    There is a reason why she got herself the 11th AA place in the Olympics, getting the 4th place among the 6 American girls (Simone, Suni, Jade, Myk, Grace, Jordan). However, this would not be happening in 2022-2024 quad because now vaults are scored much less than in the previous quad and floor routines are butchered even more with artistic deductions which can reach even up to a -1.500.

    I think she was exciting to watch, was very determined and earned her spot in 2021. No one can take that away from her but having the eye of a tiger backfired her, once again. Mykayla had very nice tricks and a quality of chunkyness because of her lack of flexibility. She had form issues all around and basically relied on her technique, her muscle mass and power. Unfortunately, I always felt she was the type of gymnast who felt like she deserved better results because she worked hard, performed well and wanted success too badly. However, her gymnastics were not that good as your analysis shows. Yes, she became better to the extent she could, got a lot of fans (myself included) because of her grit, longevity and spontaniety. But in the end though, there is a cost everyone must pay while feeling entitled, speak so freely and not in a positive way.

      Very insightful and thanks for the message. Yes, when someone is the eye of the ticker, the challenge does seem to be they think they should place higher than the quality of their gymnastics. I think that can be frustrating for those perspectives but I also think it helps them compete well. The opposite would be to feel they dont deserve to be at the top and that does not seem to serve a person very well hahaha. Her determination helped her and as you said, she can never have that sport, or those Olympic experiences taken away. Thanks again and my best.

      I agree… I wonder why it took so long for her coaches to correct those major issues? I almost feel like they were just happy she could do the tricks, but had terrible form. That is why she never scored well internationally. I believe they were right to put her as an alternate all those years. Also, THANK GOD for safe sport! Lol

      The massive vlog content she regularly releases is incredibly redundant, focuses on HER, not the sport, and is ignorant, racist, and self-serving.
      Nothing to admire here. Just a vault she pulled off as an alternate 4 yrs ago after a more skilled athlete pulled out.
      The hatred and vitriol she’s been spewing since then damaged her, her kid, her ‘career’ (not sure what career skills she might possess or develop - this isn’t a woman who values education nor the expertise of others) and the sport.
      Long past time she found a purpose in her life. Gymnastics isn’t it.

    While this young woman has/ had athletic skills I will never have, and was probably abused as a child/ adolescent during her gymnastics career, she is now an ADULT. I’m done listening to her hurtful, hateful messages.
    For **yrs** she has released racist, misogynistic, entitled vlogs comparing her one event in the Tokyo vault (an opportunity she got ONLY because a better athlete faltered) to any/everything and stating she was better, she woulda/ coulda/ shoulda succeeded ….. essentially saying she’d be the current GOAT if she’d spent 5 minutes trying.
    Uhhh, no.
    She didn’t. Her “work ethic” didn’t include work. See her US and NCAA records to demonstrate her personal ‘work ethic.’
    Okay, freedom of speech. She’s entitled to her opinion. But being an adult, and trying to cash in on one’s Olympic past w/o even the decency to acknowledge she was an alternate, not a team member, let alone the accomplishments and struggles (anyone ever heard of Nasser?) of her peers, suggests she’s battling bigger demons than an Olympic team she never made until a better athlete had a single misstep.
    Ms Skinner Harmer is hurting herself (tho I doubt she realizes it) on multiple levels w/ her social media presence. She’s also hurting her family, her future career (should she choose or need to have one), her religious beliefs, USA gymnastics …..
    I hope someone who knows this mom can reach her, and help her find the support and services she needs. If, for no one else, than her child.

      @OLYMPIANTEACHES-bh6gp  Месяц назад +5

      Ha ha, thanks. Gymnastics was a bit different in my generation. I have had the twisties and I have had a few friends that I’ve had the twisties. It really is a physical thing you can’t do anything about and it usually runs its course in a couple of weeks. It’s like this- if somebody close to you, jumps at you very fast, you instinctively jump back. The same response happens in the middle of skills. Normally the skill is so part of your body. You feel every part and every moment of the skill. With the twisties it’s like you’ve never done the skill before and you feel lost. That moment of feeling lost creates that instinctive turn away like when someone jumps at you. The biggest problem is the more you think about it the worst it gets. I had a friend that it got so bad he would twist in a front handspring. I wish they would study this more. It is based around a fear response and the moment of not feeling familiar with the skill. Rock on and my best

      @@UsernameStarfish good insight. That is my thought as well. To plant and push with that other arm would interrupt her flip rotation speed, and that would interrupt her twisting mechanics so my opinion is, it would almost be like doing a different skill if she tried to block equally and longer with both arms.she did get better at that vault in time, but I never saw her fully connect with a deep block pushing off the horse. I thought the same. I wonder if in real time she didn't appear as flexible because she wasn't getting oversplits. Of course, I had not seen every performance of hers either. I heard her describe during her comeback how difficult it was to make her legs look straight and I think that affects the appearance of flexibility in leaps. As much as I am a stickler for straight legs, I could understand where she was coming from. I grew up in dance but it takes a LOT of work to completely straighten my legs in leaps. There was more clean form in this video than I remembered.
