- EPISODE 2 of this review gives my perspective on that new engine with a narration added to help the viewer along the ride. I've tried not to compare this bike against others and look to review it on its own merits.
Your review shows how much better this engine will be for road use over the underpowered RE singles. Cheers.
Although I find the power of my RE single to be perfectly ‘adequate’, as RR would put it, for the manner in which it encourages me to ride ✌️😎
Congrats for the video, and I’m looking forward to my green Scrambler in São Paulo, Brazil!
thanks everyone for the kind and constructive comments, its been a great help in starting this channel.
Excellent review- great mic quality and you have an excellent speaking voice, king 👍🏻
Really enjoyed the review and looking forward to mine arriving in Alabama. Cheers
I will be using my bike to deliver bacon and travel to personal chef events in our area. There is a burger and a beer waiting for you if you can make it to BILL-E’s in Fairhope, Alabama.
Best thing is after 1k the motor starts to smoothen out
I’ve just ordered a green Scrambler today ! I debated between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400. Eventually (after 10 nano seconds !) I decided there is more fun to be had in the mud ! You are a superb narrator. Whatever mic set up you are using is excellent - other RUclipsrs take note ! More video’s please. Subscribed. Thank you 👍 🇬🇧
hi Alan
that's very kind of you to say, its always odd hearing yourself on video but im enjoying the experience. ive devised a system to work to on audio commentary. im doing a short video on how i put the episodes together, which i though some of you might find useful. I'm still learning it should drop in next couple of weeks.
thanks again.
Hi second comment, well I test rode one on a wet Tuesday, 30 mile there 30 mile test and a very wet 30 mile ride home lovely bike found it a very awkward sit and ride and that front brake 😅 I was glad I was on my 1200 speed twin it was like getting back in bed with an old flame. Might try it again possibly one day maybe a try the speed 400 on a sunny day but for now as old as I am I’ll stick my speed twin . Regards Fred ps it sound good
hi Fred
thanks for the comments, its certainly an interesting bike. i found the riding position ok for me, the brakes were fine but it was straight out the box so they needed bedding in. ive noticed a few posts on youtube of bikes suffering oil and coolant leaks and i think that's an important thing to monitor with this bike,ie will it suffer any quality control issues. i certainly hope not,
its fair to say triumph don't have the best warranty back up reputation at the moment. im intrigued to try the new Himalayan when its available, i think that will be more adventure ready and not a direct competitor to the 400x, but i believe the Enfield scram is going to receive the new sherpa engine and that is going to make a great contest between the two bikes.
Great start to your channel, best wishes, keep it up and thank you. I have just finished watching the follow up to your inaugural video. Your voice-over is super, you have an excellent voice for the job, - very clear. Good luck with conquering live audio. It's not easy as there are so many permutations. Your online text in the first video was a good second best and did the job well. If I may make one suggestion - keep the video length a little shorter than the first video, as you did in the second. I'm no expert but we are all such impatient creatures these days!
Looking forward to the next instalment.
Make sure it's exactly as long as the average viewer wants, it keeps our attention, and doesn't have anything we dislike.
I felt like this video could have used more of a character arc...
Loving the look of and your review, I’m thinking of parting my 1200 speed twin for one of these , test ride next week. Coming up 75 in April so maybe a lighter bike , although I’ll probably miss the power of the 1200😮. Best regards Fred ps the overtake was very reassuring 👌
Good job thank you for your input 👍 keep up the good work
Beautiful bike. 😍
I love how u put the rev in the beginning😂
Im picking mine up this weekend
You never did, did you ?
As a 66 year old rider I personally really hate those damn tank stickers the manufacturers insist on putting on, I understand why but its typical of the modern world where you are treated like an imbecile who knows nothing, read instructions, wear a helmet, use a certain fuel ect 🤦🏻♂️ those things come straight off my bikes
Just got my first bike and rode it a lot. The sticker recommended top rev rangers based on mileage. I drove it enough that being able to check made it worth leaving on for the first 1,500km. I don't want to memorize every vehicle manual.
Hair dryer to warm up the stickers...and off they come. Done that on lots of bikes 🙂
Yes, took the stickers off my Triumph tank using a hair dryer. Only needs to be warm and don't put it too near to the tank.
Totally agree....and Triumph are the worst offenders!
I’ve got one coming
I’m torn between this bike and another Royal Enfield but fancy a change, great review- Thankyou
Do yourself a favour and get yourself a Royal Enfield and forget about this poor quality styling exercise
Black is definitely the best colour. It's the only colour neutral enough to not make the brown seat look out of place.
I'd be interested to hear your opinion of it compared to your Hunter as I'm torn between the two ??
Interesting on how the tweaks seem to make it out perform the RE. Seems like exactly what I want after my RE Himi 400. Himi always needs fiddling with and never quite has what I want in daily use and commuting. Build quality also isn't good - bolts decay and sheer easily etc. Currently has erratic idle (+/- 1000rpm) which no one knows how to fix. Himi IS an offroad bike however, but I got the RE because of the state of UK roads. The scrambler however, seems like it's ideal for UK daily dirty road use.
Nice video,thanks.
Do all those stickers left of the filler cap come off or are they under the clear coat?
Triumph plaster their tanks with more idiot stickers than any other manufacturer. Infuriating! They should come off with a hairdryer and some WD40. I very much doubt they're under the lacquer.
Great Bike, great review ! Did you notice any engine stutter when you drive in lower gears, speed and RPMs ?
for a bike literally out the crate it was spot on, im glad i got chance to reride the bike with some good mileage on it. it was better once run in. it just has a bit to short gearing for me slightly.
Would the stock tyres on it be suitable for green laning?
Thank you for the video. How are the riding ergonomics on his one ? Is it as relaxed as on Himalayan or are they more forward leaning (aggressive, shoulder forward leaning) ?
It is perfectly relaxed. No forward leaning at all unlike it's sibling Speed400. It is very comfortable unless you are shorter than 5 feet 9 inches.
Lovely review. Really want either this or the road based Speed 400. Some reviews mention vibes at higher speeds - any thoughts?
Engine is very smooth until 100 kmph / 60 mph. Post that, some vibrations but I know of not one single cyl bike that is smooth beyond 6000 rpm. Not even a Honda is smooth post 6000 rpm. So all well yes.
@@RRP1992 thank you!
Is it a thing in the UK to only use 1/3 the tach? Use the whole tach, hit the rev limiter and you may get a better feel for the power. Same goes for the gearing. You short shift every gear massively and then say its geared short 🤔
How did you get it so soon?
serendipity, right place right time, couldn't believe my luck, grabbed it with both hands.
I'd say the main concern for this bike would be dealer fees driving the cost up toward the scrambler 900.
Dealer fees? That must be a US thing. Occasionally, some dealers here in the UK try to charge an 'admin fee'. I always tell them to stuff their admin fee ! They're very much in a minority - most dealers don't charge fees.
So did you feel any vibes at anytime If so, was they annoying.
It being a Single, I'd say the vibes will kick in on the higher end. But for city usage, if you keep with 7k RPM, you shouldn't feel the harshness. Beyond that, it is viby. Surprisingly the new Duke 390 is the opposite.
you own one?@@ChrisBOMtoATL
If vibes bother you, get a Yamaha MT 03, it’s silky smooth, lighter, lower, more economical and has similar power output to the Triumph. Probably more reliable but time will tell.
Is your triumph made in India or Thalind?
Made in India
ok got it,the new triumph 400 series will come to China, seems made in Thalind@@sasidharvivek5817
@@tanqztan544 maybe. I heard that Bajaj is planning to pair up with other countries too for this
Is it just me or do these bikes look so small! Is it a lot smaller than a 1200 scrambler?
its really like a scaled down version, in that its lighter and has far less bulk, but size wise its fairly comparable size wise, ie dimensions., im going to be having another ride on the 400 x in the near future to see if my thoughts have changed after now riding the NX500 and new 450 HIMI.
Your narration is good quality sound, but when you stopped and overtook to exhibit engine sound, the sound was crap and broken up. So didn’t get a clear sound at all
It doesn't matter if you compare this bike to others or not. The cold hard facts are that this isn't a Triumph Motorcycle no matter how hard the Triumph PR machine goes into overdrive to tell you that it is. This machine is a subcontract build generic motorcycle with a Triumph badge slapped on the side. Its a pretender !. By comparison a Royal Enfield Is a Royal Enfield designed and built In-house.
Ofcourse we will see this comment.
It's your opinion, can't pass it off as "cold hard facts"
So this isn’t a Triumph despite the fact that it’s been designed by Triumph in Hinckley? Just like Royal Enfield, designed by them, here in England. Lots of companies now get their products manufactured abroad, but are all designed in-house.
Really you have so much time and hatred to paste this comment on every Triumph 400 video I have seen?
@@nr0101 yep if I can prevent at least one person from wasting their money then it's time well spent
