It was beautiful to me and almost poetic being in the moment where you realize how this music is not noise but art. I’ve been a Metallica fan since the 90’s and everyone around me used to make fun of me or having prejudice just because of the music or clothes I wear. I’m sure black people can relate to this sentiment. At the end, we all just want to be validated, we want to be heard and loved. We all want the same things in life. We’re all here fighting to find happiness and to find meaning. As I watched you react to Metallica, a glimpse of hope rooted in my heart, for karma and it’s beauty has its way around everyone’s life. Thank you for this video. Sending my best wishes from Mexico 🇲🇽 P.S. You should hear the cover of this song from Apocalíptica (a cello quartet, they even open for Metallica - they’re that good -)
Lmao I felt like that for the opposite reason. I only listened to rock (mostly metal) in HS and when my friends who listened to hip hop would ask me if they could listen i'd be like nah you wouldnt get it then i got into hip hop after i graduated and i was like shit... should have let them listen!

How they use the guitar and drums in the second half of the song to simulate gunfire is pure genius. A lot of people miss that simile. These guys are fucking GOATs.
I know this is late. But as a white guy watching a black guy listen to rock and love it. It makes my happy. Crazy how music can unite us. Your definitely way more interesting than anyone else doing this. I will never watch anyone else do such a thing unless they are on par with you
This is a song based on the book, "Johnny Got His Gun" and the footage is from the movie of the same title. It's about a soldier who's horrifically injured in combat. He loses his arms, legs, eyes, and bottom jaw. The doctors "save" him, and as he lays in bed, he slowly slips into madness. Imagine being trapped in your body, but unable to speak, move, or communicate.
Thousands of years ago when me and my fellow travelers were crossing the Bering strait land bridge, this song is what kept us going, we would gather each morning, noon and night and play it for all. It truly kept us going, pure classic

You are about to be opened to a whole new world of music my man. The riffs and transitions that Metallica uses will blow your mind. And just wait until you hit up other metal groups and rock groups. Other great Metallica songs are Master of Puppers, Fade to Black, Orion, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), and the Call of Ktulu. You should react to all of them! Love how the head-banging came as natural to you as it does to everyone. You can't help it. haha

"there is always deep meaning behing good music" you, sir, got it fucking right! this video is really cool! obviously you are not a metalhead but gave it a chance. it's always good to expand your musical horizon! and after all we all got to respect good music, even we don't like it. i mean, you would't hang a painting of a weird looking woman in your hallway but da vinci is still one of the greatest artists. you don't have to like the piece of art but appreciate the passion, work and time the artist invested to make his piece.

The movie is called Johnny Got His Gun. It's about a young man that goes off to war and gets nearly killed by a landmine. The blast blows off his arms, legs and face. The flash blinds him and the sound makes him deaf. He's alive but has no way to communicate with the people taking care of him. The doctors assume that he's basically a piece of meat but his mind is absolutely alive. He wants to die to end his misery, but the doctors insist on keeping him alive.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED WATCHING THIS REACTION VIDEO!!! I listened to Metallica along with other metal bands since I was little which is not anticipated or expected of a black person but I didn’t care. I liked what I liked. But to watch u listen and react to metal for the first time and particularly “One” by Metallica, which is hands down one of their best songs ever, made me feel what u were feeling all over again! It’s a good choice of song because it starts out somewhat gentle and calm yet undeniably metal and then progresses into this fast-paced, edge-of-ur-seat banger that gets u so f***ing amped u think u might explode. All the while, the lyrics depict the mindset of a severely wounded soldier who, due to his injuries and his treatment by medical staff, is mentally spiralling into insanity and begging God to help him and wake him out of the hellish reality he is hoping is a bad dream. OMG...so proud of u for taking the chance and trying something different. U r correct...in order to be great u have to expand ur horizons, step outside the box and be enlightened. There’s a whole world out there to experience and most of us don’t even get to experience 5% of it. Good for u brah! Also it’s awesome to see so many positive comments of support, advice, recommendations and love for this guy doing this video...I LOVE IT!! Oh and the guitar and drums in this tune....SICK!!! EPICALLY SICK!!! Agree with u 1000% there too!!! Keep up the good work and experience all that u can. 👍

When i watch reactions like this i feel like "He finally gets it" ! Must be kind of when religious people get others to join their religion in a way. Metal is my religion and every metal head is my brother no matter what sex, race, size, hair color or if you have fourteen dicks.
“I feel like I lost my metal virginity!!!” Hahahahaha. Amazing.
Mark Krow i gotta go call my mama.
Not only did he lose it, he lost it to a BIG one!
He totally did. We all watched him pop his metal cherry! 🍒
“I GOTTA GET ME A GUITAR”! Lmao, priceless.
lmao he grabs the tiger lol
Lmfao, “I gotta go crazy”!
That was my exact thought when I heard this song as a 10 year old in 1995.
not much quite like that first experience plugging in and cranking up with some distortion.. skills or no skills.. it's powerful!
Getting a guitar is the easy part lol
Just a PSA.. do not drive on the highway listening to Metallica. Your gas pedal hits the floor every time! Crazy how that works
Hah. Many tickets in my teens. Think I've got all their albums. And many other pedal thru the floor bands
Don’t listen to instrumental prog Metal while driving that stuff will make you fly off the road
Every time
Its about war...and the man with no arms no legs no voice no vision...he's trapped within himself...that's tough
You picked a great song for your first one.
michael l ahhhhhhhhh I see what u did there u sly bastard gg boi gg
Lyrically anyway yeah. Puppets is all about drugs and alcohol addiction and thats pretty dope too
michael l I agree.
@@famousfraank When you say Master of puppets for me it is politicians.
Veej Saurty me too
I just started watching your videos and I gotta say, you've had the BEST reactions out of everyone I've seen so far. I don't get to WATCH your reactions due to me being a truck driver but I do hear them. Just hearing the wonder in your voice over any type of music is awesome. I couldn't live without it. Thank you for the honestly you show.
I just lost my metal virginity!"
That's a pretty metal sentence for being new to the brotherhood haha. Welcome my friend :)
Thats tough!
I lost it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙌🏻
This channel has just gotten a whole lot better.
Hope he does more Metal.
Hoping for him to do a Tool song
You’ve been exposed to another form of art. Welcome aboard brother
being a metal head, i always come back to this video to get a boost of joy. what i would do to have another “first time” at hearing this song. fucjing love your reactions man. ❤️
Same, Metalhead Shaq fucking rules, best reactions on YT.
What I like about metal is that the instruments got bars too
This comment ❤️
Ditto.
Yes for sure!!! Them bad ass guitar solos are all bars for real
This is one of the most underrated comments I've seen in a long time😂😂😂👏🏾👏🏾
yup those bars are called licks 👍or fills 🙂👍
Sending my best wishes from Mexico 🇲🇽
P.S. You should hear the cover of this song from Apocalíptica (a cello quartet, they even open for Metallica - they’re that good -)
Best comment ever
I agree Apocalyptica made a great ONE cover, harvester of sorrow by Apocalyptica is awesome too ^^
I got to call all my friends from high school and apologize , lol
Lmao I felt like that for the opposite reason. I only listened to rock (mostly metal) in HS and when my friends who listened to hip hop would ask me if they could listen i'd be like nah you wouldnt get it
then i got into hip hop after i graduated and i was like shit... should have let them listen!
Golgothian for real 😂 I love rap now days. But my original love is hard rock
Just listened to your pre-fight talk. You could not be more on point. I wish I could sub twice and you're the best reactor to me by far.
This song is sad, and horrifying at the same time.
And amazing
and amazing all at once. "Lest the ages Forget"

yeah...
spiderbaby420 "One" is pretty much the only song off Justice where you can actually hear the bass
@@snworbatory386 sorry I didn't hear bass on anything on Justice. That's also why Jason was upset. Now you probably heard bass live when they toured for Justice
@GamesAndSuch Dave had not part in this song
There is something I really enjoy about watching people discover things I personally enjoy. I experience that discovery all over again inside.
And it's just as good all these years later. Maybe better.

"Its actually relaxing!" THANK YOU
Haha you know.

What I would give to hear this song again for the first time. It’s brain melting. The best thing ever.
The songs about a solider that step on a landmine. Lost his arms, legs, sight an hearing an the doctors kept him alive. An all he can do is lay there not knowing day or night or whats happening. Its a really deep song
Paul Jones its a great sing but everytime i listen to this i cant get over that sick ass guitar solo
Yup💯💜💚
Johnny Got His Gun!!!!Movie
Not a landmine. Artillery round exploded in the trench.
In the song he literally sings landmine has taken my sight taken my speech taken my hearing and so on
and it was at 13:25 of this video a new metalhead was born. Loved the reactions, ty for the smile, and being genuine.
love the name...fellow percussionist here...
@@columbusbankerbob6123 Pretty sure it's a clever name stemming off the word repercussion.
@@SvelrInc I'm sure you are right. I didn't read that when I wrote the comment. :(
@@SvelrInc I was thinking Reaper + Percussion = Reapercussion. Hmmm, might be a good name for a new drum company! :)

melted is a good word
master of puppets!! great song
The simultaneous head band hooked me as a kid.

Shaq hitting me with "I think i just lost my metal virginity" and "Now i realize its not noise", those are words that make us metal heads happy, seeing others being able to go from one specific genre to being able to jam along with us!
I can't believe I'm saying this but I think I actually really enjoyed watching a reaction channel for once.

How they use the guitar and drums in the second half of the song to simulate gunfire is pure genius. A lot of people miss that simile. These guys are fucking GOATs.
@@zee_bee_23 the drums in this song are my favorite part.
This song and video always make me emotional. When he was bobbing his head, he was using Morse Code to say "help" and "kill me".

I know this is late. But as a white guy watching a black guy listen to rock and love it. It makes my happy. Crazy how music can unite us. Your definitely way more interesting than anyone else doing this. I will never watch anyone else do such a thing unless they are on par with you
YOOO Hip hop meets metal... Rage against the machine - killing in the name of.
He'll love it!
Yes!
I'd also recommend bulls on parade and people of the sun.
Everyone always says Killing in the name of and it's one of their most lyrically bland songs. Know your enemy
Kill a Man!
Or he could go back to the beginning of the Rap/Metal and maybe listen to Anthrax w Public Enemy or maybe Mordred.
Dude! This is showing flexibility! Hats off to ya!

"He's bopping his head!" Just to let you know, he's not bopping to the music. He's nodding the words "kill me" in Morse code
As many years that I have heard this song and seen the video.... I never knew that! Very interesting! Learn something new every day
Yeah the officer says that he is repeating "kill me" over and over again in morse code

Thousands of years ago when me and my fellow travelers were crossing the Bering strait land bridge, this song is what kept us going, we would gather each morning, noon and night and play it for all. It truly kept us going, pure classic
I grew up listening to Rap, Metal, Rock, Country, Oldies, R&B etc. I loved it all too. I love music in general and I love seeing people listen to different music and react and sometimes you see the lightbulb come on.👍🏼😁
8:39 When you realize what the song is actually about, yea it's epic
I love this song and never knew what it was about
Metallica has some of the best guitar instrumentals ever
You are about to be opened to a whole new world of music my man. The riffs and transitions that Metallica uses will blow your mind. And just wait until you hit up other metal groups and rock groups. Other great Metallica songs are Master of Puppers, Fade to Black, Orion, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), and the Call of Ktulu. You should react to all of them! Love how the head-banging came as natural to you as it does to everyone. You can't help it. haha
Call of Cthulhu is a masterpiece
Yeah, this list of songs is legit. Please don’t do Nothing Else Matters...or anything from the Black Album. Basic.
Agree completely. The Black album was good for what it was, but in the overall scheme of great Metallica songs, they are all pretty basic.

TheSpydyr Of Wolf and Man is the shit tho

Shaq.... i've been watching you for a while now and i've gone back and watched many of your videos from the past. I have to say this....I give you mad props for expanding yourself and your mind and your world and in turn, you're opening people up to new worlds where their other wise wouldn't have been exposed to, nor done it on their own. You are bridging the gap between blacks and whites, rap and rock and country, and it's BEAUTIFUL!!!! Great to know that you’ve given heavy metal a shot. And of all the songs to listen to for your first full-length song, you’ve chosen one of the best songs that was ever written in the history of music.
Godspeed, brother! Rock on! 🤟🏻
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it but you said about him bobbing his head. He was signaling in morse code "Kill me" over and over.
@surfitlive sameeeee😂

"there is always deep meaning behing good music"
you, sir, got it fucking right!
this video is really cool! obviously you are not a metalhead but gave it a chance. it's always good to expand your musical horizon! and after all we all got to respect good music, even we don't like it. i mean, you would't hang a painting of a weird looking woman in your hallway but da vinci is still one of the greatest artists. you don't have to like the piece of art but appreciate the passion, work and time the artist invested to make his piece.
Stefan Ide I think the misconception with some so called “metalhead” and “hiphop heads” is that both parties don’t like the other music but it’s mostly false
This song gives me chills particularly the beginning solo.. been my song since I was 3 years old😀 love Metallica
That riff around 10:30 is Morse code saying “kill me” over and over as he sings. Truly sad.

Lol this man’s reaction is hilarious, but you could tell he’s having so much fun listening to it. Good to know metal’s getting more recognition
"Johnny get your gun."
@@samgio0217 davidfair is correct. Johnny get your gun is a 1919 silent comedy. johnny got his gun is the war book and movie.
Also he is shaking his head to Morse code telling them to kill him.
It was a book against war
Interesting that it was written as an antiwar novel after the world war 1, but didn't get popular until vietnam.
