The reason Norm is pissed at Jake at first when he's chosen is that he literally trained for years to take on the role, but Jake just gets it by chance. It's like someone with a high education loses a job they're fully qualified for to a high school dropout, that's probably the best comparison I can make lol. Norm and Jake provide an important contrast. Norm, on paper is a better human ambassador to the Na'vi than Jake. He's highly educated and knowledgeable about the Na'vi, he's practically been bred and trained for his role. However, as the Na'vi would say, "his cup is already full". Jake, while being ignorant has a child-like sense of wonder and openness- he's "like a child". Norm, like Grace and unlike the Quaritch and Selfridge's, has his heart in the right place so he does realise he has to step outside his passive role as a scientist and violently resist the colonization of Pandora.

After this movie the term „Pandora depression“ or „ Post Avatar depression“ came up. It describes the felling many viewers had after watching the movie, feeling sad and depressed because Pandora is not a real place to go, the Na’vi not a real tribe to join. And I get that, I feel it, too. It’s just such a beautiful place to be with people understanding and respecting the balance of their environment and their deep spiritual connection with it. It makes me deeply emotional to watch Avatar.

They actually shot Avatar with native 3D cameras thats why the experience is so unique to any other 3D movie. Other movies are shot in 2D and converted in 3D which really isn’t real 3D it shouldn’t even be called 3D. That’s why the “3D” demand died out because it never truly were 3D. It’s a treat to have an Avatar 2 coming this December and a sequel every other year following.

The tough girl was Michelle Rodriguez of Fast & Furious fame. Stephen Lang played the Colonel. The film is going to be re-released in theatres before the sequel is released. So, look for it. Never underestimated James Cameron. He waited 10 years to make this because the technology hadn`t caught up to him. I think it was worth it. The sequel probably will be too.
This is the film that made Me buy My first Blu-Ray Player. I just had to have this film is the highest quality after I saw it in theatre. They`re also releasing the 4K by year`s end. I don`t know how they can make this look any better.

Lol you said 'people in the medical field say the weirdest stuff' and it's so TRUE. I've been to doctors a lot and the nurses/technicians that stick you with the needle always get excited over 'juicy' veins. The first few times it's a little jarring when they like stroke your hand and say 'That's real nice vein, it's gonna be nice to poke.'

When "Dances With Wolves" came out, someone interviewed a Native American about it. He said that he didn't watch it, but he knew how it would go. He said, 'Let me guess, white man comes to the West and is on his own. Indians take him in and teach him their ways and he comes a better Indian than the native Indians. He then rallies the others and defeats his original people and lives the rest of his life as an Indian. That about right?' The interviewer couldn't say a word.
Basically, that is the formula this movie used, but with better special effects.

Which is why I always referred to this film as "Dances with Smurfs". It is just a badly written version of the age-old "white messiah" story. It is a technically brilliant film but it needs much better writing and acting to be a good film. So, yes, it's hugely overrated.

I seen this in the theaters after it was out about a month or more. I never seen a preview, but kept hearing about the hype. One day after work, traffic was bad, so I got out of it and decided to go to the theater and caught the early showing in 3d to kill a couple hours. Had the theater to myself and no expectations. To this day, I've yet to have a movie effect me or draw me in as much as this one did. The goose bumps kept coming for me as it did you. The 3d, CGI, sound stage, story, everything was just so good. I sat there another 5 minutes after the credits just reflecting on it. I can't wait for the sequels to start next month. I really hope it isn't a let down, but I fear it will be because I now have HUGE expectations unlike my first viewing of this one. This movie was so unique and technically advanced at the time. Hopefully the sequels will be just as cool. James Cameron invented brand new machines and techniques just for the sequels. I'd love to experience that 1st viewing feelings again.

I'm so glad you liked this film! Unless I miscounted, I got you having 7 times getting goosebumps. I first saw this in the theater (not an IMAX) but I couldn't watch it with the 3D glasses on. The effects made me dizzy and gave me motion sickness, so I watched without. And I don't feel I missed anything by not using the glasses. This movie was so beautiful, and I loved the story! I didn't actually make the connection with Pocahantas, but I can see it now. Even still, I think this movie holds its own, because it is such a universal story. Europeans came over to the New World, did their best to destroy the indigenous people and take over the land to the point of destroying it. Humans are no different now than they were then, and according to this, we won't be any different in the future. And I can see that. We don't learn. We don't change. We feel entitled to anything we see, and we take it.
Another thing that struck me, in the film, was that it was still relatively recent (8 years is still recent) since 9/11. I don't know if anyone else had the reaction I did, but watching that huge, beautiful tree come down immediately flashed the Twin Towers in my head and I was so devastated. That, plus knowing the connection that the Navi had with that tree was really hard to take. It would be wonderful if we, as humans, could learn to change and NOT be the destructors that we have been in the past. Loved your reaction, Alex!

So I just feel that this needs to be said every time someone does a reaction video to Avatar. The movie was not intended to be viewed without 3D. It was designed from the ground up to be a showcase in what was the best 3D technology in the world at that time. It literally caused all major TV manufacturers to incorporate passive or active 3D technology into their first gen 240hz TVS. It’s part of the reason that there was a push to make the PS3 and PS4 compatible with 3D.
The reason why this needs to be stressed is that nobody went to see Avatar for its story and plot. The entire movie is just a futuristic rehashing of Disney’s Pocahontas. There was zero brain candy in Avatar. That being said, I still loved it and was in awe of it because it was a technological 3D marvel. If you didn’t watch it in 3D as intended, then you really didn’t watch it at all. I’ve seen it in 3D and 2D. 3D is a rare experience that you will want to see again and again. 2D just looks and feels like a very cartoony, headache inducing, retread of dated plots and tropes.
