Each generation 75% of women DO need to breed to keep a viable population. But that leaves 25% who are free to do as they please.
Still I was like you two myself when I wS younger so the desire to have kids fan change. My guy and I are trying... I think at some point in your life you can just switch sides. Particularly my mother says middle age women are most prone to it as something clicks in your mud 30s to say 'times running out'. In addition sine women don't want to be alone in old age.
I honestly don't know why I switched, but the thing is tge women who do breed do push for a sex driven future with wome who are more likely to have kids. Evolution is guided by who bred last generation.
Still, yeah, its okay not to have kids. Thatd what the orgznd gor its why we get harmonic looking a for sex in the first place but... you cannot force people to have kids they don't want.
It gives the wrong impression too to girls snd puts them in a bad place, like you must have one. It can lead to have s lid at the wrong point in life.

I legitimately never had a "fishy" smell until I caved to curiosity and tried Vagisil's soap for the first time. I have a very sensitive nose, so when I first noticed the scent of tuna, I was very concerned. It didn't take long to put two and two together, though, and I tossed the soap in the garbage where it belonged, swapping back to just water for down below. I had to see a doc, but eventually the smell was taken care of when my PH balance normalized.
Conclusion? Vagisil's products are crap, their marketing has always been predatory, and their management members need a solid boot to the head.

Whats even better is that mouthwash totally started as a marketing ploy. Or rather 'halitosis' did. No one wanted to use 'mouthwash' - it solved a problem people already felt was solved by toothpaste, namely, bad breath. So mouthwash companies made up a scary, medical sounding term (halitosis) so they could say "our mouthwash _cures halitosis_ " instead of the weaker "it makes your breath smell nice". Same thing here. Make up an issue 'period itch' or 'period funk' and then claim your product 'fixes' that issue.

This is exactly what happened to me. In high school most of my friends were guys. One day someone had a car freshener and my boyfriend, with no ill intention stated that it “smelled like a heavenly vagina.” They then proceeded to discuss how this pungent, floral air freshener smelled like a vagina sent from the gods. This is when I became acutely aware that my nether regions did not smell like a bed of roses. Thinking that there was something wrong with me, I went out and purchased a “feminine deodorizing spray” the brand I am unsure of. Shortly thereafter I was in the family planning clinic in excruciating pain. I ended up with a nasty yeast infection AND bacterial vaginosis. It was one of the worst things I’ve experienced with that area of my body and I wish that someone would have told me that my vagina is supposed to smell like a vagina and not a perfume kiosk at the mall.

It's definitely is! It's not strange at all that the pads smells sometimes, it's old blood collected into materials that isn't very good at keeping it smelling well (more just trying to neutralize the smell that comes from it). Plus it doesn't breathe, it closes in the air, not very good for the smell.
I only use pads because it's the most comfortable thing for me, but it's good to know this.

Some leaking can happen especially while you're getting used to a cup / trying out sizes or sometimes at night, so especially for the first few months I'd recommend additionally wearing period undies (like Thinx or Ooia panties) that will cover any mishaps. I often had concerns about the smell that I emitted on my period when I was a teenager. I didn't have anyone tell me what was going on. Someone just shoved some pads at me and told me to go figure it out. What I realized later and my friends and I realized is that 1) we weren't changing our pads enough and the dried blood was emitting an odor. 2) We were constantly told that the vagina is a self cleaning organ so you don't have to clean it but no one told us their was a difference between your vagina and you vulva so we thought you shouldn't touch any part of my privates to clean. These things can't be fixed with a Vagisil wipe, we just need better education.

    • @coyotesmt
      @coyotesmt 3 года назад +105

I was thinking about the smell of the blood as well, but Vagisil didn't mention this at all. How can we educate teens when we aren't saying the real words? You're so right, though. If your period blood is smelly, then change your tampon or pad. If you have dried blood all over your vulva, then wipe it with a water wipe or some toilet paper with a little water on it. Shower daily. We take for granted plain water sometimes. "period funk" does not describe what's really going on! Like you mentioned, if blood on your pad for 6 hours is causing a smell, change it. If it's more of a "fishy" odor, then you could have bacterial vaginosis. You'll need to see your provider for that.

Usually I experienced that all the other female classmates were rather supportive and giving someone who just forgot to bring enough hygiene products a pad or a tampon to help out would not cause any shaming let alone bullying.

They could have created a line with super cute and fun teen-friendly packaging that contained UNSCENTED, safe-to-use products (like water wipes, very gentle soap, etc...) and done a full campaign on how your periods and vulvas are totally normal, that all girls should be confident just as they are, etc... Same in high school (which is even worse because by that point EVERYONE should know that people with uteruses need period products). Now as an adult I'll just walk out of a room with a pad fully visible and in my hands and go to the bathroom. Why? Because it's not shameful to experience a normal bodily functions. I have believe that odor and itching in young girls is because they are not changing their pads or tampons often enough. It's a matter of simply educating them on proper care. My mom did a really good job of explaining things to me. I am so grateful for that. Reading some of these comments, I see that not everyone had the same kind of support. I also think that shame is a huge component with this topic and experience. My goal at least in my home is to get rid of shame and let my daughter know that she lives in a safe space, nothing is wrong with her and that there are MANY women out there who go through the same thing.

I would advise, don't use the phrase "the things they go through." It has a negative connotation. Like women suffer through things. A period isn't something women "go through," it's just something our body does with no negative connotation at all. If you tell your daughter, "I'm sorry for what you're going through," or, "I understand what you're going through," you're going to make her think she's somehow different and by definition less than you and your sons who "don't have to go through" that.
Instead, think of it this way. "This is something my wife and daughter's bodies do. This other thing is something my and my sons bodies do." Teach your kids that way. Don't tell them girls have to "go through" periods.

It also made me feel disgusting at a time that I already felt disgusting that I didn’t smell like a cherry sundae and my bleeding didn’t just disappear with a regular tampon and panty liner. I’ve come to resent these kind of campaigns as an adult because it reminds me how bad I felt about my body and how truly uneducated I was about reproductive health. As a 14 year old myself, I feel disgusted that they could do this to us. We are so impressionable as teens and we find this new land of vaginas, periods and other topics quite scary. To say the least, having a brand like this; that is targeting at teens and impressionable girls with no outside knowledge on the topic is horrible! We don't know that fragrances are bad, or the anatomy of our own bodies well enough to understand that these products are bad for us and cause the most irritation to our bodies. This gives girls the impression that is there is a "funk" around that area, it's normal and you should just cover it up with some fragrance!

I wouldn't call it misogynistic. It's marketing. Vagisil is trying to spin the criticism of its product and its targeting of a vulnerable population to appear as only uneducated noise, not a valid concern. Like other health and beauty companies, Vagisil (the company) relies on its audience to think that Vagisil (the product line) is a medical product, like over-the-counter medication, such as aspirin or decongestant.

I agree that the word “chatter” has a misogynistic tone in this instance. Women are the targeted consumers and are thus the ones who would be doing the “chattering.” But women don’t just “chatter” or make frivolous conversation when we have legitimate concerns. We have discussions and intelligent debates. Boo Vagisil for downplaying the level of concern women have about their products while simultaneously trying to get women to open their wallets.

The natural sloughing off of a woman’s uterine lining is a “dirty” thing?!? It really frustrates me that so many things in our society already unfairly shame women...like a woman who is very sexually active is a bad thing, but if I slept around twice as much, it’s no big deal. We need to do better as human beings and stop shaming each other. It’s already traumatic enough of an experience, don’t make girls feel bad about this natural occurrence.
PS - One last thing I feel like I just need to say, and people can hate me for it, but it’s just my own personal opinion. I don’t think that females should have to buy their monthly products...period. It’s a part of our species existence, and just because females were burdened with having monthly visits by the red queen for FOUR decades...shouldn’t mean that, on top of that, they also have to buy those products themselves.

That really needs to be approved by our Supreme Court so that a petulant child who gets into our Oval Office can’t just change it...thank goodness for Biden, but No.45** never should’ve been able to just decree “no trans in the military”...I would’ve loved to see him say that to Logan Ireland’s face!
I like to think that the Ls and the Bs also think like us ‘cause I think our community tends to be more empathetic towards others...I know that’s not always the case, especially my fellow Gs, but I like to think it is. Hehe. Just because I’ve never had to use those products, doesn’t mean I can’t understand. 😁
Anyway, I hope u and ur Ohana are staying safe and healthy during this pandemic. Much love and aloha from Honolulu! 😁🤙🏽❤️🌈☀️ (just symbols of Hawai’i)

Scotland just passed a law that makes pads/ tampons free for all. Should be this way everywhere. Also there is a lot of ways here in the USA we can support legislation to make period products more
Accessible. For example you can’t use snap in some areas for period products . She should do a video on this .npr had a really Interesting interview on this . It’s called period equity see

Thanks for the critique on people who "can't bring life into the world." I am often made to feel like a freak of nature or a sub-human because of infertility. It's bad enough I have a medical condition through no fault of my own but let's guilt, disregard, and disgrace me for it, people can be so insensitive. Glad to hear a Doctor reinforce my feelings finally!

As someone growing up in a very rural area and only having had a bathroom installed inside our apartment when I was already age 7 (the building had a separate washhouse in the yard with a boiler that needed to be heated by firing up wood logs) and basically growing up seeing everyone in the family just using a bowl of warm water and washcloths to do their daily hygiene, I'm still a bit weirded out by the american obsession with taking daily showers. You can stay clean and not smelling like a pig, even without having a bathroom in your own house - even though that seems like a totally outlandish notion nowadays

I know I'm a year late... but I'm a very self-conscious tween (12) and I haven't yet started my period. I think they are absolutely amazing and SO COOL to talk about and discuss (one of my two dream jobs is to be an OBGYN)!! I've talked to my friend about the plan that I have when I get my period. Pads for a year and then a period cup if I'm comfortable with it because it's reusable. She's really shy about talking about her period, not comfortable with it, and I've told her that it's completely normal and that she doesn't have to say anything about it if that's what she wants.
    These campaigns are something else...
Also this is my edit: THANK YOU for just saying, "People with a period," instead of, "Women with periods." It's amazing and makes people who question themselves or identify as something else when they have a period feel so much more accepted.
    Much love and stay safe
