Lyrics:
New blood joins this Earth and quickly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace, the young boy learns their rules
With time the child draws in this whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts, the young man struggles on and on
He's known, ooh, a vow unto his own that never from this day
His will they'll take away, yeah
What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be, never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free, never me
So I dub thee "Unforgiven"
They dedicate their lives to running all of his
He tries to please them all this bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same, he's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win, a tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares to die regretfully
That old man here is me, yeah
What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be, never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free, never me
So I dub thee "Unforgiven"
What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be, never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free, never me
So I dub thee "Unforgiven," whoa
Never free, never me
So I dub thee "Unforgiven"
You labeled me, I'll label you
So I dub thee "Unforgiven"
Ah, never free, never me
So I dub thee "Unforgiven"
You labeled me, I'll label you
So I dub thee "Unforgiven"
Never free, never me
So I dub thee "Unforgiven"

Shit...first time I heard that line, I was so comforted knowing that someone else out there was feeling the same thing. And I was only 18 when this album came out. Now at close to 50 this REALLY rings out.
Totally get it. Never live your life doing what someone else WISHED they did. Its your life not theirs!!! Many a life been ruined that way 😥
Guys this shit hurts.
I heard this song in 1992 and related to it. I was adopted at birth in 1965 and some of my aunts and uncles reminded me that I was not blood. I was expected to adhere to what I was told to do.By the time I was in my early 20's my father was reminding me I wasn't blood. He was old enough to be my grandfather. They were a Louisiana southern family. As long as I played by the rules, it was okay, When I got into my teens and beyond and tried to have my own thoughts, I was a cast away.
@@ritasentilles5825 Rita, I applaud you for the strength it took to go your own way and create your own path regardless of that poor environment you were in.
Its always about the money and ego
This song brings me to tears, I love it so much, but reminds of my grandson when he was little and up to teenage years The lyrics make me think of some of the grief he may have felt , growing up around parents with addictions , etc . And now at his current age of 16 , I’d give my own life for him to never feel sad again
I really hope and pray that your grandson find the way out of addiction. It's hard to see someone that you love so much being consumed by that monster. I lost my brother recently, he had an addiction, but at the end I don't even know what happened to him. I saw him loosing himself and his life little by little.
you are a great grandparent and i am certain he will never feel sad with you on his side
What happened to his parents?

Dear reader,
I don't know you and you don't know me, probably we are not even living in the same country, we look different... We speak different languages, maybe we are from entirely different generations. We are just complete strangers, but there is something that connects us. We both have great taste in music !
Thank you for being here. God bless you, whoever you are!
God bless you too, my unknown friend
It‘s great and true... Music is Love

Yeah absolutely right 😍
Yo tampoco te conozco, pero es como si nos conocieramos de toda la vida; solamente compartir esta música, es más que suficiente, tenemos buen gusto musical, Larga vida para todos. Un abrazo
The story behind the solo is great. Kirk was pushed and delivered the solo of a lifetime at exactly the right moment.
Anyone listening to this in 2024!!

Andrew Fain you didn't get what he was saying. They created these musical sounds they had to think out of the box to create what you hear today. That started a generation.

Couldn't agree more. I was at the Toronto show as well. First time seeing them, and so grateful I was able to. I thought it was the most perfect concert... sound wise, performance, lights, just everything. I didn't hear even 1 fucked note. A night I wish I could see over and over for sure.
Briana De Luca I seen them in London when I was younger it's was fucking epic I'd love to see them again, all the flames shooting from the stage with huge coffins hanging from the ceiling and green lasers and Kirk with his bad ass guitar have you seen it I think it has like Frankenstein's monster on it
Carolina Montealegre I was listening to Metallica when people like you made fun of people like me for listening to them....Then they came out with "One" and all the people jumped on the bandwagon, try listening to Killem All or Garage days, super fan

Honoured to be a metallica fan
A young highschooler was studying for the big college exam. Listening this song on his walkman over and over… The calendar was showing the years 96…97…98…❤️❤️
This was the first metallica song i ever heard as a kid. I got a guitar, learned to play, met a girl, got married and had 2 kids. 30 years later, divorced and coming back to my roots. Picking up the guitar again, and still feel the same chill in my bones listening to this song that kicked off my whole life. Thank you metallica. Heres to a new life.
Best of luck my brother. Metallica for life 🤘🏻

Metallica is a huge heavy metal band. But they are not just good at music, they have a BIG heart! They donated 250.000 Euro for the construction of the first privately founded hospital for children sick of cancer in Romania and the right to use "The Unforgiven" sound in an advertisement for the fund raising! Uno de los mejores solos de la historia! EMOCIONAL !!!
Piel de gallina al escucharlo!!
I know all the cool kids shit on Kirk these days, but this solo is undeniably great
Its his magnum opus
He’s not the best guitar player ever but I can happily admit that the solo is pure gold.
Jamie Koering he’s an amazing guitarist but he just uses too much wah and makes half good sometimes plain bad solos nowdays and even during the recording of the song bob rock had to really squeeze that solo out of him he can’t do solo with emotion and feel anymore. I know he doesn’t deserve the hate from people but I do see why they think he’s bad but he just needs solos This good then perhaps he won’t be overlooked.
Kirk is fine
people shitting on Kirk are just pathetic losers anyway. He is the lead guitarist of one of the greatest and most successful bands in history, he's in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. All the losers shitting on him are literally nowhere. xD

Metallica was riding a high feom the late 80s to mid 90s. If you were there to see it youd know this. But its easy to look back and make judgements.
@@yosoywilson78 i will never understand you older people. you think that because you lived throught that time you know more about it than us just because you live through it. im 17 and i gaurantee you i have more of a passion for metal and i know more about it than any of you old fucks
@@GcorpMK you don't get what he's trying to say. He's not saying he knows more about metal than young people he is saying he knows more about what if was like to actually live through this era to understand just how big metallica was during this time. Easy for ppl online to say metallica post justice sucks (common theme among internet "metal experts" lol) but those of us who actually remember this period remember that metallica was the shit and ruled the world during this time.
@@yosoywilson78 late 80's? there were at their height at 83-93. kill em all was a hit. best debut album ever. RTL was and still is their best album. after the black album they became hipsters.
Not MY favorite band or anything, but it’s almost hard to believe that Metallica has achieved what they have. They’re such a phenomenon and have contributed to music in no different a fashion or scope than Mozart or Liszt did during their own times, I’ll give them that simply cuz they have it due to them. So I would also have to say there’s no peaking involved. They reached legendary status across generations and will never even qualify to be “passed their peak” or no longer “in.” There’s no falling from where they have reached. And I don’t know many other bands who reached such a height. Obviously Beatles did, Fleetwood Mac definitely did, heck they were going strong after seven decades and just last year lossy their first band mate. There’s no possible way Metallica won’t do the same. They’re one of the only bands that came out of their time that everyone on earth under 75 years old knows and recognizes. They enjoy the recognition the world over amongst their contemporaries only surpassed by the Jackson’s. I’m not entirely sure, you’d have to ask their fans but this song is surely in the running for the band’s magnum opus, as Nothing Else and others. Their songs couldn’t unseat Stairway or anything as far as thee quintessential rock song, but they definitely have some pieces that will join the timeless classics. So again, I don’t think after achieving all they have that such a band really qualifies to have a peak and a fall from high.
2024 and still unforgiven....
the esoteric and psychology of the soul presented in the unforgiven trilogy blows me away
When music was REAL. Guitar solos, inspired lyrics, and songs that lasted longer than 3 min. I will never forget the first time I heard this song 30yrs ago #longlivemetallica
Yeah Metal was real back then after Chuck Schuldiner and Dimebag died a great part of Metal died. Now we have all this Metal without guitar solos and boobs give me back Cliff Burton and the real Anthrax not the ones who hangout with Butcher babies and then I will forgive Metal. The only Modern Metal I like is Modern Thrash like power trip outside of Neo Thrash Modern Metal has some lazy bands who just use downtuned 8 string guitars and stupid Goth bands that use their female singers as sex objects.
it's all about the algorithm nowadays
Metallica rules but rap is dominating now and it’s very good

I'm getting old but my heart is getting young again by listening those Metallica songs - parts of my fading youth. Metallica forever until I die 🤘 - 1992 (22 years old) - 2021 (51 years old) ...
Snap 51 in two days I’m getting older but don’t feel old best wishes to you
51,is NOT old
@@assemblysan Say that again when you're 51, whipper snapper.
@@assemblysan how old are you then?
Valeu amigo rock cabelo
Drogas amigos muito 🤘🤘
I always wondered how this song/whole album would age.
Now I know of its immensity decades later.
This song hits like a freight train
Stop asking if there is anyone we never left!❤
This solo feels like mentally snapping and going on a murderous rampage. One of the best solos in Metal history
Definitely! Feeling is mutual
😭💔
One of the best songs ever written, without a doubt.
For sure..
Totally. 🤘
Totally legendary 🙌
Absolutely. I wish it got a little more recognition for being that.
Definitely
Just turned 50. This song couldn’t describe life any better. Once you accept this and find your path to overcome all this madness, life become exponentially better. As always, excellent work Metallica. 👏👏👏
I can't forgive myself for not listening to this song before. Truly a masterpiece
My mom asked me to play this at her funeral...I did 😢😢😢
Edit..wow a year later and I never thought I'd get the responses I did..I was only speaking from my heart..thank you so much everyone 🥰
RIP sorry for your loss

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Still waiting for The Unforgiven IV or V or maybe even VI
Anyone in may 2024?
My grandma had this played during her funeral. We took liquor shots during the guitar solo, graveside. Grandma dug herself out, Unforgiven style, later that night and was understandably upset with the family 😅
One of Kirk Hammet's finest solos, hearing Lars thunder away on the mini tom/snare fill he does right before Kirk starts shredding always gives me goosebumps!
lars suck
At that part right now , amazing
A fact.
Could you imagine how hard they be shredding still if cliff never died.
@neemz0117 I honestly think besides for being a bit more musically proper (Cliff was more versed in musical theory than the rest) Metallica would have largely remained the same.
The reason I say this is because James & Lars are the drivers, while Kirk & Cliff/Jason/Rob are the passengers.
I am 123 years old, and I died some time ago.
Here in Heaven we listen to shis song and praise for the living.
Generational trauma.... I feel it in every word of this song... Redemption, strength and power... release.
Thank you for the generous gesture of giving up the rights of this song so the proceeds go to the building of a hospital in Romania. You guys are heroes, and no one can or will contest your legacy. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing that info! wow!

Yes, this comment is perfect
1992 I was 17 and this song floored absolutely everybody. 2022 I’m 47 and this song still floors me. So insanely talented. This band meant so much in 90’s this band means so much in the 2020’s
They really aren't what they once were. Megadeths made better music since 1990.
SHUT UP PÍECE OH SHIT
Ich bin jetzt 48 super song
I was 7 in 92' with siblings much older. I'm now realizing how great of an era in the arts I grew up in between music and movies.
