Looks like a good solution for gigs without back pain.
I watch a lot of gear videos and I really feel that Shawn gives honest and intelligent opinions on the gear he reviews. His review style is straightforward and although he is a professional player I never feel like he’s speaking over my head technically
Late to a party, but for me, this proves that you can get great results with solid state amp if you have two things - good EQ section (or eq pedal) and compressor. So you can dial more "natural" sound, cut boomy bass and ad mids, high mids and presence. And dial some sagg and attack with compressor. great, thanks
Another great demo Shawn! The beautiful opening track, and that display of guitars in split-screen was almost indecent. Thanks
Honestly, it sounds way better than I expected. The way you have it set up, it sounds amazing!
I used the 170 with helix and a 212 blackstar cab sounds great to me.
hoping to combine this with an Effectrode Blackbird tube preamp.
Hi, how did you find that combination? I also have the Blackbird. Looking for a portable power amp.
I knew Shawn would make this device sound amazing, as always, so l clicked. More a case of hearing another great Shawn performance / composition than gear demo at this point and moving forward.
I love my old Fender and Marshall tube amps but wow that little sucker sounds fantastic for a Solid state!
I've been recently looking for an emergency backup amp in the event (which is inevitable) of a tube amp crapping out on me on stage, and was seriously considering buying the Quilter Tone block 200, but thanks to you S.T., I think I'm sold on this less expensive S.D. unit now!
you make everything sound great I guess we gotta buy everything.
Good tone and zero tube inconsistency games. Like.
That sounds great 👍 almost like a phatt twin reverb.the tune at the beginning was stellar 👍
What if you want it to be a completely PEDAL based rig, this included, and you just wanted to plug into FOH and have them send you a monitor feed? Is this product for this type of scenario?
thanks, Tubbs !!
I have been considering such a set up
after carrying my 70# ProSonic, or VibroKing
my arm is so toasted I can hardly play
Digging the SCAD cap!
Thanks, Robert! My kiddo goes to there.
Playing from the heart. Awesome
Would love to hear this with a SYN-1 and module of your choice. That is how I am considering using it.
I would love to hear the syn-1 with the powerstage as I have the 170 which I use with my fractal and a passive frfr
I would think that would sound great! I don't have any more modules laying around. I've sent them all back to Synergy.
Looking to get me one of these... this review kinda convinced me it's worth getting. Thanks
Love the blue note. Nice job with the demo.
Love the diversity of this performance track brother! Great video as always!
Thanks, Jimmie!
Love the sound of this intro!
You had me with your hamonies...
A nice Ampeg G110 or Lab Series L5 solid state *FET* (Field Effect Transistor) preamp onboard would be nice for some warmth and pick attack breakup, which isn't serious, but it's what all guitarists expect.
isn't this supposed to be used with a preamp in front of it anyway?
Beautiful demo thank you Shawn
Love the opening music!!!
Love the slide harmonies, and that gorgeous 12-string has given me a serious case of GAS! Must say though that I didn't care much for the Cab Sim sound at the end, sounded dull compared with your 2-12 cab, at least through my laptop speakers.
Great demo very informative thank you
What about the noise from the fan? Many buyers have complained about that, but it would be interesting to know what sound it actually makes.
Wow that sounds killer!
Oh how I love tiny sized Powerful amps...as does my back
Excellent review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Your playing is always great. The pedalboard amp sounded a little bit dark to me. Even with the treble and presence turned up, it was just a bit dark sounding (at least to me).
The way I was running it, I had to keep the presence up, but I wanted to use it with my existing board without really using a pedal as a preamp. I could have easily turned on my Pettyjohn Chime MKII and added top-end presence as an always-on pedal, but I wanted the listener to hear what the PS200 could do on its own.
Great video man! Did you try using it to re-amp a reactive load (to a separate cab), similar to the Fryette power station?
What wattage cabinets would you run it through?
If by any chance you get a Tonex would you please do some testing of it through this Powerstage 200 and into a cabinet (provided you still have this and use it that way)? I'm debating buying one of these, a Blackstar Amped 1, or just giving in and setting up a DAW and getting monitors, etc. So far I'm liking the Tonex but have just started experimenting with it by running it through a Fender Mustang GTX50 that I wiped the dust off of (Tonex models are much better than the Fender models and the technology is just much better). Great video, by the way!
I hope you considered the Amped 3 as well. poweamp inside it. Great sounds.
So youd be sending a signal to the sound guy.. who may or may not be equipped to send a good signal back to a monitor JUST FOR YOU..? Seems like some people have actually never played a typical gig at a dive bar . I mean its great if you have youre own sound person OR a really attentive one.. HOW many times has that ever happened? again on a typical club gig
What is the advantage of using powerstage 200 against a DI box if going direct to the house/PA
For silent recording (xlr out) does it have to be speaker load conected, when the unit is turned on? I guess Level knob sends signal just to cab only?
Most solid-state amps don't need a speaker load and because there is a headphone output, I would think you're good. I would reach out to SD to be sure.
Intro is very reminiscent of Radiohead's - My Iron Lung.
No speaker load needed .. cool,!
Awesome video man, Do you happen to know what cab they loaded on it for the cab sim? Thank you!
Oh man, I don't. I know it's an analog simulation. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help.
So you don't use any preamp in that gear ?
I always thought a preamp was needed to get sound
No, you can run your pedals into the Powerstage 200 just like you would any other pedal platform amp.
A little late to the party, but is the heat generated from the unit enough to undo the adhesive on the velcro strips? Don't want a sticky mess after a 4 hr gig. 😬
I don't think it will generate that kind of heat but reach out to SD to be sure.
@@ShawnTubbs thanks Shawn! Appreciate it. 👍🏼
TOTALLY unrelated to the topic of this video, but... WHAT MAKE OF 12 STRING GUITAR WAS THAT!?!??!?!
That's a Hamer Newport 12. They're pretty rare and amazing guitars.
@Shawn Tubbs , considering home practice whithout cabinet and the pedal platform aspect, do you think that a direct connection with the áudio interface or by the REVV G20 are better or similar options?
Is The Power stage 200watts per each output?
200 W into 4 ohms. so 100 W into 8 ohms, 50 W into 16 ohms.
Can you hear the cab sim out of the speaker output? Or does the cab sim only work on the phones and balance out?
You won't hear it through the speaker output.
What cable type you use from the speakers outout to the cab?
You would use a speaker cable for sure. If you were to use a guitar cable or "shielded" cable it would work, but over time it would cause problems.
Is this pedal recommended to go straight to FOH without using a guitar amp or cabinet? Trying to go ampless at my church.
I would think it would work nicely!
It's like your a pro or something.....
what is the OEM out putt for the cabs and the other what do you do if its a mono cab vrs stereo and all of that my pedalboard i got can be left mo no out to stereo out

@@ShawnTubbs thank you
Great video! Love this SD, bought it... running to a PRS 60watt 16ohm cab... I'm new the amp and cab situation... am I asking for trouble with that combination? So far, I understand the 200w amp to a 60w speaker is fine... true?
Yeah, you should be fine running that cab but it's always good to reach out to the manufacturer to be sure.
@@ShawnTubbs Thank you, Shawn. Cheers
Shawn I just love your demo songs. If you made an album of those I would buy it. Love the Suhr Tele hollow body. Am I correct in assuming you could go XLR direct FOH without loading the speaker outs? It sounds pretty flat in terms of taking distortion pedals, which I like.
Shawn does have an album of demo songs you can purchase at Bandcamp. shawntubbs.bandcamp.com/album/demolition-a-collection-of-short-guitar-jams
Thanks so much!! I'm honestly not sure about running the PS 200 with no speaker load. I would think you could but I would reach out to SD to be sure. Thanks for watching!
The pedal versions of these PowerStage amps are pretty much perfect for what they are.
The thing that holds the PowerStage 700 back from being the perfect stereo amp is the placement of the inputs and power switch.
Put the inputs on the back and the power switch on the front and it would be the perfect poweramp.
That's very subjective and not a big deal.
@@jobwait9437 It's actually quite a big deal. The power switch being on the back means it's hard to turn the poweramp off first like you're supposed to do, so instead you open yourself up to pops and speaker damage. Also, the inputs on the front means you have to route cables to the front of your setup from the back, which looks like trash and leads to longer setup times, longer cable runs, and is just asking to for something to snag on them. Solving these issues would make the Powerstage and industry-best poweramp.
@@TheGgreen100 As long as you know this upfront you can be careful. You're being a little to anal sir. If it sounds great, then those things are not that big of a deal
@@jobwait9437 I don't think I'm being too anal about it. And I'm definitely not the only person who thinks this. Besides, how many other rack poweramps or even rack effects have you ever seen in your life with line level inputs on the front? Because I've never seen a single other one. Know why? Because it's simply not good design.
@@TheGgreen100 I grew up in the rack era sir! Landau, Luke, Huff were all my mentors. I literally hung out out at the Baked potato. Again, this is subjective and ya losing ya cool over what you think is right. It boils down to an opinion which maybe yours and others. You've gotten too emotional. Let's build the bridge and not make a wall over this. You can have the final say so. Go ahead.😁
MC-58?
Yes, that's a custom build MC-58.
So could you plug the 2 speaker outputs on the back of this thing directly into a PA mixing board at a gig and get decent, loud sound? Or do you need to plug it into a speaker cab first to generate sound output?
For running a signal to a FOH or PA consol, you would use the XLR output. The speaker outputs are for driving a speaker cabinet, but you don't have to have a speaker cab plugged in to send signal to a mixer.
george harrison!
I grew up with a solid state amp. Cant stand them...even small ones
This is awesome! i hate digitaL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds great.
Thanks for watching!
Kinda bummed that the presence knob had to be maxed to please your ears. I’m guessing this unit doesn’t care if the cabinet is 4,8,or 16? Lots of editing and punchins on this video. Did you struggle with the unit? Oh well this piece has been on my radar to give power to my Kemper.
I would think if you're going to run it as power for your kemper, this would be less of an issue. Sorry for all of the "jump cuts". Nothing to do with the PS200.
I also would have thought 200W to be quite loud. volume knob past 3 o'clock suggests otherwise
