Episode 3 of Dark Matter is all about wining-and-dining, while keeping your best friend from going to pound town on your fake wife. **Well that escalated quickly
Settle in because there are some interesting wrinkles, reveals, and theories we’ve hobbled together after this third episode. Get in the box and close the door. I said close the door!
Focusing on Jason 1, he is in quite a pickle. Having just witnessed his wife in another universe be shot right in front of him, and now bound in a holding cell back at the Velocity Labs facility. Obviously it's been a rough couple of days, but Jason 1 kinda comes to the conclusion that he needs to play ball with Leighton and the others to figure out exactly what the heck is going on. Through these little interrogation scenes, we learn Jason 1 has been back for roughly 3 days now, and there were a total of 4 Velocity employees that went missing. The first was a woman by the name of Blair Caplan, which we don’t know too much about in universe 2, BUT in universe 1, she is Daneila’s good lawyer friend, who we first saw in episode 1, and is later at the dinner party Jason 2 hosts. Very interesting how all of this is like connected maaaaannn, while the other 2 missing employees are unknown at this time, we can assume they disappeared into the box device searching for both Blair and Jason.
Jason urges Leighton to help him remember, what the heck was he developing, why the secret facility, and about 23 other questions, which leads to Leighton showing him THE BOX OoooOOhhhh of which he and Velocity had been working on. In the first 2 episodes we saw glimpses of this device, but now getting up close and personal, Jason and our theories were correct, as the box is basically a scaled up version of the quantum mechanics theory of superposition and Schrodinger's cat. Sure Leighton gives a mush mouth barrage of buzz words describing it but it’s basically a box within a box. For all you geometry and Marvel nerds, it’s a tesseract. Earlier in the holding cell, there’s a painting of this same shape, with various colors, that definitely hints at the ending of this episode and where we can assume episode 4 and beyond will go.
The question is, how the heck does the box work? Sure we know it’s superposition, you shove something in the box, and voila, uhhh science I guess.

Im loving this show. Its a facinating concept. The inside of the box reminds me of ball inside the wormhole machine in contact. With alloys and a way to seal close without leaving air gaps. So in a sense the box is a quantum box kind-of like the aliens in Indiana Jones part 4, are in a quantum dimension frozen like the box but once you take the drug you can access the quantum open unfrozen state of the box, the dimensional portals like the aliens in Indiana Jones part 4 came together from a quantum state of separation. Facinating
I remember Jason 2 saying to Jason 1 to keep something specific (successful with career or something) on his mind before he blacks out from the drug. Maybe this has something to do with where the box sends you. 🤷🏽♂️
I think we’re going to see multi universes of what his life could’ve been like and different scenarios of it. I’m just so excited for the show.

Awesome review JBuck! I'm really diggin this show. Once again Apple TV has thought "Outside the Box" in creating Dark Matter. I'm hooked and it has already answered more questions than "Outer Range", sorry having a moment with that one. I agree with your theory that the wife in Universe 1 will find out however, I think the son Charlie will discover him Jason 2 first and try to convince his Mom that Dad is not Dad. Also, what do you think of this nugget of coincidence regarding Charlie. Charlie and Maximillia were in the womb (box) at the same time....One alive and One dead. BOOM, that was my mind! I also like the connection of Jasen 2 wanting the love of his life back, kind of like Wilson Fisk in Spiderverse. However, just before Jasen 2 stuck Jasen 1 in the box, he stated that he was doing this for both of us. ???? Looking forward to the next episode.
So how did a beat up jason that also felled down a whole flight of stairs, drugged, told to think about what life couldve been and then woke up opened a door in the corridor, enters and magically appear in a world where he had won the pavia award, only to not remember twisting a door knob in thay dark corridor and enter the door to pass-out outside the cube?
I just don't understand why Jason 1 didn't tell Leighton what he told Daniela and his buddy. They probably would have understood and together they could have started working on the box to go find the other Jason....And why did Leighton tell him, "I have the keys to box and i don't know how it works. Do you know how frustrating that is?", when Amanda told Jason1, while they were in the box to inject themselves and they were off....Jason 1 made things more difficult by running and not telling them what he knew and got Daniela 2 killed.

Great breakdown. I'm loving it so far.Question though, does each universe a traveller goes through have another box in that universe??Cause Jason 1 didn't build the box that Jason 2 came out of in the other universe,so how does that work?
I’m glad you asked this because I had the same question. I wonder if the box only exists in universes where it was built and developed, BUT also will exist in a inverse they travel to? Honestly it gets more confusing the more you think about it
@JBuckStudios Yeah, I agree.The box's existence violates causality since the box just spawned outta nowhere,causing some kind of bootstrap paradox.Despite that,this show is building up to be come one of my favourite scifi shows from apple after severence.

Major plot hole: The box combined with the drug is supposed to put you in a superposition state with other you's but the box at the end of episode 3 operates as a portal that has nothing to do with the other you's

At 7:02 if Jason 2 is richer than Jason 1, how is he spending his money in different universe?
He brought some along, seen in the storage unit, but it’s going to run out. Assuming Jason 1 makes average money. Which is kinda hinted at when he first talks with Ryan and is offered the job

Don't think I trust Amanda. She snitched on him before and then all of a sudden she is helping him and just happen to lead him to the box as the only way out. Don't think they had planned on fingers getting chopped off tho 😂

If they hadn’t seen the CEO, they would have made it to the lobby and escaped.
She could have just led Jason 1 straight to the box rather than running around the facility.
However, she may have any ulterior motive to find her lover, Jason2.

I don't think they're going to travel to many different universes. Remember every door that opens they have to take another shot to reactivate the box. I don't know how many shots they have available. That could also be why there's other people are stuck in different universes. Because they've got no means by which to reactivate the box
