My hometown (Khimki) is near the Tushino airfield. I was about 1 year old when this event happened. My parents later told me that when the music started it could be heard from any place in the nortwest of Moscow region, which is about 20 kilometers away or much further. So I can assume that the music could be heard all over Moscow too. What a historic moment! This metal gods has blown the place into pieces! I will envy those who were fortunate to be there for the rest of my life...
Sofaki Metall I was born in 96 what you talking about, Born the day pac died. The only Concerts I'm going to go to is the hologram 1s because all the Legends are pretty much dead.
@@MsArcher41 "According to various sources (the exact figure cannot be given, because the entrance was free), on Saturday, from 300 to 400 thousand people visited the airfield in Tushino. They did not reach the Guinness Book of Records (while the record for attendance of the free Jean-Michel Jarre show in 1989 in Paris, which was attended by 1 million 300 thousand spectators, is held), but maybe this is for the best." It is impossible to record 1.6 million to the papers in a day in 1991. Yes it was a free concert which means at least x2 or x3 of audiences have possibility to get to concert without even seen in the mixure of crowd. But that day there was not just Metallica there. It was a multi band festival which includes AC/DC and Pantera like bands. From begining to end new audiences could come partly and estimated numbers could be guess like that. But shortly when you look at the horizon in the concert it looks like endless when you compare with other concerts. I think there were at least 1m people to join the festival in a day which means crazy.
Helicopters above you and a sea of humans right in front you and you the front man of THE GREATEST BAND in the Planet....James must have felt like a God.
A monumental moment in history and ending the communism, new era, new free life...people were hoping that the terror is finally over! Just look the crowd.. chilling.....there are millions of people there, guarded by the army, not just the police, am army!!.. People truly celebrating the freedom and hoped for better future!! Western world will never knew how those people felt in those moment! Better RUclips to keep this video forever!
You totally misunderstood how people felt it. It was just a banger, big party. Not some idea of freedom of something. We didn't consider ourselves unfree. Change? INteresting future? Yeah. But not freedom ideas.
@@skywillfindyou Big party dosent mean that probably some other people thаn you felt it different back than - free, with hopes. It's not just your perspective....I do probably misunderstood your point of view and it's ok, but don't speak of the name of all.
One of the best live performances ever, no question. What I would give to have been there (but I was 6 years old)... I'm not even into heavy metal and I can recognize this as one of the most epic moments in musical history... Holy fuck.
Archie Dyer Thunderstruck is also sick as f* and overall I must say I prefer AC/DC over Metallica but this intro still is the best I've heard so far. Good point though!
Found Metallica 6 years ago and this song/video was the first song I ever heard! Still, love it today! And i was to my first Metallica concert 27th of March in Denmark! Love it !!
Thanks for uploading this. You got me into Metallica. Made me pick up a guitar and have the motivation to keep learning till I played as powerful as them. Never until that point have I ever heard as powerful music as this. And to think this is live... So badass.
People put too much politics in the comments. It was just a concert of the most popular band in the biggest European city after decades of the iron curtain. Nobody won the cold war. Nobody invaded Russia.
Dios mio!!!! concierto epico y inolvidable ; si hubiera una maquina del tiempo sin duda iria a este concierto y verlos de cerquita para decirles que los amooooo
This is the time when music and expression is more important, unlike today people are more attracted by the appearance of a performer on stage people some times look for good looking people dancing on stage. They even claimed to have an army but METALLICA much more to have an army.
there were about 1.6 million people at this concert, but that is still less than 1/2 of what Jean-Michel Jarre and Sir Rod Stewart had 3 1/2 million but still massive, and people try to say they suck....1.6 mil people can't be wrong.

You can't monetize footage ripped from a product, in this case Metallica's "Monsters of Rock" concert CD.
1.6 million people screaming, one of the largest concerts ever! Probably the greatest live performance in metal history.
You don’t have to be a Metallica or even a metal fan to be amazed by that video
Agree

This is what we call true concert.

Legends say people are still leaving this concert.
Aayush Kaliraj lol it took us 1 hr to leave the Baltimore 2k17 concert I could only imagine trying to leave this oh god
People that were in front of the stage went there like 2 days before the concert xd
Their still arriving, I know I'm in the cue.
