    Really appreciate this one, as I use some of those same pedals, and another that is very close, so this hits home for me. And must admit, for some fly-in things I do it would be a GOD send! As I Hate 'supplied' amps, and I try not to hate anything! But you get some which sound so tinny, or barely working at all, and to bring my own along would be really good. Ok SD, now I'm looking seriously at getting one!

      Sure, just disconnect combo amp from the speaker(s) ** power off! ... then plug the PS170 into the speaker(s)

    I think with a tech 21 character blond as a real preamp pedal (not an overdrive pedal as a preamp, witch sounds good also) it sounds way better than it already is in your setup. Drive the character blond (or other "real" preamp pedal with an overdrive and recerbs etc and it must be awesome. Do you have the blonde pedal? I can remember an old youtube demo from you. Was a good movie. Would be nice to hear it again with the powerstage and some pedals.
    Great review by the way:)

    I just wonder how hot this box gets when playing.. It have a small fan but it is locked so tight in that little box I bet it is getting very hot inside even with that cooling fan, and then there is a question: How long does it last before some electronics overheat. It looks like a very solid floor unit and more and more people are starting to use it.

      I've been using the PowerStage for a while now, and while it does get warm when running it for a long period (i.e. hours) I've never found it to get extremely hot. Some other small pedalboard type amps I've tried have gotten overly hot after running it for a whole gig where it was too hot to really safely touch it, but so far I've not had that issue with the PowerStage. And so far I've not had any issue with the electronics in there either, so I think the fan seems to be doing it's job well! Hope this helps, cheers.

      marcel braga if it has a cable plugging from speaker into the back of the amp, plug that cable into the Powerstage.

    Hi. Thanks for the great review.
    Have you tried Quilter Interblock 45? It would serve as a pedal platform amp as well. It's substantially lighter and more affordable. The sound quality is also very decent. I'm curious to know how it would perform against PowerStage 170.

    • @BrettKingman

    Hi so the power stage 170 would work for my vintage fender super reverb right into my cab with helix ?

  • @therealjackfisher
    @therealjackfisher 4 года назад

    Sounds nice with pedals. Very nice, but the clean sound like guitar going in to mixer. It is a true pedal amp and it need modelling, the clean sound nothing like an amp. Perfect for guitar modeling boards and pedals. Do not use this as a pure amp. Throw at least a compressor in to sound better. Whatever, clean it sound pretty bad. Use amp modellers for that clean or some sort of boost pedal because the sound is dry like sand without it. Great amp tho. I am also looking in to Harley Benton GPA-400 that have been forgotten by many. I dont know how good and usable it is on stage. So far Harley Benton stuff was a fair sound at afordable price. Their speaker cabs are some of the best in the world, and at a lower price. Harley Benton GPA-400 is for sure worth trying and comparing to all these power amps build for pedal platforms and amp modellers.

    Being that this unit is 170 watt output, how can I ensure that I wont blow my cabinet? I’m using a Harley Benton with Chinese v30s. Only 60 watt capacity.

    Why of why did SD not put a line out on this???? Total deal breaker for me. Modern line out with cab sims are very good and it would have given this soooo much more flexability.....total missed opportunity for me ....shame!

    • @djabthrash
      @djabthrash 5 лет назад +1

      Because this is made specifically to run a cab...
      You could use Two Notes CAB M in between the Powerstage 170 and your cab if you use one.
      Or if you don't use a cab, juste use a Torpedo CAB M or Mooer RADAR or user cabsim pedal.

      @@djabthrashI have Torpedo but want less "boxes" where possible. When gigging I always use the line out on my amps to foh, saves falling over mics etc etc.....I still think they missed a trick as obviously they did when they introduced a Line Out on subsequent models ;-)
