Hello, I’m leaving to bootcamp next week of this month. I had a general question and concern. I am currently in college and have obtained my associates degree. My goal is to be a doctor within the navy once I have obtained my bachelors. I am going into the navy as an active duty member and my job is hospital corpsman but I want to go green-side after A-school is that possible being a girl or will I have to take a physical fitness exam before I can have that choice?
How was bootcamp!? I assume you'll be in A-School when you read this. Yes, you can go green side as a female, but you must be fit. Plenty do it, so go for it!
Im very interested in the hm-atf contract for smt. I'm wondering if you have any information that may help. Like how there training is and attrition rate. What happens after all the training or how many get the job. What are the chances of even getting in. Because currently im looking everywhere for any bit of information i can get. The reason being is so im prepared when im there. If i do get to that point nothing will stop me. Great video
I do not think that there is any publicly available information about the percentage of HM ATF recruits who make it through the training. Navy seals have an attrition rate of about 80% so my guess is that HM ATF has an attrition rate of about 50%. Like anything in the Navy, if you are determined to pass, you will. If not, the Navy will put you in a different rate for 6 years.
I’m a pre med junior in college, didn’t do well this semester and I’ve always wanted to join the military. Want to go HM, but can I do that as a reserve? I know I will have to do boot camp but do I go to A school right after and then finish as a reserve?
Yes! That is an outstanding option and will be good to help impress medical schools and might help make up for your week grades in your junior year. You might have to do a post bac to raise your GPA if it's not at least a 3.3. And you should also get a 510+ on your MCAT
And the reserve will contribute a little bit to your college expenses with their tuition reimbursement. It's a great option for you! Just be patient because sometimes it takes a few months before the corpsman position opens up in the reserves. The recruiter will try to force you into some other job and he will tell you that the corpsman position is super rare and hard to get and so you should just take some other job instead. Refuse. Just be patient and wait for months and he will eventually give it to you. And of course, you have to do well on the ASVAB in order to get the role. Ask him what the minimum score is and exceed that.
There's no guaranteed way to get to fmf. You have to enlist as a corpsman and then just hope that they offer you the opportunity. You put it on your wish list and you might get it. SARC contracts are available for new recruits, but it does not guarantee that you will become one. All it does is that a guarantees you the opportunity to try out to become one. If you fail, then you will be on designated and the Navy will put you in some random job somewhere. Unless you're absolutely confident that you have what it takes to become a SARC, don't sign the contract.
Is Quad 0 HM a 4 year obligation if offered at MEPS, whereas if C school is offered at MEPS is it then a 5 year obligation? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Tks
I'm 90% sure that no matter what you sign up for, if you are a corpsman, it's a five year contract. If remember correctly, technically, it's a four-year contract, but they obligate you to sign up for a bonus year. The bottom line is that it's a five-year contract no matter what the hell you do as an HM.
Not necessarily, request it in meps they will put it in your contract if you dont want anything else and if they dont you can walk out with no repercussions
@David doyle Hey Doyle! I think you're the same Doyle that's in the video! Thanks, bud! Are you sure you can get a C-school in your enlistment contract? I thought the only HM C-school that the Navy can guarantee is dental (HMDA). So to answer YaboiHid's question, I would say during A-School, the Navy will probably offer a few C-School options to the HM students. Not all 35+ C-schools will be available. Perhaps only 5. If there's a C-school option that appeals to you, tell your leadership & they will try to get you in, but they can't promise it. It depends on your A-School grades & your chief. Also, if you're not a US citizen yet, then you cannot go to C-School (the Black woman in the video is from Kenya and my wife is from Cameroon, and both were unable to go to a C-School, even though they both became US Citizens a few months after A-School).
Under the PACT program, undesignated Sailors must wait until 12 months prior to their projected rotation date to strike a rate. If you strike HM, you will go to their A School If a Sailor chooses not to pick up a rate, they may serve as a PACT Sailor until their end of active obligated service.
@@ftapon I’ll reach my 12 months this August it says on my contract that I’ll be automatically be e4 once i trike a rate, currently e3, but is it the same for HM cause I will have to go to their A school or will i start over again?
if one initially chooses an ATF contract, then fail the SARC pipeline, per se, what happens to you? would i just serve green side as IDC with combat marines or? great video!
If you fail, the Navy will put you wherever it wants. You will become undesignated. You could end up chipping paint on a ship. It's unlikely that you will "downgrade" to be an HM. So don't sign an ATF contract unless you are extremely confident that you have what it takes to be a SARC.
It's unclear what "contract" you're talking about. When you enlist with the Navy, you sign a 3-6 year contract. You can't go to Bootcamp without such a contract. However, you can go to Bootcamp as "undesignated." I believe around 20% do that. That means they have no assigned rate/job contract. Those recruits will get their rate/job contract while in Bootcamp. Lastly, if you enlist with a job/rate BEFORE going to Bootcamp, you can NOT change it at Bootcamp. I hope that's clear.
I'll be honest, being a corpsman on greenside sucks!! Yeah it's good for post service bragging rights and you get alot of ribbons for all the deploying you'll do, but the lifestyle is crap and you deal with alot of backstabbing sailors who are also corpsman. Had boots come on board getting meritorious promotions for kissing the chiefs ass, but never deployed, were in a line company, or even knew how to conduct proper sickcall. On top of that, Marines don't care that you didn't get the same training as them, they want you to perform nonetheless and have no time for one on one training during a workup. Your also still accountable for being in the BAS and if your in a line company. Alot of folks flock to med or dental battalion because it's more lax, but if you go to an infantry battalion like me, welcome to hell lol. Plus if so many people loved greenside how come so many corpsman jump on orders to ship to a hospital or ship coming from deployment? At the end of the day no one really wants to spend their career with a Marine battalion.
Rejoice Tapon, who features in other videos on this channel, serves on the green side infantry at 29 Palms, and she loves it, although she had a lousy CO at one point. That brings up a larger point for anybody considering the military. Your experience can depend quite a bit on who is your commander and your teams.
@@ftapon You said "she" which already let's me know their not in an actual marine infantry battalion as a corpsman 🤣. Females can serve greenside, but aren't allowed in infantry. So I'm sure she likes wherever shes at! More than likely she was with a less combat oriented unit that was more lax (medical or dental battalion). I was with 2nd light armored reconnaissance battalion and 3rd battalion 2nd Marines where not one single female served. Only time I saw a female on Camp Lejuene that was Navy was if they worked at the base hospital. Look, I'm not trying to discredit your content or throw shade, but giving my honest opinion like everyone else. Plus we lost alot of Marines and a sailor/corpsman in Afghanistan, so where's the fun in that?
@@razheer100 You sound like a disconnected, old veteran. Newsflash: in 2017, Marines began embedding female Corpsmen in their infantry battalions. One of the first was female Corpsman U.S. Navy Petty Officer Second Class Morgan Jacobs. She was attached to the Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force in 2017. Watch: www.marines.mil/News/Marines-TV/videoid/552257/dvpTag/Jacob/ After being fitter than 60% of the men at FMTB in Camp Pendleton, Rejoice Tapon was ordered to join a Marine Infantry battalion in 29 Palms. She's surrounded by men, and she has to carry just as much as they do, plus the heavy medical kit. Photo from FMTB: instagram.com/p/CyHBYSGPMZa/ In Bootcamp, Rejoice earned the nickname "The Beast" for a reason. Here she gives boot camp advice: ruclips.net/video/XctIQ1Cwv0Y/видео.htmlsi=aiV41VbTMdRG9OZz&t=335 In short, female corpsmen rarely serve in Marine infantry battalions, but the toughest do.
@ftapon Not disconnected at all. Was in until 2010. You sound like you never served at all. And if I said our unit lost servicemembers in Afghanistan, how would I be old? It's not like I'm talking Vietnam era or something. So you gave me new info I admit because when I was in no women were in infantry units. So, a combat unit is not just totally comprised of being in a position where you'll directly be engaging with the enemy. There's various sections to every infantry unit from paper pushers, to headquarters and support, and your line companies. Hell, even corpsman who are attached to H&S never actually go on combat operations or patrols, even when deployed. So Is she actually in a line company? You have people in Infantry units who'll never see combat, but will still do unit activities such as ruck marches, runs, or field ops back in garrison. If there are in fact females in infantry, it's obviously for media ops, s**ts, and giggles. So a picture of her with a ruck on isn't surprising to me because even women in the army ruck.
@@razheer100 "Old" is a relative term. You left 7 years before the Marines began embedding female HMs in Marine infantry, and women have been embedded for the last 7 years. HM 2 Rejoice Tapon serves as a Line corpsman, weapons company in the 1st MARDIV, 7TH Reg at 29 Palms. She recounted a field training at night where live rounds were used as they practiced cover & move. She also manned an M240 machine gun during a drill. Fun facts: 1) When the Marines practiced the fireman's carry, they sometimes gave Rejoice extra-heavy guys. 2) Rejoice was never the "victim" in the fireman's carry because she only weighs 120 pounds, and that's too easy for her fellow male Marines. Don't misunderstand me: I respect your service regardless of your age. Also, I agree with what you imply: Rejoice won't be the first choice if the Marines have to fight for real. Even though she was fitter than 60% of the men at FMTB, she's not the best. The Marines will send all-male teams to the front line in a real war. But once the body bags come back, they'll have to dig into their bench, and that's when Rejoice's name might be called along with the 2nd & 3rd tier male Corpsmen.

How does one get FMF or SARC. And can you become FMF then try out for SARC
@@ftapon Appreciate your feedback!
Somebody told me that I had to be selected into C school by the navy to be able to go into C school is that true?
Im a pact seaman is it possible to strike HM? If so will i be able to go A school?
Under the PACT program, undesignated Sailors must wait until 12 months prior to their projected rotation date to strike a rate.
If you strike HM, you will go to their A School
If a Sailor chooses not to pick up a rate, they may serve as a PACT Sailor until their end of active obligated service.
@@ftapon
I’ll reach my 12 months this August it says on my contract that I’ll be automatically be e4 once i trike a rate, currently e3, but is it the same for HM cause I will have to go to their A school or will i start over again?
@@laisssz.a8104 I don't fully understand you, but to become an HM, you'll definitely have to pass their A-School.
@@ftapon thank you very much
if one initially chooses an ATF contract, then fail the SARC pipeline, per se, what happens to you?
would i just serve green side as IDC with combat marines or?
great video!
What are the hours like
Depends on the job and where u are
40-60 hour weeks, depending on many factors.
Bro you were my LPO in TMD 😂 How are you?
Not sure who you are messaging
Can i get a contract in bootcamp
It's unclear what "contract" you're talking about.
When you enlist with the Navy, you sign a 3-6 year contract.
You can't go to Bootcamp without such a contract.
However, you can go to Bootcamp as "undesignated." I believe around 20% do that. That means they have no assigned rate/job contract.
Those recruits will get their rate/job contract while in Bootcamp.
Lastly, if you enlist with a job/rate BEFORE going to Bootcamp, you can NOT change it at Bootcamp.
I hope that's clear.
@@ftapon hello, that was a great explanation. can you switch to undes while in DEP.
@@taytayshaniqua.8686 I don't think so, but ask your recruiter.
I wish I got coremen😑
What did you get?
Doyle is built like a bag of milk
Watch:

After being fitter than 60% of the men at FMTB in Camp Pendleton, Rejoice Tapon was ordered to join a Marine Infantry battalion in 29 Palms. She's surrounded by men, and she has to carry just as much as they do, plus the heavy medical kit. Photo from FMTB:

In Bootcamp, Rejoice earned the nickname "The Beast" for a reason.
Here she gives boot camp advice: ruclips.net/video/XctIQ1Cwv0Y/видео.htmlsi=aiV41VbTMdRG9OZz&t=335
In short, female corpsmen rarely serve in Marine infantry battalions, but the toughest do.
Fun facts:
1) When the Marines practiced the fireman's carry, they sometimes gave Rejoice extra-heavy guys.
