The fact that RUclips is going to wait until they're faced with litigation for negligence because they won't just do the right thing and listen to reason and ethics is pathetic. The one with the forehead tape was really funny to me as a marine biology major. Most of the organisms shown, such as the daphnia (water flea) and a copepod, are found widely in aquatic environments, but don’t exactly thrive on human skin. Plus, they’re clearly swimming, which would not be possible on a piece of tape

      I think the onion trick might be more useful if you grow your own and are trying to dry/cure them so they will store. It's not that they don't care (if they didn't care they wouldn't care about tonnes of other problematic categories as well), but more than moderating a large platform is ridiculously complex. That doesn't give them a free pass at all, but as they always say "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.". So yeah, bringing attention to it again and again is indeed the best thing to do. Best thing to do is to contact any (big) advertisers that you see before such videos, as them complaining to RUclips sometimes results in FAR quicker escalation.

    Hey Ann. The pantyhose trick is common when dealing with Vidalia Onions, which are so high in sugar and water that they will go bad if they are left to touch each other. This is actually recommended to folks in America that buy a LOT of Vidalia's-I have done it too. And it does work-albeit the Vidalia's are consumed long before 6 months. Some Vidalia's can be eaten like an apple as they can be so sweet.
    Mind you that Vidalia onions are ONLY grown in Vidalia, Georgia, US and there are actually laws that say you cannot brand an onion a Vidalia, unless it is actually grown there-no clue how many companies cheat on that though.

    I'm not a lawyer, but the basis of the infamous "hot coffee" lawsuit in the 90s against McD's was not that the old lady got burned, but that dozens of cases of severe burns had been caused by a number of factors that the company did nothing to remedy over some stupidly long period of time. The purpose of the old lady's suit was to make the company take purposeful action regarding an actual dangerous set of circumstances. She originally only wanted her medical bills paid, the judge decided to add on punitive damages, which I think she ended up seeing little of anyway. I digress, it should be perfectly reasonable to take RUclips to court for something dangerous which has been shown repeatedly to be so, but this platform and many others seem to have become too mighty...

      I have to wonder though, and I'm not a lawyer myself, if RUclips has some kind of "Release of Liability" clause in their Terms of Service that basically says that you, the User of the Service shall not hold RUclips Liable for any harmful or dangerous content that is disseminated on the Service and subsequently acted upon by you, the User. Thereby legally passing the buck on to the individuals or the organizations behind the individual channels and thus necessitating the filing of lawsuits towards channels on an individual, ad hoc basis and freeing RUclips from the risks of being held liable as a named party in any kind of a lawsuit be it individual or class action.
      And since many of these "5 minute crafts" type hacks channels more than likely do everything they can to obfuscate where and how you can contact them in order to properly serve them a legal document, good effing luck hitting those organizations with enough lawsuits to shut them down. They operate so dang many channels and pump out so much content that RUclips happily profits from running advertisements on that they probably couldn't care less to lose one or two channels to lawsuits.

    • @ceekay3143
      @ceekay3143 3 года назад +1

      I have no idea why RUclips doesn't have some sort of warning, or doesn't force content creators to have some sort of warning at the beginning of their videos once someone has reported them.
      Tik Tok has a warning saying "The actions in this video could result in serious injury" on videos involving stunts and other things (sometimes on random videos for no reason, but anyway). They're also apparently trying to crack down on misinformation, removing videos that have been proven to be false, AND have an "unverified content" warning for videos where it's not super clear if it's true or not (which would apply to most 5 Minute Crafts videos).
      Twitter seems to have a prompt to read something before sharing the headline, to crack down on the spreading of misinformation.
      Facebook has a thing that tells you if a link is dodgy or has been proven incorrect, especially if it's related to the pandemic.
      RUclips has been around since before any of those, but there's nothing on there to help people not fall for dangerous misinformation? I guess it's because so many of the views (so, revenue) come from watching and sharing videos that are just too ridiculous to believe. I mean, how many people shared Rebecca Black's "Friday" music video to their friends, compared to a nice song they personally like?

    • @krila3978
      @krila3978 3 года назад

      @@ceekay3143 I've thought about it before this video even, and the problem with cracking down on "harmful misinformation" is that it's far too broad of a term. It becomes a slippery slope when it comes to anything controversial, and gives the platform control on what to censor. Essentially has the ability to remove freedom of speech from the platform. Granted that depends on the position the platform takes and all ---- but that's still not ideal, especially since a lot of popular channels are controversial ones, or debate channels with hot takes.
      Really, they just need a way to require any dangerous video to have a warning/disclaimer, and to crack down on what the term means, banning all of it from appearing on youtube kids' searches. There would still be accidents, but far less.
      Or, of course, when these loopholes pop up they could simply add a policy against whatever it may be....

    The only reason I could think of about preserving onions by warping them in stockings (or whatever that's not air-tight) is that you could hang them up in places with good airflow (like next to a window) so it saves some space in your kitchen while minimizing chance of mold spreading, especially when you have so many onions that you could only pile them up in a basket. So honestly unless you are using it you will lose it. Also, yes I looked up that statistic and will likely forget it by tomorrow.

    I cook popcorn for about 10 years and i just wanted to add that every time you try to pop corn with stuff already on it, it increases the chance of either burning or not popping the kernels. That goes for chocolate, butter, cheese, whatever you want.
    As Ann already stated, just do the popcorn without anything on it first (maybe just a bit of salt, but too much salt will also cause some kernels to not pop. Yes, even the sweet ones, it gives a better taste at the end)
    If you want a caramel popcorn i recommend simmering sugar and a bit of water in slow heat, you can also add powdered chocolate to it. Just the same way you'd do a regular caramel.
    Then you mix with the popcorn ALREADY popped. it works much better. Another tip i could give is use WINE VINEGAR (can work with other types of vinegar but i'm unsure) instead of water while doing the caramel. Just don't use it too much. It wont have a vinegar taste, dont worry. It sticks much better to the popcorn and it's much more crispy and dry. Using water can risk making a soggy popcorn if you're not used to do it.

      @@Xeddicus427 Class action lawsuits involve a large group of people suing the same person for the same reason (so for example, suing over a faulty product they all bought or price fixing), which disperses both the cost and the risk. A lot of times the lawyers' fees come out of whatever they manage to win, not out the class members' pockets. So if you're a class member you don't actually pay anything, you just opt in to say 'yes I was affected by this' and get a portion of whatever the class is awarded.
      A lot of times the individual class members might not get a ton of money ($5 million divided between 100,000 people is only $50 each), but it adds up to a large chunk for the entity that got sued.

    Coming from someone whose first job was stocking a green grocers, organic or not, we would cut off the stems and soak veg in cold water to make the product look better on the shelf.
    If we had fresh cut flowers or something delivered we did those too (in another work area). Same thing,helps the stems draw up water.

      The opposite would be more likely----all the harmful pesticides in conventional, and isn't even grown in soil (hydroponic) vs all natural organic teeming with nature.... The organic food cult people would be all over that crud

    You could make an entire video about how you like to clean your pots, pans, and microwave after giving the hack a go. Do you have a certain mixture or substance that you like the best? I feel like, as a food scientist, you might have some great insight into what actually works to get your stuff clean.

      I'll save Ann and everyone else the bother.
      There are already fifty zillion RUclips videos telling you to use either baking soda and vinegar, the eco method, which doesn't actually work on most heavy duty muck, or, the saviour of us all, Barkeepers' Friend, which does work on most heavy duty muck.
      Then for the really nasty stuff, there's Easy Off, which is NOT recommended by the manufacturer but which innumerable videos show works fairly safely on that burnt on discolouration we all get on pots, baking trays etc., that nothing else shifts.
      There now. Is everybody happy? You bet your life we are.👍😎

      @@Beruthiel45 Those are some interesting tips, but I’m mainly suggesting that our friend may have a unique perspective as a trained scientist and might have fun making it into a video. Then again, she’ll have to demonstrate the cleaning effect by…cleaning! 😂☠️
