For people who would be comparing and complaining non-stop over and over again, both Foy and Colman are really good (in their best forms even)-one as a young queen during her coming of age years and one as a settled sovereign during her middle age years. The acting and mannerisms are always and still there. They were never gone when Olivia Colman took over, even better portrayed with age. The voice and rate at which they speak may differ at times because they're two different actors, but the intonation and style are fairly quite the same. If you actually read some related material and watch some clips of the Queen during the era Colman plays the role, you'll realize how she nails it. If Colman is doing anything with her interpretation of the Queen, it is one that is grounded in history and reality. Moreover, a big factor why Claire Foy's Queen is so convincing is that there is limited reading and visual material during the era Foy plays the Queen to base it on or compare it with, but Foy's acting is just impeccable and top-notch. Both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman are outstanding in their portrayals. If there is actually a preference, it would be between a young Queen (as portrayed in the show) or a middle-aged Queen.
I agree, that there is less visual material, so Claire may seem more convincing, but... Olivia Colman made the Queen look much older, than she was, not mentioning the rest.
@@KK-gn8nm that’s because each season spans almost decade or even more than a decade. And by the end of season 4, the Queen was around 64 years old. We’re not talking merely about the looks. It’s the acting that is more essential and they absolutely nailed it.
Not denying they're both fine actors, but it greatly helped them that they had some absolutely marvellous dialogue to deliver. It's the script that is the real star of this series.

1:22 How good is Olivia in this section when curtailing her companion's descriptive offerings? The tone of voice, the timing of delivery, the facial expressions and body language...
Let's be honest here. Him turning out the way he did was *their* fault as parents. Also, who are they to point their fingers at him? Pot calling the kettle black. In his defense he lost his confidence in them long ago and knew they lied to him straight to his face many times, especially his awfully convenient stationing far away from Britain during his time with Camilla. From what I heard he was also pretty much coerced into marrying Diana by both the queen and the queen mother and thus indulged in their wishes. The queen mother in particular had a rather old-fashioned (nearly archaic) idea of what the most important aspects of a wife is and bizarrely also assumed said modern-day wife would be equally happy to play such an archaic role. If they weren't so pre-occupied with "royal pedigree" and "youthful beauty" they might have realized that Diana was the *wrong woman* and a royal accident in the making. The should have noticed what kind of books she read (naive, romance novels of the cheap kind read predominantly by little girls and sheltered housewives) , what kind of ambitions and interests she had and how much she understood of what was expected of her and said "No-no-no-no! This is *definitely* not going to work!" Judging by what kind of men Diana was into following her divorce and what they did to earn her "love" I'd say she never left the fairytale princess stage. Is Charles a swine? Undoubtedly. But he was surrounded by them and learned from the best swines around him. You know, sometimes it's foolish, even dangerous, to pick sides when one is a third part. This is a rather disturbing habit observed in far too many people. Picking sides, when you should be neutral. Especially when it's clear neither side is innocent or good. Oh, and if you don't know any of them personally then don't superimpose your own personality or life onto them.
Foy, Colman, and now I'm hearing, Staunton. It's like building a dream team. Even the supporting cast is superb! I remember signing up to Netflix only because I wanted to watch The Crown. Netflix, you should thank everyone involved in this show.

I started watching Broadchurch because David Tennant, and ended impress with Olivia Coleman. Then I started watching The Crown because of her. She's amazing.
I can't wait to see what Imelda Staunton does with the role. I loved both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman so much in it. They made it their own and still managed to keep it coherent within the show.
This season made me not like Diana that much, but still idk now I somehow feel for her even more. Obs she WAS NOT saint, she was just a shy and naive girl who loved attention. Life is so cruel.
@@freshname I was wasn’t very fond of her either in this season. It didn’t highlight the the good that she did. In real life, Diana and Charles both contributed to the end of their marriage. Charles continuing his romance with Camila being at the heart of it. They were not properly matched.
I know it must be hard for the royal family to watch their life unfold in a dramatic fashion as this show. But for me, I believe this show helped humanize the family. They showed all their mistakes, their imperfections and triumphs. It made me love the royals even more. I understand this is isn’t a biography and isn’t all historically accurate, but they all portrayed their parts with such dignity and respect. I absolutely loved this.
May we just enjoy the gifts of both Foy and Collman? Olivia transformed herself. Check Broadchurch. And we are all in for a Wonder in Imelda, another great actress.
Love how the editing here let’s her have the final word in all clips they used, even if the conversation actually continued in the series. Makes her look badass.
1:17 Elizabeth: Let me let you in on a secret, nobody wants to hear it. Charles: **cries** Elizabeth: MANNNNN, i cant let this boi become king. what shall i do?????????????? hm, i guess i could become IMMORTAL!
I seriously think monarchy (in the UK) itself would be at stake if Charles were to become king. William and his wife are well liked and rather quaint in their interpretation of royal duties - Charles on the other hand is a bit of a quirky freethinking spirit that likes to think he could change the world, which is kinda dangerous if you're the king of a country that wants to be democratic...
Omg yes I’ve watched it at least 7/8 times and the first few times i was angry because of how much I love Diana and wish she could haven gotten a way from Charles ASAP but I completely understand the Queens point Charles and Diana were given a life full of luxury and Charles especially could have mostly anything he wanted. But instead he chooses to dwell on the 1 thing he can’t have.
@@freshname I mean she was but then again, she wasn’t she was only 19 when she and Charles got married he was 32 which means he should have been understanding and nicer but he wasn’t sadly
@@dhadad9885 By all accounts and definitions you're totally independent. Fact is that the top-ranking countries on the Democracy Index almost all are *constitutional monarchies* - i.e. the head of state is still the king/queen but all decisions are made by the government and parliament. The Scandinavian countries Norway and Sweden sit on #1 and #3 in this list. Their kings are nothing but figureheads holding ceremonial and emergency powers (able to veto a coup government by a hostile/extreme group) while the PM and his/her cabinet has the real power. They also calculated that keeping a king/queen is *cheaper* than having a president. Fair enough their monarchs are rather "modestly paid" compared to QEII. Presidents are overrated. Why? Let's just say that many of them in the "free world" today tend to be backed up by rather powerful "economic interests". That usually entails some rather interesting drawbacks. There's always the risk of some presidents deciding to become "president for lifetime" (Putin). When was the last time you heard something non-scornful and critical being said about *any* current day president? A prime-minister on the other hand is generally *not* selected by "big money" and is chosen by the political party as the party leader. While favoritism does exist this is nowhere near comparable to the manufactured cult a president gets. New Zealand is #4 on the Democracy Index. Canada is #5. Australia is #9. All commonwealth countries. Meanwhile countries with a president such as France (#24), the USA (#25) and Italy (#29) count as "flawed democracies". Germany sits at #14, but when was the last time you heard something nice being said about Angela Merkel? No, you be GLAD you have your own prime minister and enjoy the benefits of constitutional monarchy. This makes the decisions of the people in a country and the democratic process so much more fair and direct than under a republic with a president. The day Australia becomes a republic with a president prepare to see the same kind of political charades you see with presidents in the "free world". With people like Donald Trump, Nicolas Sarkozy and Silvio Berlusconi becoming presidents in their countries I'd be careful longing for a republic. Australian laws and legislation is completely decided by Australian people and their elected officials. So by any definition it's an independent country. Who the head of state is - especially in a constitutional monarchy where the monarch has very little political power - is of no concern. At any rate is certainly appears better than a president.
All i want on the last scene of the last episode of the crown is Clair Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton in like a dream sequence looking at each other looking back at the past or something... Idk i iust want them together in one scene..

The problem is that they cant do the contemporrary queen while she is still alive. whether they will do a final series will depend on the Queen dying. They will also leave a decent gap between her actual death and filming, perhaps 5 -10 years
Olivia Colman has a strong resemblance with my late mum. Every time she looks sternly or disappointedly at someone it hits me right in the childhood feels. If I ever had a lot of money I'd ask her to wear a sari and yell at me to get my life together. Colman totally deserved every accolade for her portrayal, hands down.
Couldn't agree more.
Yes they both did great.
Not denying they're both fine actors, but it greatly helped them that they had some absolutely marvellous dialogue to deliver. It's the script that is the real star of this series.
"Now, much more importantly, who is Billy Jo - El?" Omg an instant classic Crown moment lololol

My favorite scene is when Olivia as the Queen stood her own against Michael Fagan. Only she could have de-escalated the situation and gave a bit of human warmth to the troubled soul.
ironically she couldn't do the same with her daughter-in-law

I had to look up “friend of Dorothy” when the Queen was describing one of Margaret’s past love interest. It means gay. I’ve never heard that before.

She is a one of a lifetime actress. They just don’t come as brilliant as she is.
Amazing portrayal of the Queen, as a Brit that was born in the late 70s this is how i've known her all my life. Spot on.
Her comic timing... my god she deserves everything. Acting genius!
"I don't often get into a fight but when i do i want to win" . ......... olivia colman killed it ....⚘
I love how Olivia plays an Elizabeth who is much more confident in her role as queen. Like when she calls in Mountbatten to chew him out, it’s completely different from her interactions with Edward when she was younger. Firm, powerful, and in command. She knows it and everyone else knows it too.
Just when I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy Olivia after Claire when I started S3, the "You've made it this far." completely sold her for me 😂
Where is the scene with the TEAR in the Aberfan episode. For me it was one of the best scenes with her. So magnificent and moving.
She owned Charles when he said “I am suffering..” the Queen: “No you are not suffering..” 😂😂😂 I LOVED Olivia Coleman in this scene
I have to say Tobias nailed Prince Philip. His accent and mannerisms are spot on!
Olivia Colman and Gillian Anderson acting in the same scene BRAVO Netflix BRAVO.. 🎉👍

The queen ranting to Charles is such a wonderful scene. Charles was being a right swine.
Same, I signed up for Netflix so I could watch The Crown. Seeing it while staying in a hotel room was the beginning of my Netflix journey
"Thank you Martin...I'm a Queen not a Saint"
I love the dressing down that Elizabeth gives Charles about his marital woes. I could only hope that she gave him a speech like that in real life.
Helena and Olivia being the best duo ✨
Olivia and Claire did an absolutely amazing job getting their voices to sound just like the Queens!!

Olivia Colman is excellent! I can't imagine anyone else playing Elizabeth.
I started watching Broadchurch because David Tennant, and ended impress with Olivia Coleman. Then I started watching The Crown because of her. She's amazing.
Coleman is sublime. Deserves Oscar. Her range is impressive
Hard to believe this is Detective Miller
Big fat tears were running down my eyes when Diana hugged The Queen, desperate for love.
I can't wait to see what Imelda Staunton does with the role. I loved both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman so much in it. They made it their own and still managed to keep it coherent within the show.
Olivias and gillians performance in this video has convinced me to watch the crown. Simply amazing
An excellent Queen. Her integrity was flawless. She Had too do her duty. And yes emotionally attached is not a queen leader.
Brilliant writing and acting

I'm kind of disappointed to learn about Princess Margaret's deficient gaydar. I would have thought she'd be the expert.

Yes, considering both she and her husband had same-sex relationships.
“Then might I suggest you start to behave like one!” 🔥🔥🔥She killed that scene!! ❤
8:33 This scene is great! She made me laugh and cheer at the same time. And her going off on him was the cherry on top!
6:37 I truly felt for Diana then and there😥💔💔 You really have to be steely to survive entering into a monarchy.
She did great as QE II, continuing after Claire's phenomenal performance! Love them both!
"Why would you never do that for me ?" That made me lol.
May we just enjoy the gifts of both Foy and Collman? Olivia transformed herself. Check Broadchurch. And we are all in for a Wonder in Imelda, another great actress.
My queen!! 👑👑👑 I will miss her
Love how the editing here let’s her have the final word in all clips they used, even if the conversation actually continued in the series. Makes her look badass.

1:17 Elizabeth: Let me let you in on a secret, nobody wants to hear it.
Charles: **cries**
Elizabeth: MANNNNN, i cant let this boi become king. what shall i do?????????????? hm, i guess i could become IMMORTAL!
I sincerely hope that she outlived him. He’s very obnoxious and I hate looking at his ugly face. He’s aged very....poorly
9:24 - amazing scene
YOU WILL NOT SEPARATE!
I watched that scene so many times.
In this scene she decided to punish Charles and not let him to become the king by her immortality XD

Looking forward to the next two seasons.
As an Aussie, the shade she throws at Bob Hawke (former PM) is hilarious. Lol
Bob did get a little payback. He was PM when we finally became totally independent from the UK
@@neilc7101 bro as long as we have the queen on our bill and the Union Jack on our flag and pm instead of a president, we’re still not independent.

"...Veeeey Beeeey, LONGNECK! At 20 to 8 in the fackin' mornin'. Get that up ya."
