Shiny Locking has to be one of the WORST things Game Freak added to the series. What started all the way back in Pokemon Black and White with only 3 shiny locks, it has become more and more excessive as the series has gone on.
But today, I am shiny hunting these 3 Pokemon that it seems Game Freak FORGOT TO SHINY LOCK!

Shiny locking is by far my least favorite design choice in all of gaming.
Like we literally PAID for your game why do you have to control exactly how we enjoy it? Especially because shiny hunting doesn’t even require cheating! It’s a game mechanic they put in! I could rant about it all day lol

As a person who spends almost 100 percent of my free time shiny hunting, I hate shiny locks. Let me reset for shinies dammit.
If we want to spend hundreds of hours going for different colored digital creatures WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO!

besides Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza and all XY available mons, there's still quite a ton of mons to go for with plenty of methods to choose from! ^^

Hate shiny locked. Imagine if someone just wanted a shiny only to find out after 20,000+ encounters that it's impossible, it's a time sink you'll never get back.
Yeah honestly. I usually do some research before I start a shiny hunt just in case but I’ve had so many people tell me they were resetting for a shiny that was locked
A cool way to commemorate this challenge through nicknames could be to name them after fire-type gym leaders: Blaine, Flannery, Chili, Kabu.

in my opinion, the only good "shiny lock" is in the wild area which prevents you from finding an uncatchable shiny since you can't catch mons of certain levels. but overall it sucks lol. but this hunt is awesome!
Yeah I’d be fine if they locked uncatchable shinies but at the same time, for those who find the uncatchable shinies, it’s something they will for sure never forget! 😂
The uncatchable Poochyena is apparently shinylocked in ORAS
I failed a shiny in Omega Ruby because i didn’t have pokeballs so I couldn’t catch it 😭

The reason why I believe TPC is shiny locking the legendary Pokémon in MSG is bc they want players to pay to raid them or do exclusive quests for them in Pokemon Go. Outside of Japan, shiny Mew and Genesect are Go exclusive and Melton and Melmetal are also Go exclusive. Victini will probably be released at the in person event in Go next February.

Fun fact, shiny locking was actually introduced in gen 3 on the GameCube title Pokemon Colosseum. What’s more, all the pokemon in the game were supposed to be locked, but due to a bug the shadow Pokemon can be caught as shiny. Funny enough this situation was reversed in the game’s sequel XD Gale of Darkness.
I feel like that’s more of an instance of a regular trainer battle which shouldn’t be able to have shinies, simply being programmed incorrectly because of the fact that you can catch their Pokémon as opposed to an actual shiny lock.
It would be kinda like saying shiny locks have been a thing since the beginning as all trainers Pokémon are shiny locked
I’m currently shiny hunting the latios that you get during the story of oras (not the eon ticket). I’m genuinely surprised it isn’t shiny locked and another instance that they probably forgot to shiny lock it (Yes double checked it’s not locked, even saw videos of people get it) but hey I will take it. Wish me luck have to suffer through three minutes of cutscenes and a battle to even check it’s shiny 🗿

The morgrem that jumps from the ledge in the Glimwood Tangle was shiny for me. I was spooked two times over and it was amazing. I’m so glad it’s not shiny locked because that is such a fun memory!

I did the shiny gift Pokémon in Crystal. Kenya the Spearow and Shuckie the Shucke. To be honest, out of the 10 years I've spent shiny hunting, I've never counted encounters, lol

my brother found a full odds shiny litwick on his copy of shield at the same time i was hunting it and he let the other trainer kill it :((

I’ve never seen this posted anywhere before, but you mentioned using casual controls and that reminded me of this great tip. While using the bike with casual controls, you travel slightly faster when using the right joystick to move, it is a very small difference but if you are egg hatching I’m sure that it’s a small time save over thousands of eggs. Seriously go try it out!

I'm so glad people are aware of this gym not being shiny locked. I remember during my first ever shield nuzlock I found a Shiny Litwick i called "Zuko" ( caught in a great ball because I didn't know shiny chandelure colours woops )who ended up carrying the run.
Barely anyone believes me but thankfully I did have evidence through.
Hope it wasn't too painful to find all of these guys

There’s tons of theories and potential reasons as to why they shiny lock stuff. That reason you gave is the main theory for why they shiny lock starters now actually. But imo there’s never gonna be an actual valid reason to shiny lock stuff. The games would just be better if nothing was locked
they should have like, a NG+ option where your boxed pokemon are locked until you beat the game again, but since you already beat the game you can shiny hunt starters...or something. Idk, just let us hunt shinies@@ThedomiNATION

Yeah it’s tough to do multiple reset hunts in a row especially when you go over odds!
i found a shiny vulpix in the motostoke gym while doing a pincurchin-only run of sword, and i really debated whether or not to abandon the run and use it alongside my pinny boi. needless to say, i was very surprised.
This Eldegoss was my first shiny in sword and shield. Run into it in my playthrough and was like "wait. Isn't it green? OMG SPARKLES ITS SHINY" 😂

@@ThedomiNATION My first shiny in Pokemon Sword and Shield was a shiny Rookidee and found it at 109 encounters using the brilliant method(becuase it's the best method without the shiny charm for me lol). It is now a Corvinight that is able to Gigantamax! So I suggest you to find Shiny Rookidee using that method instead of that Corvisquire that is for some reason shiny locked... 😄
just realized this gym challenge was to teach players how to target opponents and allies in double battles… with the prominent double battle gym is Raihan’s which is also in Motostoke gym

I tried SOS hunting for a female shiny Saladit. It took several days but when running around to find the first one to chain, full odds shiny Fletchling, go figure. I did eventually get it, after passing over a shiny male.
Congrats for the trio, especially Litwick! As for Vulpix's nickname, I suggest Foxfire. It has a double meaning, as for English speakers it apparently means the bioluminescent glow that some fungi produce. In Finnish aurora borealis is called revontulet, which means literally fox's fire.
Foxfire makes sense for it as a kitsune themed pokemon as well, with foxfire being a small fireball a kitsune could create, also known as kitsunebi
This reminds me of my hunt of Finneon in Canalave (because I like that Home tracks where you caught them) but gave up because it was full odds and went on for too long. This is a cool hunt, congrats!

You should name the sizzlepeed trigon. There's a kind of blue centipede that has a scientific name of Ethmostigmus trigonopodus and i think its just a cool name! Love the vids!

You should name the Vulipx Asteria cause its based on a kitusune and I think asteria is the name of a mythical fox (Congrats on the shines!)
Here's a nickname suggestion you've probably never gotten: name the vulpix/ninetails "Api Biru". It's a name for blue lava. The blue color is caused by sulfur mixing with the lava. It's from a volcano in Indonesia.
This video was awesome and as a shiny hunter myself I just recently finished getting all of gen 1 minus the birds mewtwo and mew shiny and gen 2 minus Lugia these hunts are awesome to do I also own over 500 unique shinys and close to 1000 with duplicates

The mic does sound a lot better in the sizzlipede clip. With how much the audio changes when you move, to get the ideal sound it might be useful to try moving it around rather than playing with more filters. Either way, great videos and enjoying the improved quality all around
Yep! I have pretty much the settings I want now that I used in the litwick clip! I just need to remember to have my mic farther away from my mouth because before I had to be really close so it’s a lot to get used to! (I also have to figure out how I can have my elgato displayed twice for the dual hunt while only having audio for one of them as I didn’t realize there was loud game audio for the dual layout until I started editing)
My longest hunt was with Yveltal in Pokémon Ultra Moon with over 4200 SRs but I also got it. Then after that I had hunted Kyogre and got it after 10 SRs and then I did Mewtwo and got it after 10 minutes after Kyogre and all in Ultra Moon. So that means 3 shiny Pokémon in one day. But I sat with Yveltal for over a week.
And what was also crazy was a random shiny joltik in the sword and shield. I hadn't seen the little joltik in the grass and I accidentally walked in and it was the first joltik and it was Shiny. I just said when I saw it, "Wait, the eyes look strange...Is it shiny?" and exactly at that moment the shiny animation showed and I half freaked out because I had already gotten a shiny rook idea at the very beginning of the game after 162 SRs.

Fun fact the squawkabilly's on top of the main house in SV aren't shiny locked
They are only huntable in version 1.0.0. These are one of the few shinies that they actually shiny locked in an update. So most versions they’re actually shiny locked

if you are planing to evolve it, name it willow, it sounds like will-O-wisp and willow trees are a somewhat similar color to shiny ninetales, also if you burn wood it becomes charcoal and it fits for a shiny ninetales a ton

if you end up turning the vulpix into a ninetails, Shinetails is a funny name, if not, then Spiltendz is also an idea which works for either.
First off, great finds you got in the gym. And second, I agree, the Shiny Lock sucks. Scarlet and Violet locking all the Bosses, Gimmighoul, and Gift Pokemon is bad enough. But locking all the past legendaries in the DLC is Xrta Bad. Also just like the games, they're bugged and don't have the 3 random 31 IVs they usually get. If it weren't for the Story, Boss Battles, and Shiny Mark hunting the Starters and Alola Forms, Sword and Shield's DLC would be (and even then maybe is) a better value. Not to mention being 5 dollars cheaper and way less buggy.
I’ve gotten way more use out of sword and shields dlc so I would say it was way better value. To this day people are still hunting for the legendaries in dynamax adventures!
Scarlet and violet was just spend a few hours on the story and that’s it…

My shiny ninetails is called Tamamo like tamamo no mae the ninetail fox sealed away until 2022

I did a swsh nuzlocke at one point (maybe december 2020?) and just randomly got a shiny Sizzlipede just doing that challenge normally LOL. I was so shocked!!! I didn’t even know they could be shiny!

That's why I hate shiny lock. I'm currently shiny hunting every legendary / mythical pokemons available up to Ultra Sun/Ultra moon and a lot of them are not available outside events (or not at all like keldeo)

Hey we just prefer to hunt for full odds shinies is all! No need to pity us! I’ve played a ton of scarlet and violet and to me, the shinies just seem too easy to the point where it isn’t really exciting for me to find them in that game!
I started a second play through of Sword recently and heard this was possible so thought I might do the hunt myself, but as I was going through my first attempt I really questioned if I had the motivation for the long haul of checks without the charm, but as luck would have it on only my third shiny check I got the Sizzli, which is now one of the favourite shint Pokemon I own!
See full odds isn’t that scary! (Just pay no attention to the litwick I got that was an outlier)

i managed to save a clip of me finding a full odds shiny morgem in the area leading to the fairy gym!! it was so surreal and i still have it to this day!
i kept editing this cause i forgot exactly where lol! it was the morgem static encounter where it is just chilling on some rocks

Closest I’ve had to a unique shiny hunt was when I hunted Hisuian basculin. Those things run away so fast…
I’ve never successfully done a soft reset hunt. If I do, I’m thinking I’ll do it for an ultra beast like Buzzwole.
I’m worried if I ever hunt the basculin as I can never even catch the regular ones 😭

I remember when i learned about this and got so angry. I assumed the gym Pokemon where shiny locked. And no wonder i never saw that eldegloss again but how is that not shiny locked?

Technically, Gale Of Darkness started the Shiny Lock trend with only 17 Pokémon not being Shiny locked, those being:

My list excludes Battle CDs because you cannot trade those Pokémon from Gale Of Darkness to RSE/FRLG. Apparently they *can* be Shiny, but, you don't get to *keep* them, so they may as well be considered *Locked Shinies.* They can only be used in Battle CD scenarios and locked *to* Battle CDs.
However, Yes, Black & White Shiny locked Story Specific Pokémon making them the first *Core* games to feature a Shiny Lock.
Technically speaking shiny locking didn’t start in XD. In colosseum, there was an oversight on how the shadow Pokémon from the trainers were rolled so when you caught them, they mistakenly had a chance to become shiny. This was simply fixed in XD.
It would be like saying shiny locking started in gen 2 technically when shinies became a thing Becuase they “shiny locked” all the trainers Pokémon.
@@ThedomiNATION Fair point, but, I guess you could say "Successful" Shiny Lock for XD. Although, I believe it *is* possible for trainers to have Shinies I know Trainers like Silver, Barry & Wally have extremely low odds to have a Shiny once that never shows up again. Like I said extremely low odds, meaning they may *never* have Shinies ever. I don't know if someone like Eusine, Whitney or Youngster Joey can potentially have a Shiny, but, I have heard that Trainers can have them. Excluding Trainer Hill in Emerald or Battle Facilities.

Name her Kurama after both human Kurama and Yoko Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. Since shiny Ninetales has his same colors in his fox form.
Maybe it’s just me, but I would recommend going back to older generations that need Pokemon bank to transfer, and catch all the Pokemon again, since Legends ZA and further generations with probably have regional forms and evolutions.
That sounds complete unreasonable and ridiculous lol. I’m not gonna catch every single Pokémon multiple times just in case they might get something new in the future. I’ll only go back and catch older Pokémon if they are confirmed to get something new in the future
Yo! You’re tier list of how hard it is to hunt shiny pokemon just came up on my feed! Loved it but I had a question maybe you can help me answer! I’m currently at 12.5k resets on Unown ! & ? In BDSP and I heard you mention that those two were harder than others because of number values and stuff. Do you have any idea if that applies to BDSP? And was wondering if you could help me understand what you meant a little more
It does not apply to BDSP. I said they were harder because there’s usually something that needs to be done in order to even find unown ! And ? And usually they are just more rare forms than the rest. The only games that shiny odds vary between unown forms is fire red and leaf green. Along with the gen 2 games only having shiny unown I and V be possible. Every other game the unown shiny rates are all the same across each other.
BDSP is one of the games where they aren’t too hard to get because you get the specific room that only has them! You just need to catch all the other letters beforehand to unlock that room!

I hate Game Freak for basically being OBSESSED- wait no, not OBSESSED... HYPER OBSESSED with Shiny locking pretty much everything they can without shiny locking the main game Pokemon (Excluding Legendaries and Mythicals). It's like they WANNA see us suffer with their shiny locks. Like, let us waste our time how we want to! Don't go Shiny locking Legendaries since they're always gonna be available in their respective games until they come to the newest games via DLC (for Mythicals, I honestly get why they shiny lock them... sorta). I NEVER bothered with getting the returning Legendaries in Scarlet/Violet Indigo Disk DLC since they were shiny locked. Since they were shiny locked, I just saw absolutely ZERO point in getting them
shinylocking the legendaries in the 2nd SV DLC should fall under false advertisement

It’s so weird too because I’m Scarlet and Violet, shinies are WAY to easy to find, making it not even fun to shiny hunt for me anymore. But then they go and lock like half of the Pokémon as well, so it’s like make up your mind! Do you or do you not want us to have shinies?

A good name for Vulpix would be Volpina it’s a mix of vixen and small fox in Italian. Or Kitsune it’s the trickster fox yokai spirit
The sizzlipede wasn't 1366 tho? You were hunting it concurrently with the vulpix. You reset the counter, but you still did all those encounters on the same spawn. The real total for it was 4400; slightly over odds.
When you shiny hunt, you typically go off of how long a phase is. It would be pretty inaccurate to include the vulpix encounters with Sizzlipede because the phase for vulpix took 3034 encounters. 3034 rolls for a shiny to appear. After getting a shiny we don’t include those encounters for the next phase, we reset. So phase 2 took which yielded a shiny Sizzlipede took 1366 encounters. Imagine trying to figure out how many of encounters of each specific Pokémon you’re doing when you’re shiny hunting on a route that has like 6+ different species lol
@ThedomiNATION Oh wait, I just noticed you were upping the counter on both sides simultaneously. Because of the way the layout was set up I thought you were tracking encounters for each species independently; I didn't pay attention to the fact that you increased it by two both on the vulpix encounters and on the sizzlipede ones.
I guess I can see why it'd be easier to count that way. Still, if you were alternating the two the entire time, it's a lot easier to count that than it would be for random encounters on a route. I think it would still be fair to count each species' encounters on their own, if you wanted to do it that way.
Knowing that, I was wrong; you were definitely under odds on the sizzlipede. Halving both counters, it'd be more like 2150 encounters of that species specifically during the overall hunt. Nice ^^
