    This is my favorite scene in the movie. Mainly because it shows the partnership and brotherly bond that Bernie and Elton have. The smile on Bernie's face when he sees and hears Elton bringing the song to life is so genuine. Great acting by Jamie Bell and Taron Egerton. They had very good chemistry in that film.

    It was criminal that Taron didn't receive at least an Oscar nomination as Elton John. Especially when you consider that he received nominations from BAFTA and SAG and won a Golden Globe, as well as a Satellite. He nails Elton's phrasing on the songs, sings them beautifully and perfectly, and also Elton's performance facial expressions, his walk and his run, and all along he's convincingly dramatic and authentically comedic

    This is not just a biopic about Elton. It's a platonic love story between Elton and Bernie -- which is amazing in and of itself, given how much societal stigma there is against straight men being close friends with gay men. AH I love this movie so much. I forgot how good it is. I'm legit tearing up from this scene alone.

    • @alexanderthegreat1270
      @alexanderthegreat1270 Год назад +27

      The platonic love story is also brilliant because the movie is structured as a musical wherein Elton’s motivation is to find love, and be loved.
      He spends the whole movie searching for love from his parents who withheld it, and later his abusive, narcissist boyfriend.
      But at the end, he finds long lasting, unconditional love with the best friend who gave it to him instantly and never gave up on him

      @@lipby it doesn’t matter here, but you usually use the article ‘a’ before a noun beginning with a consonant instead of ‘an’. But, as you say, ‘it doesn’t matter’. Not quite sure why I picked you up on it now…seems extremely pedantic…

    The commentary on his mother is astounding. Watch just her compared to the other characters. In every scene someone is moving, emoting, engaging. Nonstop energy. She’s still from open to close and never emotes. His grandmother was so warm while she sat down smiling. His mom didn’t even close the magazine. No smile. Nothing.

    Time has also stood still for the songs we recorded.

    Maybe it’s been said but this really feels like real Elton told the story of how this song came to be, it feels like he would remember vividly how there was egg on the paper, his mom’s complaints and Bernie going to shave and them incorporating those details into the movie. I think you’d remember creating one of the greatest songs ever, y’know? At least I’d like to think what’s happening here :-)
