Dang, great editing in this one! Your videos have come a long way this year. Having just ridden Mammoth for the first time myself a few weeks ago, this vid really captured the good vibes.
gotta get some shock therapy and dc 10 . 32 years riding and living around this mountain gives a real meaning to 4 seasons . thanks for the positivity on our scene
Incredible. Three days of park is beyond my endurance, at least so far. I spent three days at Northstar opening weekend this year, and I was incredibly beat that last day, such that I ended up landing on my face wearing my half-shell. No harm done in the end, but a suboptimal end to a very rad weekend.
Man you guys really make riding in sandy conditions look so natural. I know i'd be all over the place. Sick video Alan, this park looks like a ton of fun.
Great video, I went there mid-July and also had a blast. I missed out on a few trails though, so guess I’ll have to remember them (e.g. shotgun) for the next time. Thanks for showing the different trails.
There's 2 great trails out that way, lower rock creek 7miles long and an old skool wagon wheel trail w the best views and tech in that area.... great video!
Snow summit is 240 acres vs Mammoth is 3500 acres, and Mammoth has a summit 3000 feet higher in elevation. Mammoth is right around 14x larger, so really no comparison.
Mammoth is great for more gnarly trails and epic views. Summit has those sweet, perfect jump lines. Mammoth is more like killer lift access to more natural trails with some features and jumps thrown in. Snow Summit is more bike-park-y with manicured trails and jumps with some raw stuff thrown in. Both are a rad day!
Man, that shell in the intro reminds me of some great drives up the 395! Thanks for presenting a great video of mammoths trails! if youre ever short of a driving buddy I'd be happy to volunteer!
Cool video, the eliminator is actually a bike trail and those berm jumps on twilight are quite easy if you just take them high at the start cut them low at the end.
@@mtb_alan Completely fair. It's a heck of a lot further than Summit, but for longer trips, the mountain never stops giving. Plus, there's nothing like using your bike as a ski in that litter!
Sick riding Alan ! U rode like a local !! This video brings back lots of good memories and me and AAboys can’t wait to go back to Mammoth!! Such a rad place !!
Hey Alan just want to say I discovered your channel today and really diggin your edits man. The transitions, the fast cuts, the music, the shots you pick, the humor and the riding!!! Apart from the other mtb youtubers this 🫡 subbed!
Wow that is the 1st time I’ve seen any one at this bike park and seems like there are heaps of trails. Very dry and loose and love the wooden features 🤙🏼 great riding Alan 👊🏻
Thanks! Yeah, Mammoth is a big mountain and there's plenty of room to have a good time! With the shuttles and the village nearby, t's pretty easy to get around especially on the weekends when Chair 2 and 16 are running. Good stuff in Mammoth's village and good, hometown stuff in town.
Ayyy bruh glad you enjoyed our park! Some potential highlights if you come back next season- Shock Treatment, Velociraptor, and a full 3000+ft decent via all of Skid Marks and Juniper. Techno Rock is also sick and has drops like Velocity.
Nice video. The terrain out there is so different that what I ride in the Northeast. Very cool to have a ride buddy with a camera so it is not all first person rider video.
@@mtb_alan we have a weekend trip booked for Snow Summit 23rd-25th and praying they will be open by then. If not, might be calling an audible and go to Mammoth.
Hey here's a quick tip that you may not know! If you want to get some quick runs in without paying, head out to the trails around 5:30 after the ticket checkers leave and you can just ride on in and shred the trails for free with no worries of getting caught! however you can only ride the lowers of all the trails because obv the gondola is shut down by that time. My favorite run had to be velocity (to) twilight zone (to) downtown (to) pipeline (to) shotgun. Hope you have/had a rad time out there!
Thanks for the tip. Sounds like the same kind of thing happens at a lot of bike parks. FWIW, I don't mind spending money and contributing to the rad trails I'm getting to enjoy. 🤘🏾
Great video Alan. I ride there about 6 days a season and you do a great job of highlighting some of the main trails. I agree following a local that knows the lines on runs like Velocity and Follow Me will make for a great day. Also getting a feel for how to link the different trails efficiently without climbing will make for a fun day. If you ride on the weekends and chair 2 and 16 are spinning you should be able to get up and down the hill with no climbing at all, here is my go to main runs in each zone. Gondola to the top: -Off the top -Kamikaze (Eliminator) -Shock Treatment -White Bark -Richter Mid Runs (McCoy): -Velocity -Twilight Zone (Ride Chair 2 up and repeat) (Ride upper Brake Through and get over to Flow area) Chair 16 runs (Loop and link any of these runs): -Flow -Pipeline -Follow Me -Shotgun -Smooth Operator
Great tips! Our first day was Thursday, so we stayed near McCoy and at one point took Twilight Down to the bottom of chair 2 and grabbed a shuttle back to Main Lodge. But wow were we stoked on chair 2 and 16. At one point, the gondola had a line out the door, so we just rolled down the road to chair 2 and kept on rippin'. Thanks for the trail sequences. We did most of those. And I didn't realize Eliminator was Kamikaze. That's good to know. We missed Shock Treatment. I also wanna check out Chain Smoke, Techno Rock, Bullet DH, and DC-10. Though, those might still be above my pay grade. 😆
Great riding! I don't think I could get into riding those desert trails, it looks so loose, like you are riding on a beach half the time. Great video though!
1:09 No distortion lenses exist. I have one, so I don't have that issue. But I don't know if they fit the newer cameras. I have a GoPro Hero 7 with PeauPro87 3.37mm(19mm), it captures 87 degrees. I just chatted with them, the Hero 10 lens is glued on, they tried to remove it, but they can't without destroying the camera. So no hero10 for me then.
Yeah it is! I'll have to check those spots out. Thanks for the suggestions. We hit Mammoth Brewing and a pizza place in town...name of which I can't recall, but it was hella good.
riding these trails all summer desensitized me to the difficulty.. love seeing you guys conquer these trails. ( ps. i lacerated my kidney on those boomerang pavers a few weeks ago xD )
Alan, noticed you were wearing the Smith Mainline today but you also frequently wear a Fox. I’m looking to order a full-face this weekend so if you had to choose one, which would you suggest?
If you want a trail full-face, I'd suggest the TLD Stage. For a bike park full-face, get one that's DH rated and find the one that's comfortable and fits you well. Ideally, your local bike shop will have some you can try on. I always sacrifice some comfort for safety at the bike park since we're going so much faster and bigger there. The Smith Mainline is meant for both trail and the park as it's DH rated. I tried one on at The Path (my local bike shop) and dug how it fit and felt. I find it to be a bit too heavy for trail days, so it's my park lid. Hope that helps.
Great riding. Love to watch your videos!! Hope you will be riding with your fellow German RUclipsr Freeride Flo in the near future. He is also sponsored by Giant. Maybe he will come over to California to visit. Let's see what 2023 has in store for you!!
