I use the A&H unscented Essentials deodorant. I really like it. In the beginning, I had irritation, but no more. It's getting hard to find in my area.

    • @Nyantastic2015
      @Nyantastic2015 5 лет назад +7

I used A&H for a long time and really liked it. I recently tried Lume but it's been eh, only ok. I find that it works until I really start sweating and then I still stink. BUT interestingly, if the sweat dries, the smell goes away instead of sticking around until I shower like usual. A&H still wins for me but before I give up on Lume I do want to try treating my clothes as they suggest because I haven't done that.

I recently tried Lume & my experience was really different than yours. I don’t love the scented Juniper Berry one. I generally don’t love lavender so I didn’t order that one. I also got an unscented, which I prefer. It smells a little earthy / not great / not horrible, but either way the scent disappears very quickly after applying. I actually am AMAZED by the effectiveness. For me it does work for 72 hours. I literally rub my hands under my pits and underboob area to test and I can stick that hand right on my nose and smell zero sweat, zero musk, zero anything. It’s like magic. I tried it on the bikini area, but that left an odd scent, l think I just prefer my natural lady vibe down there :) I agree the price is high and I think this product could be delivered to the skin better with a roller ball type stick. I just put a little dab and rub it in with my fingers because you really don’t have to use much. Since I bought it I only used regular deodorant once or twice becaus my armpit skin was feeing clammy

Genielle Burrows I agree with you 100%. Not for the lady bits. Lasts for me at least 48 hours. Even after a shower before bed I do not apply until the morning. Used to have to apply after I dried my body because by morning I would have a musk. Not anymore.

    1. Watch with real soap, not dove or other beauty bars. I used Dr. Bronners.
    2. Dry area well.

    • @GameChanger597
      @GameChanger597 4 года назад +4

I agree! The directions even say that you need to wash and dry completely before using the product. Aside from that, those who are saying it's pricey aren't taking into consideration that you can use it once every 3 days for it to work properly and you only need half a pea-sized amount for it to work so a little goes a very long way. Also, if you buy two, you get free shipping. All in all, it ultimately costs the same as regular deodorant because with regular deodorant you are buying three or four times the amount as Lume. It's 100% worth it.

Thanks for your review Hallease. I started using Lum'e in June 2019, I purchased the unscented tube which came to $19+ free shipping. I am happy I got the tube, it allows better control because I can apply the product with ease all over and a little goes a long way. I am almost out of product and it is Christmas. I choose Lume' because it was invented by a woman, an OB/GYN, amazingly beautiful funny ads, baking soda and aluminium free ( I am super sensitive to these 2 ingredients). I have an auto- inflammatory disorder that effects my sweat glands, I perspire quite a bit and it causes a lot of skin issues in the areas Lume' can be applied. Lume worked from day 1 for me, I didn't need to detox from my previous antiperspirants. This product has literally changed my life, NO sweating on most days, and when I do sweat it is significantly less. No odor , this blew my mind, and because I had little to no sweat my skin did not flare !!! Another amazing part is I can go 5 days with out reapplying and stay fresh and dry after every shower. I absolutely LOVE this product!!

Here is a tip... Stinking really bad is many times a buildup of toxins. In your system. Strenuous workout and sweating with release these toxins. Don't be afraid to sweat especially in controlled setting! Excercise and dont bs yourself.
Texas heat depends on your location in Texas also. Its a piece of cake in the dry areas compared to humid.

I agree 100 with Micah AP. I go through stages of excessive sweating because of my medications and I live in Florida...very hot and humid. I tried and gave up natural deodorant twice because my own new smell was literally disgusting me. I smelled worse and different than ever before.
I read about the detox and realized my 10 year old very sweaty boy has only ever used an aluminum free deodorant and has never had the smell I was smelling. He gets stinky but not that stink.
I tried again with all natural refusing to give up and after 2.5 weeks that smell never happened again. My bacteria in my body had changed and the aluminum and toxins were completely out and now I have no issues.

His sweating is terribly nasty and we can't afford to be throwing out clothes. We use the lysol sanitizer for using to wash clothes, along with tide detergent. Also use natures miracle stain and odor remover with the tide if the clothes and bedding still smelled bad. We don't have hard water. We also use fabric softener and sometimes scent beads just because we like the scent, once the initial odor is removed. Hope this helps

Aluminum is completely natural. It is one of earth's most abundant elements and is found everywhere - in food, water, and soil. Crystal stick deodorant uses potassium alum, a benign natural mineral salt. It's basically a stone with no scent whatsoever. It's effectiveness is almost universally testified to. I've been using it over twenty years (a stick can last for years). I thought I'd try Lume for something different.
PS. Some forms, like aluminum chlorohydrate, need to be used sparingly but are still considered safe. Manufacturers must strictly abide by allowed amounts in deodorants and anti-perspirants.

Now, along the way I've tried everything.. Natiive, Schmidts, Tom's of maine, Lavanila, megababe, arm and hammer, Kopari...ect...ect...ecttt expensive brands, cheap brands, all of it and most gave me rashes and I'd have body odor within a few hours. So I stopped using deodorant...all of it, I'd wash my armpits with lemon face wash then put lemon on after (helps with odor) and just dealt with it for about 2 months, I came back to trying all my natural deodorants and what I found was less rashes, but no odor control, so I thought I'd give Lume a tried again, with little hope and it worked! I am so happy, I am actually going on 24 hours without applying again and no scent whatsoever, good or bad, just nothing! No rash or irritation. I think detoxic from conventional deodorant/antiperspirant is an absolute must before trying any natural deodorants and expecting them to work.

Love your honest review. I've used natural deodorant most of my adult life. Crystal was the best until I found a diy by Bushbaby. Tea tree oil and a tablespoon of liquid magnesium oil (key ingredient) coconut oil, bentonite clay and arrowroot. I use it about 3x a week now but used everyday when I first started using it. I've been using it Everywhere! Before Lune came out. It is so good I make for women who have to constantly reapply deodorant throughout the day. Tried it on a sweaty man working in my yard in 90 degree temps. He was astonished. The best stuff in the world for navel, behind the ear, and athlete's foot smells. No break outs or irritation. No staining cc logging because it is a cream absorbed into your skin. I make all of my household cleaners, laundry detergent, and personal hygiene products including Shea butter products. Get that recipe, a tiny amount goes a long way. And it cost me $1.50 to make 6-8 month supply.

The price point is high they have to make a buck. I have used crystal and it was totally ineffective if you sweat it will not stop the stink. This is pretty good as a deodorant goes.

PLEASE - Before making the switch to a so called “natural” deodorant, first check and research every ingredient in it. Some actually contain forms of toxic aluminum. I researched many of these so called “natural” deodorants, and most include some toxic or harmful ingredients. Most of them will also stain your clothing. The only real natural way to control underarm odor is by using some form of acid. Acids kill the germs that cause the odor. I use undiluted white vinegar. Some people swear by lemon juice. For help with underarm sweating, I use baby powder, but am careful not to breath it in while applying. Other talcs and baking soda are good alternatives, although some people are allergic to baking soda. I have found that the vinegar and baby powder that I am using do need to be applied each morning and night. You can “google” natural ways to control underarm odor and sweating, if you are interested in making the switch from the standard deodorants/antiperspirants which contain toxic aluminum.

I'm so glad you did this video! I tried Lume a while back and got the lavender scent. I think mine is mixed with basil or something as well but it has a reverse effect with my natural scent. I felt like I smelled worse than if I didn't wear anything at all. It felt like must trying to cover up with an herb and now it's herb funk. I want to give it another try when summer ends and the temps cool off, but I'm not super hopeful. I want to try the Type A brand next...again, once the heat eases up. Thanks for the review girl!

Great review! I tried Lume from May 2019 to right after the new year. Your assessment of the product is spot on (except for me, their product under-scent, that earth tone smell you described, did not jive with my nether region, making stench rise that otherwise wouldn't). Like you, I got enticed by their awesome marketing and promise of 72 hour protection. But, alas, with Lume, applying everyday was an absolute requirement. Showering at night, still required a reapply in the AM. And if I did not reapply after the night shower, a pits rewash was definitely in order. To put this in perspective, I have always been able to skip deodarant a day (though I usually didn't) experiencing 36 to 48 hours protection with commercial deodarents and antiperspirants. And I never found a natural deodarent I liked (Crystal, the actual rock form (never saw the version you have), Tom's, or JASON), except for one; the homemade baking soda based stick one that I made myself. It was AWESOME in both scent and effectiveness. That is until it quickly became clear that the pits couldn't handle baking soda. ☹️Anyway, I saw an advert for Native over the holidays which offers several scents for men and women, in regular (with baking soda) and sensitive formulas. (They don't advertise full body protection but they make body washes and bar soap too.) I said, what the heck, and ordered some. Needless to say, Lume has been shelved! Now I'm back to being able to skip a day. And, if I choose, I can even repeat a shirt with pits still melling like the deodarent (my OCD won't usually let me though. 😂😂). I'm curious if you've tried Native.

Thank you for your honesty! I have hyperhydrosis and it is the bane of my life. I use lavender oil on my bikini line, under boobs and on top of thigh area...and I also use it on tp as a wet wipe.It is fairly inexpensive...I use it straight but it can be mixed with a good carrier oil. It is a natural anti fungal and so kills that odour because it combats it and it also stops any breaking out of the skin from an overgrowth of fungus. It must be pure and not a mix...easily available on Amazon...note: do not feel you need the most expensive because I buy the almost cheapest...as long as it says it is a pure oil it is fine...it is grown in France which some think is best but Bulgaria also grows it and it is much cheaper and fine. Also look for the size...some show what looks like a fairly large bottle but turn out to be either 10ml or only one ounce...I get four ounce bottles for usually 16ish bucks and one bottle will last me almost a month. If you get a small darkend glass sprayer bottle it works very well. I hope this is helpful...always test to see how your skin reacts to natural oils! I hope to see much more of you!!!!

  • @egghead4496

I was kind of confused and I may have missed when you were talking about the product not lasting for 72 hours. You were talking about the Lume (strictly a deodorant) and other antiperspirants. The purpose of Lume is just for a deodorant, not to stop sweat so isn't just the odor aspect that it's helping for a few days. The thing this product claims to do and you didn't mention is it kills the bacteria that causes odor, which many deodorants do not that I know of.
I also have hyperhidrosis in my pits and have just learned to deal with it because I just don't care about it as much anymore. There are certain fabrics that do make me perspire more and I will honestly use panty liners to help, so there's a tip if you don't want to use the aluminum products. I've also looked into getting Botox in my pits to help with it as well but I get that people who don't want to inject things into their bodies. I've also heard of a surgery that helps with hand/feet hyperhidrosis but I'm not sure if there's one for the pits.
I did order because they also offer a money back guarantee which I don't think you mentioned.
Otherwise, thanks for the review. 👍

I can testify that being allergic to baking soda is a thing. Currently, I haven't been able to find an aluminum-free deodorant that comes anywhere close to my aluminium deodorants and I sweat like crazy, especially when I'm stressed...which is often. So I use my natural deodorants for quick errand runs and when I know I'll be in a relaxed environment. I only break out my aluminium deodorants when I have someone to impress or I know I'll be in a stressful enviornment. I've used the stick version of the lavender Crystal deoderant, but I prefer the liquid version despite the wet feeling because it seems to work better at keeping B.O. away.

Aluminum is completely natural. It is one of the most abundant elements on earth, found everywhere, even in food. The potassium alum in Crystal is benign. Even aluminum chlorohydrate, which manufacturers use in deos and antis, is safe at the regulated amounts. They cannot deviate from them. Never feel bad about using aluminum products. Try using the classic Crystal stick/stone (lasts for years) for the quickie/relaxed mode and an aluminum anti-perspirant for the impress/stress mode.

Lavalin (a.k.a. Hlavin) is the only deodorant that works for me and it works really well, even with heavy work and profuse sweating. One jar lasts me 9-10 months of daily use, so it's affordable even with a higher price point. I can't do anti-perspirant. I don't have hyperhidrosis so take this for what it's worth...
I use LONE deodorant (no baking soda or shea butter - both of which I'm sensitive to). If you've been using an aluminum based deodorant and try just switching to a natural based deodorant, *chances are very high it ain't gonna work for you* and you'll feel let down. Happened to me. Then I learned about armpit detox (basically detoxing your pits to get rid of all the junk in standard deodorants). Did it and now natural products work effectively for me. *This is just my experience* and may be worth a looksie for anyone let down by natural deodorants.
*Disclaimer: the detox is a stinky time and isn't for the faint of heart!🤣*

It's true about the rashes.. I switched to natural deodorants when I heard aluminum can contribute to cancer. And I just figured it makes sense to not put harsh chemicals on my skin for days at a time. . But then I did go back to regular deodorant because I would get a nasty painful rash on my pits. Some would be as bad as lasting a few days, itchy, dry and bright red. Almost like I was inducing eczema on myself. Then I would stop the natural stuff and it would be gone. So when Lume pointed out that it was the baking soda that causes those rashes I switched. I love Lume, I also don't have any hyper-sweating condition so it works great!

Have you tried Hibiclens wash (chlorhexidine gluconate)? The key is to not mix it with any soap/shampoo as it will disrupt the chlorhexidine. It's what is used pre-op in the hospital instead of iodine now. They sell a body wash at any drug store these days. I use it in the summer and it kills the armpit bacteria (which are the source of the offensive scent-producing molecules). Since the surface of skin is dead kerotinocytes, you don't have to worry about pro-bacteria... all of them are bad. This will knock them down for a day or two.

For almost two years, I've tried numerous natural deodorants. The first one I tried had to much baking soda which led to darkening and peeling in my underarm area. I then created my own deodorant detox I found on RUclips until the peeling stopped. I tried Lume and experienced wetness. I tried Native and it worked for quite a while but then it stopped working. It tried Tom's. I worked for a few days and then it didn't. I then alternated between Native and the other natural deodorants still in my cupboard. I recently went back to Lume and it's working perfectly. In the summer, I tend to sweat more. I may have to use Lume with Native (I saw someone above suggested this above). We'll see.

Ok, so, nearly everyone here seems to be whining about rashes with the alternatives to Lume. Have you ever tried something similar where you just rub it on everywhere it's needed? I drink lots of water all day and sweat a lot too, and what I use is a DIY blend of Lime, Lemon, Bergamot, Lavender essential oils in MCT oil. I use the MCT oil because I can initially spray it on and then run it in. And 99% of the time I only need to put it on once. Some days I put it on a second time like when I go out in the evening. I used to get the rashes and using deodorants that just wouldn't fix the odor problem. With the EOs solution I'm able to kill 2 birds in one stone. I'm new to Lume so I'm still going to have to test it out for myself, but it sounds promising.

Was intrigued by Lume commercial so looked for reviews. I LOVE Arm & Hammer Unscented (which is really a nice, substantial Citrus scent & frequently goes on sale) which I hope they keep making. Plus, er Lume, I'm not sure what's wrong with using baking soda in a deodorant product.
I don't have a lot of spare income, so after I bought a very small tube of charcoal toothpaste for $2.99, I realized I have to be a more discretionary buyer.
For private parts, I use cornstarch which seems to work well and is extremely inexpensive (yet a bit messy on floors unless you step in tub momentarily). It's also helpful to put on cornstarch before deodorant on armpits. (I rub in so there's no powder residue.)
I don't like perfume-y smells for deodorant, but more fruity-like smells. I found a Wild Sugar Secret which I'd sometimes use before my Arm & Hammer Essentials Unscented. But it soon became unavailable, so I moved on to Passion Tango & Summer Berry which sufficed.
Anyhow, I appreciated your Lume review so I could decide if I want to spend $13.99 for 2.2 oz of a product new to me.

But now I have spirulina, it kills body odor from the inside out. I take the capsules. I use my aunt's natural deodorant. She has a line of skin care/hair care and also some candles. (accentaroma . com)
If you're trying to switch to a natural deodorant, make sure you detox your armpits!!!!!!!!!! It will help A LOT! Bentonite clay and ACV is the best I've tried so far, just mix them together and put them on your pits and let it dry like you would a face mask. People say you have to do that for 5 days without using deodorant, but I just do it the first day and go on about my business and it seems to work. The problem I have is that I have to switch out deodorants every month. I switch between my natural deodorant and lemon juice because my pits seem to "get used" to it and then it doesn't hold me as long as it used to. I've definitely tried to use an aluminum based deodorant before but they don't hold me anymore like, AT ALL. I get so goddamn funky is such a short amount of time it's not even funny.
When I first switched over, not having the antiperspirant aspect of my deodorant threw me off a little, but now I've gotten used to it lol. As long as it's not a funky sweat I'm okay with it. Mostly because breast cancer runs in my family and I don't want to help it out anymore than I have to lol.

Thank you so much for this in-depth review! I too, saw the commercial for the Lume deodorant and was curious about the product. I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa under both of my arms, which is basically a chronic skin condition where I get these really painful cysts in my armpits, for the most part I can help keep them at bay, but it is at the cost of me using deodorant which is something I simply cannot do. I've tried just about every form of deodorant there is, and I'm extremely particular about what products I try out because I don't want to have to deal with the bumps that will inevitably come along afterwards. Your review was not only descriptive and comprehensive, it also covered things I didn't even think to look for. I thoroughly enjoyed your energy and just overall enjoyed YOU! You definitely have a new subscriber in me, and I look forward to watching more of your videos!

Your condition happened to me after scratching profusely for about 3 days. I was using Schmidt's even though it caused my arms to dry out and itch constantly. I ended up with swollen lymph nodes and a cyst, this had never happened to me and I was in the most pain I've ever been. What deodorant would you recommend??

I watched the video, I read most of the reviews - I think there are correct responses on both sides!! I am starting a small business, which is scary. Unless you have been there you have no idea how scary it is!! I think Hallease's review was very informative but one should be very careful what they say especially towards those new businesses investing hugely (time, money, energy, thinking about it night and day) to get a company off the ground!! I know, when you put yourself out there you should expect criticism as well as compliments!!! Honesty is important, it is how we grow but kind honesty works wayyyy better!!!
I will watch Hallease again, her verbiage was great and her demeanor I loved!!!

I noticed the jasmine rose which I really like, but on warm days by the time I walk home I smell worse that without lume. But only my pits. I've noticed if i prime my pits with witch hazel i dont have a problem.

Also try rubbing lemons or the juice from real lemons under your arms. Let it dry before putting on clothing. It seems simple and unrealistic but it works great, guaranteed. I wouldn’t do this every single day, maybe 2-3 times a week. I have lume too and I alternate these two. I’m trying really hard to stop using antiperspirants for good (and yes it’s hard because I also have hyperhidrosis).

I love the honest review! I got Native deodorant as a sample last year and I've been loving it, especially since I have two kiddos who are hitting puberty and don't always smell the best. 😅

The only antiperspirant/deodorant that keeps me mostly dry and not stinking i the pits is Right Guard 72 hr. I'm probably going to have to get back on Oxybutynin because unfortunately I also have hidradenitis and it's miserable when it flares up. Glad I found this video. I love your personality and vibe, so I'm looking forwars to watch your channel.

I gave lume a full and honest try as well. I have gotten TERRIBLE rashes from other natural deodorants and lume did not give me a rash at all. Oddly, it worked pretty well for the right armpit but not the left. I don't typically smell very much, but that one armpit smelled worse with lume than it would have without any deodorant at all. HOWEVER, I used it on my privates, as they can smell a bit after a workout. For that, it worked phenomenally. Also, my boyfriend's feet stink terribly, and lume is the only thing that has ever helped. I will continue using it for those areas, but not as an underarm deodorant.

I just switch to Essential Unscented deodorant. Since I stared using it, I have no under arm odor neither sweat. I really do like it.

i agree with your review! esp the consistency it's like a runny ceam of sorts and the unscented "scent" has a funky smell to me! but OMG this deodorant's amazing!

Regarding Arm & Hammer products... one has to be careful with baking soda. It's great stuff for some things (deodorizing a fridge, cleaning, making science a fair volcano), but I used A&H toothpaste and my Dentist told me baking soda is so abrasive it was actually "sanding off" my tooth enamel. Ended that, went with standard cheap toothpaste, no cavities since. So yeah, baking soda must be used with care. I can believe some folks would be allergic to it... but to be fair there's a percentage of the population that's allergic to almost anything (wheat, peanuts and eggs for example). The "rash" issue might be person-specific, depending on allergies.

I actually use Native and Lume (apply both at the same time ) and what one wont do the other seems to and it works. It is frustrating with how you waste more with lume so I am going to try mixing arm n hammer with Native and and see how that works out
