thing that Rock can do that hip hop can’t. If you rap to a beat and change the beat halfway through, we call it a new song. Period. But Metallica did this same thing with One. It starts off mellow with the guitar strings and then BAM!!!!!!! They doing something similar with this track. And to be honest? I’m fuckin wit it.
no one can resist yelling 'master' when reacting to this :D
