just locate where you have Origin games installed and delete the (dbghelp.dll) file from each game folder (Generals and Zero hour)

@@KILLtrOTTcity EA games could if they wanted to, they own Westwood and the rights . they could hire a team of programmers, bring westwood and command & conquer back to life, I think they are afraid of losing money, they could be sitting on a gold mine, but EA games wont take the risk.

Nice catch! I know many people are still having issues with Origin/Win10 and being unable to play these games and their associated mods. I purchased the Ultimate colelction, my CD's are quite damaged from wearing them out. So, downloaded and isntalled the games.. directx error all the time (machine has dx12, so it shouldn't be bugging) Was afraid I wouldn't be able to play my beloved games. Yet here you are, teaching us that yes we can :D

I found this issue aswell when I did a file scan from CD and Origin version of the game late 2018.

i did this , didn't work. will just flash the zero hour blue loading page then after a few seconds it is gone and nothing happens. already did compatibility settings.

Didn't work, my game won't sync! I used to just click on the icon on my desktop run as administrator and the window of C&C would pop up with both Generals and Zero Hour, that window won't pop up, and I now have to run the game on Origin, and it doesn't sync, literally tried everything, and nothing helps, the game just won't start, it can't sync, whatever that is!
you have two games, the CD and Origin? they should run independent of one another (each one will have its corks to get working). Maybe two different versions. Are you trying to move the saved games over to Origin? I would love to see the error box, if you could take a screen shot and upload it (imgur.com/) send me the link.
Patrick Lee I only have the Origin version, but it won’t sync. I appreciate the help, I’ll send you the pic once I can. It’s frustrating, the game all of a sudden stopped working! I tried to change the configurations, and it still didn’t work!

Patrick- i discovered this video while searching for an EA Origin problem I am having. I downloaded Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge from Origin. When i click the program to run it launches and I can hear it running in the background perfectly but the screen is black! Please help!!!!

I download ZH from Origin. I try to play but it says "zero hour installation not found". Its hooked through CnC online Revora. Any adivice?
Revora is totally foreign to me, I don't have it.
Are you trying to open it from Origin? "Instillation not found" means the program you are running (I am guessing you are opening Revora first) can not locate where zero hour is installed. You need to know where the root directory of the games location so Revora can locate it. Also If you have two HDs it could be looking on the wrong one.
It looks like you are trying to play on both sides of the coin. either origin or Revora.
Revora is a third party in association with C&C. They have their own download for the game, why would you need origin. Revora states "We focus mainly on the development and modding of video games". They have changed the original programing (being that the game is not supported by westwood any more) to get it to run by today's standards, remember if you use Revora you are bound to them because your version of the game will not match other player that do not have Revora, only players that have Revora will you be able to play with.
I would ditch them and open from Origin and install from Origin and use "Game Ranger" for older multi-player games.

what CPU & GPU are you using? I'm using ryzen 3600 and rx 570, follow the instruction and crash after 2-5 minute gameplay, I need help!
I'm running a FX 8350 w/ RX 590 OC . It's not your equipment, the game is almost 20 years old. I would first check your windows and AMD Radeon software is up to date ( windows has a lot of KB file updates that help old games run on the latest OS , check your in game video setting but you should be able to run a max settings. Run a repair on (right click on generals where you launch the game in origin) or reinstall but it will put those bad .dll files back in. I have found that most of my games that crash is form pushing my system to hard. if you are overclocking try lowering. my system will run a 4.4 GHZ but GTA 5 will run for 5 min.s and then crash. I had to lower it to 4 GHZ to get it to play stable.

Hey man. My game just opens and loads everything but I can't see anything. I just get a black screen while the game is right in the menu. I can just hear the background action. Any fixes?..
the good news is your computer can run the game but your video card is having issues. The first basic step is to update the video card drivers and windows. from what i googled (what causes black screen video card issues with games) there are a lot of fixes on you tube for black screen to try before running out to buy a new GPU (over heating could be a problem too). What video card are you using?

I followed it step by step but I still get the error for DirectX 8.1. My screen flutters and then I get the error. I am using Windows 7 with DirectX 11.
it's windows 7 causing it, you can upgrade to windows 10 for free (just keep 32 bit at 32 and 64 bit at 64 which ever you have for windows 7 and make sure your windows 7 license is active), I upgraded my laptop a month ago with this video ruclips.net/video/QdNL-pvvXH4/видео.html if you are not happy with it you can revert back to windows 7. Keep in mind for this to work you must have bought this game version online from Origin.

Heya, I deleted the file from both folders but the error still comes up. i've even changed the base res in the options.ini file to 800x600 but still nothing. any ideas? searching forums, but still no help. appreciate it if you can suggest anything. Thanks
**EDIT** I made a shortcut to the .exe file (for each part of the game) on the desktop and went into properties and the compatibility tab. I checked the "run in 640x480 screen resolution" box, and then it worked.

I did some research on it and it looks like it might be a Microsoft issue with you having ownership, but I don't know because I am not able to see the error or how it it's being caused. no it doesnt. direct x error still pops up and i cannot play the game. Nor does dx runtime downloads or changing resolutions in ini files. I have literally tried every fix and no difference. Typical of my luck with these things. I wasted 25 pounds on origin for nothing ....
well , it worked for me and the others that posted thanks, but there are 10 thumbs down so I imagine it don't work for everybody.
Are you running on windows10 home edition 64bit? Are you using direct X 12? Are you getting the same error "Please make sure you are using direct x 8.1 or higher installed. Also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements"? Did you run "verify game integrity" after any changes you made in the game files to bring the game back to it's originality when it was downloaded, then remove the (dbghelp.dll) files? If any of these questions are "no" and/or if you installed any mods, then this fix may not work for you.
I also don't know what you changed in the .ini files but I hope you made copies of them before you made any changes so you can put the originals back in or remember what you changed to get them back to original. You could also delete the .ini files and run the verify game integrity should replace them if you didn't make copies or just do a complete reinstall. You can always make certain changes to those later once the game runs.I only change the resolution in the .ini file in games that are already running, this is just to get the video output to fit the resolution to the monitor you are running it on. it's like putting the cart before the horse, why are you worried about resolution settings when the game wont load properly?
The problem I had lies when the program loads the bdghelp.dll file, there is something in the bdghelp.dll file's coding, that when applied to the program and the program runs it, it detects the direct x in your OS as an older version and stops the process and kicks it out as an error.
@@patricklee8552 Hi. Its windows 10 pro, DX12 and yes to all the first set of questions. the only changes I made to the ini files was the resolution settings like the fix says to do. I also of course, deleted the dgbhelp dll from both games as the fix suggests. I then went and did the same steps shown in this video too and still no joy. Tried a fix from 2012 (i think) where you basically type out on notepad ( i copied what the fixer had put down for the settings using copy and paste) the settings options then save it into the genertals directory as options (like the fix said to do). I have literally tried them all, and none even make a dent in the problem. Error dx8.1 make sure blah blah. So god damn frustrating, then to see all these comments like "hey it worked thank you so much!!" piss me off even more, why not me. how can mine specifically not touch it while others do. its not fair. how can it be such a lottery? ....
I have just uninstalled and reinstalled the game a fresh. just deleted dll, still same error. I then tried to change just the resolution on ini files like another potential fix suggests, still same. I have literally no idea what else i can try. apart from get my old windows xp desktop out and play it there ..... never had these issues on the great old machines.
Hi. I have just tried a fix called "gen patcher" from cncnz. Running the program automatically applies all known fixes. I ran this after installing a fresh unspoiled copy of the original generals package from origin and even with all these fixes it still gives the direct x error and won't play. I don't know what else can be done. I have tried everything there is, even running dgvoodoo2 to wrap the dll files. No use. It's simply, stunningly an unsolvable mystery. Can't believe I won't be able to play this great game :(

They are not really that small, it's the 34" ultra wide monitor that makes then look small
I downloaded generals from origin but when i open it nothing happens no errors no missing shit it just does't open idk why in origins the play button goes grey then orange.... i deleted the folder like you said and ofc nothing happened i changed everthing in properties and still same problem... its been 6 hours trying to fix this shit.
dose the whole screen go grey then orange on your monitor, dose it lock up your computer? sounds more like video drivers at play

i didnt download the crack version to not have problems turns out the real version is fucked up more than the crack

C&C ultimate collection was first designed for Windows XP/Vista/7. Windows 10 and 8.1 have compatibility settings in properties to run games made for older OS. C&C Ultimate Collection is so old you shouldn't have no problem running it on any OS . Origin is the name of the web client browser for EA games to sell their games, EA games are not developers, they are distributors, but they have bought companies that develop games, such as Westwood. EA games have not modified any of their games programing for newer OS, when you download a game from Origin it is the same as it was on the day it was released (it is up to the game developers that run the servers that update their games, such as Battlefront 2, the Sim 4, ect...). Westwood is technically a dead company and has been dead for quite some time now. Now if you are planing to buy a new OS I would suggest windows 10 64 bit because Microsoft has no plans to update the older OS

Right ok. So this comment is gonna be placed on several generals "fix" videos as it is a baffling mystery. My laptop spec in short summary. Intel core i7 8th gen 8750H CPU, Gtx1060 6GB GPU, 16GB ram, Windows 10 pro (version 1903 AFAIK).
So I have the directx error shown on so many Generals "fix" videos. Every way to "fix" it hast worked. Here is what I have tried.
1). The simple "delete the dgbhelp.dll files from both generals and zero hour folders, Still get directx error.
2). Tried the simple "change the resolution" fix on the options/ini file, still get directx error
3). Tried to wrap the dll using DGvoodoo2 dll wrapper (this was a suggestion made by a forum post which got the poster's generals to work) and paste it into the generals directory, then copy 4 dll files from the dgvoodoo x86 folder into the main generals directory, and rename d3d8.dll file to d3d8x.dll. still get the directx error.
4). suggested to me by "Generals legionnaire", double checked that the generals data and generals zero hour data files (which appear by default, and are supposed to do so, in your documents folder) aren't accidentally being placed in microsoft one drive. (I checked, and my one drive wasn't even set up). Also to check in the registry editor that the reg's for the game contain the right information. All was as it should. Still get directx error.
5). Downloaded and installed the official microsoft directx redistribution files, which will replace any missing old directx data which is supposed to be present on directx 12 which might not be. Still get the directx error
6). Probably the most baffling, and one I was CERTAIN, HAD to work. Tried the brilliant "Gen patcher" created by "generals legionnaire". This is a great custom made program which goes through all your generals/generalsZH directory files and corrects every potential issue which is known to cause this directx error, fixes resolution issue and much more. STILL get the directx error ....
Just to add. The Generals version I am using is the Origin ultimate collection one. But I have tried it from @t just to be sure it wasn't my version at fault. Also, before trying each step I first uninstalled and reinstalled a fresh, unchanged install of the game, to eliminate any chance of contamination and/or changes contradicting changes. I have also tried all the "fixes" mentioned above together at the same time. STILL get the directx error. I really don't know how it can still not be working. Is there anything more at all I can try? Anyone on youtube or anywhere else found another way to get the game to work? Or, having replayed all the C&C games again, bar Generals, am I just going to have to accept the fact this one isn't ever gonna work for me, and just cut my losses and give up?

If you are talking about Multiplayer you can play this game on Game Ranger www.gameranger.com/ or you can direct play with friends through IP address. The only problem I would see is if you are trying to play a game with someone that has this game modded, then your versions will not match.

I finally got The game to work. Uninstall origin and the game. Roll back the video card driver. Then reinstall origin and game and then delete file dbghelp.dll .
