I love being a doula and the fact that we’re there pretty much from start to finish of the labor process. It’s so special watching a woman become a mom, even if it’s not her first time😌! Thank you for sharing Sarah❤️!
We have a whole article centered around the Evidence on Doulas that Sarah talks about
So funny I just asked my doctor about having a doula today! I was a doula for 2 women before giving birth and it was magical!
My hands were also their favorite part. I’m a Reiki Master and Shamanic healer and I truly believe in the power of the female spirit in the birthing experience.
I hope my insurance can help me have one with my second baby bc my partner is way too anxious about helping me the wrong way and it’s just not the same. I don’t have female family support at all for this baby so I hope it’s possible
My birth went sideways, just minutes after my son was born my husband followed him for more medical attention, nurses got called to another emergency and if I hadn’t had my doula I would have been left alone wondering what was happening with my son. Having someone there to tell me “yeah you’re right that was scary, I was scared too.” was priceless when I was stunned and confused.
You are Amazing 😊I know exactly how you feel
I am 100% would not have had the amazing birth I had if I didn’t hire a doula! She knew what positions I should do, was so encouraging, helped the room maintain my birth preferences and got me to the water birth I desired. having a doula there allowed for my husband to fully have his attention on me and we were able to bond so strongly through the labor and delivery process. If you’re pregnant- please hire a doula! It’s worth every penny I promise!
When I went unmedicated with my last birth I was almost totally unsupported. My partner was there but he stayed far away from me and didn’t talk to me before or after the birth really. No encouragement. He ended up saying it was traumatic for him and blaming it being on his first child. I still feel sad when I think about it cause it was a very stressful birth for me where I ended up having her standing up on accident. I was proud of myself but no one else seemed to be.
Aww momma! So sorry to hear that was your experience 💔. I can totally relate to feeling unsupported during birth. But just know that you are a ROCKSTAR and you did an amazing thing not many women can do. I’m proud of you💜💜💜!
@@ShadesofSage and now I’m crying 😭 thank u for ur kind words
@@tayshaboone4093 You’re very welcome 🙏🏿❤️!
I’m proud of you! It takes a STRONG woman to go through what you did, even without the support you deserved ❤️
You’re badass. If I was your doula, I would have helped you understand that, and honored your strength and power. Unfortunately society has these men terrified of the divine female energy. They have never learned how to handle it let alone witness it in its glory and honor it.
Do you have any resources/classes on becoming a doula?
When I had my last baby, the nurses stayed in my room with me almost the whole time due to covid protocols. They were wonderful and supportive, but I felt like I had to be a little performative and I was never able to fully trust my body and get into my zone. My labor had stalled at about 6.5cm, but as soon a they left for lunch, I immediately went into transition. It almost seemed like having other people there was counterproductive for me.
Privacy is important, even when other people may be in the room. A good doula knows how to balance that.
I want to be a doula, do you have any recommendations for companies/programs to get certified through?
Can I have a vaginal delivery in a second pregnancy if I had a bad vaginal tear previously?
Absolutely. A doula can help you decrease the chances of tearing as well.
You got people out here looking for free doulas hahahahah. I had a couple people call to inquire about services and mentioned YOU and this video, where you said that some are FREE and had to come find this video. All good info, but no mention about free doulas being for people who are low income and actually in need of this, as opposed to someone who has the means to pay. It is frustrating, as someone who feeds their family doing this work, puts their heart and soul into this, and has people asking for me to work for free doing something so time/energy consuming and labor intensive. Would you come do a couple 12-hour shifts on L&D for free? On call? Risk being called in during your child’s first soccer game, prom or birthday party? Probably not.... even though your work is important, right? Free doulas are usually ones that don’t have much/any experience and are giving services for free because they have trouble acquiring clients who are willing to pay for a doula that has not attended more than 1 or 2 births, right out of training.... or make space to do pro bono work a few times a year because everyone else paid them a living wage for their services.
