With so many preamp pedals hitting the market in the last few years, this just makes sense. Being able to throw together a 170 watt pedalboard rig as a "grab & go" is getting popular.
The comments section here is killing me! 😂😂😂😂 It IS an amp. That's it. It has a preamp built in. You plug it into a normal guitar cab... because this is literally a complete amp head in a small "pedal sized" format. It runs at multiple speaker loads. I think this concept is amazing, BTW and am looking for more companies to further refine this idea. Would be nice to have an emulated line out/ built in cab-sim for more flexibility when you don't want to bring a cab.
Anyway, the idea like this sounds interesting to me studying/working abroad since I don't have a lots of luggage space for an amp. Although I would still prefer Orange Micro series.
Not sure I see the advantage ,maybe if it had an onboard tube Screamer It'd be more convenient, then u wouldn't need the pedalboard at all. But I enjoyed seeing Andy play the SG.
QUADROGONG I think could be useful for some digital amps, like the axefx or kemper. Or maybe you could use a kingsley valve pedal as your preamp and as your poweramp the SD. Other than that I also don't see being useful
I was going to write that - judging from the very beginning - it didn't sound very 'neutral.' But, as the video progressed, along with pedals, it sounded pretty good. Maybe this would also be a nice thing to run an Atomic Amplifire or a Helix?
Does your Powerstage have a loud/hearable on low volumes Ventilator? The Powerstage works great for me, but my first one had a temporary Flanger-Effect... I send it back and my new one has a rather loud or hearable ventilator. Obviously on loud playing-volumes you dont hear it but when practicing at very low volumes its like always having an old computer running next to you. so now I dont know if my first pedal also had this hearable ventilator and i just didnt notice it or if my second one is louder then normal...
Would this work well plugged directly into the return of an effects loop? I've seen the guys on That Pedal Show talking about that using different preamp pedals.
This unit is a standalone *power amp* in in itself. By running a preamp pedal into a guitar amplifier's FX return you're effectively using just the power amp section of that amplifier. My guess is you'd fry something pretty quickly if you ran the output of this into another power section.
traveling a lot, dont wanna bring my triple rectifier on the road and my neighbors HATE when Ihave to Record stuff.. changing my analog setup for an ax8 and power stage 700, stay just with my whammy dt
What could be the reason why it doesn't work with some cabinets?? no problem with my cab at home but it didn't work with loudspeaker input of some amplifiers i used at reharsals. It happened 3 times out of 4 and I mean no sound at all! What could be the issue? :-(
I also like to use a JHS Colourbox preamp, I usually use my preamp in fx loop right after my reverb, but before my EQ pedal. So if I get a power amp pedal, that goes after my OD, but before my Mods or does it go at the very end of everything?
I know it’s been a while so you may already have the answer but, you’d run the signal similar to an amp. Compression/OD->Preamp (pedal)->post effects like delay and reverb->power amp at the very end to go direct into cabinet.
Depthsreflection I’m wondering the same thing. I have a Marshall jcm800 50 watt combo amp where the tubes are bad. I’m thinking about picking up a boss gt 1000, going into this power amp, into the cabinet. Wondering that would sound good and how a 50 watt cabinet works with a 170 watt power amp? Can you switch it to push 50 Watts in another mode, or just don’t turn it up too loud 😱
Robinson Aquino I'd like to try one but I don't think they are available where l live. :/ I use a Bluguitar Amp1 with a Headrush but these units are attractive cause they are even smaller!
Technically, this isn't a "pedal". It's a power amp. If you plug this into the front end of an amp, it will probably blow it. So, to answer your question, no.
If you're still looking for something to give a clean amp more headroom, try using a booster with a high internal voltage (more headroom). I use a Magnetic Effects Zola boost right before the input of the amp and put my drive pedals in front of it. It kind of acts like a second preamp.
170 watt power amp, huh? Does it mean it can replace actual gigging amps with preamp pedals like those from AMT, like P1, or amp-emulated distortion pedals such as Wampler Catapulp or Triple Wreck?
The concept is amazing but personally I dont think it sounded that great, with the pedals modulation ok but the clean pre amp sound was not exactly inspiring ,,
What kind of pedal is it?.. I thought it was a fuzz and they saved the best dirty look for last but what is it then if not a fuzz? And what was that fuzz you used?
It's basically a 170watt solid state power amp (with minimum eq controls) in pedal format. The point is you don't have to lug around an amp since this thing is on your pedal board and can either power a cab or be sent in FOH. It's meant to be quite neutral/clean sounding so that it can take your pedals well.
Andy helped me buy my first tube amp yeaaaars ago (an Orange Tiny Terror) just from his awesome demo and I can't thank the dude enough! Can't believe the dude is still rocking it out till now on this channel.
To be be honest it sounds like any cheap SS amp.- just very small. A BluGuitar AM1 sounds as good as many a quality tube amp and is a way more complete product.
do you have an amp1? always worried these types of amps don't have enough power for tight tones - especially low end. I generally like lots of power for that reason, not because I want to play loud necessarily. But when I do, I want the low end to still be tight.
+ZacharySArnold I'm figuring that it is louder because I have a magnum 44 and it is so insanely loud that at gigs and rehearsals without being mic'd up, I have never had it up we close to half way. This thing SHOULD be louder, I agree, but by the end of this video he's got it almost all the way up, which would be insane if it were that really that loud.
+Javier Aldan I would normally say "look man, I'm just going off the evidence in this video", but since you've asked the question I'll answer it: for example, if there are two speaker cabinets that are both rated at 100 watts, one can be louder than the other based on how much more efficient the speakers in one of them are. I freely admit I have not tried this product, but it is stupid to believe that just because one thing says it has more watts means it IS louder. The guitar world is full of gear that says stuff that isn't true. That's all.

the 200 has a cab sim, but sounds really bad
Pinkerton is such a terrific, underappreciated record.
2nd best album for sure!
Andy
Oh great, now the guitar player can turn up too loud mid song WITH HIS FOOT. Thanks a lot Seymour Duncan. Grrrrrrr ;)
LOL. We would never do that! ;)
Sounds like something my Bass player would do 😫
You’re such an excellent player. I love your right hand technique.
Well played The Good Life 🔥

Perfect for so many things.
WHEN I LOOK IN THE MIRROR, I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I SEE
Khairul Junaidi Tell me who's that funky dude staring back at me
Done With It Broken beaten down, can't even get around
a dog?
TELL ME WHO IS THAT FUNKY DUDE, STARING BACK AT ME

That SG comment though
You don't see the advantage of carrying a pedal board and small cab to a gig, no valves to replace, reliability, lightweight, easy setup? Wow.
@@officialWWM he's a tubehead so let him sink in his mediocrity

nice NOFX mood right in the beginning :)
Andy, you are the man.

This thing is pretty good.
The trebble control past 3 oclock in all the demostrations make me think that it has low level of high frequency

How does this compare to the Quilter Pro Block 200?
Could this be used as a power amp for something like a Line6 Helix or i must need the bigger version?
Yes.
170 Watts into 8 Ohms? Or is that 4 Ohms?
So with an 8-ohm it'll only give it 85W of power?
Yup. The 8-Ohm rating is 85 W.
I see Andy has joined the SG alliance. Welcome young padawan.
I'm a Strat cat but I'd prefer that mahogany stink beetle to a Tele!
Andy's no apprentice, he's a full fledged master space wizard.

What pickups are in that guitar?, They are great sounding ! :)
So if I understand, it's an amp head in pedal form?
So it seems, 1 channel clean amp.
How can you make headphones work with this unit
Interesting super-portable idea...
No built-in DI? Seems like a glaring mistake.
The bigger, more expensive version has it, plus stereo ins and outs.
No need for a built in di if the point is to go into a cab.
first song? Sounds so familiar. Is it weezer?
yep
The Good Life, from the Pinkerton album
I like the weezer
Can it use for bass too?
anybody Try any Drive----->Two Notes C.A.B + PowerStage------> Cabinet ? is the sounds will like the Two notes simulation ?
Is it a problem if my cab is only 60 watts?

also... $400!? No way.
=w=
Yes, it's very cheap!
@@officialWWM a quilter tone block 201 gives you the more for the same price

i'm glad im not the only one that goes = w=
Can i use this with valve preamp?
Yes
Sounds like a good idea
What pre-amp you atr using?
what cab is it plugged into?
Very cool. I'd be more interested in a lower wattage version of this. Looks cool though
This IS the lower wattage version. They have a rack mounted one too
I wanna go back, I wanna go back, but I don't even know how I got off the track
So correct me if I'm wrong, but will this pedal give a small combo amp more clean headroom?
Technically, this isn't a "pedal". It's a power amp. If you plug this into the front end of an amp, it will probably blow it. So, to answer your question, no.
batoli20 This IS an amp. You cannot plug this into anything other than a speaker cabinet.

Why no FX Loop?
Wait is he playing weezer
weezer 😍
What kind of pick do you use ? 😜👍🏻

in europa they got 50 cycle hum

yes
K thx
Another question tho: So, this is not just a power amp emulator but an actual power amp. Can we connect it to the cabinet and everything?
yea your signal chain would be something like Guitar > "preamp" style distortion pedal > Seymour duncan power amp > cabinet
K thx
The low end reminds me of a Diezel amp.
So I wonder what the power would be at 8 ohms?
T Dodak 85 watts

I'm still having trouble understanding what the fuck this thing is supposed to do.
It's sort of a compact amp replacement/stand-in.
Travis Powell lets check Duncan's website

VladD so is it practically a amp head?
Not really. It doesn't have a pre-amp stage. You use pedals for that.

=w=
sounds fizzy and really bad, imo
Weezer!
Or just get and Electroharmonix Magnum 44 and a boss EQ pedal and so the same thing better/cheaper/louder.
I mean, it definitely wont be louder. The magnum 44 is 44w and this is 170, so I'm not quite sure where you are figuring the magnum is louder
+ZacharySArnold I'm figuring that it is louder because I have a magnum 44 and it is so insanely loud that at gigs and rehearsals without being mic'd up, I have never had it up we close to half way. Can I use a preamp pedal before this ?
That's what it is designed for.
