If that motor came from an EM1 than it's a b16a2, which is the 97 VTEC del sol engine in the US. 96 got that motor in other countries.
94-96(US) came with b16a3 factory. 92-93 we only had the SI(z6) till 94 when the Vtec was introduced.
Not a huge upgrade but def an upgrade for a sol to have the 97 motor. Plus the em1 trans has shorter gears yeah? Def now 100% zippier

Ah, yes. I recognize that First VTEC smile anywhere. Awesome job. I am glad to see a channel restoring some of these Hondas back to the stock aesthetic. The tucked look is nice until you have to work on the car.

The old motor was definitely abused and/or neglected.
These motors never fail catastrophically or even explode in normal use.
These are so well built they only die almost always under abuse and/or neglect.
