Yes! I’m SHOCKED by the amount of comments here saying that I think this because people shower before they visit me. No! I think this because people don’t generally smell. I see SO MANY PEOPLE every day who never intended to have an exam and definitely don’t shower before - from labor to miscarriage, ectopic, heavy bleeding, heavy periods, early rupture, PID, etc - just because some people shower before a planned Pap doesn’t mean that’s all I see 😆 A very large number of our patients don’t shower just because they have visits and they still don’t stink. I truly believe this marketing is lying & people are overly self critical.
@@MamaDoctorJones there is NO harder work than Labor & Delivery... and you NEVER sweat more than post partum (maybe other places, but PP VERY sweaty)... vulvas in these situation should be VERY stinky & sweaty- they aren’t!!! I do agree with stinky feet... often the partners feet, LOL, I could never argue those don’t get stinky! Honestly, even BV doesn’t rival smelly feet. Retained tampons can be really foul, otherwise this smelly vulva/vagina campaign is really ripping people off for absolutely no reason!!! Great content!!!!
What's misleading is the use of the word 'odor' and "stench" to describe a normal SCENT indicative of the presence of certain hormones. A pubescent child may be concerned upon discovery of these changes, and too shy to ask, finds a deodorant an easy solution.
When I was in middle school, I was really self conscious of my lady smell when I sat (I just smell like a fish market around my period). Anyway, one day one of my classmates said to me “Yeah I have that too but I don’t think other people can smell it. Have you ever smelled anyone else?” and then I wasn't self conscious anymore.
Yeah we can usually smell ourselves when there is a shift in the way we smell throughout the day. Unless it's really hot, I think most of us can't smell each other and guys don't seem to notice either unless we really smell bad. I think we smell more on our periods when we wear pads or menstrual undies because we're basically sitting in a fresh puddle every couple of hours.
I would describe mine as a fishy odor too. It seems to have gotten more noticeable as I have gotten older. I also have never smelled anyone else, and one of my married friends who mentioned how she had been concerned about her husband noticing the smell (not necessarily due to period, but just general down there smell). He assured her nothing bothered him (she was trying to encourage me because we were talking about self consciousness in relationships with men.
Men smell our pheromones. For the most part it smells different to them then it does to us. It would be like me sticking my face in my husbands sweaty armpit and not being grossed out because it does not smell bad to me. He on the other hand thinks his pits are horrid. Pheromones are an interesting thing.
Yep, I got “the ad”. Also my mother went to return a Clinique product due to a skin sensitivity. The lady behind the counter told her “that’s not possible. It’s all natural”. My mothers reply was “ So are mosquitoes”
I did the SAME thing, and the lady at the counter asked “well, did you only use our products or did you mix it?” I didn’t wear makeup at the time, and ALL I used was their face wash and moisturizer, soooo it could only have been one of their products🤦🏼♀️
So here's the deal. I'm a cna I'm also arround privates all the time, and you generally can't smell other people's privates. However you can smell yourself for some reason. So the product really isn't for other people perception of you but it's for your perception of yourself.
Yup. I've encountered lots of smells in my work as a CNA (I'm a med student, I work as a CNA, and am now also qualified to work as an RN, during the holidays). Crotch smells aren't even in the top 10.
Funny. I am also a CNA but I do smell crotch odors every shift I work. Even the men. Other CNAs use cornstarch baby powder to cover up the odor. Very heavy amounts. This causes UTIs. All that is needed is proper, daily cleansing with warm water and soap. I won't even get into the odor of the fungal infections. *Personally, I use Lume' for myself and love it.*
@@freedomspromise8519 If you're smelling distinct odors of crotches, I'm sorry, but your team is not doing enough to appropriately bathe your patients' private parts (especially those who are bed bound or incontinent). It's not like these patients are running marathons behind our backs. Use what you want for yourself, don't push it on other people.
One of the most traumatic things ever said to me (and please believe me when i tell you that it still affects me 20+ years later) happened to me when I was 15. My mom and I were arguing after she picked me up from school one day and she had her best friend with her. I was in the back seat by myself but I was sitting with my feet on either side of the center console, trying to aggravate my mom and her friend by taking up as much space as possible (my feet were apart at that point but my knees were kind of together still) At that point, words were exchanged between my mom and I that pissed us both off more and at that point I slouched down on my seat and did my best impression of man-spreading that I could and huffed out a breath. After about 30 seconds, her friend turns and sees how I'm sitting and proceeds to tell me (and please believe that I'm crying now just remembering this) "Young lady, you need to close your legs because I don't know what you have going on down there but you smell disgusting and it's honestly making me feel sick." When I tell you, that I haven't been the same since, I'm not exaggerating. I was still a virgin at the time but when I did finally become sexually active, how I smelled dominated every aspect of my sex life. Oral sex (receiving) was never something I enjoyed until finally I got to the point where I would not let anyone go down on me. Even just having sex, how I smelled was always in the back of my mind. In my day to day life, any thing I smelled that was gross, I was convinced it was me. Up until recently I never really had mind blowing sex because I was always too self conscious to just let go (please don't think I didn't have good sex, I just never understood what all the fuss was about.) Last year I had the first mind blowing sex of my life because the man I'm with convinced me to let him go down on me and it was pleasure over load. There was no room in my brain for any thoughts other than how amazing it felt and while I'm glad that it's finally happened for me, I'm heartbroken for the girl inside of me who was traumatized (and still has trauma) by one bitter old woman's need to make a child feel small. I still second guess how I smell when I smell something foul, I still have a lot of issues because of my smell, but I'm really glad there are videos like this to let girls know what is happening to their bodies when it comes to smell, is usually normal and not as bad as it seems in their head. Anyway, I'm gonna go cry in a corner now, so thank you for listening to my trauma.
Oh my gosh this is awful! What a wretched thing to say to someone. That would make me very self conscious too. I hate this "if you smell bad that must mean you arent showering" mindset cuz how are ppl supposed to stay fresh and clean all day in this world we live in? Im glad you are overcoming this trauma.
You probably didn't even when badly, remember some other will say anything ( usually issues relevant to themselves) to hurt someone else. So go back to 15 yo you and that moment and say to yourself in your mind, "That's not me, it's probably coming from you." I said say it in your mind as to not encourage/ agitate hateful people. It was never you! I'm trying it use extremely more likely that she's was taking her own insecurities out on you. So your initial premise from this incident was not correct and the unpleasant smells you smelled after that were either from outside of yourself, psychosomatic, or the occasional natural body odor that usually only you can smell. Or if there is a stronger or unusual odor coming from your crotch area you may have BV or something else easily treatable by a competent empathic doctor, and experienced by many. I liked the Wisp® (I think it's called Wisp, correct me if I'm wrong) commercials for bringing these issues out of the closest, un-tabooing genital issues, and more about self-care! 🎉🎉🎉😂❤😊❤ Love yourself, you're beautiful and your beautiful (and I mean this in a non sexualized yet sincere way) to me.
I am so, so fucking heartbroken for teenaged you. And that this woman stooped so low, looks like she was extremely immature, probably emotionally your age if not lower, and felt the desire to shit all over someone for quite some time. Shame your mother had people like her around you, and did not react to what that stank b herself said to you. From my experience with such immature parenting and what I got to know over the years I can tell you with 99% certainty this woman had a nasty infection going on for some time herself. My mother used to (and still sometimes does, which is why I went low contact) do such low things to me (I am eldest) when I was a teen. Women like that are stuck emotionally in whatever place they are, but it's not our problem as children, that were born to this mess, to care about this - it's on them to fix that, and if they don't they better taste the resentment. I admire your maturity so much. Yes, teenagers act out - it's a natural part of growing up - and there are healthy ways to discipline the child. But trust me, acting like that woman did is not one. I hope she cooks with remnants of her own stupidity to this day. With that attitude towards weaker that her, she probably is.
Dear sweet human. I understand your pain. Words do hurt. I was slut shamed by my grandmother (paternal who is now deceased). And that word stayed with me. I wasn't even sexually active. I just wanted to tell a guy I liked that I had feelings for him. Also, when I was in middle school, one of the boys saw me sitting with my legs open in gym class and told me to close them because the war was over. I, too, struggle with worrying if I smell. My heart goes out to you. 😢❤ 🫂
My 9th grade Health teacher told us that douching was unnecessary and that the marketing was misogynistic. This was 1994 and we're talking about a man who was born in 1930's. I'm so grateful for that early education.
@@LordsofMedia if they smell, there's something off. And douching messes with your ph and can make the smell worse if it's an infection. You have to have a balance down there and your body will do that on its own as long as youre eating healthy and not sleeping with nasty partners. Probiotics are also important
Lume is the only deodorant that works on my armpits. I very rarely have troubles, but when I do, it's hell. Nothing stops the itching and I smell like death. I can shower all I want, scrub, throw anything on it. Lume was a miracle for me. I use the unscented
So, as a med/surg nurse, I would notice what I started calling "old lady smell". We'd get older ladies and they would have a certain smell that the younger patients didn't have. It seemed like just wiping with toilet paper wasn't enough after a certain age. Then I hit menopause and started to notice I had this smell. So I tried Lume. Now mind you, I never put it inside anything! Just a swipe down the perineum and it really does help. Just my $0.02 worth.
As someone who has felt like they needed to shower multiple times a day because of either actual excessive smells or my own insecurity, I did invest in the scent-free option and enjoyed it. That being said, I 100% agree that the marketing isn’t my favorite.
Sooo as an overweight curvy woman with thick thighs who sweats more than the average person, I can tell you that the odor that can develop in the bikini line crease area is REAL. Lume is the only thing I have tried that has really worked to prevent this, however I will admit I haven't tried that many things.
Having gone through this myself (particularly when having an outdoor job in the summer), I just use regular -unscented- deodorant. Works just fine and since I'm allergic to tons of perfumes, using unscented puts me more in Mama Doc's happy zone. I can't speak to everyone, of course, but I didn't ever feel the need to go looking for a specific deodorant for the line between my groin and my thigh. It does help, too, to prevent the sweat rashes and issues from being overweight and trapping sweat in rubby spots. However, I generally try to use it as little as possible, especially when shaving there, because it seems like gunking up that area after you just shaved isn't great. (I am well aware of the argument against women shaving all the time, but I find my personal ick from sweat factor is less when I'm clean-shaven in all those spots) For me, the hair traps odor and it's easier to stay cleaner without it. Just some thoughts.
I use a strong (unscented) deodorant that contains aluminium; it takes care of the excessive sweating and thus also the odour. I could never go without it, especially not in summer. it's just regular deodorant though, not for any specific area of the body.
@@cristyvega9935 I hope it works for you! Although I am sure these other people's suggestions might work too. But I find Lume to be easy and long lasting so it works for me!!
I use it as a regular deodorant. It is the only thing my skin will tolerate that works for me, everything else either does not work or gives me horrible pit rashes. If you use it down there it is the only thing I really recommend, the other stuff has harsh chemicals and usually comes in a spray can which isn't good for your lady bits! With Lumee the unscented works just as well as the ones with scent which I love!
Here’s the thing. I think we are more aware of and sensitive to our own odors than others are. It’s not that there’s anything *wrong* with natural body odors, but I do think people- myself included- can be self conscious at times about that. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I really feel like they’re coming from a “if you feel like you smell & it’s bothering you, here’s something that can help”.
I still don't like the way they treat it like something that has to be fixed. No one goes around sniffing people anyway. And if it's bad enough that someone can smell you in a normal setting, you should probably get that checked out. And as someone allergic to fragrance (I get rashes and migraines from everything that has it, laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, soaps, etc), I don't like the thought of putting that in an even more sensitive area, even for people who don't get rashes like I do. I like using wipes instead if it's summer and I need something that helps. Like unscented baby wipe things, that are actually made for that area, and hypoallergenic. Natracare made some nice intimate wipes, and they were great in summer when it would get sweaty down there.
@@jlbeeen I see what you’re saying, totally. But I think that people can do stuff out of their own preference. Like, I don’t need to smell like Tahiti beach, but I’m going to bath and body works to get some Tahiti body spray. Now, I don’t love the smell of my own lady bits when I pull my pants down. I know it’s not an infection, but it’s just strong. Especially when I’m sweaty. I don’t see a problem with buying a product for preference
Yup, the scratch and sniff yields a more concentrated sample than what anyone else will breathe in. Also, you're removing and smelling cells that would otherwise stay put. You are literally smelling your own meat.
I recently purchased a Lume sample pack. I suffer from Dysautonomia, which causes me to sweat profusely, even when in a cool environment. The Lume unscented cream stopped my sweating for up to 12 hours! To me, this is a huge miracle!
i consulted a dermatologist for dysautonomic sweating as a diabetic man who broke his neck and Lume jokes were a plenty there, given how gross the commercials can be. Needless to say, I got a completely different systemic anticholinergic to use in hot weather to avoid sweaty shenanigans and not simply a disgusting deodorant stick promoted in creepy commercials by an even creepier doctor.
Because of my PCOS, I have a lot of discharge. Way more the average woman and I've been told by multiple doctors saying exactly as you did- that the odor is "normal" because of the amount of discharge I have and I have to "live with it" because there's nothing they can do to stop the discharge. I really appreciate everything you do MDJ, but as "normal" as the odor is, I shouldn't be told to live with it. I'm glad there's a product like this- it is something that's needed for people like me. I don't use this product to cover up infections or anything; I know I don't have infections (and I shower regularly lol) but the odor is an annoyance due to a condition I have no control over. A product like lume gives me peace of mind and nose and helps me feel more confident. Just my 2 cents. :D
I'm sorry you deal with that! There should be solutions to that. However, if discharge is the problem, that is more of an internal issue, while deodorant is only for external odors. But if it works for you, that's great!
I don't think it is shaming when people do deal with unwanted body odor in places other than their arm pits. As an athlete all my life and a girl with a larger chest there are odors that this can be useful for. So maybe this isn't for you and your lifestyle, but it is not shaming when people are seriously seeking out products to manage odor from sweating all over. We are not talking inside of anywhere and yes this happens to folks who shower regularly.
I started using it and I love it! I’m on the heavy side. I used to use regular deodorant everywhere and knew it wasn’t really good for my health. When I found lume I was so happy. I can use a deodorant that isn’t harmful to my health. Finally!
When I was reading about this deodorant the gynecologist said she invented this because so many women thought that they had infections because they had normal body odor. Like armpits the area can sweat and cause odor because of bacteria on the skin. The odor comes from the interaction of sweat and bacteria so I believe the mechanism of this is to stop that interaction. I think this appeals to people that sweat a lot in that area. That being said I have tried it, the deodorant works alright, along with using an enzyme wash on any activewear.
After menopause, and because of new medication I am on I have noticed my armpits and where my legs connect to my torso beside my crotch are emitting a strong unpleasant odor that I've never noticed before. Showering helps but its right back in a few hours. Lume keeps me smelling good from shower to shower. I'm so glad I tried it! I like their cheesy advertisements.
WOW. That’s incredible. Totally appropriate for a genital deodorant. I agree 100% with Mama Doctor Jones: if you stink down “there”, just wash yourself. It ain’t complicated.
“This idea that natural is safe is a little bit confusing to me because a lot of things are natural like...idk...dying” lmao. I died laughing. That was the best line of the video
I used to argue with people a lot about "natural" being "safe". One of my favorite examples was cyanide. Imagine my surprise and disgust that it's now a "natural supplement" or "cancer cure" (although I suppose it could cure cancer along with all one's problems permanently). I prefer something that doesn't kill me.
@@mcgovemj , oh I HATE those. "[Other soaps] are classified by the FDA as synthetic detergents. It's not even real soap!" Excuse me, ad company and d-bag spokesman, but detergents ARE soaps, and "synthetic" just means made by chemical process...like the saponification process you use for YOUR products.
Lume honestly changed my life as far as scent confidence goes. My grandmother always had a smell no matter how much she bathed and she didn't seem to notice. I've always been terrified of that, and it doesn't help that ANY amount of sweat makes me smell the same way. I don't put it directly on the vulva, I've found that putting it on my inner, upper thighs works well. I don't smell like that at the gyno because I know what's going to be on display and I wash immediately beforehand, but that's not realistic for all situations that make me self conscious.
What, but the Gyno must know How your crotch is in normal conditions, so she can give you a proper diagnosis. There are lots of treatment, depending of what's causing. From exfoliating, to antibiotics, to Botox. But the doc must know what's up
I’m a fat girl and I definitely get sweat smell in my underboob and underbelly during the day. This stuff works! Also I have hidradenitis suppurativa so I try to stick to natural deodorants to avoid flare ups.
If you use this product and like it, no worries! Truly my only concern with this is the very shame-based marketing and the fact that they sell fragranced products for the vulva, which as a gynecologist I always recommend against. You do you!
Yeah but I already smell and I already feel bad and I need something to stop me from smelling bad. I shower in the morning and the evening and I still sweat so much throughout the day. It's okay in the winter but in the summer my crotch generally smells absolutely awful and it is all just sweat.
They put the results of the clinical study on their website. I assume they don't want to go through all the hoops and bureaucracy required to publish in an academic journal, or that they're going through the process rn since the clinical study was done last year lumedeodorant.com/pages/clinical-testing
I know a few people that use Lume.... None use it around their privates. One uses it because she is allergic to other deodorants (so she only uses it as a deodorant), another uses it for hyperhidrosis, and one uses it on his feet... So I guess it serves some purposes.
The "stenches" and "odors" they are talking about are the ones coming from the apocrine glands. Maybe a video educating people on the different types of sweat and oil glands, where they are located and what they do would be helpful to those who do worry about body odor, and arm them with knowledge so they aren't drawn in by these shame based products.
I have used Lume for years and love it. Personally, I put the tiniest amount on my external V, and I could go an entire day in the summer riding my horses or even working out. At the end of the day, I still am fresh and its incredible. I am always ready for my husband no matter when, and always shower fresh in between showers.
Wow. The commercials never made me feel shame but being told people shouldn't have a problem that I have does. I'm an overweight woman trying to lose weight. I have creases below the belt that smell bad right out of the shower. I also work at a physically demanding job on my feet all day and have foot odor after long shifts. Lume is the only natural deodorant that has worked for me for these areas without causing irritation and I've tried a few. They have an unscented version.
I'm really glad that you have found a product that works for you. I don't think that the issue is that nobody should use the product but instead that it has the potential to cause harm that some people may experience and the consumer should know that in advance.
Same! I posted my own reply to Dr Jones, but I lost 140 pounds, and I’m STILL FAT. I still have yeast problems if I’m not careful. I’ve actually had skin breakdown so badly that I was bleeding in the creases. I had gastric bypass, lost & kept off 140 lbs, but as I said, still fat. And with the 140-lb deflation, more creases than ever. Aquaphor is great for actively inflamed skin, and Lume is great for prevention. I don’t use either of them on mucosal membranes, and it’s FANTASTIC.
How about you ask your doctor for a script for anti fungal, anti candida ointment. It will kill the SOURCE of the smell, which is the fungus itself growing in the crevices.
@@av201 a lot of the time it's not cause of a fungal infection. It's more like how your bellybutton can have a smell if moisture lingers on the skin for too long. I use it for the same reason and it's been super helpful and I would rather use something like this instead of using an antiperspirant which just causes a lot more issues for crevice situations like this. The advertisement for sure is way to absurd but the product is worth it.
I’m a clean and hygienic person, but I get the stress sweat something fierce and yeah, it smells gross. I don’t care if it’s “natural/normal” to smell that way. It hurts my self esteem, and if I can prevent that I feel a lot better. I actually like the ads acknowledging that human bodies can smell weird and it’s ok and that there’s a solution.
@@ninagatechair3524 Oddly enough I don't find myself to be "stinky" in the b.o sense when I sweat from the heat. I guess just washing regularly helps. Do I get smelly, yes, but not the I can be smelled before I enter the room. Even when camping, just taking a wet cloth to my underarms and other bits helps.
Yeah I love MDJ but she does have a very "doctor" view on things since she is a doctor lol. Yeah it's normal but it can def make people very self conscious. I ran track in highschool and I had bad sex ed, my mom told me I couldn't wear tampons bc I was a virgin. So I wore pads. And pads+mestruation+sweat is a nasty gross combo and I was super self conscious of it. A product like this could have helped. I couldn't get tampons but if I told her hey what about this deodorant that would have been ok
I use Lume deodorant and find that it doesn't have a lot of fragrance and yet controls body odor better than anything else I've used in the last 50 years. The body wipes are great for those days when showering just isn't in the cards or for a pits and parts bath after a work out. I suggest trying it before knocking it!
@@EvadoCouto Frankly, it has been perfect, and I only need to use a small amount 2-3 times per week. I get the unscented variety for all of the reasons Dr Jones cites. I don't like it for underarm -- it doesn't really work that great. They'll tell me that I need to "detox" my pits, but I'm not willing to go though that process. (LOL) There seems to be a LOT of people in the comments with strong opinions about a product they've never even tried.
I just ordered some of this the other day for this exact reason. I shower daily but there are certain spots that just don't get enough oxygen, I sweat there, and it makes me self conscious. I'm hopeful that it works for what I need it for.
THANK YOU. I was straight-up offended that she repeeeeatedly said that you just really can’t be sweaty/smelly in your private region if you have good hygiene. Noooobody would say that about arm pits.... so how does an OBGYN think that about private areas. This lady really bothered me in a way that happens maybe once every four months on RUclips. I found her video shame-inspiring, and I didn’t feel that way at all about Lume adds. Obviously there IS a market for this product. I’m not overweight, but in different periods of my life, I’ve sweat in all sorts of places and it’s really annoying and uncomfortable. Right now I get crotch sweat from being stuck at my desk on stressful zoom calls for hours with no break. This doctor just made me feel like a disgusting and unhygienic freak of nature for this perfectly natural phenomenon. Her confident and mocking ignorance was almost surprising to me until I remembered that every once in a while I get a super confident doctor like this who just totally blocks out people’s experiences and forms weird judgments like this one. I feel better now seeing other comments about having a use for this product. 😅
I get what you're saying that it's shaming, but I've showered, and scrubbed and did all the things and then still smelled some funk. This whole "nobody smells unless they don't shower" is a little upsetting as well. I do shower, I still am upset with some odors after. And I don't have an infections. So you know. That hurt :\
yeah, same here. I can shower all I want, I'll still smell after a couple of hours (depending on heat and what I'm doing). it's invalidating to hear that people who shower and wash regularly don't smell because that's just not true. you're not alone =)
Same here, too. If it's a hot day I already feel self conscious about sweating off my sunscreen, I'm tired of worrying about cooch sweat on top of that. After reading this comment and others written by (it seems like) people like me or in similar situations, I think I'm going to try Lume. Thank you for your honesty.
Omg I really feel all your comments. Just the other day at work someone took me aside and complained about my body odor.... I can't tell you the embarrassment. Some people just don't know how difficult it can be for some and it doesn't just boil down to taking a shower 😡
Honestly my BO goes way past even my husband's body wash and same with his old spice deodorant (I've tried) I'm now wondering if I want this product 🤣 it's funny she's basically speaking out about this but hell I gained alot of weight thanks to the depo and change in hormones from having a baby I'm more wanting to buy it then hate on it for some shameless advertising
@@MsZebra-ke8yf Exactly. She is more bent on the " shaming" and the adds being misrepresentative then focusing on her own shaming towards people struggling with body odor...." Don't people just take a shower" she said... Ignorant.
I know this vid is 2 years old but I came across it bc I was looking for reviews on Lume. After watching your video, it actually made me really glad that Lume (and products like it) exists. Unfortunately, there’s a percentage of us with stellar hygiene who still can’t escape the sweat/funk that the groin area can produce. For me, specifically, it’s the only place I sweat the most. My crotch gets funky days before my armpits ever will (the funk can come hours after a shower depending on what I’m doing). So…some of us do need a lil more assistance in that area 🤷🏽♀️it feels good to be seen by a company…and honestly I find the marketing so relatable and hilarious…you probably find it shameful bc you didn’t believe people are walking around with funky crotch….but we are among you, praying you don’t smell us 😂
Same! TMI but it’s literally like a genetic thing in my family that we’re a little more “fishy” smelling down there and makes me self conscious. Especially when me & my boyfriend 😉😉..I’ve been thinking about trying Lume
Have you tried it? I’m 17 and I’ve had the same fishy issue since i was 12. I sweat all the time even when I’m doing really simple things like walking across the street will make me sweat down there and I’ll smell like fish I shower regularly twice a day but as soon as I sweat down there it smells and I’m so embarrassed cuz I know other people are aware of it plz tell me if it works for you.
My sister uses lume in her skin folds because she has always had problems with stronger odor down there. She doesn’t use it on the vulva but around that area and has noticed a big difference and enjoys it
I've been using lume for 2 years and it's been a blessing. its not meant to be used on the vulva... they say to put in on your but crack or inner thigh crease. I think this video give LUME a bad rap for no reason. I'm 3 min in and frustrated because this deodorant has been life changing to me and to other smelly ppl I know. wish she wouldve tested it for herself and done more research
@@laurenrodriguez4983 You’re telling a DOCTOR who specialized in the female nether regions to to research the female nether regions?! Wow. @@Author.Noelle.Alexandria Actually, it doesnt mask the odor, it cerates an environment that paralyzes bacteria so they cant produce odor. I dont like gold bond or other kind of powders because they are messy and are hard for me to apply. And yes if something she has works, she SHOULD tell a doctor

To me it just feels like she made a judgement call with a limited knowledge of this product that seems to irks her. Nothing but negativity working to trigger more negativity. Here I am playing right into it. This video irks me. I purchased this product for my feet because I have hyperhidrosis. This product works, it's not a placebo effect. I didn't inform my family that I had purchased this product. When my family noticed that my feet didn't smell anymore was the ultimate confirmation that IT WORKS!
I have Fibromyalgia and severe depression. I can't make myself shower every day or even every other day. Sometimes I can barely get out of bed. I started using the unscented Lume on my armpits, under my large breasts and feet. It's worked great for me. 72 hrs is true in my case.
@@quinlynnschultz6954 That's not to say I 100% agree with the message in the commercials either. But I do like that you can get an unscented version too.
I newly have Fibro and honestly trying to lose weight is really hard when you are in so mich pain all the time. I’ve gained a lot of weight because of the pain and fatigue. I can do a good workout for an hour and be horribly sore for the next five days. I’m a clean person I’m just chunky and sweaty. The hot flashes are horrible y’all. I’m glad I’m not the only one in the comments that has Fibro.
@@ecueto395 It's overwhelming, esp in the beginning. I have struggled with my weight all my life. I'm trying to work on that too. I've found that following chronic pain and Fibro accounts on Instagram has been helpful. Having relatable and comforting posts in my feed.
So you’re telling me you can’t smell the sweat on someone during an exam?! I always took this as marketed towards B.O not your natural vaginal smell. Personally after having a kid and being curvy, all the creases and folds can definitely smell WORSE than an armpit because they get less air flow. And like some other people, I immediately was like “I have an infection, or something is wrong.” Even my OB said everything was normal. It wasn’t until watching one of their adds that I realized it was sweat. Now I pop a lil deodorant in the fold where everything connects and have 0 issues. So it’s not always a hygiene thing, for me I can take a shower and wear clean clothes but if it’s hot and I’m wearing pants I need deodorant or there’s 100% a smell 🤷🏽♀️ Yes, we should all be able to deal with a little sweaty smell but sometimes it’s not just smelling a little sweaty and everyone just says “shower regularly” which isn’t helpful. I do not like the shaming aspect of the adds, but they are definitely shedding light on something that, as this video shows, doctors don’t directly address often.
Those creases and folds, that are smelling could still become a health issue. I don't know the ingredient and I assume, there is no aluminium, but just a lot of fragrance covering the smell, so bacteria can still develop and (older) people can develop issues there.
@@Pouquiloury really? Does it rash at all? I'm overweight, but nowhere near as big as I was and I have loose skin that tends to hang and it gets smelly sometimes. I've been known to use medicated powder or even take a stick of deodorant and rub it wherever but that can cause skin irritation as well
Getting and using a bidet was life changing for my physical comfort everyday, but most especially around my period. I felt cleaner, had less irritation, and noticed that I smelled fresher for much longer. I personally prefer the handheld style of bidet, despite being subject to the temperature of the cold tap water. The ones that arch attach to the seat and spray you from down near where all the yucky stuff is really squig me out.
As a plus sized girl, I will say yes, even though I shower regularly, I do get sweaty in certain areas, and it does get smelly. Especially in the summer. The most stinky area is under my breasts. Ugh!
@@christylouis2611 I can't believe you're body shaming someone who just shared something personal. Their body is fine and it's their choice what they want to do with it.
@@Adele-195 Thank you I didn't want to interact with someone who is basically a bully. The bacteria on the surface of your skin has literally nothing to do with what a person eats. However, since she mentioned it I am in fact a vegetarian! I also have Fibromyalgia, and that also means that I've cut out a lot of things that cause my pain level to rise, such as soda, and certain fruit juices. I drink a gallon of water a day. I honestly don't know what else she thinks I should do.
I started using lumé as a last resort. I can shower every day and my feet and pits will always have a terrible smell, and I don’t even want to talk about what happens on my period. Lumé is the only thing that has worked for me, and the ads don’t feel shameful to me at all. It feels like people recognizing that stench is a problem. I seriously had to throw out clothes because washing them after a certain amount of time just didn’t work. Lumé is not only a life saver, but has already helped me save money with not having to throw out clothes every few months.
If you have a solid cleaning regimen and still experience that sort of thing, you should probably talk to a doctor. There could be infections, or even a dietary imbalance messing with your body. You could be covering up something serious with cheap perfume.
As someone with Hyperhidrosis, please go see a doctor. There are all sorts of infections and conditions ie hyperhidrosis that could be causing this that could be simply fixed or managed without covering them up. Spent years losing clothing like socks to the battle with Hyperhidrosis until I talked to my doctor and found out what I could do to help my body. 6 months of medicine testing because I have a sensitive body and now I can wear whatever I want. I have absolute freedom and functionality.
I saw ads for this and I didn’t even acknowledge that it was meant to be put on the vulva. I thought they meant putting it on your thighs to avoid chafing...
@@zeineb8870 There are anti-chafing sticks and balms for sale. A popular one is called Body Glide, looks like a blue deodorant container and costs about $10. I found it recommended in so many people's lists about planning for the all day walking at Disney World in the Florida heat. Other companies make similar things for athletes.
@@andromedaspark2241 I was about to recommend body glide as well, it really does work. it's a bit on the expensive side but definitely worth it for summer. I also like to use baby powder when I'm home or not going out for too long (needs to be re-applied more often and also makes your thighs look eerily white)
I use this product on my whole foot after every shower. It doesn’t irritate the skin in this location for me, and I am 100% confident to kick off my shoes. I use unscented, and my feet have literally no scent, 24/7. Don’t dis it until you try it, lol! It’s common sense not to put stuff in places that are easily irritated no matter what the marketing says. This is a great product that does what it says it does when used with care for individual sensitivities.
For folks in a bigger body like myself, or anyone that sweats a lot, or lives in a warm climate - yes you can get very sweaty throughout the day in all areas of the body. It’s frankly shameful to say “I don’t understand, do these people not shower?” People live in all different sizes and sweat-producing bodies and experiences run the gamut- even after showering odors crop up. I’ve never tried Lume personally, but the effort of putting a powder or a deodorant on the *external* sweaty areas preventatively should not be dismissed or joked at just because it’s not your personal experience.,
I think what she means is, as she repeatedly says, she’s never noticed anyone smelling particularly foul. And she’s in a professional position where she would. People go to her when their privates smell. And almost everytime they do, they have an infection. Deodorant won’t cure infections. And she focused on not liking the ads, she said if you feel you need it and it’s not hurting you that you should feel free to use it. But the ads just push this “you stink, buy my stuff” message and that’s gross.
@@NicholeParker It may well be gross if you haven’t experienced truly foul inguinal/groin perspiration odors or anal region perspiration odors. Cotton panties don’t prevent them. Showering doesn’t prevent them. Powders exacerbate the skin irritation the inguinal perspiration causes (it’s acidic, it is an irritant, powder bunches into the crevices, making it feel like sand in the groin, and that really hurts). Humorous advertising, to the people who truly need the product, does not shame, and is not gross. It touches on a truly embarrassing problem and makes those who need the product feel validated and heard. I realize that if you don’t need the product, it might well be a distasteful, disgusting advertisement. But for those who need the product, it has the potential to be life changing.
I live in SW Florida and between May-October it's in the high 90s and into 100s. The rest of the year it's still warm in the 80'. I can shower 15 times a day ( hyperbole) but when it's 105 outside I sweat and stink, it's not attractive and can be embarrassing.. So "basic hygiene" is not enough for tropical climate ppl like me.
I'm a big lady too, so I understand the sweat and stink that happens because of flesh folds. Also the skin problems! I didn't see it as her shaming us. I saw it as her giving us her professional opinion, which is that vulva and general body stink that isn't caused by something that requires medical intervention isn't a problem she's noticed. She *is* an OB/GYN, so her clients are more likely to shower before seeing her and to not have serious issues with hygiene. If she was an ER doctor she might have a different experience since the clients are seeing her for very different reasons. There's also the fact that us laypeople have a very narrow perspective on what we think is normal and okay compared to that of a medical professional who sees a broad range of normal and isn't living in our bodies. I will often think I stink to high heaven because I'm big, sweaty, and have problems with care tasks because of my PTSD. But none of the mental health professionals or doctors I see ever think so. Even if I don't wear deodorant! I think that's where she's going with it instead of a jab at us big folks.
As a sweaty fat chick, lume has been amazing for me. After having my daughter I was sweatier in all these crevices and it stunk so bad and regular deodorant doesn't work for me anymore. It really helps under my boobs, under my belly where my c section scar is, and in that crease where your upper thighs meet your body. I totally agree about a lot of the ads, especially the 6 minute ones, wtf? But for me, it's a totally useful product (I won't say necessary because I won't die from stink)
I think you're also using it the most common way, I know lots of women use deodorant the way you described. I use it in that inner thigh crease too because Florida is hot lol. I just find the shaming in some of their commercials unnecessary.
as a fellow fat chick.. I use the Lume in the same ways... under breasts and in creases... and on hott summer days on my feet before i put them in my cute "no shock" shoes. I think that most "BO" is normal and over use of products isnt good... but sometimes it nice to know that on a hott day that you aren't goanna chance somoni smelling you.
Im not a super sweaty person but i do have a tendency to sweat in ny crotch area and for watever reason i get really bad smelling feet (no matter wat i wear) and i would use it for those. But only for my own personal comfort 😁
I can’t handle deodorants so I tried Native…the aluminum-free/baking soda free version. Still got a terrible rash. Lume is next on my list. I’m tired of having to choose between a rash and smelling like BO.
I’m a fatty, and work 12 hour nursing night shifts. I sweat a lot. I often get swamp ass, swamp crotch, and I swear to god I can smell my own body during these gross times, so I get paranoid others will too. No one wants to be the “stinky coworker”. I use Lume (not on my vulva), but other areas, and it does the trick. So I’ll keep using it.
Yep! I sweat a ton at work, and Lume helps a lot (with odor, not to stop sweating). It works well for me, and keeps the stink at bay. I also have super sensitive skin, and it doesn't bother mine!
I have a super sweaty job and I use lume too! It helps a lot. I also bring extra under garments with me so I can change. It’s an outside job and In the summer the heat index can reach up to 110. Imagine the swamp ass from dancing and jumping around for about 27 minutes during the hottest part of the day around six times a day. The amount of laundry alone is insane.
I understand! I'm bigger so I use it under my belly, and around my boobs. I shower regularly but I notice a slight odor when I get sweaty. I mostly use it when I go to the gym.
“Do these people not bathe?” Well, doc. Due to physical and mental issues I won’t get into, no, I cannot bathe daily. I bought this stuff and held off using it until we had a power outage that lasted for days. It really helped and I’ve been using it in my problem areas (under breasts, stomach fold, inner thighs) ever since. It keeps me feeling a little better until I’m feeling well and able enough to make it to the shower. Would I shower daily if I could? Absolutely. Thanks a bunch.
i’m so glad you shared this because hygiene can be a challenge for a lot of ppl. not to mention, hormones and lifestyle can just result in excess odor that can be uncomfortable for some. i use lume for under my heavy breasts and in my bikini area and it’s really helped. i hate videos like this that are judgemental and don’t account for ppl of all walks of life. hope you’re doing better
I use Lume for my “leg pits”, belly flub creases, and under my boobs, since “normal” deodorant usually has “for underarm use only” on the packaging. I guess they imply that you can use it on the outside of your hoohah, but I generally avoid that. But yeah, lots of people have nooks and crannies that collect sweat and smell in places other than armpits.
I think it’s a personal choice and am glad you found a product you’re happy with. Does it keep you from sweating or keep you from smelling? I get under boob sweat.
@@mayneeyuh8713 it’s a deodorant not an antiperspirant, so you sweat but it fights the stank. I agree with her that putting it directly on the girl bits is dumb. If it’s smelly there, you need a doctor… or a diet change lol
@@hannahzola6821 I get sweaty down there but it's not my hoohah, it would literally be just me putting a small bit at the crease where my thigh is and that would do it. I think that's what they mean? But I wouldn't put it directly on the crotch. That being said, I don't have any but I want some.
Sooooo to the "do these people just not shower" Wow. Tone down the judgment. I have thicker thighs and really big boobs. In the summer time, I can hop right out of the shower, dry off, get dressed and within an hour or two my boobs are sweating and getting stinky my thighs are sweating and it's not great. By the end of the day the stale sweaty musty smell sucks. Lotion dosnt help, showering 2x a day is nessisary but it dosnt help. Everyone's different and body shaming people over stuff they can't control just because you've never experienced it really dosnt help anyone. You think an actual doctor would know better. My only regret with Lume is that I didn't start using it years ago.
Is it possible to love this comment? I am the same, showering multiple times a day, packing washcloths to wash up with every couple of hours when away from home and taking along changes of underwear and stiill had issues. The amount of judgement in the comments is appaling. People act like everyone is the same. If they don't need it, great, just move on all along, no need to pass judgement on those that do.
Yes, it's an ACTUAL problem for me. I can stink a few hours after showering and don't want to shower several times a day. (If I'm going to the gynecologist, I shower right before!)
Thank you for commenting this. I was trying to work up the courage to say that I have these issues. I use spray deordant, powder and perfume all over. I live in the South so it's hot, I'm also plus sized and I've always had overactive glands. My mom took me to the pediatrician at age 2 because I started smelling bad. I've thought about using Lume because I would love a simpler process.
Oh goodness. Same. I don’t get a lot of underarm BO, but my crotch area BO (same scent, different body parts) is persistent. Water alone doesn’t help, soap doesn’t help, cotton underwear doesn’t help but at least doesn’t make it worse ... it’s very frustrating. I wound up with an unscented roll-on deodorant when my normal brand was out of stock a while back, and it’s mildly helpful when I put it on the edges, right where the underwear elastic goes. It feels like that’s where 90% of all my sweating happens (I generally have trouble sweating, but not right there), and I’m sure that’s not a coincidence. I’ve thought about trying Lume just to see if it helps or not. I might if we ever go back to work in a building and I have to worry about how I smell again.
I have a couple things to add. First, I have very sensitive skin and other deodorants just don't work on my pits. Lume has been very helpful in that regard. I also don't need antiperspirant, so that may be one reason why I like Lume. Next, I am fat and wash well every day. However, I have more crevices than a smaller body might have and that can lead to getting stinky faster than I did when I was thin. I don't think being stinky is inherently bad, it's a fact of life, but it does happen and Lume has helped me a lot in that regard. Perhaps considering a perspective from a larger bodied person would have been helpful when discussing the product? But, overall, I think you made good points and I always appreciate your content!
This is a good point and again, if someone uses this and they like it - totally fine - but fwiw I don’t notice “crotch smells” often in any of my patients, no matter their size.
@@MamaDoctorJones I hear you, but I know a lot of women make sure to be freshly showered before they go to the OB/GYN. I definitely do. It's not the most pleasant experience (no offense lol) and the last thing I want to worry about while the doctor is doing her thing is odor.
I am a bigger lady and I do sweat on the crease where my thighs meet my body. That is the only place "down there" I would even think to put deodorant. Everything else just seems like a good way to get an infection or irritation. Thank you for reviewing these products and giving us the real story.
"They do include men and women in this. I would prefer no shame based marketing for anyone but at very minimum at hey're being relatively inclusive. Lume user here! (I was also one of the people who asked for your thoughts on this.) The “stop putting things inside” ad is what convinced me initially, but can confirm it works. I will say this: I’m not concerned about other people getting an odor from me. I know I’m not repulsively stinky. But I don’t like to smell me, so I wanted deodorant, but I’ve always been worried about clogging pores so this seemed like a really good choice. I smell myself less, which is all I wanted, and I don’t use it inside! Sometimes I smell my period more than other times and when I do that, I just put Lume on my inner thighs in that general area and that makes it smell a lot less. So: are we all super repulsively stinky? No. Does this help mild stink? Yes!
omg i got an add from Lume right after you said “i didn’t invent deodorant, we changed everything about it” and the creator first words were that exact line 😭
I just want to point out that stinky privates, at least from my experience, do not come from the vulva, but the creases where my my inner thighs meet my torso. I had problems with oder here when I went hiking in record high temperatures. I was showering every day, but the amount of sweat was causing a noticeable and unpleasant oder. I applied a spare deodorant to the inner thigh creases, and it did take away the oder out on the trail. This product would be useful for those of us out exercising and sweating profusely.
I think Lume has only recently been focusing their ads on crotches, their first ones were far more "this is a natural deodorant that is safe, works well, and you can use anywhere you sweat." There are so many people, including some I know, that shower regularly and still get B.O. I've never read into Lume's ads as being about vaginal scent, but just for BO wherever you get it, cuz summer is hot and even I stink in weird places sometimes (I haven't tried Lume myself yet, maybe one day), especially when I worked in an office and sat in a chair all day (hellooo no airflow). I also never got the feeling that their ads were shaming anyone, but you can't sell deodorant without pointing out that sometimes sweat smells bad, even on clean people. I really like pretty much all of MDJ's videos, but this one felt pretty off the mark for some reason.
I agree. This vid did not sit well for me either. She stated she did not research on the product, didn’t watch the commercials, didn’t look into any of it, yet made a good amount of judging the product and ads. Kinda smells like a potential lawsuit...pun intended.
@@jaakpotts exactly. for a channel like hers it is really disappointing she made a video like this without any research and only prior misconceptions. i think she should say something and acknowledge she messed up tbh. we all do it!
Totally totally agree with you. I guess she didn't see the commercial where the creator was reading letters where one was talking about how her daughter had a condition where her body has a very unpleasant odor and, since using Lume, the odor is gone when she uses it. I think the ads are hilarious. Also, I use it, and I love Lume. It really does work.
Yes 100% agree. This one rubbed me the wrong way. It’s not shaming just simply pointing out a fact. I shower daily and am a very clean and hygienic person, but I use this to combat boob sweat and below the belt sweat just because I don’t like feeling sweaty. Not from smell. Everyone’s skin flora is just different and needs different things. This product meets that need. I don’t see the issues 🤷🏻♀️
I don't have an infection and I shower regularly. I still have trouble not smelling so great. I am overweight which is probably why. I usually really like your videos but this one made me feel bad :/
Me too! She talks about the commercials shaming people, but it seems like she's saying that if you have body odor around your vag, you're just gross and unwashed. I wash my armpits, but I still wear deodorant because I smell between showers. I don't see how this is different.
Yeah, I really don't like her attitude here. I'm fat, have a deep vertical c section scar, huge boobs. And unless I constantly put strong antiperspirant in creases I smell. I shower 2-3 times a day. So yeah I shower and still smell, so thanks for the shaming. The ads are funny and actually gave me hope instead of feeling bad. I actually got lume 2 weeks ago and so far it is working better than anything I've ever tried
Lume is great! Check out the ingredients. Listen to the creator’s story. Very touching. She wanted to reduce antibiotic use. Yes, there are people who smell armpits at deodorant R and D departments.
Personally I love lume. A medication side effect I have is excessive sweating and the last few years I'm very self conscious of my stank. For those of us who shower regularly and have good hygiene but have issues like this, lume just helps us feel more confident that we arent stinkin it up throughout the day. Just my opinion that I dont feel the marketing is shame based but it is definitely marketing to a specific clientele. I love mama doctor Jones and appreciate her so much. I totally respect that as she says she's sees more than her fair share of crotches and is rarely offended by someone's odor, I do however suspect that the majority of women make an effort to freshen up before going to see their obgyn. Just saying, some of us cant shower multiple times a day and lume is helpful
As a bigger girl, I definitely understand getting sweaty and smelly down there. I work in a hot environment, even though I shower everyday, sometimes it's unpreventable.
I also agree. I know from gaining weight through this pandemic that I have become more sweaty and less fresh in multiple areas. I can’t believe I just put that out there on the internet. Cringe. I wish she had digested more of the information. The doctor who developed it said in one of her commercials that women were being treated for conditions they don’t have and she discovered that the odor issue was actually from the outside. You know, the sweaty parts. The Ob/Gyn didn’t invent a replacement for antibiotics. She realized it was a problem antibiotics would not fix. This review seems useless since she clearly didn’t understand the product’s use.
@@TheAimlesslyAmy Yes! I think it's important to understand all perspectives and situations. I shower enough, I just have stinky sweat that I can smell and don’t like. Oh and my anxiety makes me constantly worried that others can smell me too. I think Lume is a great idea. I want what I put on my body to be as good for it as possible and love that this is a more natural option compared to standard deodorant/antiperspirants. I really want to try it.
I am the person the product targets: good hygiene (bathe 1-2x daily), been to the Dr, and tried everything under the sun- still teased since middle school for odor. Some people are just born with extra stank 🤷🏾♀️ Also their ad algorithm is THE WORST, the spamming led me to find all the filters/ blockers available.
I stopped getting them as much after I turned off targeted ads on my google account. I can't remember what the setting is, but it made my ads a lot less annoying
I don't see this as shame based at all. I'm glad you don't have the issue but for those who do, this is a wonderful addition to the market. This video is more shame based than their ads.
To be human is to smell. Some of us don't want to smell like that and that's okay. I personally hate being able to smell my own BO, but that's neither here nor there.
TBH, it's only in recent times that people cared and the only reason that we care is because companies figured out that they could make money convincing us that it stinks and that it's a problem. For the most part, the effort to cover up or eliminate those natural odors are more work than they're worth and can cause serious illnesss.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade not really...deodorant has been a thing for centuries. If not longer. Unless “recent times” is on the millennium scale 🙄 heard of perfume? Really. This product is amazing and the marketing is top notch. To critically review a product and not do a lick of investigation is just so low. I’m astounded at this.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade perfume has an ancient history. We only care more now because we have access to running water and soap and have afforded to not become nose blind to horrendous stench. We also understand the benefits of good hygiene now. PLUS sugar and other things can affect how we smell so we could easily be making ourselves smellier than we were pre-modern times.
@@RedRoseSeptember22 me too honestly... I not like when I'm rank or anything but that's why I like lume because it doesn't actually mask your human scent (especially not the unscented) but it just does away with nasty BO.
So was debating this product because I was having some unfortunate Oder and this ad kept popping up. Turns out it was an infection and I needed an unscented soap and meds. I went to the doctor based on your “if your vagina is sick take it to the doctor” advice. Thanks for helping us weigh pros and cons for things for the betterment of our health!!
MDJ, I am amazed at how tone-deaf you are in the video. It is so unexpected, but we are all human. What a privilege it must be to have not experienced this type of BO on yourself or someone else. This has nothing to do with not showering or bathing properly. Bacteria on the body eat sweat. The waste they excreted has a unique smell depending on the bacteria and the food source. This is why crotch sweat can smell very different from arm pit sweat and different from foot sweat. But why do I have to explain this to an OB/GYN? Just because I have never had sweaty feet doesn't mean I don't think they exist. Every body is literally different. Also, bringing to light a subject that has been kept in the dark is the very opposite of shaming. It let's those dealing with this know that they are not alone and there isn't something wrong with them. Who decided that deodorant was just for arm pits?! We have a whole body for Pete's sake. I just found this video but I am hoping there is a retraction video also somewhere on your channel.
It makes me sad that shaming others for their natural smell or being self-conscious about the natural smell is becoming more normalized because of all the products
I don't think it is shaming, as an adult if I decide to try something it is my choice. If I don't want to smell myself after a workout it is my choice. I feel more shamed after watching this video and reading the comments because I like the product. We are all different and it is okay. P.s. try it for your armpits at least it is way better than drugstore crap.
This was normalized...a lot of years ago. Early mid 20th century? Something like that...This kind of marketing also did in female body hair. I wish it would go away though...
As someone who works around a bunch of vocal men and women they would call anyone out for stinking. Its gross. No one wants to be handling food and putting it in the shelf and smell fish, ass and pits. It might be natural, but like mama Dr Jones said there are a lot of natural things that are bad.
I personally use lume, but I only use it as a deodorant, I like it. It really does work for three days. My two teens use it also. We all have sensitive skin and we have no reactions to it.
Same! I hesitated buying it for so long because of the marketing. But nothing else has worked for my pits (except for antiperspirants which I wanted to stop using) except Lume.
@@amiablehacker IKR! I’m not allergic to it and it really does work! I was really surprised and it last for so long the price is crazy cheap. The upfront cost may sound like a lot, at first, but you use such a small amount and it really does last for 3 days! Crazy cool!
As a person who works outside and gets really sweaty, the external pits above and below can get stinky no matter how clean you start out. If you sweat there it can get stinky there.
@@LeBatteur People say it’s normal but for me A shower and soap just doesn’t do the trick and I don’t know what to do I am 100 pounds not fat tbh I’m underweight but like I will get in the shower I will get out and sometimes not even 30 minutes later I will start sweating extremely bad down there and then a musty smell comes along with it if I put on underwear the underwear get damp and wet from sweat sometimes my pants or jeans will get damp or wet from sweat like it’s extreme and it only happens down there no where else on my body and I am praying to God that lume works I hate that people can be so critical just because they’re not having the same experience
No, this is really a problem. Might not be for everyone - but it is a problem, and for those of us who it is - its VERY self conscious creating. -- and to hear that all we need to do is shower, use hygiene - etc... well what do you think we're doing??
exactly. i stress sweat a LOT and regular deodorants from drugstores don't work for me. i tried lume for the first time a year and a half ago and only switched because i enjoy trying different products (lol) but my boyfriend still uses it. no matter how often i shower, i have odor under my arms, boobs, and crotch area (my thighs). lume and my current deodorant are the only deodorants to actually prevent odor from occurring and don't cause irritation. my boyfriend has super smelly feet despite showering twice a day and using lume daily (now as a preventitive) has stopped his feet from smelling. she should have actually tried the product instead of just looking at the website and judging it. their marketing that she thought "shamed" certain groups is actually what inspired me to try them because what other company is as open about odor problems as they are??
@@ceelojayy I was really hoping she was going to try them and do a review based on that because as an OBGYN I was going to trust her opinion of them not just reviewing the commercial. Viewing the commercial caused me to want to try them but then I saw a lot of claims that the product itself has an odd odor since I'm trying to prevent add odors I didn't know if I'd like it or not. I saw her review and was hopeful that she was going to clinically review the product. Knowing she's a doctor I would trust her review since I knew she wouldn't be a paid spokesperson unlike some of the reviews I've seen online.
Yes! So do I! I B.O. everywhere including down in the girl parts. And, my doctor says it’s normal. Certain stinks are actually normal. Note to miss doctor, vulvas do actually have a natural unpleasant order. Not everyone loves it, period. "I don’t encounter many smelly vulvas" BECAUSE WE SHOWER RIGHT BEFORE WE SPREAD OUR LEGS OPEN FOR THE YEARLY GIRL VISIT! Nobody wants to smell vulva or ball stink, even if it’s natural or normal.
As a bigger girl living in the desert, the smelly crotch is real. It can make daily routines strange since I usually walk my dog in the middle of the day during my lunch or right after work. This means that I need to shower at least twice a day, once in the morning and once after walking my pooch, and my dry skin absolutely hates that. The struggle is real.
If you clean the outer skin with salicylic acid pads for ance, not the inside, but the outside and put on lume you won't have any more trouble. I get the crotch funk because I'm just hot, literally my body temperature is higher and I'm always sweaty. It drives me nuts. No matter how much I washed I couldn't keep it away and the problem wasn't my vagina. The problem was the bacteria on my skin. Just like my armpits. I clean my skin, put on lume, and no more trouble with odor. I can play outside in he heat with my son and I don't smell. Again, don't put the acne pad inside the vulva. Just clean the other area like with an alcohol pad.
exactly, this is what i was trying to say in a comment i posted above. i have to use deodorants and antiperspirants b/c i will get rashes in any place theres a crease in the summertime. i do mostly just the pits in the winter but in summertime when its humid, you bet i'm slathering stuff on everywhere theres a fold or a crease in my skin lol. ( im not overweight, im about 140lbs but still everyone has natural places where the body creases .) i dont use it on my ACTUAL crotch but many kinda refer to that whole area as a crotch area and ill use products in my thight/groin which is where your thigh creases into your pelvic area, then the pits, under the boob, even behind my knees sometimes in the summer cause of those damn humidity+sweat rashes .
I traveled recently from out west to the east coast and this took me over two days with delays and aircraft maintenance. I use LUME body wash and deodorant, and LOVE IT. Arriving to meet family after years apart was a joy. I was NOT overly embarrassed by the way I smelled. I even mentioned this to my sister and even asked her to take a smell of my arm pits and she was shocked. She knows how I have struggled for years with his issue after using a variety of products including body powers that never worked very well after a few hours.
When you went to the website and started to read the line "We didn't invent deodorant, we changed everything about it" the ad interrupted you with the creator of Lume saying literally that same sentence lol
I will say that after trying so many "natural" deodorants and having none of them work for especially after having my second child, I am amazed at how well Lume works. Every other deodorant I've used is fine for the first few hours but then I feel gross and wish I could shower 2-3x a day. With Lume I always feel fresh, even if I don't get a shower every day. Mommin' is hard and showers just don't always happen every single day.
I've had the same experience with lume because my BO is stronger than most natural deodorants and I don't want to have to shower more frequently. I was surprised how against it she was right out the gate in the video since my experience with it was actually great.
I think I saw an add for this, might have been another deodorant, but I’m pretty sure it was this one. There was a little girl with some kind of chronic illness that caused her to smell very very strongly, to the point that her teacher told her mother she wouldn’t be able to stay in her class because it was so distracting. This deodorant was the only thing that stopped the odor. I don’t think it’s really necessary for private areas, but can definitely see how it would be useful for underarms, and feet. There are lots of people with conditions that cause underarm odors no matter how much a person showers, and I honestly feel like you we’re suggesting that if people have an odor, they must not be clean. You asked multiple times during this, “do these people not shower?”, and I think that was slightly insensitive.
Agreed👏 reminded me of when people think fat automatically equates to lazy/never exercises or unhealthy, while people can have disorders that make them retain weight
You do know that was likely an actor and the story was made up, right? Having people who seem "real" and unrehearsed is the current trend in advertising. There's literally nothing in the active ingredients that would make Lume more special than any other type of deodorant, and there are no laws in the US against making that type of false claim in commercials.
@@kukui79 well besides the fact that it literally has amazing reviews, I've used it for over a year and no other deodorant has come close to being as effective. Why is this so offensive to you? Its weird. The little girl wasn't an actor, have you done literally any research before posting your comment acting like you are so intellectually superior to people who have ACTUALLY used the product?
I am only interested in using this product as a natural deodorant for my armpit/under arm area. I have used many different deodorants and natural solutions, and I shower every day, but I still have a very strong under arm odor. I always have. I also sweat almost constantly from stress and anxiety, so when I tried this product for the first time and it worked for over 24 hours I was impressed. Yes, there was sweat, but there wasn’t a terrible odor and my clothes didn’t smell terrible at the end of the day. I haven’t been able to find a single men’s or women’s deodorant that works for me for longer than maybe a couple hours before Lume. No more permanently stinky shirts or complaints about my regular/stress sweat smells.
As a happy Lume user, I feel the need to chime in. No, I don't use it on my lady parts. I do use it on my underarms. It does the job and at the moment is the ONE deodorant I can use without getting a rash. I have yet to pinpoint the exact cause of these rashes, so every few years I have to go through a horrible itchy trial and error period to find a deodorant I can wear. I find one and use it until the manufacturer either changes the formula of discontinues the product. I hope Lume stays around for a while.
I agree with you @JuliHath. Peri menopause has caused my chemistry to change and regular deodorants don’t work anymore. Lume controls my stanky underarm odor and I am not allergic to it.
I can't use regular antiperspirants without getting cysts in my underarms, natural deodorants don't last, and I tried the square salt deodorant. One thing I did find is pit putty. I've only bought it from whole foods. It's arrowhead powder and essential oils.
I feel like she did no preparation for this video, no research. All she ended up doing was shaming the women that have big thighs and sweat a lot. Just because she doesn’t have this particular experience with her body doesn’t give her the right to shame me because I do. It’s just like wanting to use deodorant for your armpit BO. I just wish that she didn’t shame me and tell me that it’s not a thing and I just need to shower more. I am not a dirty person, I just have sweat other places than my underarms. Idk I’m just really upset by this. I already body shame myself enough since I’ve gained weight, I don’t need her to body shame me too.
Lume understands me! 😂 Sadly this video makes me feel worse, I shower, and I still have BO challenges from time to time…Lume makes me feel heard and understood! I love it! Consider yourself lucky Dr.
For real. She's alil condescending. Lol living in Texas, it's nice to have something extra to keep us fresh even though I shower twice a day. I enjoy the commercials too😁
I had to come find this video on my second account to come say: I'm a big lady, and my thighs cover my pubic region when my legs are closed. So "down there" doesn't get to breathe a lot- cotton panties or no. (Though I only wear those with a cotton gusset at the least). Also being on an SNRI, I sweat a lot. I'm fact, I've always had a problem with sweating even in my teen years. And I always hated when I sat with my legs open because the sweat would have a distinct smell. Naturally I wore deodorant for my pits, but the creases on either side of my pelvic girdle (and my gluteal cleft as I gained weight) always smelled like my pits would if I hadn't put on deodorant. As a bedside RN, I squat and kneel frequently to pick up things patients dropped, empty foleys/drains, pickup linen I threw aside when changing an incontinent patient, etc. And it always. Smells. To the point that I started changing my underwear halfway through the day to keep the sweaty smell at bay. Lume helped that. It doesn't take away the sweat, but the smell that the sweat makes. I'm way less self conscious at work and during intimacy knowing my size and natural body chemistry isn't going to make me smell like a pile of dirty gym socks. Edit: recently subbed on my other account as well and already love your channel. I just wanted to put my two cents in because I was confused that you as an OBGYN had never smelled a stinky groin or vulva.
I'm gonna let you in on a little secret MDJ. Most of us shower less than an hour before going to the doctor, so that you don't notice odor. But a lot of people have crotch odor (showering usually takes care of this) but there are people who produce more sweat than others, and normal deodorants don't always work for the amount of time you need. Since having children I have noticed worse sweat smells than I thought possible and tried lots of deodorants, including your favorite (native) and nothing has helped to not ruin my clothes with this sweat smell except Lume. I'm not sure what it is about it, but it has saved me from actually hating myself, and needing a whole new wardrobe. While I understand that you may not like the marketing, for those of us who deal with sweat conditions this has been a life changer.
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret, just because your visits are planned doesn’t mean the only people I see are those with scheduled visits. 😉 Emergency and unplanned visits make up nearly 1/4 of my patients. I’m very glad lume helps you and, as I iterated in the video, I hope if you like it you continue to use it. We can like different things. :)
I am one of those excessive sweat in that area people. For an unplanned visit I clean my parts, even if that means with a paper towel and hand soap in the bathroom in the office. Because I don't want someone's head in that. MDJ have you asked your patients if they have done that?
IDK about you but I have had deodorant ruin my clothes a lot more than sweat. Most laundry detergents get rid of sweat smell, but that white paste from deodorants fades my black tshirts faster than anything. I feel gross (especially now that I am pregnant) about putting something on my croutch that is going to mess up my ph and I'm pretty sure when you have sex the messed up ph odor doesn't go away with a lotion. I also think it is a little ridiculous that men are not as pressured to smell like flowery bs when they sweat worse than we do in most cases, especially down there and yet our normal scent from our vaginas has to live up to some unrealistic expectation and then they make a product to solve a "problem" that is just putting more forgien poisons into our bodies. I hate that you are hating yourself because you may have a sweat condition but marketing a product to demonize female odor is poisonious and backwards thinking.
@@prettyvallie4371 I can understand your thinking here. And I agree that the shame based marketing here can be harmful. But at no point does it say to put it in your body. This goes on the out side (regular skin) the place where the leg meets the pelvis kat least that is where I put it because I have noticed an increase in sweat in that region. I don't put it in anything. But I have tested this on numerous black clothes and it has always washed out (if there was residue on the clothing). It usually dries on the skin by the time you put on a shirt, though that is just my experience. But yeah I understand your struggle with deodorants and clothes... I have had a lot of time over the years to try different brands and styles but Lume for me has been the one to stand out. Use what you feel works best for your body.
Hayat J, some of their ads specifically say not to put it inside, but the recent ads strongly imply that the odor is from the genitals, not groin sweat, which is what causes swamp crotch. Just like how nobody listens when Q-tips say not to use them in the ear canal, many people who think their vaginas stink are definitely going to rub it inside. They really need to fix their ads to clarify that the product is for groin odor, not genital odor.
Ever since going through puberty, I’ve used every deodorant and anti-perspirant out there, and Lume is the first product that works and helps me. I don’t feel that the ads are shame based or sexist-they are FUNNY and true. The ads speak to the reality of my life. Almost all of us hate body odor and many of us can’t go all day without odor issues. I wish Mama Doctor Jones had tried the product before doing a vent session about it. Feel like this was more about her dislike of the ads vs her opinion of the product since it doesn’t seem like she’s tried it. Love her videos, but this one missed the mark for me. I honestly felt shamed by Mama Doctor Jones for “only” needing good hygiene to not smell - please live a day in my skin!
I use this deodorant! Mostly for my pits, but I work an office job where I basically sit in one spot for 8 hrs...& sweat happens. Which I personally don't like to smell when I go to the bathroom. I use this more for my own nose & not really because I'm worried anyone else might smell anything; I know they won't. So far I've not had any issues (but I don't have super sensitive skin) & it actually does help keep odor at bay for at least 2 days for me. I'm definitely happy with the product so far. Honestly when I first saw the commercial about "down there odor" just being because of sweat I was like "ahh good at least we're admitting that mammals sweat & that sweat stinks but is natural".
I actually bought this product for my feet. Most of the time my feet are pretty killer. So after my daily shower I’ll apply it to my feet and when I remember to, it DEFINITELY helps. My husband approves. But, I don’t generally have an issue with odors in other places so my feet are my exclusive concern and it seems to hit the nail on the head in that area.
I think part of the self-consciousness comes from the fact that straight women are very rarely in a position to smell other women's odors. I think if there was like a once a year crevice sniffing festival, everyone would have a much better baseline of what an average smell is, and be much more confident in themselves. But yes as I was typing that I did become aware of how weird it was and how unlikely it is to come about 😅
I am fat, and my fat folds sweet and it stinks. So I bought Lumē and I got the worse infection under my boobs and and in my fat skin folds from my my by legs and the infection smell was way way worse then the smell from bo. And the smell from the unsented was so bad. It was awful.. I do not recomed using it at all. I recomed never using it. I have read so may reviews where others have gotten a viral infection also and you will Never see lumē post them on there site they only post the 4star and 5 star reviews despite all the 1 star reviews. And the return garentyee is a lie. No money back on tubes. Period. Please don't waste your time and money.
Most people who use lume aren't using enough or over the entire area. Moreso I'm interested if you could explain to me how you got an infection from using lume? From my understanding infection comes from bacteria or viruses entering the body through an opening. Having a break in the skin and being exposed to a pathogen. Since the surface of the skin is covered in bacteria, bacterial infections could be caused by a break in the skin alone. However since viruses cannot live apart from a host for very long a viral infection also requires a person to be exposed to another host of the virus. So no, lume did not cause any viral infections. Also sidenote: using spell check will make you sound more credible in the future
@@kittenseven4269 look, I have had wonderful experiences with the product, but shaming someone's spelling isn't cool. We don't know this person's story, and most of their message was clear so why mock them?
Lora, I have similar issues and our family pharmacist recommended a 1% Hydrocortisone cream - it works a charm. You might want to ask your relevant healthcare provider if it might be for you? Very best wishes and thank you for your honest and forthright opinion it can be scary for us to share our experiences, but I'm certain you will have helped so many people by sharing your story
I work outdoors. I shower everyday after work and "wash up" multiple times a day throughout the day. Still the next by lunch; I'm a sweaty and stinky mess. I feel like half of modern hygiene advice is made for women who sit at desks in the A/C all day. "Don't use cleansing wipes on your face" "Don't put odor control down there." "Don't clean your hair everyday" That must be nice advice for those who have never touched a pair of work boots. We get swamp ass out here, and we need products for that.
Some of us have PCOS and our chaotic hormone levels, oily skin, and fluctuating blood sugar levels cause a really imbalanced bacterial biome on our skin and it leads to extra odor. Showering regularly isn't a cure all for odor.
Thank you! I actually was coming in here to say something similar, it doesn't matter how much I shower, I'm still very stinky from sweating all day. I work with toddlers and we go outside and I sweat! It happens, people do get stinky down there!
I felt way more shame watching this video than I ever did watching a Lume ad. Those ads never felt like they were targeting women or shaming them it felt like they were calling out to me and suggesting a solution to a problem I already knew I had for a long time. Sometimes even if you shower you still sweat and it still smells, and it makes me feel incredible self conscious even if I know that probably nobody else can smell it. Lume seems to be working for me and it makes me feel 10x more confident than before, I never have to wonder who can smell my BO because I simply don’t have it anymore.
I totally felt the same way..maybe it's her delivery. 🤔 I actually like Lume. Just started using it. I live in Texas and it's hot af out here. I shower twice a day but w the humidity you like to just have a lil something extra to keep the stank away.
Agreed , to start by saying who has this odor ? Is alienating of the fact that some people’s republic uncomfortable with the smell throughout the day. Maybe her clients come in right after they shower for obvious reasons.
This might have been said before, but: Most of the "smell" is a combo if sweat and urine. That's why a lot of us carry a handful of wet paper towels into the bathroom stall with us. And "unscented" Lume stings and smells like Lanacaine.
Everyone I know takes a shower or cleans themselves before a scheduled OBGYN appointment. People that enjoy Lume may enjoy it before a 15 hour physical labor job, camping, hiking, or I'd they have a medical condition that causes smells. My cousin had a medical issue that caused awful BO . He would take a shower and literally step out smelling bad. No deodorant worked but Lume did and that brought confidence back
I also agree that suggesting people who struggle with body odor in their private parts/other than the pits are simply unclean and need to take a shower was insensitive. There are so many exceptions, medical conditions, people who just have it. Just because you haven't noticed it doesn't mean the people who buy Lume don't. I feel like most people who love this product acknowledge that others probably don't notice the odor, but they do, and using Lume makes them more comfortable in their own skin.
There is one exception which is a medical condition of not metabolizing certain things but it’s very rare. Most of the time, diet plays a huge role in your bacterial composition (and therefore smells being good or bad). Everyone gets bad armpit sweat for sure. However, if even after showering you still have bad odor or it’s everywhere on your skin, you should look into your diet. Eating too much meat or other products can make your sweat smell worse. It’s a lot like urine in that regard. I also found that exercise really helps people sweat cleaner (less bad smells). If you sweat often and rehydrate, it’s more bland. Just like urine again! The more you hydrate, the less dark it is. Try looking at what you eat and make sure to hydrate / eat healthy. I’ve noticed a huge difference.
@@cosmiccanine3467 Nothing. Some of us have this opinion and if you don't agree, that's fine, but attacking someone as insincere doesn't help your flaccid attempt at a counterpoint.
@@JDMimeTHEFIRST You mean like garlic and cauliflower? I have noticed that. Sound like you are prejudiced against meat. Yes, meat-eaters smell different than vegetarians. And BTW, some water from public water systems irritate the heck out of my bladder. I don't think this venue is big enough to address these issues. I am old. I have lived it all including clueless doctors and nurses.
I think it's worth mentioning that Mama Dr. Jones has a sponsorship with Native and Native and Lume are in competition as natural deodorants. Just something to keep in mind. I've tried Lume and found it really helpful personally for pit BO so I was surprised she came out so hard against it immediately.
I have used both Native and Lume. I like Native's advertising, packaging, and fragrance so much more than Lume. Unfortunately, Native does not work as well for me as Lume.
Hmmm. If this is correct, a professional is to open with a conflict of interest statement and state their relationship with the potentially biased product before offering their clinical opinions
Ohhhh! It all makes sense now. I couldn't understand why she was bashing a product she had never used. Also, I immediately knew she probably didn't do any research since she couldn't pronounce Lume correctly. It tells me that she probably didn't watch any of their commercials beforehand.
You a right on the money.... Labor & Delivery nurse for 30+ years.... I was wondering where all these stinky vulvas are?!?!
That sounds like a hypeman at the beginning of a song ? "Shout out to all my stinky vulvas !"
Hidden in the shaming tactics of misogyny 😂😂
What's misleading is the use of the word 'odor' and "stench" to describe a normal SCENT indicative of the presence of certain hormones. A pubescent child may be concerned upon discovery of these changes, and too shy to ask, finds a deodorant an easy solution.
When I was in middle school, I was really self conscious of my lady smell when I sat (I just smell like a fish market around my period). Anyway, one day one of my classmates said to me “Yeah I have that too but I don’t think other people can smell it. Have you ever smelled anyone else?” and then I wasn't self conscious anymore.
That classmate was awesome!!
I have absolutely smelled other people's sweaty crotches wafting up from their clothing.
Yep, I got “the ad”. Also my mother went to return a Clinique product due to a skin sensitivity. The lady behind the counter told her “that’s not possible. It’s all natural”. My mothers reply was “ So are mosquitoes”
So is poison Ivy
Hemlock, Ricin, etc
I did the SAME thing, and the lady at the counter asked “well, did you only use our products or did you mix it?” I didn’t wear makeup at the time, and ALL I used was their face wash and moisturizer, soooo it could only have been one of their products🤦🏼♀️
Your mother is savage and I want to be her friend!
😂🤣
So here's the deal. I'm a cna I'm also arround privates all the time, and you generally can't smell other people's privates. However you can smell yourself for some reason. So the product really isn't for other people perception of you but it's for your perception of yourself.
That’s really interesting, and good to know, thank you.
Yup. I've encountered lots of smells in my work as a CNA (I'm a med student, I work as a CNA, and am now also qualified to work as an RN, during the holidays). Crotch smells aren't even in the top 10.
Thank you! A lot more products are built on personal perception than people realize. Not everything needs to be done for others' benefits.

After about 30 seconds, her friend turns and sees how I'm sitting and proceeds to tell me (and please believe that I'm crying now just remembering this) "Young lady, you need to close your legs because I don't know what you have going on down there but you smell disgusting and it's honestly making me feel sick."
When I tell you, that I haven't been the same since, I'm not exaggerating.
Love yourself, you're beautiful and your beautiful (and I mean this in a non sexualized yet sincere way) to me.

What a king
That's amazing 😲😲

I have come across a couple STANK poons that could have really used some care. Douching is necessary for some dames.
@@LordsofMedia if they smell, there's something off. And douching messes with your ph and can make the smell worse if it's an infection. Lume is the only deodorant that works on my armpits. I very rarely have troubles, but when I do, it's hell. Nothing stops the itching and I smell like death. I can shower all I want, scrub, throw anything on it. Lume was a miracle for me.
I use the unscented
I might use it, because i itch so bad, and its terrible... Im gonna get it.
I would get death crotch at the end of my work shift. I just sweat so much down there.
Yikes
@@gracefulmushroom4284 I itch so bad with regular stuff. I love Lume.
Same. Post partum bo is real. Nothing helped me. I use lume everywhere, and it works. ❤ it so much.
They aren't advertising to older ladies. They're promoting not taking baths.
Even a handheld peri bottle too. I would get older patients to use them in the hospital.@@opposedhealer1826
Me too! Your comment just cemented my purchase!
I really feel like they’re coming from a “if you feel like you smell & it’s bothering you, here’s something that can help”.
bacteria is there unless washed, if you wash privates daily and then use Lumi you're fine
Right on.
So glad I saw this! I have the same issue and the sweating is embarrassing at times. Did you try it on your face?
i consulted a dermatologist for dysautonomic sweating as a diabetic man who broke his neck and Lume jokes were a plenty there, given how gross the commercials can be. Needless to say, I got a completely different systemic anticholinergic to use in hot weather to avoid sweaty shenanigans and not simply a disgusting deodorant stick promoted in creepy commercials by an even creepier doctor.
That honestly sounds amazing! I’m glad this exists at least so that people with the same issue can find relief. Sweating is really uncomfortable.
I have PCOS too and I agree with you.
As someone with PCOS... THANK YOU! I couldn’t agree more.
I'm sorry you deal with that! There should be solutions to that. However, if discharge is the problem, that is more of an internal issue, while deodorant is only for external odors. But if it works for you, that's great!
@@andrewsld ...the discharge comes OUT of the body, though? It isn't causing an issue when it's inside, after all.
This wouldn’t help with discharge smells though? This is for the crease where your leg is.
Yesss. Larger chest area. High five 🙌
100%. It’s common knowledge/sense that anywhere that gets hot and has skin can get sweaty. 😂 How is that so hard to comprehend?
I started using it and I love it! I’m on the heavy side. I used to use regular deodorant everywhere and knew it wasn’t really good for my health. When I found lume I was so happy. I can use a deodorant that isn’t harmful to my health. Finally!
It’s not even about showering regularly, it’s really your diet that matters. Your bodily fluids smell like whatever you’re putting inside if you.
@@christylouis2611 I like asparagus. That does a number on body fluids! 😬😂

You do you!
We're you able to find the study?
The coconut scent is my fave right now but I want to try the Lily scent next. Which one do you like the best?
Thank you!
Right? I feel like I shouldn’t have this problem now??
I'm a big girl too and Lume has been the only thing that has worked for me ALL OVER!!
I'm really glad that you have found a product that works for you. I don't think that the issue is that nobody should use the product but instead that it has the potential to cause harm that some people may experience and the consumer should know that in advance.
Because I’m fat, I started using Lume to help keep my crevices dry to cut down on yeast infections and so far so good.
I had no clue this was a thing, thanks for the information
It works! I feel like she didn’t thoroughly research the product at all.
I've been using mineral spray, which is nice cause I can use this all over. So far so good. Doesn't really stop the sweating, but helps with the smell

Amen sister. We all have natural challenges. If a deodorant makes you feel better, then go for it!
Yes!! Exactly!!
Those creases and folds, that are smelling could still become a health issue. I don't know the ingredient and I assume, there is no aluminium, but just a lot of fragrance covering the smell, so bacteria can still develop and (older) people can develop issues there.
That's why I use tea tree oil mixed with unscented coconut oil in my creases and folds. That will stop the bacteria as well.
Ugh!
I use talc free body powder under my boobs and it really helps :)
@@MissJessicaSNSD I've tried that. It doesn't help.
You better eat cleaner to smell better
@@christylouis2611 I can't believe you're body shaming someone who just shared something personal. Their body is fine and it's their choice what they want to do with it.
@@Adele-195 Thank you I didn't want to interact with someone who is basically a bully. The bacteria on the surface of your skin has literally nothing to do with what a person eats. However, since she mentioned it I am in fact a vegetarian!
I know one day in middle school my friend smelled like rotten meat.
Agree it works very well for me and I think it is a funny way to normalize it- not shameful at all
It works very well for me too. Ads are funny and not sexist. It specifically says it's not due to lady parts.
In their earlier ads, I assumed they meant the groin area, not the external genitalia.
Would ve been more useful if they created that instead
Just use baby oil on your thighs. Or a spray body oil.
This is a great product that does what it says it does when used with care for individual sensitivities.
at first i read the title as "We need to talk about Lube Deodorant" and i was sincerely terrified.

Someone in the hygiene industry: *furiously scribbles notes*
🤣😅
The crossover we never expected
Hmm, slippy
Exactly my thoughts...
Yes after pregnancy I became so sweaty all the time. Lume has helped me so much!
Im not a super sweaty person but i do have a tendency to sweat in ny crotch area and for watever reason i get really bad smelling feet (no matter wat i wear) and i would use it for those. But only for my own personal comfort 😁
Same, same, same! I seriously thought I was weird for putting deodorant in those spots. So glad to know I'm not alone.
Hey twinsie. I use my lume for underboob sweat. I’m always so sweaty, especially since covid!!
@@katieamarsh yessss underboob sweat! The worst. Mine smells 10x worse than my armpit sweat.

Yes!!! My "leg pits" always get super sweaty in the summer and I would love a product that keeps them from getting stanky.
Lose some weight
As you began saying “we didn’t invent deodorant, we changed everything about it” I got a Lumē ad starting with the same sentence..
Omg! I was reading your comment, realized I was at the same spot in the video, and then got the SAME F***ING AD!
I got the same ad 🤣

Yes, it's an ACTUAL problem for me. I can stink a few hours after showering and don't want to shower several times a day. (If I'm going to the gynecologist, I shower right before!)
Same. When she was saying that "oh smell really isn't this big of an issue for most people." Must be nice....
Same. After I hit 30 I went from never needing deodorant to smelling a few hours after showering. I ordered lume to try out and I'm hoping it works 😬
@@kyolicious exactly where I deodorize too! I call that area (to myself, don't talk about this much lol) my leg pits. 😂
Yes this!
Yep!

Me too!
Me too lol i thought they are hijacking Mama's video!!!
Yep. Same. 😂

Same. I really feel like she decided to hate the product before she even began learning what it was. Super biased.
I usually really like your videos but this one made me feel bad :/
same here. I shower more often than most, but I sweat so much that I'd end up stinky anyway if I didn't use deodorant. you're not alone in this!
Me too! She talks about the commercials shaming people, but it seems like she's saying that if you have body odor around your vag, you're just gross and unwashed. I wash my armpits, but I still wear deodorant because I smell between showers. I don't see how this is different.
@@melaniewilliams8838 Yes! Same! When she said, “do these people not bathe??!” it made me fee bad. I can’t help that I get swamp crotch. 😔

I dated a guy years ago whose feet stunk even after showering and scrubbing them. I hope he found this.
Aww, me too, or at least something that works
I totally agree. I think she's ridiculous in bashing a good thing. Just don't put it on tender parts...just the creases.

I'm so sorry. That must make life so much more challenging for you.
I don't see this as shame based at all. I'm glad you don't have the issue but for those who do, this is a wonderful addition to the market. This video is more shame based than their ads.
I've never used it but I have always interpreted it to be used in the groin area for sweating between your leg, not vaginally smelling.

Agreed. Putting the idea into people’s heads that the coworkers are worried about their crotch fumes.
This was normalized...a lot of years ago. Early mid 20th century? Something like that...This kind of marketing also did in female body hair. I wish it would go away though...
Just because you're ok with being funky doesn't mean that most people are. I don't want to smell anyone's b.o
Crazy cool!
@@what5579 So true! I keep getting emails from Lume like "hey you wanna buy more?" I'm like, no I'm set for a year!😂
the mandelic acid and uncented, three day bacteria inhibition both sound useful, as a man who seems to be an excellent host for bacteria...
As a person who works outside and gets really sweaty, the external pits above and below can get stinky no matter how clean you start out. If you sweat there it can get stinky there.
Then shower after you’re done working. Getting sweaty and having body odors is perfectly normal.
@@LeBatteur living in humid south east Texas, we get sweaty just walking to and from the car. It may be normal to get stinky but I’d rather not.
Sweat doesn’t stink. It’s the bacteria on the skin
Body chemistry, health and diet will affect the smell of your sweat.
OMG you crack me up... I am an RN and everything you said here is exactly what I was saying with a group of friends! 100% right on Doc!
No, this is really a problem. Might not be for everyone - but it is a problem, and for those of us who it is - its VERY self conscious creating. -- and to hear that all we need to do is shower, use hygiene - etc... well what do you think we're doing??
I agree! Like some people stress-sweat more, and that stuff isn’t nice smelling.
exactly. i stress sweat a LOT and regular deodorants from drugstores don't work for me. i tried lume for the first time a year and a half ago and only switched because i enjoy trying different products (lol) but my boyfriend still uses it. no matter how often i shower, i have odor under my arms, boobs, and crotch area (my thighs). lume and my current deodorant are the only deodorants to actually prevent odor from occurring and don't cause irritation. my boyfriend has super smelly feet despite showering twice a day and using lume daily (now as a preventitive) has stopped his feet from smelling. she should have actually tried the product instead of just looking at the website and judging it. their marketing that she thought "shamed" certain groups is actually what inspired me to try them because what other company is as open about odor problems as they are??
Agreed, those of us who have extra smells wash right before we see the gyn, this is why she hasn't been exposed.
Have you tried lume? I live in Tucson and I absolutely love this stuff. You won’t regret trying it.
@@franny5295 Thank you for the tips!
Usually "crotch odor" is more like the crease between your crotch and leg. It's mostly just like I've been working out or just sweating outside
Yeah!
Yes.
And some of us sweat more than others.
Yes and I hate sitting there at work and being able to smell myself. It's so gross! I get boob sweat a lot too and this helps so much with that.
exactly, this is what i was trying to say in a comment i posted above. i have to use deodorants and antiperspirants b/c i will get rashes in any place theres a crease in the summertime. i do mostly just the pits in the winter but in summertime when its humid, you bet i'm slathering stuff on everywhere theres a fold or a crease in my skin lol.
Same for me;🤣
It did it to me too!
I got the ad before I even clicked
Me too! 😂
And here too...
I tried natural deodorants and they quit on you so quick. All you did was walk from our car to your desk and your pits are dripping! Sad.
You asked multiple times during this, “do these people not shower?”, and I think that was slightly insensitive.
some ppl do not shower that often and don't
even bother to check whether their smell causing discomfort..I'd seen plenty
That’s Lumé
She was a little girl named Maren with propionic acidemia. Her Mother described her smell as a “fresh fish market”
@@holyshihtzu PLEASE DO NOT USE ESSENTIAL OILS ON YOUR SKIN!! All these companies claim they’re safe but in reality they can cause burns.

@@Andyyoureastar Thank you for sharing! See these are the kind of tips we need! 😄
I had to come find this video on my second account to come say:
I'm a big lady, and my thighs cover my pubic region when my legs are closed.
‘Probably the only time being excluded is a good thing’ my non binary ass cracked up at that
Same!

Same I completely understand . This is actually the first video I've watched from her and I think she was to negative .

@@koi.in.pond3149- her other videos on ob/gyn related issues are great. This one was an anomaly.
I get sweaty hands and feet because of my anxiety meds, might check it out. Does it keep them from sweating?
@@ezra55595 no, it's just a deodorant, not antiperspirant

I think part of the self-consciousness comes from the fact that straight women are very rarely in a position to smell other women's odors. I think if there was like a once a year crevice sniffing festival, everyone would have a much better baseline of what an average smell is, and be much more confident in themselves. But yes as I was typing that I did become aware of how weird it was and how unlikely it is to come about 😅

Agreed
Agree as well .
Thank you! I actually was coming in here to say something similar, it doesn't matter how much I shower, I'm still very stinky from sweating all day. I work with toddlers and we go outside and I sweat! It happens, people do get stinky down there!
Agreed. You think fish have landed.
Agreed. Also, most women are self conscious of this going into a OBGYN appointment and basically shower right before going in 🙋🏻♀️
I felt way more shame watching this video than I ever did watching a Lume ad.
I feel the same!
100%!!!
I felt the same way. “Just shower” GIRL I do and I stink on day one what do you mean 😂
I love that.... “Job description: Smell people’s junk and tell us how long this deodorant lasts” LOL
This is an actual job too lol
How much is Lume paying you?

I've tried Lume and found it really helpful personally for pit BO so I was surprised she came out so hard against it immediately.
