Massive thanks to Boss for giving me the opportunity to demo such an awesome amp. I love it. Its such a classic sounding amp. :) I hope you enjoy this vid people of the tube. :)
Dave, you are not only a gifted guitarist, but you make me smile with delight when I am both watching and listening to you - a rare commodity! Well played, sir.
DAAAVVEEEE! The intro jam is insane. Would love to see a tutorial of some of the techniques and licks. You're the go to source of frusciante goodness! Much love from Ireland 🇮🇪
Wish I found your fab channel a lot earlier, it would of saved me hours pondering on what and where I needed to go for inspiration, through your passion in YOUR own way you have not just mimicked and mastered some of the greatest guitar influences out there, you Dave have taken their great sounds far far further and created your own unique and totally awesome sound that is all you. I am blown away thank you Dave just keep doing these vids there are thousands out there like me who need real decent human beings like you who are willing to take this time to share and help us all
Rumour has it, that Les Paul was left trembling, could't feel it's legs and had to smoke a ciggarette after that. Seriously, you play with some feeling Dave, you can learn all the notes, techniques in the world, but that feel comes from within, and boy you have it.
I’ve watched this video maybe a dozen times. 1. Because the playing is epic and 2. It reminds me to continue learning this amp to really understand its capabilities and potential. Thank you for the great work Dave.
Ooh my God, now it looks like this could be another amp to get, it sounded killer mate, great playing as always. Will have to check out for sure, when my Oswald comes in. Thanks for all you give us Dave, you are the best on the tube
Such a lovely playing Dave, very cool amp as well. I’m hoping gen 3 katana will have option to switch between different tubes as well. Thanks again for what you do for us
This person of the tube enjoyed this. :) BTW Dave, the amp may be a beast, but you are for sure a monster. You seem to transfer energy to anything you touch. "Dave, is the best boost pedal..."
Really like this channel the man Dave Simpson is on top form in he’s game on this one great playing very inspirational great amp but made even more better with Dave on the guitars keep the content flowing straight and honest reviews and straight to playing
I wish I'd seen this last month, before I bought a Katana. t any rate, you're about the only guy talking about and demonstrating good tone with solid amps. So thanks for all you do. PS My 6 year old daughter thinks you look like a maniac ROFL.
@@Ray-Angel - it's a fuller and clearer sound. There is more definition and note separation. I did a recorded A/B into a DAW using a loop, a couple of set patches and an identical mic set up. Could hear the difference and see it in the wave form, the Waza waveform was busier if that makes sense.
@@jeffroq thanks for the detailed reply. So often I ask a question like that and the answer is "it's just better." I'm not sure the speaker on my MKII 100 is fully broken in yet. Once it is I'll look into a speaker upgrade of I feel it's needed.
Fantastic review mate, as usual. The 'Greenie' section (hope that's not presumptuous) with the Gibson was my fav but I'm biased in that way. All the guitars and your talent really showed the capabilities, Outstanding. Keep on rocking.
Great demo Dave ,Maybe down the road Boss will come out with a tube simulator pedal for Katana owners . I think this amp and the Tonemaster would likely be a photo finish
The Special blows away the Artist. I had a Blues Cube Artist with the Eric Johnson tone capsule, that was better than the Nextone Artist. Got stolen. Broke my heart. The Special came along that could do it all so went for it.
@@blackmirror5559 I came by the Nextone Special the hard way. My Blues Cube Artist with the Eric Jonson Tone Capsule was stolen. I cried. Then the insurance company said, here is some money to buy a new` amp. I saw the Special and a fresh start seemed the order of the day.
Your joy is palpable Dave, and I now have a new object of desire (even though I use amp sims for economic reasons LOL). I think my neighbours would lynch me if I tried playing through a 100 watt amplifier, but from the sound of it, given the choice between playing safe, and playing through one of those Nextones, well I could do with the exercise (running from a bunch of irate neighbours is a good cardio-vascular workout).
The way I see it: it's basicly a Fender Deluxe and a Marshall JTM45 - with bonus settings. But those two alone are two great amp (sounds) to build upon!
that part where dave takes out the lp, reminds me of gary moore . . . wow and the amp demo is icing and the it doesn't cover mistakes mention is pretty novel . . .
I got a chance to try one in the store and the clean channel was beyond amazing. The drive channel was weird though - I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the floor unit but the volume was so much lower on the drive channel - I could never get it to sound right. I need to get back and spend a little more time with it.
That's an amp & a half, you certainly get what you pay for with that amp. It's unfortunate I can't afford one myself. Great Demo Dave, you left no tone unturned. Exquse the pun.
Thanks on the vid. I am really anxious about the ToneMaster video. Can't wait on a full review. Because they do have the bright and reverb patch. Unless they fixed the issue.
And at 43:10 you found the a sweet spot that broke my heart. Do you think we could get that tone out of the Katana Artsist? I have the GLP and some gear just don’t have the talent. 👍🇦🇺
I can see why this could be useful, I have a Katana twin and a Marshall, both great Amps, but tbh, the Marshall is still my first choice, because it is just easier to adjust on stage, (yeah the Boss does more,) and I can see how this Boss does that.
Hi Dave, man. How goes it? Wild intro!! Lil' story about individuality of one's ears,..you could call it! We were sound-checking and my beloved guitarist mate is playing his Tokai Gibson Les Paul thru his Marshall - sounds crystalline & beautiful. Perfect! I turn away and talk to some people then after a while turn back and say "that sounds really muddy now,man...whats up? He's only got his 1974 Les Paul Gold Top out for a play.. I didn't offer any comments after that.... ;)
Yeah great rock guitar playing. Pleasure. Amp; having a Fender and a Marshall in one amp, big plus. Your favorite tube type EL 84. I had a few EL84 tube amps in the past. They sounded great except for that the tubes died so quickly, just few gigs. The Special gives us that great sound without the early tube death. Plus the parameters that can be adjusted on the computer screen with the editor app. I like 6L6 for Fender clean. I also like having independent controls for each channel. I find EQ and effects need to be different between clean and dirty channels. I use a 32" HD monitor so editing easy and clear. Great amp and great demo. Thank you.
Not so true...if biased correctly el84 are quite resistent. The thing is most class A amp expecially push pull ones where el84 powered and there where not many resistent el84's tubes back in the days. The best I've found and I collect are philips MINIWATT el84's but a quartet is very difficult to find ...also a matched couple, and I took mine away from old 50's and 60's european radios putting some chinese ones in .One of those ,wired single ended can put out 7 watt running clean(1%thd).the fact is you can have 15 watt with a couple (30w a quartet) basically in two ways: a push/pull with a lower plate voltage and biased under 60%(classAB) and it can last over 3000 hours or even more depending on your medium volumes.Otherwise you can hawe the same wattage running the same configuration on the edge of the tubes rated powers and bias it really high.(CLASS A).Those amps are always running on the edge even if you are not playing. There is a lot of heat dissipation and a short life for tubes end even other components suffers (the big P.A. capacitors more than others). The Old Peavy Classic 30 for example was a REAL class A Push/pull and always looking for current-Great volume, great sound for el84,Heavy as f.ck and always needed tube changes. The old ORANGE or 15/or 30 where class A but a little less demanding(also called class A gnarly).Somebody calls ac 30 class A...but they are not. They are "high current class ab"with no n-feedback circuit.High powered el84 but biased lower than a real class A,in fact they put out 33/36 watts clean ,an impossible wattage for an el84 quartet classA.Also the popular Orange tiny terror/dual terror and similar are NOT class A as someone tells in the rewiews....they are class a/b without n-feedback,a little high biased at full power (tiny at 15w)and a little LOW biased (under 60% plate dissipation)at half power (tiny says 7 w).This is a little rude /simple explanation but i hope it can be useful.I'm a bass player, been my work for 30 years, but i'm also a tube lover and I have built and modified a good numbr of el84 single ended little amps for my gutar playing.Cheers from Italy.Excuse my terrible english. If you need some durable el84 amp or power amps I can tell you what to look for.Ciao-
Yess finally a happy jam. I love Dave's happy jams.
Dave “I could plug into a Walkman from 1985 and make it sound good” Simpson. 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
The tune at the beginning was absolutely savage Dave!

Dave Simpson, the closest thing to Jimi Hendrix this planet has left.

If you got the standard Katana MK2 Ray, think about putting a Waza speaker in it. It is a big improvement over the stock speaker.
