And do you see the 6F at the top right of the screen? Instead of being the acronym of "Sixth Floor" it should the times that Johnny said the "f" word, XD.
One thing I love about this game is using the Net to capture a bee in a Bottle. Later I release it so it attacks all enemies on screen. There is also a White Bee, which is unique and only appears once in an ice cave.
I recently started watching these videos, and something i've started to notice is, almost every time Johnny says anything about and enemy being easy to beat or to dodge, it shows a clip of him getting hit. i just find that funny.
Of course you might be right, but that's what I thought _as a kid_. I thought that the links, zeldas and ganons in every Zelda couldn't be the exact same person. I didn't know to think about recurring incarnations and parallel timelines back then. :D
Moshugaani but that timeline was probably when OOT was developed. all we had was LTTP AST- LOZ - ZII: AOL so before OOT the Zelda series was on the "Downfall" timeline which I suspect was Miyamoto's "original" timeline Link dying from fighting with Ganon was just a good "measure" sealing war - LTTP- BS Zelda: AST - LOZ - Zelda II: AOL was timeline 0, Ocarina of Time was "chronologically" first game... but it might have been a "child" "adult" time line. originally or an alternate universe.
I was confused by the Zelda timeline, but not because of the Multiverse elements (which I don't find confusing). It was the fact there were two timelines after link wins in OOT. I now perfectly understand and comprehend the Zelda timeline.
Nearly 10 myself. Came in for his sonic 06 review. And he's become my fav videogame reviewer because of it. As well as being my entry point to a fuck ton of other channels i love, like SGB, BSC, AntDude, GameXplain,
Okay, I need to ask. When people first saw Agahnim, did they see his crown/circlet as his actual face, the the ruby in the center being his open mouth and the top of his robe was actually green hair that was shadowing his eyes? The actual eyes were just the shadows around his neck to me.
This was the Zelda game I first played and grew up with as a little kid. I remember watching my older brother and my aunt play through the whole game, and I just learned everything from them.
I remember getting this when I was 12 and not using a strategy guide...I was lost for nights on end on how to advance once I got hook shot. Blindly throwing it to cross to the other side of the Dark World that I couldn't access before still ranks as one of the most satisfying moments of my gaming life.
“After you pull the master sword, jerry teleports Princess Zelda into the Dark World” WTF JERRY?! Not cool! A man’s garage is his castle! (Sorry, I had to. It’s the first thing I think of when I hear “Jerry”)
This is 11 years old and ive never come across any of your videos. Wtf yt? This is my fav game of all time especially because of the nostalgia, but i just played Super Metroid a few years ago and that is totally #2 best Snes games, regardless of the nostalgia factor. So, in short, good is good, and this game is good af. I have been playing the randomizer for years, it never gets old with rando. Especially crosskeys format.
Ive been watching alot of these videos and i have to say im really enjoying them, i don't really play alot of older zelda games ( i know shame on me ) but the way you review them always makes me interested. Keep up the good quality :D
I find this game, while still good, actually didn't age entirely gracefully. Compared to later Zelda games - which have a clearer idea on whether they want to be a linear story (Twilight Princess) or a wide-open adventure (Breath of the Wild) - A Link to the Past tries to blend a linear story with open game design, but ends up not putting _quite enough_ focus on either side. Hence why I feel it's _clearly_ outdone by some later games - very specifically and directly so by A Link Between Worlds.
Didnt age gracefully? Are you kidding??? Its from 1992, tell me one single game that has aged better than this. Ocarina of time for example has aged awfully bad compared to this. This feels nice to play still today, and the graphics still look nice aswell even though the resolution is something like 640x480, which is an incredible feat
@@nixxxon18 It's simply the game's structure that is a halfway compromise between linearity and openness. They didn't know yet how to fully embrace either side - simply because A Link to the Past isn't the _culmination_ of Zelda design, it's the _foundation_ for it. I see it in the same light as Super Mario 64 - an immensely important game that set the ground rules for ages to come, but _absolutely naturally and expectedly_ didn't perfect its craft yet and has been outdone since.
@@AniGaAG being more or less open or more or less linear is not that important to determine how good a game is. And as you said it is somewhere in between, I think its perfect as it is. It is neither too simple not too complicated, I think it IS the culmination of zelda core design, most modern zeldas are based on it, just with different variations
Okay, this game is my favorite Nintendo game, no joke. I still choke up at the end theme. And once upon a time, that very last scene before the credits meant something, goddammit.
2:00 has Link always been shorter than Zelda? I mean it could just be the angle of the picture but I remember Toon Link being shorter than Toon Zelda and Link from a Link Between Worlds was definitely shorter than Zelda.
+Mario_MarioPlushGUY to me it's at the bottom of the list, the dodging mechanics are bad and the bosses are frustrating, although the dungeons are good.
I have a really nagging question. At 6:02, there's that bomb-able wall that you see when you rescue Princess Zelda. But at that point, you don't have the bombs yet. And once you leave, you can't go back in. Is the only possible way in is to glitch? Or is there bombs hidden somewhere? Or is there some way to go back later?
THANK YOU! I just don't understand why this is SO hard for some people. I think in recent years our general comprehension of language has gotten embarrassingly low. People see more than four letters in a row and say "Fuk dis! Reeding iz teh GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111ONEONEONE" It's just not good. The rest of the world laughs at us for not being able to read and speak our own language. That's just sad.
Guys, if you can pronounce Tchaikovsky and Dostoevsky, Agahnim isn't that hard. Like, you've watched Aladdin, right? It's not that different from Agrabah.
Nice video. I'm glad you continued to make reviews and whatnot after all of these years. It's all great stuff. 0:53 Oh my goodness you have that old Seagate hard drive from 2009!
TallManVanitas nowhere near as bad as the Completionist with "actually", especially in earlier episodes. "But there's actually more, if you actually manage to beat the secret boss, you actually get a weapon that can actually kill every enemy in one hit. I really like this and I actually think it's one of the coolest weapons".
Johnny may have forgot to mention that fact, but I know what you're talking about. The GBA port had two rooms in the Ice Palace changed so players wouldn't have to run that loop just to get a block down to a lower floor to push onto the switch. That was a relief for me.
Johnny, several of your reviews and LPs make me want to play a game you have discussed. You got me interested in the Castlevania series (the old school ones anyway), helped me realize that Sonic 06 is a "So Bad, It's Good" game, and made me want to play A Link to the Past.

You should give it another chance: it has the most dungeons, tons of items, and is pretty balanced in terms of difficulty. Just try going in with an open mind. :)
OMGG GGG ALttP was the very first Zelda game I ever played, it practically started the Zelda formula and set up the backstory of Ganon the Sacred Realm/Golden Land and the Master sword which future Zelda games added on. No one can deny its influence regardless of their personal opinions of it.
I was an 80s kid and grew up with the nes, and surprisingly going back and picking up retro games I've found that I played most of the nes library thanks to places like superstar, Hollywood and mr video. After the nes I moved onto the master system, then sega Genesis and stuck with sony ever since. The Wii U reintroduced me to Nintendo and now I have been picking up most of their systems andgames that I missed, thanks to some awesome retro game stores in my area. My stepbrother had an snes when it released but I largely ignored it. I've been playing the snes for the past month and I have to admit that I missed out on a lot. The legend of Zelda is still my favorite in the franchise probably because of nostalgia but getting an snes in 2017 and playing through its library for the first time takes me back to the 90s. I was going to buy a one x but decided on an snes and nes instead. You never can go wrong with the originals.
Ah, A Link to the Past! This is where the Zelda franchise got good since the last two console games were SO bad! And now I shall proudly be killed by everyone! Thank you and good night! :D
pokeplayerHQ LttP and Link Between Worlds are the two best Zelda games ever. I got Ocarina in 1998 and it never grabbed me... For me, OoT will always be overrated.
12:11 THANK YOU!!! I just played this game on the switch online and that room SUCKS!!! 😡😡😡 That being said, this game is great. I’d love to see it get a full, modern remake similar to what they’re doing with Links Awakening. The games aged a bit in certain aspects, but with some modern touch ups it could be spectacular
great review as always Johnny! As far as Link to the Past goes, it's my personal 3rd favorite of the series, sometimes the difficulty can be a pain if only due to the damage output of the enemies and I constantly got lost, but it's unquestionable I had a lot of fun with the game, I'd certainly love to see more games of the series with hidden items that make you want to explore every place in the map instead of just searching for heart pieces
The game design in this game is SOOO GOOD! The dungeons are brilliant, and don't go on for too long like Twilight Princess' do, the overworld was SO well crafted, there was so much to do, the music was bad-ass, the items are brilliant, the bosses were epic, the NPCs were alive, and there's SOO many little things put into this game that just make it that much better... So why is it that I have such a hard time liking this game?!
THAT'S how I love my games. Freedom of exploration BUT with the MAIN goal clearly shown in case I have less time to play or I just want to progress in the story. ALttP onwards do that perfectly. Zelda 1 and Metroid before Fusion/Prime...I'd rather stay away from those.
I think link to the past is incredibly overrated, it can be really boring for me and I just can not understand why it's so many people's favorite when there are so many better games in the series
because you were alone in the adventure, you discover things on your own, and from being an child to be the hyrule heroe felt so good. This is my favorate zelda game because it had no bullshit fairy telling you what to do. You could choose what dungeon to do in diferent order, it got an kickass music, and most important the gameplay is a masterpiece.Dont get me wrong, other zelda games are cool, but dont age well as A link to the past does.
Hey zelda fans have a question so the Gannon from the first 3 looks the same but the one from smash bros look completely diff is it not the same one ? Or is there Story it or just the upgrade in graphics ? Thanks in advance
Cristian Gomez the Ganon in smash Bros is based off his appearance in Ocarina Of Time and Twilight Princess where that version is a more humanoid version of Ganon
@@WardenKaz oh okay because somebody said there 2 Gannon so was confused last question sry lol but they said zelda from link 2 is diff ? Are there diff links as well ? Seems confusing
15:34 EVERYBODY i knew had that for their GameBoy Advance. Side Note: I prefer the wide to the SP because it is hella more comfortable, despite the lack of backlight.
Took me years to figure out how to expand the bomb and arrow capacities. Turns out the "Pond of Happiness" can allow for those expansions, at the cost of 100 Rupees a pop. Max you can go for is 50 bombs and 70 arrows.
10:19 This is such a cool idea that I feel the game kinda fumbled. The first half of the game teaches you that, even tho the dungeons are all shown on the map with no numbers, you have to do them in a certain order. So, when I first got to the Dark World, seeing the dungeons labeled by numbers naturally made me think that order was required too. It's not a huge flaw, it makes it like a bonus for people who try to break the order, but I think it could be a more defining aspect of the game if it was telegraphed better.
I remember renting this game when i was a kid cuz none of my friends had n i couldn't afford to buy it. I played it a lot but never got enough time with it in my hands to beat it... I revived my SNES and i was looking for games to buy and thank god, this game came to mind quickly so it will be in my first batch of cartridges to purchase that i still don't own ^^
Regardless of what the majority think is canonical, having played Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link today, I would consider A Link to the Past/Triforce of the Gods to be the *first proper full-fledged Zelda game*. The first two feel like prototypes, guide games, Miyamoto himself honestly didn't know which direction to go in in terms of story or game-play (until Nintendo told him), and they are almost unplayable today. A Link to the Past is a classic and the template for the entire series.
Link's epic rivals:
Ganon, the classic, overpowered hog.
Majora, the demon
The MOON, The Moon
Dark Link, the shadow
Jerry, the Jerry.
Articuno Forever but isn't Jerry just Ganon in disguise?
***** No. Jerry is Jerry. No more, no less...
***** That's what Johnny called Agahnim since he didn't know how to properly pronounce the name.

Kind of a weird sound to substitute in
While I can’t call this my favorite Zelda game, I still consider it good and can definitely see why other people love it so much.
Ah, A Link to the Past! This is where the Zelda franchise got good since the last two console games were SO bad!
And now I shall proudly be killed by everyone! Thank you and good night! :D
pokeplayerHQ *Sharpens knife* I ... kinda agree with you *starts chopping carrots*
pokeplayerHQ eh there ok at beast
They were good for its time besides the second one. They can not compare to a link to the past.
Phantom Sly fav. Zelda game?
pokeplayerHQ LttP and Link Between Worlds are the two best Zelda games ever. I got Ocarina in 1998 and it never grabbed me... For me, OoT will always be overrated.
12:11 THANK YOU!!! I just played this game on the switch online and that room SUCKS!!! 😡😡😡
That being said, this game is great. I’d love to see it get a full, modern remake similar to what they’re doing with Links Awakening. The games aged a bit in certain aspects, but with some modern touch ups it could be spectacular
I'm here from the distant Future of 2016!
To tell you this game is STILL the best Zelda game ever made, period!
I also come from 2016!
To tell you that Twilight Princess is STILL better!
the anniversary of sonic... is it good
Wind Waker
DooM 2016
skyward sword is best
great review as always Johnny!
Ding dong your opinion is wrong
TheNerdyGinger
Preference
TheNerdyGinger I dont like it so its overrated...
TheNerdyGinger FINALLY someone else who thinks this game is overrated
This game is such a Binding of Isaac ripoff it's not even funny.
this was made in 1991 and binding of Isaac much later so which actually is the ripoff
Gr8 b8 m8, I r8 8/8
Should I take this comment seriously?
KidSnivy69 i wish this is a troll
Aw hell naw, you're kidding. You're being sarcastic, no doubt about it.
Old school gems deserve their time in the spotlight and deserve extensive reviews.
Good stuff.
If you have no bombs and have the Pegasus boots, you can run into the cracked walls and open that way.
15:34 EVERYBODY i knew had that for their GameBoy Advance.
Side Note: I prefer the wide to the SP because it is hella more comfortable, despite the lack of backlight.
7.19 mark. Just hold sword out in charge up mode and guy will walk into it, you'll bounce back but not off the edge. Easiest boss ever
Haha your review made me laugh many times I've played this game many times but I had to sit through it just to hear your commentary haha
that Japanese commercial always makes me think of Michel Jackson
It is kind of like Thriller.
i think the "future timeline" that leads into windwaker is where the timeline officially split majora's mask is the linear timeline
I remember watching and waiting for his next episodes for his original Zelda marathon. I am surprised it was 8 years ago.
Johnny, I've really grown to love your videos. Ever since your first Month of Sonic you've been one of my favorite game reviewers.
Took me years to figure out how to expand the bomb and arrow capacities. Turns out the "Pond of Happiness" can allow for those expansions, at the cost of 100 Rupees a pop. Max you can go for is 50 bombs and 70 arrows.
This was dope. Best review on this game. You even know about the fire sword. And did you catch one of Jerry's power balls with a net?
happy 30th anniversary the legend of zelda a link to the past!!! :3
I actually love the Ice Temple. I have fond memories of it somehow!
Okay...that commercial at the end looked as if the game and the Thriller had a baby. Other than that awesome review, looking foreword to more!
Johnny, I love your videos. I find myself re-watching them just because they are so good.
Can we all just admire the artistic jump and graphical improvement of this from the nes games.
I remember renting this game when i was a kid cuz none of my friends had n i couldn't afford to buy it. I played it a lot but never got enough time with it in my hands to beat it... I revived my SNES and i was looking for games to buy and thank god, this game came to mind quickly so it will be in my first batch of cartridges to purchase that i still don't own ^^
Got lots of fond memories playing this game. I really need to play it again. It's been too long...
No joke, i would do anything to hang out with / share a joint with SomeCallMeJohnny
