    VIDEO INFORMATION
Apple TV Plus is doing what they do best, sci-fi whackadoo multiversal shenanigans…Because Dark Matter is shaking up to be another mind-bending watch. Two Joel Edgerton’s, Lost love, and an unnecessarily large mystery box *WHATS IN THE BOX*
So buckle up, because we’re going to be analyzing everything in Dark Matter for the next 8 or so weeks. What’s the initial set up, mystery at hand, and crazy out there theories or small things we may have picked up. Now let’s slide into Dark Matter episodes 1 & 2.
Okay so the initial set up introduces us to Jason Dessan. From what we can gather, he is a former quantum mechanics physicist turned college professor, who is your stereotypical family man. Has a decent job, a beautiful wife who is the head of an art gallery, and a teenage son dealing with teenage boy things, like girls and getting his license. Through the brief introduction to Jason, it appears he is going through the motions of life, getting the idea that this reality, this clearly isn’t what he saw his ideal future to be.
He’s not the rockstar physicist his younger self saw him becoming, instead that glorious honor was bestowed on Jason's close friend, Ryan, who recently won the Pavia prize. A prestigious award in the world of quantum sciences, that comes with fame, notoriety, but most importantly cashflow baby. While celebrating together at Jason’s local watering hole, The Village Tap, Ryan discloses all of this to Jason, offering him a job to work together. To create together. Unfortunately the gig is in San Francisco, a long way away from Chicago, so Jason says he’s going to talk to his wife about it.
Now while Jason has been going through his daily routine, there’s been an ominous person following him. At bar close, Jason heads home, only to be threatened and kidnapped by this stranger, forced into a vehicle, stripped, and then put under with some sort of syringe. Here is where the series really kicks off, revealing that the ominous person tailing Jason, is in fact Jason *Jesus Christ It’s Jason* Huh? What? Excuse me?! It’s revealed that there are two Jason’s, to keep them straight I’m going to refer to them as Jason 1 and Jason 2. Jason 2, essentially kidnaps Jason 1, stealing his life, and forcing Jason 1 to go live in Jason 2’s reality. Classic Houdini.

*What did you think of the first 2 episodes of DARK MATTER? Good Series? Bad Series? Too predictable?*
I'll be covering this weekly, so SUBSCRIBE and join the conversation.

Definitely invested in the mystery of why Jason 2 has swapped lives, I'm guessing "success" has cost too much.
Dark Matter hasn't grabbed me quite the same as Constellation has.
They are a bit too many similarities, though I do appreciate seeing content with high production value.

Yes, read the book. It’s very faithful to the original material and Blake Crouch himself is writing the episodes.

Even after knowing the outcome from reading the book, I’m still mad Daniela2 was killed 😂

Sure hope you cover Outer Range as well! I don’t see S1 on your playlist, but you may have covered it under another channel. I loved your Constellation recaps and now I’m gonna enjoy Dark Matter, too!

I'm going to try! I watched season 1 but only covered it in "shorts form "on my other channel. Thanks for the kind words and enjoying the breakdowns!... the only negative is all of Outer Range season 2 is dropping at once :(

Oh, man, I didn’t know that. I figured they’d maybe drop 2 episodes at a time. I refuse to binge it all bc I want to relish in how good the show is. I’ll probably watch 1 or 2 episodes per week. I’ve been rewatching S1 as a refresher and there’s so much I totally forgot about.

I enjoyed your video and found it quite accurate. Blake Crouch is like sci fi for teenagers, I have read the book and so far it is very loyal to the material. Just a wee comment... although Constellation LOOKED more... alternative, complex, whatever, it was much more complex to figure out the same things you just figured out (red/green etc).
So far so good, much easier to catch and fun to watch.

Time dilation might actually be a thing on the show, but I think the 14 months Jason 2 was missing could be explained by time he spent finding the ideal world with the right Jason to steal his life, as well as the time he spent stalking the right Jason, understanding his life and waiting for the right opportunity. They show Jason 2 lived in some kind of storage unit....so it could have been a while

Appreciate it, because that’s what I was initially thinking, but then some of they dates were screwy, so maybe I’ve digging too deep into things

I think it’s not realistic that Jason 1 ends up in Jason 2’s version of his reality. We’ve learned in order to arrive at a point in time is to think of that time. Jason 1 has no reference to think of Jason 2’s space in time. The probability that he ends up there from the get go is minuscule, but essential to the story line. Maybe this will be addressed in the future…what exactly did he think of to get there.

there are hypothetically unlimited realities where Jason and Daniella end up together - every choice made creates another "what If" universe, so its not hard to assume that there are millions of universes that are basically the same with small minute details changed by each choice). He happened to find one and for all we know he could have scouted out a few others that werent to his liking first before settlting on this one.
