I have this! It’s super important to know that it DOESN’T have to be itchy hands and feet. The itching can be anywhere on your body, or everywhere. The main thing to look out for is itching without a rash that doesn’t seem to improve at all with lotions. Also some people only get very mild itching, and that doesn’t correlate at all to the bile acid levels. You can also have symptoms months before testing positive.
I was dx with ICP at 20weeks with my 2020 pregnancy! I was induced at 36weeks and thankfully she was healthy. Your information is accurate! Great video.
Thanks for bringing awareness! Doctors can be dismissive about to it so it’s a big one to educate pregnant moms about! I’ve had two Itchy babies and will probably be getting a third ICP diagnoses in several weeks.
THANK YOU for this video! I had Cholestasis of pregnancy with my second and I was miserable!!! This was a very helpful informative video. I’m now pregnant with my 3rd and I’m dreading having it again 😫
Not to like miss the point of the video, but I really love this outfit! Especially the little pop of green in your necklace (which brings out your eyes), it's just super pretty and flattering all around
I had colestasis for all my of my pregnancies. I itched everywhere! My first Dr told me it was in my head and I was crazy and it would go away after delivery and she and her staff all laughed at me!! When I got pregnant with my son my levels started climbing in the first trimester. I was miserable for a long time. I had a Dr. who knew what to test for so I had liver function tests done every week it climbed very fast and he was in contact with another Dr. in Washington who he confirmed with. I just couldn't be pregnant anymore with 7 weeks to go. So he sent me to have a amnio done but when he got my blood work back that afternoon he said I couldn't wait for those test results to come back and induced me that day. What a whirlwind!! I was outside a lot so I had plenty of sunlight as I worked on a farm. My sister also had this with all of her kids and she also was outside a lot because she is a Ag teacher and her class was usually outside. Horrible horrible thing to have!!
I'm having my 2nd baby & now 35 weeks. Was just tested for this but was told I may need to redo the tests because at my last ultrasound they saw gallstones, thanks to the pregnancy as well, & it might even caused my levels to be elevated. So we'll see, rather nervous, but praying for the best for us 🤞🙏💆🏽♀️ Also when I read up on this, I was so annoyed because my mom didn't have it & neither did I with my first child, but there are in fact so many other reasons why I'm going through it. The itching is really, really annoying though, honestly
Thank you for this video! I was showing signs of this around 10-11 weeks and my midwife held off testing till 20weeks because it’s rare to start itching in the first trimester…sure enough my numbers were over 100 and I was put on meds which definitely helped. I’m currently 26weeks and they plan on inducing me at 37weeks as long as the medication continues to work.
Mine started early as well with my last pregnancy. I mentioned it to my doctor at my first appointment with my current pregnancy and she doesn’t want to test until I start showing symptoms of it 😖
I’m 10w2d and mines started exactly at 10w. I have an appointment next Tuesday I’ll def mention my 1 itchy hand. Thanks for your story I pray for a safe and healthy delivery for you and your baby
Sarah, what happens if you feel the severe itching for one day, it tapers down over days and doesn’t bother you anymore, and you’re 38 weeks? This is my exact situation. I brought it up to my doctor and they ran tests for liver function which came back normal but we are waiting on bile salts results which could take a few more days. They sent me home from labor and delivery after good fetal monitoring and those other labs coming back “stellar” (their exact words). I’m worried and not. They gave me the option to induce but then told me they felt comfortable sending me home. Induction is scheduled at 39 weeks, but if I have ANY itching at all, is it more dangerous being later in the pregnancy (38 weeks, as I am) than the earlier (second and earlier third trimester, as you had mentioned)? Should I take it more seriously because I’m further along? I did not have this symptom at all until the middle of 37 weeks.
Thanks for another great video! Always appreciate you taking the time to do these little extra clips 🥰 Hoping to make it to your next coffee and questions before this peanut makes its debut ☺️🥰☺️ Flex & Flow for life mamas! 💪 ⏳️🌊💕 Seriously though, is there flex & flow merch?
I just realized I have this and thought this was normal.. I'm 37 weeks and 1/2 been having this extreme painful itching since week 34 I'm so scare its too late for my baby 😢 I will call my doctor tomorrow to get a blood test
I’m so thankful for this because I’ve been having sever itchy hands and feet and I though it’s just because I prolly had fluid in there and they were swollen but this past January I was hospitalized due to non alcoholic fatty liver and I almost needed a biopsy all from Covid so now I’m pregnant I’m 21 weeks today should I be concerned?
I'm very curious about this because even outside of pregnancy I have VERY itchy hands/feet like so much so that sometimes it keeps me up at night. so I worry that in pregnancy i wouldn't "notice" because its already normal for me. I'm thinking maybe they can just straight up test me for it.
I had this with my daughter. Lots of itching around 35 weeks and they prescribed me some medicine that helped. I was induced at 37 weeks. My daughter ended up having a bad UTI at 7 days old - is there anything in the literature about the effects of it on infants? The hospital couldn’t make a connection, but I was wondering if any new research has been done
I had itching on my palms off and on and the backs of my hands are really dry. I was just diagnosed since I read about it and asked my Dr for the rest. Other than that I figured it was just dry skin until I learned about it.
I had this after getting the Dtap vaccine. I had to be hospitalized and I believe my liver got damaged and got this condition days later. I opted out for my other 3 pregnancies and never got it again luckily.
Hi I love your videos. I guess I do have Cholestasis and I do have diagnosed Diabetes week ago. Can you give informations about how to deal with them if you have both of them.
Hey Sarah! Week 30 here and I have some itchiness right over my gallbladder/liver for a while now. But NOT my hands and feet! My doctors did the lab work and numbers came back okay. I don’t know if I should be persistent in asking about cholestatis or not?
Definitely keep a watch. My symptoms started at 27 weeks and they didn't do anything... They weren't terrible so I was like ok it's nothing. Then around 32 weeks it got to the point I couldn't sleep at night cuz I couldn't stop itching! I told them I want my blood drawn this time cuz I wasn't taking no for an answer... Sure enough I had it. They have me meds and induced me at 37 weeks. I'm 28w4d now and I'm itchy off and on... It's not too bad. I had my blood drawn early and they said it's negative but they said it can show up suddenly so just keep an eye... I know if mine gets worse I'll be telling them I need checked again. I won't let anything happen if I can prevent it. I will advocate for me baby. Good luck love
Hi Sarah, I have so many parents worry when there is blood in the urine catheter. I try to reassure them that’s it’s normal and a sure sign of cervical progression but they still seem worrisome about the blood. How do you respond if you have ever gotten that question? And… is it really normal? I tried to do some research on it and never come up with any solutions to the questions. PLEASE HELP!!! Lol. Thanks so much for all you do!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!! 😄😄😄
When i was preggo i knew the itching wasn't normal and it was pregnancy related I googled my symptoms and bamm ran to my ob to check my bile acids they were insanely high I delivered the same day :/
So I had very itchy feet with my second child and my mom thought it was due to very swollen feet. My child was born with Respiratory Distress Syndrome does that have anything to do with this? I am pregnant with my 3rd and have already had 2 NICU babies.
Hi Sarah I have a question about leaving the hospital AMA after birth. Have you had patients do that and if so how does the hospital go about getting the tests for baby done? This will be my 3rd baby and my husband and I don't know if we will have childcare for our entire stay in the hospital. My first 2 pregnancies were low risk(this one as well) and my births had zero complications(and were unmedicated). With this being said, what's the difference between leaving early and a home birth? A home birth isn't an option for me so I'm hoping to get the closest thing by delivering at the hospital and going home at the 2 hour mark. What are your thoughts?
I'm just letting you know because I went through the same thing. As always it depends on your hospital. But my last birth happened at home unintentionally but we went to the hospital afterwards. My insurance decided to only cover me 24 hours because I didn't deliver there. I informed the hospital and also informed them I have other children that needed care. They kept looking for something I was hiding 😒 after the 6 or 7th urine test looking for drugs ( they were all negative) I finally refused to keep giving them samples to help them on their witch hunt. They allowed me to leave after 24 hours but said my baby would have to stay one more night. It killed me. The next day I arrived and they told me that I wouldn't be able to take my baby home for 3 days because they wanted to observe her. SHE WAS PERFECTLY HEALTHY. I was upset because I felt lied to and me getting upset (and hormonal from just having a baby) and they made me have a security detail every time I wanted to visit my baby. I would just do everything you can to be able to not check out AMA because they may cause you some trouble. I sincerely hope not. But this is why I'm going with a midwife at home this time around. I wish you all the best of luck and a much better experience than I had at the hospital.
What if your bile acids went from 11 to 6? With no other symptoms ursodiol is working. Almost 38 weeks in 1 day. Is it fine to decide not to be induced at 39 weeks because levels are lower at the moment? Being induced is pushing her to come before her time in my opinion and it causes all the interventions I do not want. Nsts every week are showing great fetal movement. Shes estimated to be over 7lbs when born. I talked with my ob about this but he says it's my ultimate decision because of my values etc. He talked with the high risk obs at uofm and they still recommend 39 weeks. I'm more inclined to let her come naturally since everything is seemingly fine. I just want her to come when she is ready but at the same time be healthy. Very hard first parent decision. Yikes
Is cholestasis a risk for postpartum hemorrhage? I had a really bad itchy feet during my third trimester and ended up having a postpartum hemorrhage. Just wondering if there’s a connection. My labs were normal so i wasn’t diagnosed with it.
It can be a risk factor. But that’s usually due to lack of vitamin k absorption, which you wouldn’t see unless your bile levels already were pretty high. So it seems unlikely it was related.

Hi
At which week you delivered your baby
I’m waiting my test results right now… educating myself anxiously so I’m prepared.
Me too
I had this over my whole body and I had to deliver early as nothing else was working to relieve the symptoms.
Can you share more around ICP happening in the early 2nd trimester??
I am facing the same problem in early second trimester. Did you have a healthy pregnancy? Please reply

What if you’re planning a vbac and your provider won’t induce… does that mean a c section is my only option?
When i was preggo i knew the itching wasn't normal and it was pregnancy related I googled my symptoms and bamm ran to my ob to check my bile acids they were insanely high I delivered the same day :/
How far along were you?
Do u have any videos talking about a thickening of a uterus? I'm 4 weeks and they mentioned that to me so I thought I'd ask
I had this with my second son along with polyhydromenos or however its spelled and then as the cherry on top high blood pressures it sucked
So I had very itchy feet with my second child and my mom thought it was due to very swollen feet. My child was born with Respiratory Distress Syndrome does that have anything to do with this? I am pregnant with my 3rd and have already had 2 NICU babies.
Yes one of the big risk factors of cholestasis is respiratory distress syndrome!
Can ICP cause gallbladder pain / tenderness?
For some people it does cause pain in the right upper quadrant.

I am having itchy body but I get urticaria /hives kind of rash at place where I itch
Have your doctor evaluate you! They can help figure out what's going on
