- Could the BMW iX M60 be all things to all car enthusiasts? It's fast, sleek, high-tech and high performance - but as Gav found out in this very New Zealand review, this quarter of a million dollar car isn't perfect. But boy, does it come close!
Something that really sets this car apart from the competition is its enormous lithium ion battery, giving the car an incredible claimed range. At 112 kWh in capacity, it has enough energy to reach up to 566 km per charge. But is that claim realistic in New Zealand conditions? As usual, there's only one way to find out!

Who cares about the front grill, I like it! If you don't don't buy the car. Thank you for making the sections, so I could skip the whimpering! 🙂
Gavin is so funny. I love this channel ❤
21:20 ish. When he said what sounded like F**k A Papa I just lol'd.
What a fun video to watch. It was informative and interesting. Well done. Subscribed. TU.
Great fun review. Loved it.
I am typing this with big grin on my face and was hoping you would not forget the launch of this beast. Great review of a very special EV. Thank you Gavin for the laughs too.
0:49, that's straight out of Wakanda! Badass looking car!
Great EV and Review. Cannot imagine BMW selling many of these in Nz due to the price.
I traded my Model Y Performance for a brand new IX M60. I’ve had it for almost a month now. I agree with your assessment of the A pillar, but other than that I freaking love this thing.
That front grill was definitely a design choice!
Was watching an australian youtuber on cars without spare tyres - his experience was about a motorist delivering husband to a Sydney hospital and put a hole in the side of tyre while driving around the hospital’s multiple story car park that had a low head height - mechanic vehicle was too high to get to car - it was a very long tortuous process of dragging / manhandling everything to the car, taking wheel away for a new tyre, returning the new tyre etc - I don’t like vehicles without some sort of spare wheel - a spacer saver will at least get you moving again - all be it at a slower speed / distance etc. You never know when a replacement wheel is needed - not just on the open road.
Pretty clear that BMW have beat Tesla at their own game! Over here in the states the iX qualifies for a $7500 credit if leased. AND, the xDrive50 (non M) variant has a reasonable sticker price. I am thoroughly enjoying one. Agree with you on all points.
Love your vids
I bought IX M50 amazing car driving is so much fun
Great EV and Review, love the car,hi from Australia $245k here.
Thanks Wayne! It's one of my favourites in terms of ride quality, range and gadgetry. A real piece of engineering! -Gav
thank you,pro - see u aroundd~ ;))
Hi. what kind of color is it, black or this dark gray?
Looks like fun. But seriously no V2L for $240K? Imagine a power cut at home without the use of 112kw backup or camping etc.
Its BMW. They built it in Germany. Thats no place for powercuts i guess.....
Those Liberace doors / knobs crystals are genuinely kitschy.
Do you think it deserves an M badge though? And what did you think of the grill? How much is the iX M50 in comparison to the M60? 50kW fast charger, wow they need 150kW minimum these days. Decent real world range, just the grill but at least your press car wasn't white.
Pretty solid EV for a lot of money! Our chip seal roads eat 10% of your battery just by existing, all that noise you hear is wasted energy :/
Front number plate needs to be relocated
How was the software experience compared to the Tesla? Is it buttery smooth?
It’s pretty decent, I have an IX40, iDrive 8 works well.
Tourism NZ should help fund your videos...
Meh I live in Norway, there are a lot more mountains in Norway than NZ, when you go up a mountain there almost always a downhill on the other side, you can regain a lot of energy on the down side. I have an IX 40, I can get over 400km consistently in summer, in winter 300 is about the max.
50kw is not a fast charger, that’s pathetic. Fast chargers are minimum 150kw, the charging network in NZ is shocking.
Dont think a speed afraid dude should do a test drive in a car like this...
Keep believing that it is not killing the planet! :-) Of course, the resources to build those batteries are immense. Fortunately, there are a lot of startups working hard to build systems where the resources for future and better batteries are produced from recycled materials, even plain household waste! So we can stop digging the stuff up out of the earth. GIY Evercraft technologies.
Car for the people......
Why do all these electric car review videos encourage rage anxiety in people? Just charge the thing up! :P
i wonder if the next reviewer ever wonders why is there's a weird potato smell in this car
The price is just stupid! Especially as the depreciation will be relatively high as it cannot accommodate vehicle system upgrades via over the air updates. The model y long range just blows this vehicle away. Hell you could buy a model x for this price which has far superior performance and handling
It can do over the air updates, I own one, it’s had several software and map updates since I purchased it. The big problem is cars build before April this year can’t be updated it IDrive 8.5, BMW have fucked up here.
I don’t know why Bmw couldn’t stick with the original body and put a electric power plant. The new body style, some weird space-age ugliness the thing looks hideous.
There is a hell of a lot more space in this than an X5.
I know luxury has its cost, but almost quarter of a million dollars! You could get 4xAtto3, 3xModel3/Y/Niro/Kona, or even a BMW i4M50 and enough solar panels to cover your entire roof. But none of those are quite as shouty as this Teutonic status symbol.
At 225Wh/km it’s not particularly efficient either, even when you can charge to 100% (I’m assuming it has an NCA battery). But my comments may just be caused by envy that you got to drive this for a few days 😊
All of those vehicles, save perhaps the Model 3 Performance and the i4 M50, are worse. And the iX is larger. It's really the best performing electric SUV I've driven.
It looks more like a Chinese car than a BMW.
And why are the disc brakes so badly used?
A big long SUV sure looks like a station wagon no thanks.
BYD will make something safer, longer range and 150k cheaper.
Check out the Xpeng G9
BYD really isn't that much better. It's just a car. Slower to charge, slower to drive, not particularly engaging, interior is, just good enough. Nothing to write home about on the tech side of things. Not exactly a comparison. Same goes for Xpeng. This is more of a NIO competitor.
