      I am all about the Metroid hype. I literally bought my Switch the day after the original Prime 4 announcement in eager anticipation, and was equally disappointed when it was subsequently delayed. Been getting good use out of my Switch with Hyrule Warriors and Breath of the Wild in the mean time at least.
      Seriously though, this wasn't even the first time Metroid was the reason I bought a new consol. I did the same thing with the Wii and Other M... yeah, that didn't turn out so well, although I don't hate that game as much as most either. Still, really got my hopes up that between Prime 4 and now Dread, my Metroid "obsession" will pay off this time.

    If they had just gone straight into the Metroid reveal without mentioning Prime first, everyone would have immediately assumed it was a Prime trailer and then potentially been disappointed that they still don't have anything to show from that game. That seems the most obvious reason they announced it before showing it.

      Wish it would’ve gone something like “we are hard at work on Metroid prime 4 but dont have anything to show just yet. I get the idea the "telling you what they're going to reveal before they play the trailer" comes from how they got burned a few times in the last few months by telling people "we're going to announce an unspecified thing" and then everyone got hyped for the next industry-breaking game and it turned out to be very niche DLC.

    • @Progga1
      @Progga1 3 года назад +109

      Yeah I agree. And regardless of how exciting Metroid 5 is, I think especially for the Dread trailer it made sense to mention Metroid 5 beforehand, because it has to "compete" with Prime 4 hopes. So it was nice to address Prime 4 quickly and then move on. Though, there might be more exciting ways of saying "this is not Prime 4", so it was sort of the safest option.

    Regarding what you said about Kazuya in Smash, he actually does have a lot of reach, believe it or not. The Tekken franchise has sold over 50 million copies (and that’s not even including the amount of times people played it in the arcades), but it doesn’t have a lot of overlap with the Nintendo community, so it doesn’t seem as large as something like Banjo (whose entire franchise has sold less than 10 million, but is very intertwined with the community). From an outside perspective, this was a great decision that’ll likely get more than a few people to pick up the game.
    By the way, the whole Kazuya-throwing-people-off-a-cliff thing is actually a reference to the series, where he and Heihachi kind of have a back-and-forth of doing so to one another.

    Damn Arlo you seem hard to please today haha. I thought the BotW 2 ending trailer was great, it showed just enough new mechanics to get my interest but not too much that I would have no questions. I am so happy about that, and a 2022 release date is pretty good considering the world situation. I was never under the impression it would release before holiday 2021 to begin with, so 2022 doesn't seem that bad! We haven't had a warioware game in YEARS, and although they are not for me I definitely don't think it was inevitable. Metroid goes without saying, that's just great, and I loved your reaction by the way. Mario party is pretty nice, the DS game you mentioned didn't have any boards, just mini games -- it sucked. The new one is giving people what they want, classic boards and loads of minigames: not something I will play but definitely a step in the right direction. And then Kazuya, again, I don't care much for him but tekken is HUGE. This is a really big reveal for a lot of the playerbase, and he looks like he might have some fun mechanics. The only things I really cared about were metroid and BotW 2, kazuya will be another character to play around with, but everything else I think takes a step in a good direction for Nintendo. Lots of people wanted a more classic Mario party game with proper online, warioware has been gone for years and 2D metroid, I never thought we would see that again. This direct made me happy, and I think it stands leagues above anything else we have seen this year at E3.

      Same with Terry for me tbh, it's "cool" to get the crossovers with the big fighting games especially when they have most of their inputs from the actual game but all ot really translates to is a character I won't bother to actually learn because I'm unable to make full use of them, lol. I've kind of just accepted I'll always be a little disappointed whenever the reveal isn't Sora or Dante but I'm fine with that since we've already gotten some insanely good ones like Banjo.

    For Kazuya, I'd argue he has MORE of a reach than Banjo does. Tekken is one of the best selling franchises around and a lot of people know who Kazuya is since he's a major character from the games, back to being the protagonist of the first game and a villain later on.

    • @Zorua3
      @Zorua3 3 года назад +29

      Yeah it honestly isn’t even close lmao. Kazuya/the Mishimas and Tekken have a HUGE presence in the gaming landscape and Banjo-Kazooie is pretty much totally unknown outside of the “N64 nostalgia” crowd.

    • @lyncario5515
      @lyncario5515 3 года назад +11

      Furthering this: Banjo Kazooie on the N64, 20 years ago: 3.2 million sales
      Tekken 7, a game still being sold today: over 5 million sales
      And that's not taking into account how Tekken 3 (that was 20 years ago, like Banjo on the N64) sold something like 8 millions.
      So statistically, Kazuya is a far bigger deal than Banjo, yes.

    • @jonfresh42
      @jonfresh42 3 года назад +3

      I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, but how many people buys Tekken games exclusively for the multiplayer with friends and barely even registers the names of most of the characters though? Tekken has loads of characters, right, so there’s a decent chance a large percentage of its player base hasn’t even touched him.
      Some western fans massively overestimate the pull of Banjo though.

      @@jonfresh42 Just about everyone who's played Tekken at some point knows who Kazuya is and has more than likely tried him out.
      Even setting aside the story modes in which he's usually the main character, he's everywhere in the advertisements and takes centre stage in the game's box art.
      Not to mention he's literally the character the game defaults to on the character select screen, which is obviously going to push people to at least experiment with him.
      He's also consistently one of the most highly used characters in the game. Kazuya's are plentiful online.
      Just about everyone in the Tekken community is able to memorise a lot of the series cast in general anyway. There are a lot of people who play Smash exclusively for the multiplayer that can still name most of the characters, even from games they haven't played, and it's no different in Tekken.

    1:47 'He's not gonna have a massive reach like banjo'
    Tekken has had seven games, a handful of spinoffs, predates Smash Bros, and has a pro scene that the devs actually cares about. You're entitled to not like the character but how does a character from a series as HUGE as Tekken have 'no reach?'. Kazuya/Tekken reps have been the air ever since Smash started to be developed by Namco Bandai, it was a matter of time. He's not just 'karate punch guy' he has like thirty fucking moves that they're somehow squeezing into a game with three attack buttons.
    You're right that Banjo is a character that a lot of people really wanted and its a pipe dream come true that hes in smash after all this time, as is most of the DLC characters like Joker, Sephiroth, Terry and Steve, most of which not a lot of people ever dreamed of being in. Kazuya absolutely makes sense and is just as much of a big deal as any of the new additions, especially a character thats had three games and one of which was good lmao

    Personally, I'm not hung up on the idea of them presenting a trailer the right way. Nintendo directs are meant to be a means to show off a game and whether or not a game looks good matters more to me that whether or not the advertisement was done correctly. If I got the game I wanted, I'm not gonna nitpick.

    Advance Wars, an old, neglected GameBoy property, is back. If Golden Sun were to return, it would be in the same boat. Their developer, Camelot, will be wide open in a few days when Mario Golf releases. They've also already finished Mario Tennis, so the essential, every-generation Mario Sports games are done. We are in the 2nd half of the Switch's lifespan, where most major franchises have 1-2 new games, and the time has come to experiment with B-series and new IPs. The Switch is super successful, with a huge installbase known for giving less popular series their new best-selling entry. Now is the opportune time for Golden Sun.

    • @QwertyCaesar
      @QwertyCaesar 3 года назад

      Camelot is a veteran enough studio that I'm certain they're already working on their next project already and have been for at least a year. Re-Boot Camp had to have been in development for quite a while so if Camelot really is working on a Golden Sun 1/2 pack like WayForward is with Advance Wars we could see it by the end of next year.

    Hey man. I've been playing Nintendo games since 1987, when I was a kid, and I didn't even play any Metroid until 2010 when I picked up the Metroid Prime Trilogy - and got addicted. The base can grow. I will buy that, and anything else that they make of Metroid, and I'm playing Samus Returns on my 3DS as I speak.

    • @SamPearman
      @SamPearman 3 года назад

      I picked up Metroid with Metroid 3 (Super Metroid) and have obviously played everything since (and prior). I didn't love Samus Returns as much as most people, so I'm a little apprehensive about Dread playing similarly, but that isn't gunna stop me from getting a game which is a proper follow-up to Fusion. More than anything I wanna know what happened to her suit post-X!
      I am still happy Samus Returns exists though, because now I can play Zero Mission > Returns > Super > Fusion > Dread and not feel like I'm missing anything =D

    The Kazuya announcement is a huge deal. That's a massive franchise we have there, surely bigger in terms of sales and popularity than most of the DLC characters we got so far, including Banjo, Joker and Min Min. I think Arlo is just not appreciating the announcement, the modality, the vulcano joke and the way the character is built because he's clearly not a fan of the series (during the live reaction he wasn't even sure he's from Tekken, and he's the literal face of Tekken).
