I missed an audio glitch in this episode. If you make your own videos and wonder why this sometimes happens, it's called "audio clipping" which occurs when volume exceeds the maximum processing threshold computers are capable of. The result is that the program cuts all soundwaves to the maximum amplitude (since you've above the maximum process-able amplitude) which, depending on how severe the reduction is, causes a static-like sound; fortunately, it lasts a mere fraction of a second here (nor is it loud because I've compressed the audio), but now you know how "ear rape" sound effects are created if you wanted to do that.
So this is just the long way of saying ur loud af
Also how overdrive and fuzz works on guitar, which is why a lot of overdrive and distortion sounds better than clean sometimes, it makes the bass and treble at roughly the same frequencies.
In nightmare, it's a totally different story. Guns even with suppressors will attract zeds, crossbows are completely silent.
Yes, it should obvious that this was created before the Nightmare Zone was released though.
Tony Tang woah. Tysm for this! I’m totally going to use crossbows in Nightmare now! 👏😄
Cross bows arent silent ... shoot a zombie in a horde and the others will go to the bolted fallen zombies location
@@SecretOfMonkeyIsland784 they are silent...the zombies will always do that no matter what weapon u use
@@SecretOfMonkeyIsland784 thing is, the noise the crossbow makes is not on you, it’s on whatever it hits. So using the crossbow at a distance will not get you caught
I do not know English, but I understand this author perfectly.
I hope that the visual aid tells enough of the story for me.
My first thought on crossbows was Meh.... But as I'm using them more frequently, I'm really enjoying them. Thanks for your review.
You have a favorite one so far?
@@GitGudFox Auto for sure, hands down. Half the time I miss, but since they are silent, no big deal.
@@joedavis6377 That's my favorite one, too. It's the main weapon I use now unless I have something specific planned.
@@GitGudFox I love how this game has evolved. I've played it thru twice now, and I have always found something different. I look forward to starting a new community! So many variables.
X-bow + Gunslinging= amazing.
EX2 Sniper bolt penetration IS good for taking out a horde with 3-4 bolts. Last night had almost 25 zeds with 10 bolts.
It's very situational. The stars have to align, or the has to be so many zombies that their heads are all just clustered up. It also still is a depletion of resources since it's difficult to recover the bolts when they fly all over the place.
I'm happy you made this video, as the hunting crossbow was driving me nuts. I couldn't figure out that the bolts were going THROUGH the targets and vanishing into the grass, as I never happened to get multiples lined up to see the pass-thru effect. I just thought they were somehow breaking and being unrecoverable (and that the ones in the walls behind my target were just my bad aim).
I find I like crossbows when combined with stealth, as I can take out a whole horde without being noticed, whereas even with a good silencer, a rifle still makes enough noise to catch their attention if you're close enough.
If you can get the Echo X3, it can be used similarly to a rifle since it is semi-automatic. It is one of the best weapons in the game.
I am buying an Xbox next week so I have been watching all of these guides to get better at the game💪🏼
It has a steep initial learning curve, but it gets pretty easy once you know what to do.
Git Gud Fox: "Crossbows are not that great."
Also Git Gud Fox: *uses crossbows on every play through*
:P
It's still true within the context of the video. Nightmare Zone didn't exist in the time of the Zedhunter update, so there wasn't a good reason to use the crossbows.
Nightmare Zone is what made the crossbow good.
Awesome videos...I'm really enjoying the game and this has definitely helped me out. Keep up the good work...
I will. I'm glad the video was useful to you!
I actually found the hunting crossbow first before any other, so I just got used to the way they passed through. It can be really annoying if not used right, but I've just learned to look for like a background area I can shoot at, like a barn wall or something as such. Me and my buddy play on nightmare and went fully silent for most of the game, the hunting one helped a lot with that. I havent found the repeater but I'm excited to use it when I do, thanks for the review
I bought repeater for 750 influence, love the crossbow
That's typically how I get mine.
I love Crossbows. I started playing a few days ago, found one of these bad boys and it's such a blast to use. Shooting it feels incredibly natural to me, it's silent and doesn't break.
agreed,i used crossbow to deal with infestation, kill zombies one by one from distance
They should add motorcycles so I can finally be Daryl.
That'd be pretty neat.
Days gone solved that issue lol
i would like bicycles so that i won't attract zombies while driving lol
I would prefer tesla. Could require access to electricity to upgrade a parking with a car charger. And long charging time. But in return it would give a free fuel, silence and good acceleration.
I just picked up state of decay 2 on steam, and I love crossbows. I take out hoards with them all the time with ease. It also makes it super easy to level up everyone's shooting super quick because I just make continual head shots. I've learned that aiming slightly above Zed heads gets you head shots, especially if you are shooting while tracking behind a hoard.
Sniper crossbows are amazing, I’ve gotten a 5 headshot collateral while kiting a horde of plague zombies. It’s insane how easy you can snap to their head with the sharpshooting skill and the insanely fast reload speed helps too.
I have had some crazy shots with sniper crossbows, but the consistency of the repeater is what makes it my preferred choice.
So your best example is what would have been easier with a gun
GingerShrimp40 a gun is louder and requires maintenance
It just seems like to much of a hassel when a bolt action with a silencer is basically the same
I actually found the repeater crossbow a couple of in game days ago! It is pretty useful when taking out multiple targets.
Great video! I love crossbows, now i will have to search for that one that holds 10 ammo in a clip!👍👍👍
It is the rarest of the them, so it can be elusive.
I hated the crossbows when they first came out, but I fell in love with the light crossbow that I pair with my pathologist, although I’m not seeing the increase of plague samples by using the crossbow compared to using close combat. Test it out and let me know what you think.
I love your videos I play state of decay 2it is so fun I love your videos so much
There really good on nightmare mode.
Crossbows are some of my favorite weapons.
they're* lmao!
echo-x2/hunting crossbow is very useful in dealing with hordes of armored zed silently, one shot to break the helmet and another to pop the head and i think this is the most sensible way to use these op crossbows
Great video, but I will note that you were calling range accuracy
They play very different roles, since it was range that was improving more, which just meant there was less drop to the bolt
i've found that the sniper x-bow does a good job on the ferals, if you can get the drop on them
Those vendors, how do we encounter them? Random?
Crossbows are obsolete when you've got the Prepper .22 though.
Nah, you still have to repair the prepper, and you can't recover the 0.22 rounds, so they're more expensive. The closest gun replacement to the crossbow is the Echo S2 Bolt Action Rifle.
I’ve got a Daryl Dixon-based character who uses a crossbow.
I got really lucky with his traits because he’s awkward around people.
I use him as my go to when going on supply and scouting runs
How on earth do you even get that X3 repeater crossbow in NM mode now?
Hey Fox, will having a character with either craftmanship or munitions improve my bolt creation output, by decreasing the parts/materials cost? Keep it up!
Craftsmanship will but munitions will not. You can also get a workshop mod called the "bolt crafting toolkit" which will further improve efficiency.
I feel there was a real opportunity lost by not making it able to shoot explosives, attractant lure (which would have been sooooo fun), or like a smoke bomb to hide your characters. Truly a shame that still hasn't been implemented, very easy and amazing fix
I mean... the hunter/sniper crossbow goes through bulletproof helmets, right?
I’ve been able to find, extremely consistently, crossbows from Campsites. The campsite at the very beginning of the Cascade Hills map has 4 or 5 areas to loot as soon as you start the map, and I almost always find at least 1 crossbow from those campsites
That could make sense since people might be hunting at campsites.
And there’s a rare item cache all the way in the back of the campsites up on a ridge that I’ve found several rare melee weapons
Got 2 in 4 cabins. Both sniper crossbows
After using all of them some would say the Sniper Crossbow is best, but they pierce Zed's and you have to go looking for them, The combat is best in slot, Standard Bolts for more damage, Optic for range and the bolts drop were the enemy dies.
I think that'd matter more if enemies were stronger. The only time standard bolt's damage is going to come into play is against a juggernaut since it isn't slain in a single hit unlike all the other zombies. On top of that, crossbows are just not great weapons for killing juggernauts, anyways, so using the X1 as a best in slot weapon is playing to the crossbow's weakness - killing juggernauts. The scope is definitely helpful, but the rapid fire capability of the X3 makes it better against aggressive zombies. The X1 punishes the player for every miss against attacking zombies a lot. A charging feral gives you 1 shot with the X1 to score your head shot while the X3 has about 3 shots before the feral is on you.
@@GitGudFox yeah in my experience the x3 is by far the best when ferals or groups,
if you play offline then without trade and other rewards ammunition isn't too rare but having the right ammo for all of your characters to have good enough guns equipped can be difficult to manage, especially when taking stealth into account
the x3 helps with that
Assorted ammo would be nice ie explosive, flame or luring type would be a fun addition to crossbows.
I feel like these zedhunter items add a ton of roleplay value, even if the gameplay isn't fundamentally affected.
They make a huge difference in Nightmare Zone.
I got the repeater early in game totally awesome
It's one of the best Nightmare Zone weapons.
yeah came to the same conclusion, light bolts are recoverd seemingly a lot more than normals
iif you have a height advantage or want to pop a few bloaters same time, normal would be a good run n gun
but yeah echo 3 is great for recovering them, feel like with resourcefulness lights are recoverable in around 85% normals maybe in the 40% region
The echo x2 is my go to Lowkey I had a x1 I got rid of it or lost it I love the x2 plus it isn’t that bad when you can easily craft more bolts or carry 2 stacks I’ve been trying out the light crossbow tho it’s actually really great
How many small bolts does it take to take out plague jugs?
A lot, like 30 or more.
I didn't used to like the crossbows in State of Decay 2 but as I grow my characters they're growing on me and now that I know there is some other ones that I can get through quests I might look into that last one and one or two of sniper crossbows we will see.
They becoming increasingly more powerful the higher the difficulty you're on.
Not sure if the amount of ammo you get by crafting has changed or there is a difference between platforms or difficulty...
Without any mods, I get 20 Standard Bolts for 2 Materials, and 30 Light Bolts for the same cost.
I found 3 Hunting Crossbows in a camp sight, but I can't find the Echo X-2 Sniper Crossbow anywhere. The X1 I have several copies of, however, and keep my people at camp armed with them at all times (I'd rather use quiet weapons for less attention)
It's one of the rarest of the bows. It might even be the rarest.
The light crossbow and X1 are probably the best alternatives. The light crossbow has the 2nd fastest reload speed.
Just be careful because I had the same idea, because I am playing in Nightmare mode and I didn't want to draw attention. However, I came back from a run to find a Plague Juggernaut, horde of Armored Zeds and a regular horde waiting on me. By the time I was able to take out everything I lost 2 people in my camp and it was nearly 3 as one of my other members had blood plague and just had 4 minutes before they were going to die.
Can you use the aim snap ability with crossbows ?
Yes, but it requires some practice to use it right because the crossbow's arrows have a projectile time and a bullet drop. If the zombie is standing still or moving towards you, then its head will be pretty level with the arrow, but if the zombie is moving sideways to your aim? There is a chance that the arrow will miss because it will take a moment to travel, and their head will be farther along as they run compared to where the arrow travels to.
My favorite weapon is the trumball valley silenced scoped revolver. Everytime I finish a play through I make sure my lichenoligist Has the handgun ammo press and like 4 of those revolvers on them so that I can bring it to my next play through.
Ah, that echo revolver? I like that one a lot too.
In lethal mode crossbows are a godsend
I like the piercing crossbow because you can just blast their legs off. This helps with hordes, 1 shot you can down 3 half the hoard. Also helps with dismembering bounties.
A plausible use. I'm not sure how important it is to be able to kill hordes in this manner though. Normally I'd expect people to just ignore hordes on higher difficulties or run them over on lower difficulties.
(I'm on Xbox one) I feel they could be improved but I really like them, its my main weapon.
If you get the Echo-X3 and use the Gunslinger perk for shooting, it feels almost like a regular semi-automatic rifle aside from the bolt travel time.
In lethal zone crossbows are your friend.
The light crossbow early game is a must.
The repeating crossbow is a godsend.
Survivor with
Marathon
Stealth
Close combat
Gunslinging
Can deal with most threats the jugernaughts are a massive problem though.
Most hordes get stealth killed.
It is only boaters and ferrals I use ranged weapons on.
Even then if you can get a boater to chase you it usually pops before it can damage you.
so basically use Combat Crossbow (to recover bolts) for standard bolts and sniping from medium-long range, and Repeating Crossbow for Light Bolts and short-medium range.
I've liked the crossbow with my stealth character. Killing a juggernaut without it knowing its being killed is hilariously great.
Takes a ton of arrows but yeah.
Took out hordes with resourcefulness mudslinging and repeating crossbow
There was a facility mod called the advanced bolt making kit it lest u made fire bolts and bomb bolts, but they cancelled it and even if u do manage to get it, u don’t get the bolts.
Fire arrows and explosive arrows? That sounds pretty nice. I would use those in a heartbeat.
crossbows are Always my main weapon of choise. Easy to get, very very cheap to use since 20 bolts lasts for about 50-60 kills pending on how much you miss. And with the right skill its almost impossible to go empty. Nice way to lvl up shooting fast, just track hords and snipe away. Also very good at taking out infestations, just get the god damn screamer. lol
With resourcefulness, you recover bolts like 9 out of 10 times. It's pretty insane.
Only recover the light bolt though, the standard bolt are harder to recover especially with the high damage cross bow , it seem like shoot so strong it break the bolt to went out of sight
I got the hunting crossbow and the light crossbow at the beginning of my cascade hills run guess I was lucky
It's all random, so you can get them very early or not at all.
I'm mixed about them. At first I thought the Hunter and Sniper crossbows were great, but the penetrating shots do mean I find myself wasting time trying to line up multiple head shots, and trying to shoot where the bolts will hit something near by after passing through the targets. On top of finessing the shot due to drop rate.
It's much easier and faster to just pull out my 5.56 police sniper and drop zeds in quick order. I'm even able to get two or three kills with one bullet often enough.
I will admit I didn't consider the light crossbow as a light weight traveling weapon, so I may try that at some point.
Thank you for the thoughts and considerations.
The power of crossbows is with resourcefulness which gives you something akin to an 80% chance to recycle arrows. It allows a 30 arrow stack of bolts to last longer than 90 rounds of bullets.
There are many times where just finding 1 or 2 arrows can mean stealth killing a horde of zombies with the recycle bonus from resourcefulness.
The other value of crossbows is that the ammo uses material supply instead of ammo supply.
It means that your day-to-day slaying consumes materials preserving your ammo supply for more interesting things like 0.50 ammo and explosives.
@@GitGudFox I definitely appreciate the added consideration. Using a crossbow does make for a slightly different play style for me and I like all the comments below about how the quieter nature of crossbows makes a difference in the more difficult modes of the game. I'm going to make sure I give crossbows a lot more use and see how they fit in with my games. Thank you for all the great content! It is very much appreciated.
I mostly use the hunters cross bow.... the only draw back i have is its like 12 pounds. I actually like the piercing. If there is a big herd or an infested house, i like to shoot out a leg (getting a few zombies in 1 shot to crawl) and then i have a better chance of getting the arrows back
I know someone already commented it and that this was made before nightmare mode, but in nightmare mode, these are REALLY good (except for the penetrating crossbows) ammo is not the easiest thing to come by in that mode
Yeah, these originally came out when there were no additional difficulties.
Hello there. İs crafting bolts nerfed? Cuz i can build 45 light bolts with the mod. I searched the internet and found nothing about how to craft 60. İf someone can help would be great...
I think you need craftsmanship as well.
Personally, I like them to me they are easier to use than most guns in the game
Too bad the snipers make you hunt for bolts as they are the best looking ones. The repeater looked promising just wish that one had a scope too. Thanks for the video like always I find them helpful haven't played much with this update and was curious about the crossbows.
@@GitGudFox I agree I prefer number damage like in many rpgs. Have a weapon mark saying 5-10dmg it varies depending on range. Closer range would do more damage. This should be for average torso shot. As head shot is mostly 1 shot kill no matter what weapon you use. Then we can tell any weapon who's damage would be around let's say 25 would dismember easily. If it is let's say 75 pretty much a gun that will drop a juggernaut in 2-3 hits. Or something like that
Another thing that annoys me are the stats for blunt weapons, knockdown and impact. How do they differ? To this day, I don't know. Since the game doesn't explain the stats, you have to rationalize it based on the word choices. To me, impact and knockdown seem like the same thing. If I hit you with a sledgehammer, it knocked you down because it has a lot of impact... this is further complicated by how the game behaves.
Suppose... knockdown is literally knocking something down, and impact is... I don't know, the probability of giving the victim a head concussion. Both of these would be portrayed the same way in SoD2... by being knocked down. Even the feral, who you clearly daze by hitting it enough times with a blunt weapon still falls down making it unclear whether or not the impact dazed him or the knockdown did.
I just pick the blunt weapon that has a lot of knockdown and solid ease of use.
@@GitGudFox yes I only hope that they read this discussion and when they make a sod3 they fix these huge mistakes they made and make it better. These mistakes are an easy fix that would improve the game multiple times
I never see the last automatic crossbow, is rare
It's the least common of them all. You can only get it in 2 ways unless they added more.
1) The mysterious quest about the crossbow killer
2) From crossbow wandering merchants.
If there are other ways to get it, I'm not sure, but those are the 2 surefire ways to get it.
I feel as though the final take at the end did not age particularly well.
I still think the order of crossbows is good, and they do have problems in Nightmare Zone still. All of the manual reload crossbows struggle in combat since you can only fire 1 shot off before having the huge reloading cycle.
The Echo-X3 is still the only really "good" crossbow. The others are kind of something you'd use because there aren't other options available.
Got Hunting Crossbow from looting several times in Nightmare Zone.
AP = OP
First crossbow was echo X2 got echo X3 repeater by excepting a person in. Although it glitched when I put in storage and disappeared. Turned xbox off then on and got it back😋😋😋😋👌
I found the crossbow just plain ol cool
And they are completely silent in nightmare mode
Coupled with marathon, swordplay, stealth and a completely silent sword, you basically got yourself a ninja
Personally think the sniper crossbow's damage should translate into higher damage to juggernauts though instead of being completely useless
I only got this game a week ago and at first I didn't care for the crossbows, but I've fallen in love with them, especially for clearing out groups of Z's hanging out near my base, without using up my ammo supply.
I'm currently at the fenced in warehouse, and while I have all ammo types, I still don't have a ton of any one caliber. Most of the weapons I've found are either 7.62 or 9mm, and RNG has not been great to me for ammo for those. I've got more .22 ammo then anything, but very few weapons for it, and those I do have breakdown disturbingly fast, a tracked a ruger 10/22 and from new to broken was only around 20 or so shots.
That's my only real complaint with the game so far, and that's how fast guns and melee weapons break down. I understand why they need wear and tear for these items, but IMO it's overly aggressive, and I'd rather there be fewer, but higher durability weapons then the way it currently is.
It's probably the make parts more important. I agree they break a little too fast. Maybe they should make parts harder to obtain but make weapons more durable.
@@GitGudFox Yeah, I'd prefer that, even though if done right it would ultimately be the same balance.
Although I didn't realize that the weapons handling skill actually repaired broken firearms until last night. Before that I had written that off as the least desired shooting skill, thankfully I do have one person with it. I just wish they could fix weapons that were close to breaking, instead of them needing to be fully broken.
What about the snow pack crossbow?
You mean the winter solstice? That was added like a year after this vidoe.
@@GitGudFox I know, but is it any good?
I don't really like it because it has huge bullet drop, and you have to learn to aim it specifically where as the other crossbows have familiar aim between the standard bolt shooters and light bolt shooters, so I don't use it.
6:41 also vary vary little bit less control
They are all really similar. The differences are quite subtle.
Peaple complain about having to retrieve the bolts from the bodies. I personally find it satisfying, even more if you watched Daryl scenes in "the walking dead" series
I would rather pick up bolts from bodies than have to go to a nearby supply locker to pull out more ammo.
On my first playthrough I found the huning crossbow in a sniper/hunting tower by a body of water
They're pretty useful for hunting ferals quietly.
@@GitGudFox my first was a echo sniper crossbow from the 3rd cell tower I climbed in megher valley
It was kinda funny I’m on lethal zone so I always use crossbows and you start somewhat dissing them ,but realized this was before
Before Lethal Zone, they were really clunky because ammo was plentiful, and it just mean you were doing everything slower when you could just be using a gun.
The higher difficulties changed that.
since they are upping the noise on a rifle a bolt action will not be so great.. With the difficulties and the lower resources Ammo might not be as easy to get. I do notice you made a lot of Assumptions that will be tested after todays update..
ammo isn't hard to get? I'm playing nightmare mode and I never have enough ammo and I am going through any and all ammo I have.
It's not hard to get. You just buy ammo using a Trade Depot. None of the resources are hard to get when you just use a Trade Depot to buy it all.
Also, if you're running out of ammo a lot in Nightmare Zone, then you're probably using your gun too much, and if you're using your gun too much, then you're probably fighting zombies excessively, and if you're fighting zombies excessively, then it means you're probably being too noisy or not traveling around the map enough to find areas that don't have many zombies.
I ONLY play on Nightmare Zone, and I don't run into ammo problems even when I do a fresh start with nothing. Ammo shortages are likely a symptom of excessive shooting.
Where do we find the repeating crossbow?
Zedhunter merchant or certain mysterious quests.
@@GitGudFox dont recall seeing a zed hunter before
It is one of the less common merchants.
@@GitGudFox dlc content?
No, it's just rare.
How does range mean accuracy ? Never has in sod before
Give me the time stamp where I said it. I don't remember the details of the video.
@@GitGudFox one example, around 5:38 or 9 you said that the bow was slightly more accurate than the last but you had shown the range bar.
@@GitGudFox range is different from acc is all in sayn😁
@@atlas4789 Yeah, I relistened to it. In this context, I was using the terms colloquially. By that, I mean I was not literally equating the stats as equal such that A = B. The context is that a weapon that can shoot farther is more likely to hit zombies than a weapon that can't shoot far which increases your hit ratio which increases your accuracy.
The first crossbows are for early game not everyone has unlimited ammo early on
I don't think anyone has unlimited ammo early on. Crossbows are useful at pretty much all stages of the game, but they are not very useful in standard zone which is what this video was based on as there was no Nightmare Zone yet.
Git Gud Fox they are still useful in standard just to kill at range when you don’t have a ton of ammo to be wasting
Normally ammo is pretty plentiful in Standard Zone. It's very rich with resources. There could be a situation where you are low on ammo, but that's usually at the very, very beginning of the game when you don't have a crossbow either.
I liked it when you said crossbow. Lol
Honestly I think Daryl (sp?) Was the reason why this was popular. He's a walking dead icon. There were mods for this in the original game. I rarely use guns anyhow. I'm more of a suicide run guy.
They became DRASTICALLY stronger when the higher difficulties came out.
Echo crossbow holds infinite arrows which is awesome
I guess as long as infinite is between 1 and 10.
I want an instant Legolas bow in the game.
Dev must give an extra passive skill by character background with a crossbow or bow skill to reduce it's reload time and sway. Sounds like daryl
Usually just yolo it and start small hordes lol. Usually I trade 2 maybe 3 for a rucksack lol
They're not too useful in the Standard Zone, but the Echo X3 is my primary weapon in the Nightmare Zone.
@@GitGudFox I have a tendency to restart alot lol
I really2 wish SOD3 will allow players to mod weapons deeper
I'm on a bus so I watch it on low volume and put captions on, why are the captions coming in Korean with no other option?
I've never set the captions before. I'm not sure. I'll have to take a look.
They say crossbows are silent but when you kill a zombie in a horde the other zombies immediately run to the location of the fallen bolted zombie. In nightmare this can lead to a scenario where you are trapped on top of a car head shoting zombies for ages just to try and clear a safe pathway to get some loot then get away.
The crossbow itself is silent. The sound of the arrow hitting something, such as a zombie's exploding skull is not silent though.
This is also true of guns except even a silenced gun makes sound when fired in addition to the impact of the bullet.
@@GitGudFox I see your point but doesnt this negate the benefit of the crossbow?, after all you are not going to fire it at the ground, its always going to be at a zombie :)
Sometimes you will fire it at an object to intentionally create sound. I have done it with infestations before. I shot a door luring the zombies over, then began shooting the zombies themselves.
As for the advantage of crossbows, their advantage comes from being able to reuse their crossbow bolts, not require any repairs, and be the most silent "guns" in the game.
They have very few weaknesses. The only major one is the lack of firing rate. Even the repeater has a sort of "pump action" shooting speed which is slower than normal.
Good video and good info. I do believe that all crossbows that use standard bolts pen through zombies. And I do disagree about them not being good at dealing with hordes of standard zombies. You very frequently can hit multiple headshots with one bolt, especially in lethal this is very good when dealing with infestations and roaming hordes. It's one of my favorite ways of dealing with large numbers. If you are strafing and take a second to line your shot it isn't uncommon to hit 2+ headshots and many more body shots. And often times those body shots cause a stagger which chain react off of other zombies causing many zombies to fall over. I also personally find it pretty easy to grab enough of my bolts still to be able to bring a single stack of standard bolts and just reapply whenever at base or an Outpost. I don't think I'd be able to beat lethal mode without using crossbows all through the early and mid game
Only the hunting crossbow and the Echo2 can penetrate. The others will stop the moment they hit something, be it a zombie or some kind of obstacle.
@@GitGudFox impressive response time, especially for a rather old video. I guess I never run anything other than the ekko then because like you said it's a bit more accurate, whatever that translates to. Has your opinion changed these days at all for crossbows? On lethal especially? If not, what do you run when ammo is scarce? I find bolts much easier to manage early game
Well, the way RUclips comments work is I see all comments on the channel in chronological order across all videos, so even if someone commented on my original video, I would still see it in the new comments list.
Crossbows became better when Nightmare Zone came out. That's because, on Standard Zone, silenced guns are sufficiently quiet, and ammo is plentiful.
Once Nightmare Zone came out, all of the crossbows are pretty useful. This is especially true if you have Resourcefulness which raises the bolt recovery rate to like 90ish%. That said, the main crossbow you want to use is the Echo X3. It's probably the best all around weapon to use in Nightmare Zone and Lethal Zone unless your community is heavily established and has access to near limitless supplies of ammo.
Best crossbow is the 10rd one hands down.
They can all be useful, especially on nightmare zone, but some are definitely better than others.
@@GitGudFox how are the other crossbows useful? I havent actually played on nightmare but if i had a hoarde of zombies on me i wouldnt want a 1 shot crossbow unless i had lots of stamina.
I noticed this because i can't aim for shit. But if you shoot a bolt into a fence it works as a decoy and the z's mong out at the fence allowing you sneak in for a silent takedown.
Whatever the bolt impacts makes a relatively quiet but still audible sound to very close by zombies.
They need more bolts.. Fire/Explosive
this must be prenerf, since now it takes more than 50 standard bolts to kill a juggernaut even on standard mode.
This was shortly after crossbows landed in the game.
Oh they flew away. No wonder I'm not picking up bolts.
Yeah, avoid the hunting crossbow and sniper crossbow if you want more recovered arrows.
Use crossbow with hero ability "aim snap"
I wouldn't fully trust it. The bolts aren't instant travel speed, so you can still miss in some cases.
Why are the subtitles in Korean?
There shouldn't be any subtitles at all unless Google has just automatically activated them.
The only good one is the fast crossbow
I think they're all good in Nightmare Zone when you don't have an option to choose, but certainly once you get the X3, it will outperform all of the other ones.
You missed the differences in weight for the Echo-variants. They don't just have slightly better stats, they also weigh less, making them just the better choice over their regular counterparts.
I almost lost the repeater crossbow by dying in nightmare mode
The threat of loss is what adds to the thrill of Nightmare Zone.
@@GitGudFox yeah the adrenaline was real
Its a cool addition. Remember crossbows were replaced by firearms in real life because they were superior. Doesn't mean you can't have fun with them.
I mean yea, but crossbows would be better in a zombie apoc because it will cause no noise and u will be able to keep the bolts
Repeating crossbow and light crossbow are the best ones. Other categories are garbage.
Also, the sad reality is that even these 2 crossbows just can't compete with guns. They're fun, and that's why I use em, but a suppressed .22lr handgun will lay waste to an entire horde before most crossbows can even get their second shot off. Guns are better for hordes, individual zombies, freaks, enemy survivors... EVERYTHING really.
In short: The crossbow is more toy than weapon.
That depends on what difficulty you're playing on.
If you're playing on a high level of difficulty, the Echo X3 is the best general purpose weapon in the game because of Resourcefulness. Resourcefulness lets you salvage arrows about 90% of the time meaning a single stack of 30 bolts + the 10 bolts in the crossbow are equal to having MANY stacks of bullets junking up your inventory or requiring constant resupply and pressing out additional ammo.
On higher difficulties, especially Nightmare and Lethal, you will face humongous amounts of enemies. Even 0.22 caliber weapons cannot match the efficiency of an Echo X3.
Crossbows so slow
They are unless you get an Echo X3.
@@GitGudFox wish it can upgraded to auto like has 8 cip
Did you even played the game you talk about so much once ?!? Either its this or your Nickname really fits you very well. Cause you have obviously no understanding of the game at all
0/10 bait. Don't worry, if you watch enough of my videos, you'll be able to survive Standard Zone without relying on modded weapons. It just takes a little practice.
@@GitGudFox although Self-Confidence is good for you its just a waste of time so stop encouraging yourself
