The co-engineering with Bajaj is what has enabled this bikes from Triumph! One off my friends work for Bajaj R&D & the Bajaj played a huge role for these platforms. Obviously Triumph won't openly accept it or say it for obvious reasons, to market it as a premium brand products.
Bajaj's contribution is hugely under-appreciated by such reviewers!
Theu managed everything from suspension to engine materials to everything in between!
All manufacturers have tie ins with other company's especially on the sub continent, are you really trying tell me triumph don't know how to design and build motorcycles? They have been around a lot longer than bajaj who should be grateful for what they can learn from triumph not the other way round
So you're saying they are junk? Got it
Have to be scrambler in the uk , to navigate the potholes 😂😂
Done 2000Km on mine, the S400 is a great & nimble bike - it has its shortcomings like the odd speedo & buzz around 6k rpm, but it boils down to a really honest, fun bike with great build and paint quality. 👍🏻
I do find the gauge setup odd. Why wouldn't you make the analog gauge the tach and just make the speedo digital? Otherwise, very impressed by the ones I've looked over.
I think these will steal a lot of sales from Royal Enfield, these are for people who love the Enfields but just need that bit more power.
The RE 350 are just to limited, they should have make the bikes do 80mph, at least
@@the.communist
I really wanted to buy a Royal Enfield, I love the look of them but 20 horse power put me off, and the 650 range is too much for what I need.
@@Bob-_-Smith RE will probably have an answer when the Scram 450 launches in next 3-4 months. But until then these will sell like hot cakes.
There's also the new 400cc Husky twins
The reason the Enflields have less power is because that's the price paid for having a simpler, lower-compression, air/oil-cooled engine with easy-to-adjust (though more frequent) screw-and-locknut valves. It was a choice R.E. made, for those who prefer the simplicity over a liquid-cooled, multi-valve engine for *this* type of bike.
European design with Indian manufacturing seems to be new trend. Started with KTM, then Royal Enfield, Triumph, Aprilia. Happy to have so many options to choose from.
It's all about price. Indian wages are so much lower than the UK etc. Which helps lower the production costs.
That's good for customers, as long as they are built to a standard.
"Then Royal Enfield" Enfield was doing this since half a century ago.
@@SurajSinghTomarArya i was talking about the trend which began for royal Enfield once they started making 650 twins. Earlier they weren't exporting much.
@@59jalex It's what the company wants! If they are only going aggressively on price there will be some compromise but if the company wants quality also it will depend on their QC &QA. It's all about investment & what they want!
They are built to a good standard!
@@BlackHawkTejasThe only thing the company wants is massive profit margins, let’s be honest.
Great revue and lovely bikes. Enfields are a bit to old skool for me but, these are bang on.
Proud owner of scrambler400x …its an awesome bike👍🏻
Ok for someone who weighs 100kg%%?
Triumph nailed it again!
Excellent review and well presented....
There's still the underlying message that these bikes are good for days out, a bit of fun, or commuting. I feel, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the motorcycle press is still a bit snobbish about smaller capacity machines are not so capable as their larger more sophisticated and expensive counterparts for touring and multi-day trips.
single cylinder machines will have moe vibration as engine cannot be balancd well (only one piston moving) . So handle bar vibration etc. will be more. If you want smooth, small capacity, Suzuki GSX 250r is an option.
@@dilbertisms The Speed and Scrambler X engines are very smooth. What I'm saying is these bikes are just as good as their bigger brethren in many ways and that includes long distance work. Up to legal speed limits these bikes are easier to handle, have good power to weight ratio, and economic.
@@VegplotSorry, no, these are not for touring or multi-day.
@@POVwithRCI completely disagree. I've toured on 125cc bikes. Touring is what you make it, you don't need a mile muncher or cargo carrier to be able to tour. Ted Simon famously did his RTW on 500cc 1973 Tiger 100.

Nice review of what look like good value bikes.
I just wonder if the mainstream motorcycle community are being sidelined when this launch video comes out after so many bikes are sold and every RUclipsr has had their go?
Owning Speed 400 for more than a month now. And let me assure everyone questioning about quality, it was designed by Triumph without cutting any corners. It is assembled in India by Bajaj for the sake of mass production and manufacturing costs reduction. It is not a lesser Triump and it is being sold and serviced by Triumph dealership network only unlike the KTM and Husqvarna. So they are different. And once you start riding it you will feel that quality and also the support Triumph is providing. You will stop the argument of RE v Triumph. They are that level of value for money products
I’ve rode one and it felt rough and nasty
There is no RE vs Triumph in this segment. Both are very different. One is a long stroke thumper which is a rare engine configuration along with rare British looks, the other is a retooled Duke with retro looks. Now Bajaj is launching a Pulsar 400NS based on this engine within next 2 months.
Best triumpth 400 review I've seen. Looking to downsize from my 2013 CB1100; the S400 could be the bike 😊
Get the scrambler if you don't wanna look like a giant on a tiny bike.
They sound excellent. I thought they were well built on seeing them at a dealer last year. I was really looking forward to a test ride followed by a purchase but the payload is just too low for me at 176Kg, bummer.
Only so much you can do with a bike that light. I really liked it for what it is, it would be just for me and maybe one of the kids. Lightly used it’ll be perfect for the 18 year old who works a few nights a week or as a second bike.
Triumph, as British as a call from Microsoft, India!
"Yes, I've turned my motorcycle off, how many times do I have to say it, IT WONT TURN ON AGAIN!!!"......."I'm sorry sir, the problem is in your fuel, we cannot help you, you will have to contact your fuel provider".....
Conceived and designed by Triumph in Hinckley, UK, Which makes it pretty British
@@barriewilliams4526 Chicken Tikka Masala... English dish... still call it an Indian takeaway.
If you believe Triumph is British... good luck.
Triumph smashing it, brilliant quality for exceptional price. The scrambler platform is growing on me 😄
Do they wheelie like my old SR500?
The 'Speed' "is absolutely blood'e marvelous."😊👍🏼🏰
I'm still a novice rider currently having a RE Meteor 350. I can honestly say I am going to be purchasing a triumph speed 409 in the not to distant future
Great video, helium. Keep up the good work. 👍
I wonder if my dealer will allow test rides?
I think a different sprocket would help with the tall gearing. We have better roads and higher speeds so shorter gearing would help keep the revs down at higher speeds.
opposite. you'd want taller gearing for lower revs at highway speeds.
@@ramensospicy2992 correct. I meant the other way around. The gear ratio is too high (needs shorter gearing).
Definitely my next bike, street 400, and I have had many bikes already, just something about it 😊😊😎😎
Found the bike addict...
I love the Speed . I just wish it was a bit higher . That's why I'm going for the Scrambler 👍
I need a speed with the scrambler tank and seat..🤔 😜
Maybe you can get the seat changed at the dealership 🤷🏻♂️
Very nice machine. I will be interested to see how they compare in the real world to the 2024 KTM Duke, which has on paper advantages with power, quick shifter options, and a full digital display.
On open roads, the KTM would be loads more fun. In crawling city traffic, you'd prefer the better low end grunt on the Triumph. The suspension is also more pliant on the Triumph.
KTM certainly offers more equipment (I envy the adjustable suspension), but also charges a significant premium for it, at least here in India.
If you like the KTM's engine but the styling is too "in your face", the new Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is an enticing option.
What is the max weight load for the scrambler? Thanx ✌️
176Kg
Nice bikes 😊
Triumph should make larger capacity versions of THIS scrambler. Yes, there already is a 900cc & 1,200cc scrambler, but I’ve not seen universal absolute praise for the existing pair. Drop them, make an 800cc of this! And a bigger cc if really necessary, or not. But something like an 800cc, on merits par of this 400cc, would be ace 😊
I am looking to buy motorcycle after 20y break
This or used SV650 for the same price?
I am riding 1 from past 6 months ... It has got lot of accessories from after market ...

@@kyakaruvlogs2784 Race you? 😂
@@williamrae9954 I'll join you mid way
Far too much space between the wheel and rear seat on the Speed. Hope they will do an old school variant in future, like a bonnie or bobber and change the rear part of the chassis 😬
Triumph....👏👏👏
You’re the first reviewer that has preferred the speed ….Everyone else scrambler…also a scrambler is not supposed to be an adventure bike it’s for light off roading. Also six foot and above like me and the speed feels like a mini bike
The big triumph badge on the tank is a big turn off for me the scrambler tank is nicer
Same. It really spoils a nice looking bike. You’d think they’d offer a colour option without it for those of us who don’t vote BNP. Maybe you can get them in Ireland…
These are great looking bikes, but I would rather spend the same money on a 2nd hand Trident. 2021 model with under 5K miles would be same price as the Scrambler 400. Think it would take longer to outgrow it. Double the horsepower.
If they make a 500 ill buy one.
Its understandable to give Triumph credit, but remember Triumph went to Bajaj in India to use their expertise in making QUALITY INDIAN MANUFACTURED bikes but maintaining lower costs which BAJAJ is a legend of. Look at the Dominar 400 from BAJAJ which has been in production for several years. Indian manufacturing means that quality is 3 times better than chinese, and at par with european manufacturing. RE, KTM, BMW all manufacture in India for a reason. Now your iPhone 15 as well. For sure Triumph brought their expertise to create this fantastic bike, but the execution....
If only they didn’t have the yellow forks I’d buy one asap
Do people generally expect these to be as reliable as Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda (Z400, MT03, CB300R)? Or are they considered to be a bit more of a gamble for reliability?
ultimately they are a Bajaj, with Triumph oversight for dual quality assurance. I've ridden the Bajaj Dominar, for example, which is their long standing 400cc sport tourer single, which is based on the KTM 390 engine, and it was...fine, a little on the unrefined side. Different budget that one (as in, they are dirt cheap) so I'd expect there's much more corner cutting, which should make a difference. So, if I was to make an uneducated guess, about as a reliable as others in its class, including the KTM 390...and that's not a snub...I'm not someone who believes they are inherently unreliable.
obviously not but triumps aren't unreliable, at least in my experience.
@@jayc342009 40,000 mi. on my Triumph Tiger 800 here in the states, bike has had zero problems and is the most satisfying bike I have ever owned in 55 years of riding. Guess I've become a Triumph fanboy.
If reliability is important for you buy Japanese.
If not buy the extended warranty.
@@nomading_in Different budget? Triumph Speed 400 was cheaper at launch than Bajaj Dominor. All 3 (KTM, Dominor, Triumph) uses the same engine with slight modifications.
Hello everyone, I would like to find out about the Triumph Speed 400 TR engine. Does anyone know if Triumph engineers were involved in developing the engine, or if it's purely the work of Bajaj? Thank you for any responses.
Yes, 4 engineers from triumph have worked with bajaj for five years. Bajaj has experience in 400 cc engine. It's very helpful for triumph to develop the engine. Bore and stroke are same with dominar. Othan than that all are different. To confirm look at the sproket placement. It's entirely new engine. And bajaj is the reason ktm is profitable now. Bajaj helped the ktm. Bajaj has 49.9% stake in ktm and Husqvarna. Bajaj dominor 400 has a very good engine. So no problem with refinement. Triumph new tr engine better and has triumph standard quality.
Stick some spoked wheels and 50/50 tyres on the scrambler, it will look even better
Exactly what I'd do as soon as I bought one, maybe the higher raised mudguard too
New Speed 400 can be had now for 5k GBP. Must fight the temptation! Must fight the temptation!
As a Royal Enfield 350 owner, the main issues with new Enfields are the service intervals and the complete lack of service plan.
If you follow the letter of the manual, you'd be visiting the dealer twice(!) a year (irrelevant of milage), and quoted service cost is in the region of £450/year 😮
Also, the list price of the new bullet is only £300 below the new Speed 400. RE needs to come down on price as they won't sell.
So if you go on a Triumph jolly and slag the bikes of do you think you’ll ever get another trip?
So its a Triumph that's compatible with the price of others, unlike the rest of the range!
I really wish they had put this engine into a 400 Bonneville.. with twin shocks, spoked wheels and a bench seat.. and some analogue clocks.. that would get my wallet out… not these though, but I’ll wait.
They'd be mad not to make a bobber and Bonneville variant
I'm trying to wrap my head around each bike. I've come up with, the Speed is a small big bike and the Scrambler is a big small bike. Does that grok with anyone?
No.
Thanks!@@alangordon3283
They’re both small. One is just a taller seat height
Any bike with a 19” front tyre is a no from me UNLESS you’re going off road only , I’ve had one it definitely doesn’t want to lean over at any time, the red one is nice tho looks lush 🎉
You certainly have to give the bars a nudge to get them over, but once you're there, they track and hold a line well. And boy, do they hold rough roads well. But they're not sporty, that's for sure. Great on the roads where I live, but on smoother bitumen, not the first choice.
I dont have any issues with a Honda with a 23in front wheel, on or off road. That is what handlebars are for.......
@@skaraborgcraft great enjoy 👍🏾
These bikes need to have the front sprocket swapped out with an extra tooth...
They should have gone for 500cc twin cylinder
Would cost more
These need premium fuel in north America I don't think they can sell much in NA.
Not sure anyone here is worried about the gas at what @ 60 mph
When they get reviewed longer term in the UK there may be s bit more downside here and there as when it's put against a use case as a commuting bike of a first A2 bike for weekends I am sure there be a little less love shown. Its got all the ingredients to be a big seller though if in servicebit proves to be reliable, economical and the finish holds up to UK weather conditions but its got my deposit for now just need s longer test ride in warmer conditions.
C’mon, it’s not an off road bike (scrambler) It’s just a design. The speed is great
meanwhile HONDUH:
we have a 278CC masquurading as a 300R!!!
HERP DERP
To me, for these 2 to be proper interesting propositions they needed a 270 crank twin cylinder with at least 47 hp. No more no less. Hate the single cylinder tractoresc sound track so will never buy it over a honda CL500 or even a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650.
I’ve review… Really 😊
Speed 400 looks great, but not for a 6’1” guy 😩
Don’t get me wrong, I understand that most bikes are sold in Asia and aimed at riders of 5’7” - 5’8”. It’s fair enough
Well at 6'2 ,I tried both. Yes , the scramble is a bigger bike, but I loved the speed hands down 😊
Presume a 500 or a 650 coming out. Be a thrash on A roads for sure.
I know everyone excited here but honestly give it some time before buying it, because the KTM that uses the same engine supplier BAJAJ has a really bad track record in my country
In India, it costs 2500 pounds.
I'm sticking with my "ancient" RE 350 Classic 'cuz afterall, I'm ancient....
Wiv,fink,free? With,think,three.
I'm sure this British bike will be as popular as chicken korma....
Korma is sweet and disgusting
40 years ago the Yamaha rd400 had 44hp and was lighter
40 years ago the rd 400 didn't have to meet euro 5. Not a real comparison.
If a selling point is good quality for under £5k, just buy a used bike for even better quality for the same money.
Slinging the Indian moto bikes! LMAO
The new RE Himalayan has much better brakes, brembo, and much better suspension, showa, so its the RE for me everytime.
Well RE is coming with their scram 450 and maybe hunter 450 too... It'll be fun to see how they compare with the triumph
The 400 Triumph also uses Showa big piston forks, at least upfront. As for the brakes, cheep Brembos aren't any better than other price point brakes.
Just hype like on anything new, hard to take it seriously
Enfield isn't light because people doesn't want it to be light. They could use plastic parts like in this bike but its heaviness and long stroke nature is its appeal. Comparing this Triumph with and Enfield is idiotic comparison. Its like saying a honda civic is better than a Ford Bronco because it has two more doors. Both serve different markets.
That's the biggest piece of shill I've heard in a while. I'm sure it's a nice bike though.
I've tried to understand, but this english is out of my league ..
You keep harping on about Triumph have made this, created this etc… Triumph have not made this, Bajaj have made it and I would suggest Triumph have had minimal input on this bike. This is the reason it has come in at the price it has.
Is that just your opinion or can you offer any evidence?
@@Banditmanuk can you evidence I am incorrect?
As I suspected. Just an option based on no inside knowledge.
@@Banditmanuk It is a fact Triumph are not making this bike, it is made by Pajaj. Did Triumph design it 🤔
So cheap, so cheap, so cheap. What world do we live on? A 5k 400cc bike aint cheap. I cant afford to pay 8 grand for a bike
They’re not 8 K tho are they 🙄
It's all relative. How much do you earn/ what else do you spend your money on. 5k is a thing of fantasy for some, pocket change for others.
You REALLY, REALLY need to work on NOT saying REALLY 100 times during a video. REALLY annoying.
what I would like to know is how much sponsored this video is, because it sure smells as advertisement. I am reporting it as such anyway
