Suicide attempts never have a good outcome and your perspective suddenly changes for the better. The Goodbye Yellow Brick Road sequence, in my POV, he was at his lowest. Deciding to ditch the industry and get help is what had the better outcome

Seeing Elton doing this and realizing how much pain he was in... this scene broke my heart and made me cry. It also made me appreciate him more as an artist and made me happy he got the help he needed. As a result of that he met his husband, kept performing and collaborating with Bernie, helped people with AIDS, and became an amazing father to his two boys.
True, but "meaty" roles like ROCKETMAN do not come around that often. I'm perplexed at Academy, since Elton has been part of "Oscars scene" for years; his Oscar night parties are legendary. You wold have thought they'd have given him SOME consideration.
Madison Square Garden: November 12, 1984. Elton sort of collapses after playing “Rocket Man”. They carry him off...administer oxygen. After a few minutes, he comes back out and keeps playing! True story: I was there. No matter how much art they put into it-they can’t match the true heart 💜 of Elton. I will never forget his courage in coming back out.
I love how even though this song was written for actual astronauts by Bernie, it fits perfectly well with the climax of the movie & Elton’s story. Metaphorically at this point in the movie and his life, Elton actually “missed the earth” cause he couldn’t relate to anyone and it was “lonely out in space” which is basically the stage - and Elton being the standalone focus there. “I think It’s gonna be a long long time” - him being alone for a long time, just as his mother mentions it to him earlier in the movie. “Not that man I think I am at home” Elton would always leave his ‘actual self’ - Reginald Dwight at home, and get him to the stage; where he would wear extravagant costumes to be Elton John, in fact Bernie also tells him to be his ‘actual self’, the only actual friend Elton had - & he was right all along. Also, Rocketman can stand for his fame and incessant hit singles at the time which meant that he was at the epitome of his career too. Y’all agree?
it’s literally been 3 months since i’ve watched this movie and i have seen it 3 times. i’m still coming back to the great bits and pieces of the songs because taron is such a good actor.
This is what acting is all about. It is not the lines, it's the performance that all actors and actresses not only to entertain, they put all their heart and soul for the role they did. Taron put a performance that was inspiring, sad, and amazing. He was Elton John. Last year had amazing performances like: Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems, and Robert Di Nio in The Irishman. This scene is so powerful and I have to say that was the best scene in the entire film. Reason because it's when Elton's life began to go out of control, and believed that there was nothing left for him, so he decided to get drugged out and kill himself by drowning in the pool, but that was when his younger self who was like his guardian angel and he told Elton that it's not time to die and do what you were born to be. And people saved Elton like it was angels bringing him back. Then the ambulance gets his stomach pumped up and takes him to Dodger stadium and backstage people dress him up while he feels dead and wasted and goes out smiling and performs. That's heartbreaking to watch for people including Elton. Taron make that scene heartbreaking and amazing. Rocketman was amazing and Taron deserved that oscar nomination and the movie should have been nominated for more categories. Other then that, Taron Edgerton was Elton John, and Rocketman was awesome. We ❤💯 you Elton.
This scene is brilliant, especially the ballet in front of the window. I’m still heart broken that Taron was snubbed at the Oscars, he deserved better.
What hits me most is the way the medical staff treat him. We have to remember this was during the 70's drug crisis, when medical world didn't know how to treat or deal with drug abuse. The actors did a great job of seeming distant to him, non welcoming.
I cried during this part. I can’t even fathom what he went through. Especially because his suicide attempt was his way of crying out for someone to help him. So glad that in the end, he got the help he really needed.
You can't really compare these two movies , BoRap was a Biopic on Freedy Mercury and Queen but this ... This is something else , the way they incorporated the songs of his into a freakin musical plus all those transition is fuckin great ! BoRap was a great movie on a genre which is already cemented by great movies before but Rocketman tried to do something really different and it fuckin succeed ! You can't really compare these two ! Only reason some people hate this movie is because the wanted a proper biopic on EJ like BoRap but i don't think EJ would like that when he's got this !
I love both Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman. Queen and Elton John are both in my top 5 favorite music. But you can't compare the two movies the are both great in how the portray Freddie and Elton
From using his song for drama school To being with him in a movie:Kingsman Then playing his song in a animated movie:sing Then Playing him in the best movie ever: Rocketman

late to the party but just saw this and good god this scene blew me away. Heartbreaking but it gets to the core themes of the movie (emotionally with Elton's self-hatred and self-destruction, and more literally with the drugs and songs both being featured) while also showing us this emotional and hurt side he isn't letting himself show and even acknowledging himself, and his beginning of a fight for his life (even if it's mostly passive except when he rips of the oxygen mask but I assume that's more to let him struggle to express himself musically than to show him trying to die), the way drugs and his unhealthy relationships (producer and his parents) have taken him away from being someone good who recognizes himself and values himself, how drugs did the same, and the way music is so important especially as an outlet for him. Then the end where he's deeply fake, seeming to feel he owes it to the public to be ok and not accept any help he needs except in private and in the most dire of circumstances where his life is entirely on the line. It's just beautiful visually and so complex beyond that (and tragic af) and I adore it. Easy to see how this song comes from the man to write Solidarity, the best ensemble number to ever bless Broadway.
Jesus Christ, so nice to see how Reid has his priorities straight in this scene. His incredible lows and his incredible highs, Elton certainly has lived life.

He did such an amazing job as Elton John. This movie really speaks to me and has opened my eyes to a lot of things in my own life. Elton John we love you ❤️💙❤️
I think it's kinda cool how they depicted his performances like he's not even present. All of it is just fantastical blur and the only real moments where he actually knew what was happening were in the plane and in the pool. The movie seamlessly transitions between both worlds and the plane specifically felt like a whimsical shot until it cuts to him actually being in the plane smoking weed and you realize that plane was real.
@@traydaniel0403 I understand he went through a lot but there's nothing inherently about that smile that comes across a sad to me. That could just be me though so who knows.
I'm a Queen fan all the way, but I have to admit, because of scenes like this, Rocketman was a way better movie than Bohemian Rhapsody. They were both biopocs, but where BR was a straight biopic, Rocketman told it like a musical, using Elton's songs to convey the mood of each scene. Rocketman was so much better in many ways and yet, received little to no Oscar attention. I just don't understand. Anyway, love Elton, Taron, Bernie and Rocketman so much, they did an amazing job ❤

He did such an amazing job as Elton John. This movie really speaks to me and has opened my eyes to a lot of things in my own life. Elton John we love you ❤️💙❤️
I can't even began to tell u the amount of times I cried during this movie! It literally broke my heart...
I keep watching this over and over again
This is definitely the best scene of the movie. Music, acting, feelings,… all are excellent in this.
I love Elton and Freddie so much I can't even explain...
A interesting things happens at 2:44 Elton’s (Taron) gap disappears and I think it was intentional to show that Elton is fantasizing
And i think it's gonna be a long long time
RIO till touchdown brings me around again to find
@@MagzBoong i'm not the man they think i am at home.. oh no no no
RIO I’m a rocket man!
Kobe Crawford what’s the gap
Watched it a few times..amazing sequence of scenes to connect the different parts of his life with a bit of fantasy and showmanship thrown in...
This scene is so haunting. Just gorgeous.
Can't watch this movie without crying. Runs so deep. Love him.
Him smiling at every stage... He at least loved his fans, he didn't want to dissapoint them.
3:34 That smile broke my heart inside...
Why is that?
@@bigkmoviesandgames Why? Because after all he had gone through
@@traydaniel0403 I understand he went through a lot but there's nothing inherently about that smile that comes across a sad to me. That could just be me though so who knows.
I've always loved this song but after this movie I have a whole new appreciation for it!
I never noticed his mom has screaming a crying “ my baby” when he was getting wheeled into the ambulance.
So she did love him after all
@Eggsy oh yeah could be that too
@Eggsy
Meh... I think most mothers would be worried if their child did that. Even elton’s mom
One of the most powerful scenes of this movie. Followed closely by the little Elton at the end.
This gave me goosebumps
Drinx this whole movie made me reflect my whole life
3:47 Oh, so when Elton stands on a piano with a baseball bat it’s ok but when I do it I’m told to “get the f**k out of the store”

Moto Moto lmao thank you your godliness
I'm a Queen fan all the way, but I have to admit, because of scenes like this, Rocketman was a way better movie than Bohemian Rhapsody. They were both biopocs, but where BR was a straight biopic, Rocketman told it like a musical, using Elton's songs to convey the mood of each scene. Rocketman was so much better in many ways and yet, received little to no Oscar attention. I just don't understand. Anyway, love Elton, Taron, Bernie and Rocketman so much, they did an amazing job ❤
This scene was amazing
I wish this version was on spotify. With the little boy and also the piano coming in loudly.
What makes music great imo are the subtle hums and bells that fit the beat
4:32 when you realize Elton John is actually Iron Man...
He's not Iron Man, he's Rocket Man
So refreshing to hear new versions of the songs, unlike the Queen movie.
Because I'm morbid, allow me to give you all a poem

LOL
I cried in the theater even though I knew what was coming. Huge Elton fan.
If Taron doesn’t get an Oscar for this, we ride at dawn.
Damn right..
No, Phoenix deserved
Nominations out. Taron got nothing.
If taron doesn't get an Oscar I'll screamed
@@thebillsierraoscarclub Over Joaquin Phoenix? HELL NOOO
Can’t even lie I cried at this scene
Nobodies talking about these incredible under water effects
Those aren’t effects, they filmed the scene underwater.
Ben Ransley the kid was greenscreened however
Taron absolutely crushed his role, if Rami can win an Oscar Taron deserves a nomination.
he won the golden globe for his performance, I don't think he was nominated unfortunately, but yeah his performance was amazing.
When bernie showed up I literally started crying i cant
I love this scene so much it was really well done and this movie deserves an Oscar 🤍xx
Oscar nominations out; nothing for ROCKETMAN.
One scene shows all meaning of musicians of those time
This scene. Is A Fucking Masterpiece.
This whole movie is. Damn. I have no words to do it justice.
I think that was Elton's true Imaginations when the young of Him playing small piano on space suit underwater, and shooting in the sky as a rocket.
What an amazing and heart touching movie. Of course i knew elton before but now i am developing into an actual big fan
from a innocent child to a gay super music lord . respect it
His incredible lows and his incredible highs, Elton certainly has lived life.
I can't stop watching this scene because it is very exciting. That song had never heard. What I had heard before launching was Bohemian Rhapsody.
This man should have won an oscar
I was traveling every week when I first saw this movie. Initially I was going to turn it off. Once I saw this scene I was hooked, and watched this movie multiple times. Taron was robbed. Excellent movie. Very creative...probably my favorite to watch now.
