This was actually super helpful and gave me some hope at acheiving a great sound without spending a trillion dollars on external plug ins haha. Keep it coming man, loving your channel!
Forest....you are the MAN! Where the heck have you been all this time? I've wasted years of my life watching RUclips videos on Logic, mixing, mastering, and music production, trying to find someone like you! Instant subscriber.
This is excellent! I'm so glad I came across your channel. It's a shame you don't have more views/subscribers. I'm the only producer/mixer in my sphere of influence, but if the opportunity arises, I'll be sure to recommend you to others.
Look, I know that this video is about making pro vocals with stock plugins but I have to say that I love the color that Roland dimension d put on that double. And....I enjoyed the rest of the video as well, even though I’m a Cubase user mainly these days.
Brother Forest you are doing us Home producers proper. The kinds of things we all search for and for whatever reason struggle to find. Thank you - Subscription Earned! One Question on the waveforms of the regions on the vocal tracks in this session: Is your waveform zoom turned up quite a bit on those vocal tracks, are the regions gained up pretty heavily, or were the audio files/recordings just already that hot? ...Or some other reason the wave forms are so huge on those regions compared to others in the session...?
This is a fantastic tutorial, exactly what I was looking for. One question I had was Do you pitch correct vocal doubles the same as the lead vocal or vary the amount of correction? Thanks Forest
Great stuff. I've watched most of your videos already and will probably finish off your channel very soon. They're very educational. You opened my eyes, and ears, to some great production techniques. I've learned so much from you already. If I could make one small suggestion for future videos (it's not a complaint, just a thought).... When you're doing A/B comparisons of an effect or processor, I think it would be better if you zoomed in on the bypass option so viewers could easily see when you turn it on and off rather than pausing the song, turning it on or off, then playing the song. That short break where you're saying "with it" or "without it" is a little jarring and makes it more difficult to clearly hear what the effect or processor is doing, especially when it is a subtle change. So maybe just letting it play through uninterrupted and zooming in on the bypass button would help us hear it even better? Like I mentioned, it's just a thought and not a complaint. Love what you're doing and looking forward to more videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
@@forestwhitehead You're videos are so helpful. One of the coolest things I learned from you is how every instrument doesn't have to be playing constantly. I don't need the piano playing chords, a guitar constantly strumming etc to fill out the song - it's a record, not a bar band :) Little licks here and there, properly placed, add so much more to the song's dynamics without the need to be playing each instrument all the time. Once I started doing that, my productions instantly improved and became "bigger" yet less cluttered. So thank you for that and all the other tips and tricks I learned from you.
@@forestwhitehead - Yes I am on your email list. I like your analogy about hard work being like a cold beer after cutting the grass on a hot day, and the pride of accomplishing something hard. Well said.
Are both of those compressors on your vocal buss at 100% mix, or are you doing any parallel compression? Sorry, it was kinda hard to tell where the mix knobs were. That vocal sounds INCREDIBLE!
How have I only just found your channel? Your content is so informative, it’s helped me loads recently. Thank you!
Gold in 15 minutes!🥇

@@forestwhitehead hey love the video you done but could you do a hip hop rap song after please? And maybe some presets or templates?

@@KennCrawford Are you the email list? You should be! Tons of more content there.
It took me YEARS to learn to lonly add the instruments where i heard them instead of top to bottom.

Great video
What is this song?? So good!
Super helpful!! Also what song is this? God that snare just smacks lol 🔥
What a great video Man... question though... do you not get rid of any bad frequencies in the vocal? Ie boomy boxy etc
I do as needed yes! I was trying to keep it simple here!
@@forestwhitehead that's fair. Thx for your reply mate 👍🙏
Did anybody else hear the vocalist say “Cryde” instead of “Clyde” lol

No parallel on this mix! Kept it simple with stock plugs!
@@forestwhitehead thanks so much for taking time to respond!
@@lawsonbeasley8085 only took 2 weeks! Ill try to be better about it.
Yeah, those where the good times, when you where still using Logic.
Was there a lot of compression done on the vocals when they were initially recorded? Thx
