Rode blue steel to westridge in the rain for our last run sunday before the park closed due to the thunder storm, absolutely epic conditions. One of the best days on my bike for sure.
I was in Bear Bear this pass weekend. I was able to ride "blue steel" on Friday. It was my first time at a bike park. It was AWESOME! Can't wait to go back
I only been to snow summit one time a few weeks ago. Let me tell you I had a time of my life. I just want to say I love your videos and I'm a big fan. I didn't get to ride blue steel. But I will be going back in a few weeks. And thanks to your videos I know what to expect. Thanks...
@@mtb_alan hopefully soon I can get out to Sky Park. That place looks like a blast. I've wanted to go after seeing one of the videos you posted. Just gotta heal and then ill be back out there. Vegas Trails sucks haha
They are within the San Bernadino National Forest and the forest shut down due to the high levels of fire danger. Too risky to end up with grip of people stuck up in Big Bear surrounded by forest fires.
I was there Friday and they opened the Blue steel.. We were the first group to try the trail and it was great. I hope they extend it.. awesome video by the way.
Finally open! They put this trail on the map (as "under construction") towards the end of last season, so I've been patiently waiting almost a year for this! This trail is a godsend for us mere mortals who need to warm up and practice on something smaller before going full send on Westridge - _especially_ since they've omitted Average Joe's this year. Thx for the video and commentary, Alan!
I love this video, especially when the music starts playing at the beginning of party wave. I'm more of an intermediate rider, just did turtle and green on my first bike park trip in august and then some of the whistler blues last month. Hoping to try Blue steel and maybe Miracle on closing weekend. Probably will stay off PWW until next season.
Hey thanks for guiding the newer riders and keep them on the right trails till they get there wings and can fly on party wave. Your a gentleman and a scholar
Hey Alan, it was nice riding with you last weekend at summit. We ran blue steel and then you and your boy led me down partywave for my first time. Nice videos my man
Glad to see more trails being built there. I know Snow Summit doesn't have a lot of trails, but the ones they have are supposed to be really good. Also good to see a progression jump line put in. Trestle, the bike park I usually go to in Winter Park, CO has it's flagship black jump line Rainmaker, but has 2 blue trails called Spicy Chicken and Paper Boy, and a Blue/Black called Happier camper that are designed to let you progress your jumping skill for Rainmaker. And they are set up so you can lap them over and over again from the same lift without having to go all the way down the mountain.
Another keeper Alan. After some cross country in the morning on Thursday (8/20), then Turtle Trail couple times , I was going For Blue Steel but the whole lightning waiting game happened again for a long while until I decided to pack it in. Next time. Thanks for the great content as always...yes, I dug it!
Hey Alan, That looks like a great trail for guys like me who are just learning to corner and clear small jumps. Sorry the rain cut things short. Btw, you might no remember me but I met you at Skypark on a Saturday and followed you and your crew down upper Arrow. I'm the old grey haired guy with a grey helmet on the blue giant E-bike. It was fun meeting you in person.
Looks like a good one for progression laps for those of us still working on getting into the air. And I think you are right, a few wooden features in the long empty stretch would be good. If you have any pull up there, as for a drop progression structure.
Dude, i went up yesterday and the same thing happened. 80 degrees in the morning then thunder, lightning, pouring rain and then finally hail but i had the best ever run of my life with the rain.
MTB ALAN It was my first time at a bike park and 3rd time riding a mountain bike. Went on Blue Steel and was surprisingly able to do the jumps but towards the end I guess it turns into party wave and One of the jumps goes into a turn and I freaked out and went OTB. Lol
Oh damn. Yeah...I suggest most beginner and intermediate riders skip Muscle Beach (the series of five jumps) and use the split to the right and then go under the bridge to Turtle. Hope you're all right!
MTB ALAN yeah I will definitely do that next time! And yeah I’m good. Walked off with a few scuffs and a sore wrist. I’ll be uploading a video of it in a bit. Check it out so you can see where I ate it lol.

Dude love the channel!!! Have you done a video of the gear you wear when park riding? I had a big crash 3 months ago and have been picking up gear for when I can get back on and ride! Much thanks
Dang...hope you're recovering all right. I haven't done a vid on my gear yet. Good idea. But in the meantime, you can see what gear I use here: kit.co/MTBALAN/
Yeah man over shot a 20 foot tabletop and when the suspension bottomed out the bracket that holds the derailer cable broke and the cable pulled and grabbed the rear tire, locking it up. Still a sore neck had some mild concussion symptoms.
Can't wait to hit this one...I wonder what the risk is for the spot it merges with Party?? Can both parties easily see each other. Sometimes hard to look sideways (to check) when riding fast, especially if it's choppy. What are your thoughts? I haven't seen it in person yet so I could be completely off base. I suppose it's no more risky than the alternate lines on Party Wave and where they come back together. Looks fun and "it's something new, possibly something I've never seen before." 🤣
😁 You’re gonna dig it. The merge is a bit tense. People still figuring it out. I wanted to show the proper route around Muscle Beach but we got stuck at the bottom with the lightning hold.

Was that Saturday with the rain? We made the last lift up before they shut it down for good and just stayed up top for a few hours sessioning parts of blue steel and party wave until it got real bad! Dope video can’t wait to go back for more blue steel!
Good question. They're smaller than the middle set of jumps after the bridge drop on Neverland. They're a little bigger than the ones on Upper Arrow. But overall, they're a lot easier to hit because the trail is so wide and the sight-lines are really clear. Hope that helps.
I almost went to Snow Summit this past weekend to escape the heat in East County San Diego. I ended up in Mammoth instead riding some trails outside of the bike park. Man that elevation difference between San Diego and Mammoth showed me quickly how out of shape I am.

I think I have a very unpopular opinion. The lips were not molded correctly and seemed to kick my rear wheel over or send me too far on every table. I love Party wave because the lips are so perfect and it flows so well, but Blue Steel requires continuous attention to speed and technique when taking off the lips. Rad vid!
I didn't find the lips to be kicky. I did find that they work better at slower speeds though. Like if I came out of a turn smoothly, I was generally at the right speed for the upcoming jump...but if I put in a buncha pedals, I would overjump.
Yo awesome vid Alan. I saw you up there this past weekend when we got rained out. Bummer. But anyhow man I’m just starting my channel out and trying to grow into something like yours hopefully one day. 😂 but yeah man if you could check out my vids and subscribe that would be totally awesome but not only that could you also critique my content and maybe give me some pointers on what you think I can do to make it better?? Yo awesome vid Alan. I saw you up there this past weekend when we got rained out. Bummer. But anyhow man I’m just starting my channel out and trying to grow into something like yours hopefully one day. 😂 but yeah man if you could check out my vids and subscribe that would be totally awesome but not only that could you also critique my content and maybe give me some pointers on what you think I can do to make it better?? That a would be huge for me bro.
Thanks! My advice is simple: create.
