This is my favorite scene in the movie. Mainly because it shows the partnership and brotherly bond that Bernie and Elton have. The smile on Bernie's face when he sees and hears Elton bringing the song to life is so genuine. Great acting by Jamie Bell and Taron Egerton. They had very good chemistry in that film.

I love EVERYTHING about this scene. From the way it starts, Elton working the melody out and then when you hear him start to perform "You Song" you know that's it and ge found all the way through to end where its him recording it. And u hear at the same time Bernie hears and Eltons basically then preforming to Bernie and the Audience the way he looks in the camera
This scene is a one of a kind look in to Elton's song writing and performing abilities. Throughout the entire song, he realizes where every word of the lyrics are coming from, but most noticeably at 2:56. This song is my favorite song, without a doubt.
It was criminal that Taron didn't receive at least an Oscar nomination as Elton John. Especially when you consider that he received nominations from BAFTA and SAG and won a Golden Globe, as well as a Satellite. He nails Elton's phrasing on the songs, sings them beautifully and perfectly, and also Elton's performance facial expressions, his walk and his run, and all along he's convincingly dramatic and authentically comedic
I feel this scene and the scene at the breakfast table which he tells hi wife sorry are worthy of Oscar Nom.He coverd his face and he's fighting back tears...like he really remorseful

Also the eligible period for the 2019 Oscars ended on NYE of 2018 which is a five months difference so it stood no chance to begin with for that specific year for the Oscars since it was not eligible. This movie happened during the eligible period for the 2020 Oscars. When it got released has nothing to do how a movie gets nominated.
I'm glad Elton had the support of his nan. Can't get over the acting and singing in this film, just so incredible. Yes, it did deserve an award..... He sings all the songs and inhabited the character with his soul. An incredibly talented actor!!!!

This is not just a biopic about Elton. It's a platonic love story between Elton and Bernie -- which is amazing in and of itself, given how much societal stigma there is against straight men being close friends with gay men. AH I love this movie so much. I forgot how good it is. I'm legit tearing up from this scene alone.
The platonic love story is also brilliant because the movie is structured as a musical wherein Elton’s motivation is to find love, and be loved. He spends the whole movie searching for love from his parents who withheld it, and later his abusive, narcissist boyfriend. But at the end, he finds long lasting, unconditional love with the best friend who gave it to him instantly and never gave up on him

Hearing Elton John play this as the second to last song on the Farewell YBR tour was some of the most incredible 4 minutes of my life. Just sat there and cried. What an incredible man and musician. He’s touched the hearts of millions throughout his career, and we can’t thank him enough
According to an interview with Bernie Taupin, Elton's grandmother wasn't really there when they began working out the song. It was added with editorial license, but whichever writer or director thought it would be a good idea to add her was spot on. It was a very brief, but touching scene in the movie. Well done.
I watched this movie by myself on a spontaneous impulse when it came out in The Netherlands and I was gripped from the beginning. It's such a great and original biopic and I teared up a couple of times. This scene was one of them and watching it now, it caught me again. Such a great song! ❤
This is why Nan is my favorite character in the whole movie. She is genuinely there for Elton and loves him dearly. She's proud of him, pushes him to go for his dreams, and doesn't have conditions on her love for him ❤️ 💙 💕 We all need and deserve a "Nan"!

What gets me is he didn’t write this song his mate Bernie wrote it, & for Elton to be able to sing & play it exactly how it must’ve sounded in Bernie’s head is amazing. The commentary on his mother is astounding. Watch just her compared to the other characters. In every scene someone is moving, emoting, engaging. Nonstop energy. She’s still from open to close and never emotes. His grandmother was so warm while she sat down smiling. His mom didn’t even close the magazine. No smile. Nothing.
This song and Tiny dancer take me back to my teenage years....at the drop of the first note....music was so real and so much a part of our lives in those days. Hard to explain to my kids.
Even after all these years the song still gives me chills, I have been so lucky to be a teenager which all this incredible music was the norm.....today there is nothing that comes close to what we had back then
Honestly I am not an Elton John fan. But this movie wad incredible as was Taron Edgertons performance. He deserves an Oscar for this more then Rami Malek did as Freddie Mercury.
When it comes to truly great music, time stops the moment it is born. Time has also stood still for the songs we recorded. Elton's troubled life. The sadness experienced by a genius. However the listener can sometimes gain courage to live by encountering the song. Thank you so much Elton John.
Maybe it’s been said but this really feels like real Elton told the story of how this song came to be, it feels like he would remember vividly how there was egg on the paper, his mom’s complaints and Bernie going to shave and them incorporating those details into the movie. I think you’d remember creating one of the greatest songs ever, y’know? At least I’d like to think what’s happening here :-)
To me, this snippet is about Bernie more than Elton. Imagine writing a few rhymes and the joy of hearing them come to life in a melody. The emotional investment and satisfaction in that had to have been amazing.

What I love about Elton & this song is I can actually feel how wonderful his life was bc of someone else being in his world.
The line "How wonderful life is while you're in the world" really resonated with me after my youngest nephew was born.

The commentary on his mother is astounding. Watch just her compared to the other characters. In every scene someone is moving, emoting, engaging. Nonstop energy. She’s still from open to close and never emotes. His grandmother was so warm while she sat down smiling. His mom didn’t even close the magazine. No smile. Nothing.
The actress who played his grandma expressed so much in a few seconds, without any words.
This song and Tiny dancer take me back to my teenage years....at the drop of the first note....music was so real and so much a part of our lives in those days. Hard to explain to my kids.

Honestly I am not an Elton John fan. But this movie wad incredible as was Taron Edgertons performance. He deserves an Oscar for this more then Rami Malek did as Freddie Mercury.

Maybe it’s been said but this really feels like real Elton told the story of how this song came to be, it feels like he would remember vividly how there was egg on the paper, his mom’s complaints and Bernie going to shave and them incorporating those details into the movie. I think you’d remember creating one of the greatest songs ever, y’know? At least I’d like to think what’s happening here :-)

To me, this snippet is about Bernie more than Elton. Imagine writing a few rhymes and the joy of hearing them come to life in a melody. The emotional investment and satisfaction in that had to have been amazing.
