People always talk about James, Kirk and Lars, but can we appreciate how amazing Jason’s bass lines and backing vocals were? He is missed in Metallica.
This was honestly the last thing I expected Queen would open their tribute concert for Freddie with, but I am glad they did open with this because Metallica is awesome
@@johnbarker3308 Nobody is making that argument but you. Unfortunately Cliff died, so it's kind of pointless even comparing anyway. The OP was just saying that while he appreciates Rob, he also misses Jason's contributions to the band.
13 year old me watched this entire concert live, with my Mum (herself a lifelong Queen fan). Of course, I was also absolutely obsessed with Metallica. So this sent me into orbit. The TV couldn't go loud enough.
i like to imagine the 40-50 year old music snob that came here because queen was one of their favorite classic rock band and as soon as the concert starts, this monster of a song starts as he gets shaken up from left to right
I have nothing against Rob Trujillo and I like the way he plays all the songs with his fingers and appears to have a nice character, but Jason Newsted's presence on stage is so energizing. His face, his headbanging, his backing vocals... a force of nature. I have watched that concert live on TV. While I was already into Hard Rock and Metal bands, this concert made me form a band two years later. I moved on to two other bands after that but the magic playing with band mates is an unforgettable experience. Until 1999/2000 then I stopped singing. Three years ago I got my first guitar which was more in the case up until last year. Now, I enjoy learning and playing on two guitars. It's still sad that this great event had such a tragic background. But for me it was really "It's a kind of magic".
Rob's resume is incredible too. Suicide Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Ozzy. I've been a fan for a long time and was psyched to hear he was joining Metallica. But yeah, Jason was the guy they needed after Cliff died and maybe still need but such is life!
Cliff was the bass player only became a legend with what happened RIP... Jason was the bass player Metallica lost an are still grieving just like the fans 😩😩😩😩🎶🎶🎶

Jesus, I was at that concert and I don't remember Metallica playing? My only memory was how good George Michael sung that evening and having the hots for Lisa Stansfield!!
James vocals insane here. No struggle. By 1993 1994 he can't sing it like he did here. This is so effortless. Plus, his hair is long here. In 1994 I noticed he started cutting the front short lol. Like a mullet or something.
Thing is, he would probably sound like something between Vince Meal and Jon Bon Jovi by now if he didn’t start using that smoother voice. Screaming like that doesn’t age well.
I was 10 when Fred died I remember watching this concert but I don't remember this at all. I was a massive queen fan but it was about 8 years later I got into metallica. Really surprised to see metallica there but the reach and influence queen and Freddie had was absolutely immense. A tragedy he went he had so much more to give
