    Do you feel like iTeach adequately prepared you for the classroom? I know you had been a long-term sub and were already in a teaching position while taking the courses, but if that had not been the case and you hadn't had prior experience teaching do you feel that the courses are informative enough to prepare someone?
    Also, do you feel like the program could be completed in 3-4 months if one gives it almost full time attention?

    • @thesouthernteacher1171
      @thesouthernteacher1171  4 года назад +9

      I think it would adequately prepare you for the classroom! I felt like I already knew most of the things that were being taught and that’s because I WAS in the classroom. So being taught things I was already familiar with or using was comforting in that aspect. And the courses, definitely! The field experience does take a whole school year because they come into the classroom to observe you!

    Question.
    I have a Bachelors in Kinesiology. I got hired as an ISS teacher(for now) and a Coach at a middle school. I'm on a teacher and coach salary. I have applied to iteachtexas and I'm about to start on that. This is all so new and confusing. Can anyone clear up the steps that I need to take. Will being employed at the school count towards my hours that I need? I'm hoping this all makes a little more sense when I get going because its all new and weird.

    They are calling me randomly. I have nothing to do with teaching. I tried calling them to put me on a “do not call list”, but every direction number I press just “says” they can’t get into contact with me. Even the directed dials involving if I had paid just goes straight to voice mail. Very concerning for the teachers trying to better themselves.

    Great video. Thanks. I have questions. Can you complete a video regarding the modules? Are the modules writing intensive? Are there modules that require projects to be completed? Are there quizzes or test? Please share what kind of timeframe each module takes? For example, can each module be done in an 8 hour effort? Outside of the 7 modules, are there modules for the PPR? If I can complete all modules this summer (before I get a job), are there additional modules associated with the teaching experience? I probably have more questions but this is a start. I pray you answer ASAP.

I am a little bit confused about the difference between the courses through iteach and the assigned content area. Does iteach provide the instruction for my content area? I am very interested in doing Iteach in Nevada, however I’m also considering other programs and I am leaning more towards this one because they partner with the university I went to. My main question can I take the courses entirely at my own pace, for example if I was able to finish 1 class a week is that something that’s allowed?
    Also, you mentioned you were working & taking courses, at that point were you responsible to pay since you were employed?

    • @thesouthernteacher1171
      @thesouthernteacher1171  3 года назад +2

      I’m so glad you’re interested in iTeach! Yes the classes are at your own pace, I think I mentioned that they “suggest” you complete it in a year. Which kinda means you need to complete it within a year. I was through a program in my district that actually paid for it but yes, if you are employed you start paying the monthly payments! I’m not sure if you can set a payment on your own or they choose how much you owe a month! You can definitely email and ask. They are VERY quick with replies and VERY helpful.

    I have been enrolled in Texas since the beginning of the year. I was lazy about getting the work done and that is why I am not finished with it yet. I just wanted to start this program this year and hopefully get finished with it by the time my youngest starts school next school year. I am currently in the 5500 section. I have a few questions/issues with some of the assignments but do not really have anyone in my everyday life that I can actually ask about what I am doing so I have been stuck some. The examples/sample assignments that are given are not all that great. Is there anything you would suggest for me in my process?

    Hi! Thanks for the video. Do we have to complete the content exams prior to being accepted in the program? I am in the last leg of my Bachelors for Educational Studies through WGU and I am trying to decide if I want to complete the program through which I will be fully certified when I finish or if I want to get an alt cert. The thing that I am concerned about is that through WGU I cannot get paid while student teaching, which takes 12 weeks. However, I have been a substitute for them last 3 years and I wonder if that will help. I really do not want to do field experience for a year. Any suggestions. Thank you!!

      So I only had to take Praxis 2 because my ACT score was high enough to not take Praxis 1. I know FOR SURE you have to take Praxis 1 before being accepted! Now let me tell you, if I knew I wanted to be a teacher from the beginning I would have went through my university’s education program. I think student teaching helps a lot because you have someone there to ask questions, talk things through and someone who is 100% on your side. When you are doing field experience with iTeach someone is popping in 3 times over the course of a year and giving feedback for one hours worth of teaching. Don’t get me wrong I loved my observer!! And with my situation I loved the choice I made, unfortunately my VERY first year teaching I had a mentor teacher (not related to iTeach) that wasn’t 100% on my side and I had no idea what I was doing as a TEACHER because all I had done was sub. I would suggest if you are on your last leg to finish! It’ll be worth it!

      I looked on Amazon for study books that had practice tests in the back! A lot of times they’ll tell you what areas of the material you need to study based on which questions you miss.
      And you can totally apply mid year, sometimes teachers have to leave for personal reasons or there may be maternity leaves etc that you can fill! Some places may even be adding classes based on numbers. It never hurts to try!

      Don’t worry I’m the same way! I would legit just tell myself if you start a course it needs to finished within a week. Now did I take a few weeks off between courses? Yes! I knew I had a whole year to finish them so I would pick a time that I knew I could focus on a course and use that week to complete it! Sometimes a course would take me more than a week. But as long as I was working on it consistently that was fine with me!

I have had interviews but because I didn’t student teach I wasn’t offered the job. I saw that you said you don’t “student teach”. So, how would this work? • @thesouthernteacher1171
      @thesouthernteacher1171  2 года назад +2

      I’m not sure how it will work in your area! I applied for jobs at my school board and most of the time when you aren’t certified the lower income schools are the ones that will hire you. This happened in my case. They were desperate for a teacher the week before school started and hired me. They only hired me though because they knew I was in the process of becoming certified. I don’t know if your district does this or not! I would talk to someone at your school board and see what all your options are. You may want to look into long term subbing while still in the program until you finish. You only need to be a sub to become a long term sub (maternity leaves, sabbaticals, etc.).

In my state if you are in the process of becoming certified they will hire you. And it will definitely take 1 year for field experience but you may finish the courses before a year. You can complete the courses while you are still working, but to complete the field experience you will have to be teaching. They suggest a year for the courses and a year for your field experience. So you can take a whole year to complete those. I’m not 100% sure about Texas, but they do have 5 observations during the field experience portion. iTeach does post job openings but they just get those from you district. You can go to your school board and they can help you with what schools have openings! I’m not sure if you’ll still be able to work part-time, but if you have a job teaching you’ll be getting paid.
