It's a great move. I was a corpsman (greenside). After I got out, I went to nursing school and now have my BSN and will be finished with an MBA Healthcare management next semester. I credit all of this to the Navy. You'll never be unemployed.
Did you go to boot camp and became a sailor first ? I’m 15 and I’m interested and what does greenside mean , and are they regular hospitals and schools where you go to or are they like in a navy base ? Please answer if you can !!🙏🙏🙏
@@Lavanderia9so I'm in the process of going into the navy hopefully corpsman and what one recruiter told me was you go to navy basic training which is 8 weeks and then you go to MCT which I think is marine combat training it's not marine boot camp but it's like a camp to get battle ready and then I think you got to like a trauma field for like marines but I'm not a hundred percent sure but I do know you don't go to marine boot camp
I actually remember you from “A” School, I was a instructor there when you went through. Congratulations on making rank you will be a 1st before you know it.
Physician assistant schools love corpsmen and medics. You usually need some direct patient care experience to apply, and theirs is pretty much equivalent to any other nurse or EMT applying. Of course you have to possess a Bachelor's first, so on top of a good GPA and work ethic you should be golden for that path. In fact the first PAs were corpsmen who'd seen combat in Vietnam. They're a midlevel provider (so decent pay), you get to see your own patients, participate in surgery, etc. it's a very lateral field, which is great if you're not interested in nursing but don't have the time for med school.
I want to be a Physician Assistant and I'm considering joining the Air Force as Physical Medicine or the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman with a Nursing Associate Degree I think the pay is better as a hospital Corpsman they give a 25,000 dollar signing bonus
Yaaaaaaas! Thanks a million for making this vid and interviewing her. I’m leaving for bootcamp in dec. my rate is actually corpsman Dental how wild. Perfect timing. There is not much info on corpsman dental and I’m happy to get more info.
hey how are you?my girlfriend is going to boot camp could you talk to.her about it. she is going for a HM as well. it would be amazing if you could give her some.information.
In 72 went continuous service from USAR mos 91Q20 (Pharmacy) to USNR, secured my rate as H M2, and saw that the opportunities that the Navy offered were amazing for Corpsman, and very flexible. Made HM1 on first try, and there again saw how you were respected as a non com, and as a Corpsman. Shame I couldn't keep my personal life at the same standard! Oh well, time matches on. I da do have dress HM1 patch affixed to my canvas ditty bag for my boat, and enjoy some of the occasional remarks from other fisherman.
I'm in college right now and I screwed up my first semester because I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. I'm deciding to join the Navy as corpseman (If I do well enough in the asvab) because it sounds thrilling. I just hope the first semester I screwed up won't affect me
A V That’s a bummer bro. I had plans to join the military before I went back to school, but things changed once I got into the workforce while in High School. Now i’m in a whole new state away, with a more broad and better understanding of what it is I want in life without having to sacrifice 4 years for a degree and 2 years for the military. Plus I have my significant other with me and life hasn’t been any better. I’m really enjoying myself. You’ve created a mistake of jumping the gun before thinking about your future. No body knows you better than yourself.
Appreciate this video because I'm planning to join the navy. I went to school for ultrasound tech. But I would like to learn more about the medical field.
Great content Austen. Love what you’re putting out there with these interviews. I’m currently a nurse practitioner trying to get commissioned as a Navy officer. This might be a bit of a stretch but there are zero videos on nurse practitioners in the Navy. I’ve seen few RN info videos but nothing that goes into detail. Would you consider perhaps some day interviewing a nurse practitioner? Want to know how different it is from the civilian side. Excited to join! Once again THANK YOU SO MUCH. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you! I'm glad you asked this.. I don't know anything about Nursing or the Medical Field in the Military but I know who does! Send @lieutenanthall a DM on IG and tell her that Austen sent you. She's an Officer and a Nurse in the Navy!
Hey bro! I just tuned into your live stream. Almost had 100 viewers thats awesome!! It streamed all the way until you signed off. Gotta get the super chat linked up for real so everyone can ask you questions brother man!!! Really like the interviews on the different rates you have been doing. This was a good vid for sure.
Dental tech is usually something you enlist as. But as far as other specialites; they're called C - schools. Any time after you finish A school you can try to get into those courses by submitting packages, etc. So in a sense you can go for a specialty that you want, but keep in mind it's never guaranteed and at times it can be very competitive.
Good info ! What are the work days and hours like for both hm and hm dental? Which one would leave more free time to get pre reqs done for dental hygiene school, while active duty?
James E. Cornette Does this mean she’s Petty Officer 2nd class? Because that doesn’t make any sense. Unless she has a lot of college credits. Which is still iffy.

It sucked for me as well. Doing surgery and cutting off arms and legs at 20yrs of age has haunted me non stop. I'm 77 now and it still wakes me in the night. Don't put your hands on a bone saw is all I can say. Semper Fi.
I scored a 90 on the asvab and was going to go IT but got denied cuz I was behind on a credit card. So I went with my second choice which was HM, I hope I made the right decision.

Whats the difference between a Navy corpsman and a Air force aerospace med tech?
