I gotta say, Constellation is both a super straight forward series while also being one of the most confusing shows I’ve watched, and episode 7 just adds to the pile of… what the duck was that?
In this video we’re setting everything straight, diving into the potential idea of 3 universes, what that ending means, and where this leads into the final episode next week. So grab your tape player, because things are heating up…
Okay, so a majority of this episode is Jo and the two Alice’s confirming that yes Jo is caught up in the wrong universe and she just doesn’t belong. Something us viewers pretty clearly pieced together episodes ago, so yeah the dragged out nature of this mystery is starting to GRIND MY GEARS, but at least Jo has finally arrived to the party of knowing. Jo and Alice listen to the mysterious tapes, learning that the captured audio were the events that happened in the Red universe to the Jo that Paul unfortunately left up on the ISS.
So a quick refresher, Constellation is currently broken up into two different universes. We’re calling them the blue and red universes where these specific events have taken place. On top of these events Jo from the Red universe and Paul from the Blue universe have swapped as we learned last week. So the main crux here is Jo talking with her actual Alice via the tape player, and trying to find a way back to visit her.
Now I’m going to be a bit scatterbrained because a lot of small things are mentioned in this episode, along with the fact I’ve just been traveling and hella jet lagged so here we go. The title of this episode is “Through the Looking Glass” of which “looking glass” is an old timely term for a mirror. And Jo’s daughter is Alice, so Alice in Wonderland, but rather here it’s Alice Through the Looking-Glass, the sequel to Alice in Wonderland. Basically the two Alice’s hangout in their respective wardrobes, and talk to one another via reflections in the mirror and the tape player. A little fun fact, Red Alice wears the exact same hat Jo does in the Blue universe, because well she’s presumed dead in space and it’s a subtle way for Alice to remember her mother. Anyway Jo joins her respective Alice and is able to communicate through Alice to her original Alice.

I didn't feel its being dragged out, Jo was already aware of her situation she just wasn't willing to accept it.
I feel the show has been well paced to keep a good level of suspension whilst giving us just enough additional information each episode to clue us into what's going on.
I'm hoping the finale doesn't attempt to resolve everything, it's the mystery that keeps this show captivating.
Why is magnus dead in your blue universe illustration?
Here is was thinking you watched an episode where Magnus dies and lives in the one that I watched. Would not even surprise me.

Nah, he just assumed he had "died" due to Alice asking where he was before we found out exactly what happened.
Time is another facet that has it's tentacles at play and it's not sequential and concurrent, but fragmented and random. That would explain the cabin being both on fire and not.

Alot of times the studios will use twins with children because of child labor laws pertaining to acting. I have triplets, and when they were little, my 'twin' boys were swapped out for a local filming because each child could only act or 'work' for a certain set of hours. Something interesting I learned years ago. So yeah, I understand why they used a set of twins to play the role of Alice in the show 😊👍🏻
I saw in another breakdown, and I think time is a key factor here. I'm starting to think that we are witnessing two realities but in two different timelines. Paul arrives at Bud's apartment after 10 pm. When Henry and Bud swap places, the clock on the phone shows around 9 pm. The other theory that I saw suggests there are four universes: red 2021, red 2023, blue 2021, and blue 2023. I hope the last episode answers some questions; this show is both amazing and driving me crazy.

Why do people always get upset when things aren’t revealing fast enough? I think it’s a breath of fresh air to finally not be rushed into these puzzle pieces coming together. Unfortunately, very few enjoy character growth and a gradual plot reveal.
It's been the death of so many great shows to force answers into a show that was far better without them.
The TV series Lost comes to mind, I absolutely loved the mystery and drama but so many just wanted to know the reveal.
So more and more were added until the show didn't carry the same level of investment as it started with.
@@ObsessiveGeek yes! All of this! Yes, I agree that show was amazing but then when you take out the mystery, it’s not a special. It’s the same thing that happened with Game of Thrones! It was rushed during the end, and it was an epic failure honestly, in my opinion. there were great things about it but overall, the story was way too rushed and it just made a mess. I don’t want them to rush the answers or even get all the answers - great art is open minded and has different perceptions! I love this show and it is not what I was expecting when it comes to a space thriller! I can’t stop thinking about everything . It also reminds me of Yellowjackets with the connections and the cabin. Very cool.

Some people actually enjoy the storyline playing itself out in a timely manner. Something as important as a dead cosmonaut the way they showed it in the first 2 episodes should not take the whole season to explain its significance. We’re at the ends of the season and as cool as the scene was it didn’t give us any new information. We didn’t said the whole season just for them to confirm that it’s Irena? We knew irena and Henry knew about everything since day one and we really get nothing on that either. Episode 7 all we get is Henry and bud switching but no real storyline context about what he really knows. Magnus is still completely in the dark lol we’ve seen the mystical CAL like 5 times and nothing has spurred from that story line. like we’re at the finale and all we have is 7 episodes of vague dialogue hinting at the major story lines they’ve fore shadowed. It feels like you don’t get much from watching the show but more unanswered questions
Totally different premise but Fringe comes to mind. There was a red and blue universe in that show also.
Anyone notice that everyone from the blue Universe is kind of a jerk? Paul with his wife and daughter, Magnus not great at parenting and is more short with Blue Alice, Blue Joe that died having an affair and not getting along with Magnus - forgot the guy she was having an affair with but he’s also more aggressive in the Blue universe as well, Irene with her gaslighting, Bud - Originally from blue before swapping to red with Henry. Heck even blue Alice had her moments with her friend.
Also, the swing scene hinted at all this showing Red, Blue and Yellow colors and the tires mixing in different ways.
YEP! I’m curious if the blue universe is just naturally more aggressive or rude or mean, because a lot of them had been dealing in some immoral things like you listed.

I agree about everyone but Blue Alice. Just can't help but feel so bad for her. Seems like nobody cares about her properly. She's been really mature about everything. What she's going through is extremely traumatizing on every level.

Alice from Jo’s Timeline saw Paul preform the experiment through the iPad. I think that’s why she can see more than the rest of them.
Magnus was the only person within a few miles to “observe” Jo. We learned on the boat that if you’re the only ones around to observe something, the. The observation effect is less strong.
I probably missed that part, but do we know why Irina and Henry want to keep all that stuff a secret?

What makes this show enjoyable for me is the sorting through the puzzle pieces. I love a good mystery. Once the answers are revealed, the story of the characters would be boring. Too many shows drag on. I prefer to be told a great story, get closure, and move on to the next. Hopefully, by the finale, we'll get answers as to what happened on Irena's 1967 mission that instigated the split and how the dopplegangers interactaction with the liminal space works. The questions I need answers for most of all, the ones that I need to know and which the show has yet to begin to address: I would like to know what was known about the effects of going to space and the purpose behind providing lithium7 to one crew members of all prior missions. Were they randomly selected? Henry created the CAL experiment to capture new matter so they knew it existed previously. The crew that saw angels (probably alternate reality), the ones who came back and went crazy, killed their family (bc they weren't really them) were exposed to this matter. Perhaps a second season would delve into giving us this broader view of the other crew and the alien matter.
They aren’t doppelgängers, that’s a type of malevolent spirit creature that takes on your appearance.
There's two realities and one liminal space.
Both Alice's and Jo see different things in the liminal cabin.
Blue Alice sees a dead cat, Red Alice sees it alive. Jo sees both alive and dead as she is caught between both realities.
The paintings also change depending on who sees them.

I haven’t watched the finale yet, but I found episode 7 to be quite frustrating for all the reasons you mentioned. Additionally, all that has been set up since the beginning is this longing for Jo and her actual daughter to be actually reunited. If we don’t get that by the end of this season, I’m going to be very disappointed (and I’m worried it won’t get a season two since Apple hasn’t renewed it yet). I’m really hoping it isn’t an unsatisfying ending if this ends up a one season series.
I don’t see three universes but just two. It’s schrodingers cat which was shown when both universes combined and the cat was both alive and dead. Joe, Alice, Bud Irene and others are stuck in the box and only what is observed is relative at the time
This is a great show, so well done nicely paced. Constellation reminds me of a similar film Coherence if any ones seen it cat in the box type film if you like this show you love coherence

1- I also think that there are only 2 realities blue and red and the 3thd is more a liminal space than a proper reality where things are blue and red at the same time. Now I still wonder if this liminal box exists as an effect or a cause to things being mixed up between blue red universes...
2- Triggers to switch from universes is likely death/near death experience, but would be CAL acting like a "portal"? In such case what was the portal for Henry and Irene back in the past??
Also Henry had on the whiteboard, Stress, Trauma and Lithium 7. Stress and Trauma cause them to switch?

Same question, who,s release the dock when paul ship got stuck. And he saw jo starring at him. My theory there’s might be another jo which is connected from another reality. Probably that jo is the one who saved alice
I just have to vent. I saw this one, and - without spoiling anything - this episode almost jumps the shark. It seems padded. Walk away from the cabin. Walk back to the cabin. Walk away from the cabin. Walk back to the cabin. Walk away. Walk back. Walk away. Walk back. Away. Back Away back. Something happened I did not expect - I got _bored._ I was ahead of the characters almost from the start, and that's a very bad thing. Oh look. Dead cat meets live cat. SYMBOLISM! Get to the f**ing point, already, will ya?
Prediction (could turn out to be a spoiler, so - beware): Jo has to go back into space. She has to go back to the ISS to make things right. Somehow. Maybe she'll magically revive and be alive in both universes. Don't know about that one. Oh. And she has to take the CAL with her. Because plot symmetry. Henry/Bud? Bad Bud realized he screwed up big time. Somehow sets things right. If I had to guess, he'll sacrifice himself and that will suffice to Keep The Universe In Balance or something. I'm too invested not to watch the last episode, but unless it completely avoids the expected somehow (in a way that makes sense with this set-up), I'm prepared for disappointment.
I had a similar expereince with _Fringe_ - except I DID skip the final episode to add one more hour to my life. Still don't know how that series ended. Still don't care. Bummer.
In the timeline you show, it says Magnus is now dead. Magnus is not dead in both red and blue so I’m not sure why it’s listed like that

One thing no one has discussed (I think I have watched several videos so far) is how or why the dead cosmonaut appears to exist in both universes but Irena only in one. If Irena still lives in the Blue Universe, then how her dead body appears in both?

I didn’t think it was 3 timelines but the red and blue starting to merge together. Maybe there are details I missed that suggest a 3rd timeline? I guess the 3rd cabin would be the biggest one.

Yeah, I definitely disagree on the pacing of the show. The fact they “are spoon feeding us” while at the same time remain “extremely vague” shows that they are playing to an audience like myself who likes to play along, but doesn’t watch explanation videos after every video. I’ve loved the imagery and double perspectives on events

It’s REALLY out there
So many scenes have Jo staring around with her mouth half open, saying nothing 😮 And characters spend SO much time running around calling “Alice, Alice!” Jo is an astronaut, which means she must be highly intelligent, and yet at no point so far has she actually tried to reason out what has happened - despite her awareness of the numerous differences in her life back on Earth. UGH! She stole the CAL, but then just drops it out in the snow. Why? Don’t know. Magnus (which I’m sure Jo sometimes says as “Mangus”) running around basically doing nothing. ?? I love the setup of this story, but fear it will all run off the rails and end up like “Orphan Black”, which devolved into a ridiculously over complicated mess well before the end.
The other Alice wasn't affected by the smoke, she wasn't in the burning cabin.
at t'end all Jo's (1 thru 10+) will have to unite to save the day
There has to be a third universe because one universe Joe doesn't even make it back from space. . Basically whatever theory you come up with can be contradicted and I think they made the show that way on purpose.

Thank you. I've been watching other breakdowns of this show and the 3 or 4 or sometimes even 5 universe theories people come up with are obviously ridiculous. The show seems to have well established there are only 2 versions of each character, so I think you're right the mixed up environments are not additional universes, but rather the weird unknown states of each of the two.

The most confusing part for sure is BOTH Alice's seem to be occupying the Liminal State cabin (Purple Universe) yet do not encounter one another other than via a mirror.
The only way I can wrap my head around this is by considering that both the red and blue universe have a Liminal Place that is being connected due to all the various events in motion.
It seems Valya (Irena) is directly influencing the Liminal Place connection.
the answer is probably that there isn't "one" liminal space, but many -
or - that despite being in the same space and time, they can only interact via limited means (radio or light waves) and not in other ways - and Jo opening the cupboard "collapsed the wave function" and randomly placed her in only one of these states
@Klayhamn Yeah, it's no accident that Alice is contained in a "box" and experiencing two states simultaneously.
I suspect Jo will end up back on the ISS to re-experince events from her "dead" state. Likewise for Paul, with both helping the other escape their situation.
1st..Great breakdown!! 2nd…My only real question is about the dead cosmonaut. Since she was able to warn Alice, it makes me wonder if it’s possible that somehow she can still switch with the other Irena(sounds crazy, but that’s what this show is😂). Either way looking forward to not being in the cabin next week 🙄

Severance and Silo Both shows from Apple didn't think they've had a second season and here we are... Again.
Besides of the creepy look of Valya.. I don't know why but I think she is actually a "good person"? Like.. the Good Irene and she really want to help Red Alice to get her true (alive) mum. I could see the differences between the same characters in both realitys and blue reality has the bad persons on it. Paul is kind of an agressive dad (ep 6) and her family feels stranger about his behavior with his daughter. Blue Jo is cheating on Magnus and Alice .. well she doesn't speak Swedish, that's a boomer (?

Death is the key, it just doesn't necessarily need to occur to the person that is switched.
The dialogue she say's to Alice is only suspicious because she looks creepy af as the Valya but if you listen without looking at her, she sounds sincere. 🤷♀
